When he opened his eyes again, a dark gray ceiling came into Chu Feng's view. Where was he? He turned his head with difficulty to look around, and the piercing pain in his neck reminded him of what had happened before.
Those warm, large hands actually used all their strength to grip his neck… Jin'er, trying to strangle him? Why? Did he do something wrong? No… Jin'er had been praising him a lot until yesterday.
"Awake?" A familiar male voice came from the other end of the room, and Chu Feng tried to sit up anxiously.
[Clang—] The sound of metal striking metal echoed throughout the room as Chu Feng moved.
"Ugh—ah—ah—" He wanted to question, to struggle, but only a single, hoarse roar came from his mouth. Chu Feng's phoenix eyes widened as he frantically grabbed at the iron chain around his neck.
"It's no use, even a lion couldn't break this chain." Another unfamiliar male voice dissuaded Chu Feng from trying to tear the chain. It was a short, thin man with a lewd appearance, standing by the door, looking like a dwarf from a fairy tale.
"Ugh—cough cough—" He tried to say something, but his dry throat triggered a violent cough. Chu Feng, who had finally managed to sit up, was bound by chains again and forced to lie back down.
Jin'er came to Chu Feng's bedside, looking at the small body coughing so hard it was almost unbearable. Should he leave the child here? Two voices battled within him, but the words that came out were calm and steady, as if he had thought them through a thousand times: "Little Feng, you have to be good." As he turned to leave the room, he felt as if he had abandoned something. But Jin'er had no way back now. The deal with Kevin was already done, and he had no reason to give up those generous terms for a child he had no connection with. Even if he wanted to, he wouldn't dare; Kevin's power wouldn't tolerate anyone saying no to him.
"Ah—" Watching Jin Er leave without looking back, Chu Feng roared, trying to stop those hurried steps. But his throat was so sore that he couldn't make a sound, and he could only watch helplessly as his uncle, who had been with him for three years, walked out of the room.
"Your name is Chu Feng, right?" The lewd man who had been standing by the door came to Chu Feng's side at some point, sat on the edge of the bed, and stroked Chu Feng's hair with a smile.
Chu Feng tried to dodge, but he couldn't escape because of the chains binding him.
"Trying to hide? It seems Jin'er didn't teach you manners properly." One hand turned Chu Feng's slightly turned face, while the other thin fingers stroked his smooth face back and forth. "It's okay, I have nothing but patience."
"Ah—" A scream from the depths of Chu Feng's throat escaped as a sudden, sharp pain in his neck caused him to curl up in agony, completely unprepared. The excruciating pain, enough to make his whole body go limp, seemed to be caused by the ring around his neck, which was so tightly attached that Chu Feng couldn't break free no matter what he did.
"Haha! My little lion, do you feel any better now?" Seeing Chu Feng's tearful eyes and still unable to shake off the pain, Kevin laughed and loosened his grip. Stroking Chu Feng's sweat-dampened hair again, the short man said with a booming voice, "Cute little lion, so funny, haha! What a rascal!"
The dimly lit room was filled with piercing, maniacal laughter. The laughter pierced Chu Feng's young eardrums and sharply assaulted his naive young heart.
From that day on, Chu Feng truly understood why the villains described in novels always liked to laugh loudly.
