was extremely murderous and sinister. My master knew he was gradually falling into demonic ways and was greatly disappointed in Zen, even contemplating suicide." Xu Jingtang knew that the master he was referring to was the mysterious and unpredictable Yinzong. According to Zhuge Yang, Yinzong was extremely murderous and a demonic monk, but according to Zhenxiu, he was a highly accomplished monk who practiced asceticism. However, he was unaware that Buddhist practice had many taboos; sometimes, when inner demons raged, one could go astray and become possessed by demons, and the path of seeking enlightenment through meditation would instead lead to demonic possession. Therefore, Buddhist monks often needed disciplinary monks with staffs to protect them during meditation.

Zhenxiu continued, “My master had resolved to end his life. When he drew his sword, the new moon was just rising. That crescent moon reflected on the Great Compassion Sword like a teardrop. My master suddenly realized the truth and forged the Great Mercy Sword. It turns out that the Great Compassion Sword Technique had entered the demonic path, and the Great Compassion Sword itself was the mark of a demon. The two complemented each other, and the sword technique became like a wailing ghost crying in the night, sinking deeper and deeper into the demonic path.”

Xu Jingtang was completely bewildered, but he vaguely felt that Zhenxiu’s words seemed to make sense. Suddenly, Zhuo Xing said, “Then the Great Mercy Sword is the sword of the benevolent?”

Zhenxiu nodded and said, “Exactly. Entering the demonic path is also seeking the Dao, but one must not lose one’s upward aspirations. The Great Compassion Sword is like a long, dark night, while the Great Mercy Sword is like an ever-burning lamp, constantly illuminating the mind.”

Zhenxiu’s words became more and more mysterious, but Zhuo Xing suddenly said, “Exactly, exactly, haha, haha.” He laughed and danced with joy. Gao Zhenwu flicked Zhuo Xing on the head with his finger and scolded, "Master is resting, what's wrong with you?" Zhuo Xing covered his head and said, "I was happy because what Master Zhenxiu said seemed to be exactly what I thought."

Xu Jingtang ignored their commotion and asked, "What does that have to do with my master?"

Zhenxiu sighed, "After my master comprehended these two sword techniques, although he knew that demons and evil are intertwined, and that the Great Compassion Sword should be used to suppress the ferocity of the Great Mercy Sword, human strength is ultimately limited. Although the Great Compassion Sword has the aspect of restraint, the Great Mercy Sword, as the master's swordsmanship deepened, even had the intention of counter-restraint. Therefore, from the age of 23 to 31, my master practiced the Vajra Immovable Zen for eight years, often using killing to vent the demonic energy in his heart, so as not to fall into demonic possession."

Xu Jingtang exclaimed, "Ah!" and said, "Can one kill while practicing Zen?" He only knew that Buddhism forbade killing, but he had never heard of anyone using killing to attain enlightenment.

Zhenxiu smiled slightly and said, "Nanquan Cat and Zhaozhou Shoes, evil methods should be sought through evil."

Xu Jingtang didn't say anything more, but he vaguely felt that something was wrong. Gao Zhenwu asked, "And then what happened?"

Zhenxiu said, "To resolve this knot in his heart, my master went to Shaolin Temple, wanting to prove Zen through martial arts. In the Bodhidharma Hall, he debated with twelve eminent monks, which led to the deaths of five masters and even caused the then abbot of Shaolin, Master Huiqie, to be moved to tears. How wonderful."

. For my master, these many masters were like rain after a long drought. This battle, in my master's words, was the most exhilarating battle of his life." Xu Jingtang shuddered. He had witnessed Ye Lingsu and Bai Shen's martial arts, a level he could never even dream of, yet Yinzong could fight against so many alone. He asked, "Did your master lose this battle?"

Zhenxiu suddenly smiled and said, "What does it matter if we win or lose? At that time, everything was peaceful and bright, but my master was covered in wounds, looking at the corpses strewn all over the ground, and suddenly he laughed."

