The bald officer stared at the screen, his eyes bloodshot and his face contorted in pain.

"It seems things are indeed worse than I predicted..." he muttered to himself.

Just then, a document appeared on the screen, its heading clearly stating in English, "Federal Government of the United Nations."

population was 7.7 billion in 2017, surpassed 10 billion in 2018, surpassed 15 billion in 2019
, and had already surpassed 20 billion in 2020. The report predicted that the world population would approach 30 billion in 2021 and
that the world's population resources would reach saturation by 2025.

On February 3, 2021, on the eve of World War III, a massive fissure was discovered in the center of Red Square in Moscow. Forty-five days later,

The humanoid monster's collar was made of lead, its weight forcing it to crawl on the ground for any movement. The monster crawled to the high heel, kneeling on its forelimbs with its mouth pressed to the ground, and began licking the dirt off the shoe with its tongue. The blood-red tongue licked faster and faster, quickly cleaning one high heel.
Due to the chains, the monster could only reach one of the girl's high heels; the other, though right in front of it, was out of reach. In desperation, the monster began to stir. The girl glanced at it and used her foot to nudge the other shoe towards the monster's mouth. Unexpectedly, the monster swallowed the shoe whole.

The girl caught a glimpse of the humanoid monster swallowing her high heels out of the corner of her eye. She rolled her eyes impatiently, stood up from the sofa, placed one foot on the now-cleaned heel, and slowly raised the other. Then, she slammed her raised foot down onto the monster's face. The monster's face was crushed to the ground, its entire body sprawled on the floor. The collar around its neck was too heavy, making it impossible to maintain its balance. It fell sideways, its hind legs and half-arm struggling desperately. Seeing the monster's struggle, the girl didn't remove her foot. Again and again, she kicked, stomped, and trampled the monster's head with all her might.

"Awoooooo… Awooooo…"

The monster let out a mournful howl from deep within its throat, and the more the girl heard the monster's cries, the more eagerly she kicked and stomped.

"Woof woof woof... woof woof woof... woof woof woof..."

Hearing the humanoid monster's mournful cries, the three canine-like creatures in the room rushed to the girl's side. Dr. Yerevan then turned back to the control panel to continue operating.

Two tiny tentacles extended from the mechanical disk inside the laboratory, each tipped with a long, thin steel needle. The needles slowly descended through the air, gradually moving to the girl's chest and suddenly stopping.
The girl suddenly began to struggle desperately, trying to break free from the tentacles' restraints, but to no avail. Her frantic shaking only intensified the pain in her wrists, ankles, and neck. Six blue beams of light suddenly appeared on the tentacle handcuffs binding her limbs. These beams seemed to connect and intersect, as if containing immense controlling power, rendering the girl unable to struggle any longer. She was thus firmly pinned to the center of the laboratory.

The Zifeng Tower is approximately 450 meters tall with a floor area of about 137,529 square meters, comprising 89 floors above ground and 3 floors below. From the outside, it appears as a robust and imposing building, its exterior clad in high-strength, UV-resistant glass. The glass appears deep blue during the day and black at night, giving it a distinctly business-like feel at the time. However, the Zifeng Tower now appears to have been abandoned for a long time. Large portions of the interior space are completely exposed to the UV radiation from the high-strength exterior. One side of the building has been damaged by the collapse of the roof, and the original rooftop lighthouse is now located on the other side. It is estimated that only one-sixth of the original usable floor area remains. Although the building is dilapidated, some of its internal infrastructure has been well preserved and is still usable. Around the Te Allen Building, a protective wall made of wrecked cars and trucks stands approximately five to six meters high. Some sections consist of stacked cars, while others are tall, abandoned container trucks. These vehicles form a barrier around the building, with a crisscrossing network of barbed wire binding the stacked vehicles tightly together. On the west side of the wall, there's a gap formed by a container truck – this is the entrance to the Te Allen Building. At the top of the entrance is a giant LED display screen, still 70% functional. Originally belonging to the building's tenants , this screen, which had detached from the 20th to 40th floors after the disaster, was miraculously preserved thanks to the post-disaster excavation and restoration efforts of several tech-savvy individuals. At the top of the LED display, strange devices are secured with tape and rope; these are homemade detectors that display real-time data on the LED screen.

However, within this dilapidated and abandoned building still resides a group of survivors from the catastrophe.

The Zifeng Tower is now called the Te Allen Tower by the survivors, signifying that the Zifeng Tower, still standing after the catastrophe, can bring people a glimmer of hope. The Te Allen Tower is currently located in the center of the Sujing Continent, whose composition is quite complex. After the catastrophe, the Earth's tectonic plates underwent tremendous changes. The center of the Sujing