At this moment, everyone in the room felt a chill run down their spines. Zhuo Xing asked, "Are all the attackers dead?" But as soon as he said it, he realized something was wrong. Ye Lingsu and Bai Shen had both participated in that siege, but they had both escaped unscathed. It seemed that although the seven major sects suffered heavy casualties in this siege, Yinzong was

no match for so many opponents and had indeed lost. Zhenxiu continued, "At that time, Master Bai Shen of the Shaolin Sect shouted at my master: 'Yinzong, you have killed countless people, and today you will not escape justice.' He imitated Bai Shen's speech, directly saying his master's name, and his face showed no abnormality." Zhuo Xing interjected again, "Was it Master Bai Shen?" "Bai Shen came to offer birthday wishes this time, but he was taciturn and didn't say a word for a long time. Zhuo Xing couldn't believe that the Bai Shen of the past would be so boisterous. Zhen Xiu nodded and said, "That's right. Master Bai Shen was known as 'Thunderbolt' among the 'Three Steeds of Shaolin.' He had a terrible temper and a very loud voice."

Xu Jingtang was stunned. He never imagined that Bai Shen was such a person. Just as he was about to ask what happened later, Zhen Xiu continued, "My master's mind is now clear." He said to Master Bai Shen, "Brother Bai Shen, if I am killed by you today, would that be fair?" Master Bai Shen shouted, "Although my martial arts are not as good as yours, I have justice in my heart. Today I will definitely defend the righteous path and eliminate evil, and kill you, you demon." Master Bai Shen's Shaolin Temple practiced Mahayana Buddhism, but although Master Bai Shen's martial arts were strong, his Buddhist knowledge was not very good. If the Qing Dynasty wants revenge, I have nothing to say." Zhuo Xing suddenly exclaimed, "Brilliant plan! Brilliant plan!" Just as he shouted, Gao Zhenwu flicked his forehead again, saying, "What nonsense are you spouting? You know nothing." Zhuo Xing clutched his head, somewhat unconvinced, and said, "Master Baishen's punch was powerful, but this Master Yinzong must still have the strength to strike again. He just couldn't get close. He wanted to use words to make his opponent careless, and then strike successfully."

Zhenxiu smiled and said, "This young benefactor is indeed right. Alas, my master was probably already on the demonic path at that time. When Master Baishen saw my master waiting to die, he couldn't help but slow down his punch. The Great Compassion Blade in my master's hand was five feet long. When Master Baishen slowed down, the tip of the blade pierced into Master Baishen's heart."

Zhuo Xing exclaimed "Ah!" again. Although he had guessed that Yin Zong would have the power to retaliate, he hadn't expected his attack to be so vicious. He didn't care that Gao Zhenwu was hitting him on the head again, and shouted, "Actually, in a mutually destructive situation, cutting off a hand or making a cut would be enough. A stab to the heart is a bit excessive."

Zhen Xiu said, "Indeed, young benefactor, you do have wisdom. When my master stabbed Master Baishen in the heart, he suddenly felt an emptiness in his heart. All his competitiveness and high spirits vanished. Master Baishen's attack was quite benevolent, but my master's strike showed no mercy. Even though Vajra Zen doesn't shy away from killing, this strike was clearly a desperate counterattack, not the Vajra Zen's use of a knife to prove Zen. My master, heartbroken, heard Master Baishen curse: 'Bastard, shameless!'" "Lord Baishen is unworthy of being a monk; his cursing is so rude. I truly don't know where he learned it. Though his voice is weak, his voice is surprisingly forceful. My master thought Master Baishen was surely dead, but seeing that he was unharmed, he immediately realized that Master Baishen's mind must be biased to the right. My master has meditated for many years, and at this moment, he suddenly seemed to have an epiphany. He burst into laughter, told Master Baishen and Master Ye that he would never step out of Tiantong Temple again, and then used the Great Compassion Sword as a crutch to leave."

It turned out that on that day, Yinzong had won a great victory in the fierce battle, but seeing that Baishen had survived the stab wound, he suddenly felt a stirring in his heart. He realized that his years of dry meditation had not yielded any enlightenment, and suddenly he had an epiphany. He immediately laughed loudly, left some wound medicine for the wounded, and said that if anyone wanted to find him, they should go to Tiantong Temple in Ningbo. After saying this, he picked up his sword and left. Baishen saw that he could have easily killed everyone on his side, yet he left instead, leaving him completely puzzled. In this battle, only he and Ye Lingsu remained from the seven major sects, both covered in wounds and in a sorry state. After discussing the matter, they still didn't know Yin Zong's true intentions. Ye Lingsu suggested gathering her fellow disciples to storm Tiantong Temple and tear Yin Shou to pieces, but Bai Shen said that Yin Zong seemed to have reformed, and since he would never set foot outside Tiantong Temple again, it was better to help others. Therefore, for many years, no one knew that such a master was hidden within Tiantong Temple. After this battle, Yin Zong indeed disappeared without a trace, never to be seen again. Zhenxiu replied, "That's right."

Xu Jingtang thought it absurd; killing so many people just for a Zen principle that couldn't even be explained, yet Zhenxiu seemed unconcerned. Just as he was about to speak again, Gao Zhenwu asked, "What exactly does this have to do with my master? Why do you say that the Chaotic Cloak Sword Technique originated from the Great Compassion Sword?" Zhenxiu

smiled slightly and said, "This battle resulted in mutual casualties because my master's Great Compassion Sword had been lost somewhere. Since my master had attained enlightenment, that sword was naturally no longer in his heart. However, the sword was engraved with a Great Compassion Sword Manual. If it were learned by an unorthodox practitioner, it would inevitably lead to more slaughter. Therefore, he repeatedly mentioned it to us. It was only because of this lingering thought that, although my master had broken through the dualistic attachments of self and others, he ultimately failed to understand..." The Way of Heaven and Man. Until a few years ago, my senior brother went out on business and saw that Duan Gong's Chaotic Wind Blade Technique and the Great Compassion Blade Technique had similarities. Only after discussing it did he realize that the Great Compassion Blade was actually in Duan Gong's possession.

Xu Jingtang frowned and said, "Master Zhenxiu, I'm afraid that's not true. My master never mentioned this. Perhaps there's another reason..."

Zhenxiu smiled slightly, picked up the golden knife on the table, and everyone was startled, thinking he was about to make a move. Zhenxiu, however, held the knife and exclaimed, "This is the starting stance of the Great Compassion Blade." Then he demonstrated each move. Gao Zhenwu saw that his swordsmanship was very similar to the sixty-four forms of the Chaotic Wind Blade Technique he had learned, only the direction and power were slightly different. After the thirty-six forms of the Great Compassion Blade Technique were finished, Xu Jingtang felt as if he had been plunged into ice water.

This sword wasn't particularly bright; its light was rather dim. The blade was covered with fine lines, many inscriptions, presumably the Great Compassion Sword manual. The sword wasn't sharpened, yet it appeared extremely sharp. Xu Jingtang thought to himself, "No wonder Master said he wanted to return this knife to Tan Guang. He was being cunning. Tan Guang is much dumber than Zhenxiu; he didn't even notice. Alas, Zhenxiu did." With that, he had no doubts about what Zhenxiu said.

Zhenxiu looked at the knife and smiled, "Twenty-seven years later, it's returned to its rightful owner. Esteemed benefactors, my master's matter is settled; this humble monk will take his leave."

He turned to leave. Gao Zhenwu shouted, "Hey monk, are you leaving like this?"

Zhenxiu said, "Does Benefactor Gao have anything else to say?"

Gao Zhenwu shouted, "Your junior brother killed the young master of the horse farm, as well as Master Ye, Master Baishen, Young Hero Huang of the Eagle Soaring Sect, and others, and injured my master. This grudge is not to be easily forgiven!"

At this time, the bodies of Ye Lingsu and Baishen and the others had already been collected in the outer room, ready to be returned to their original place. A pile of coffins stood neatly arranged in the outer room, a sight that sent chills down one's spine. Zhenxiu glanced at him and said, "It seems Senior Brother has made further progress, hehe."

Gao Zhenwu had only thought Zhenxiu was good at saying polite things, but he was taken aback by his words and asked, "What progress?" He immediately realized Zhenxiu meant that Tan Guang's Zen teachings had advanced further. He snorted and said, "Killing people like flies, does that make you a monk?"

Zhenxiu stopped and said, "In the kingdom of Varanasi, there was a butcher named Guang'e who killed countless sheep every day. Upon seeing the Buddha Shariputra, he received the eight precepts for a day and a night. Because of this, upon his death, he was reborn as the son of Vaishravana, the Northern Heavenly King."

He was reciting a passage from the Nirvana Sutra about Guang'e. Guang'e was a butcher who killed countless sheep every day, but upon seeing the Buddha, he attained enlightenment. Zhenxiu's use of this sutra was clearly meant to say that killing does not hinder one's attainment of Buddhahood. Xu Jingtang and the others had never studied Buddhism and did not know what he was reciting, but they sensed a deeper meaning in Zhenxiu's words, though they could not quite grasp what it meant.

Zhenxiu continued, “Zen mind is everywhere; killing is not killing, and not killing is killing—originally, there is no difference. Senior brother has better aptitude than me; he has already passed the Vajra Zen test, which is truly enviable.”

Xu Jingtang, hearing him say that killing was also enlightenment, almost felt a bit like laughing and crying. This Zhenxiu's martial arts were superb; whether he was deluded by Zen or truly a high monk, he had seen through all appearances. Just as he was about to find another rebuttal, Duan Songqiao in the inner room suddenly cried out again. Xu Jingtang was startled and hurriedly rushed into the inner room, calling out, “Master! Master!” He saw that Duan Songqiao was still unconscious, muttering, “Haha, my swordsmanship is the best in the world! Haha!” He must have dreamt that his martial arts were unparalleled, invincible in the world. Xu Jingtang felt a pang of sadness and tucked Duan Songqiao in. He turned to leave, and Xu Jingtang knew he wouldn't return. Suddenly, a thought struck him, and he called out, "Master Zhenxiu, what fault is this?" Zhenxiu was startled and turned back, saying, "What do you mean, Benefactor Xu?" His face still held a faint smile. Xu Jingtang said, "Besides killing people, Tan Guang also abducted my junior sister. Is this enlightenment? If Master Zhenxiu insists this is enlightenment, then I have nothing to say. But such actions are no different from those of a demon." "He said it aloud, but a lingering fear remained in his heart. Zhenxiu's martial arts were so strong that even all his fellow disciples combined couldn't defeat him, yet he couldn't keep quiet about it.

Zhenxiu's body trembled violently, but he still smiled and said, 'Is that really true?' Xu Jingtang said, 'We are all ordinary people, we don't understand any profound truths. We only know that killing is punishable by death, and debts must be repaid—these are the ultimate principles. Even if the master has a great path, we believe in the laws of nature.' Zhenxiu lowered his head and remained silent. Gao Zhenwu saw that Zhenxiu's shoulders were also trembling, and he felt a chill run down his spine. He took a step back and whispered, 'Senior brother, don't provoke him. Tan Guang is his junior brother.' Xu Jingtang sneered, 'He says killing is also a form of enlightenment, but I only know that Buddhism is vast, not so vast that it can abduct women!'" Zhenxiu suddenly raised his head and smiled, "Benefactor Xu, there's no need to provoke me. The Great Way does not violate the principles of Heaven. As the saying goes, lust is empty talk. If Junior Brother really does such a thing, then it is because his murderous intent has stirred up his inner demons, and he has already entered the path of lust. The Buddha's teachings are boundless, but the principles of Heaven are not without human sentiment. He called out the names of many of his beloved female and male disciples, sometimes praising a female disciple for her slutty figure, her round breasts, and how she experienced ecstasy in bed, and other times accusing a male disciple of having ulterior motives. He coveted his concubine and wife, but only blamed Xu Jingtang for his poor martial arts skills and incompetence, without mentioning anything else. Xu Jingtang felt slightly relieved and quickly called his junior sisters to escort their master to a quiet bedroom so that no one would hear Duan Songqiao's increasingly filthy thoughts.
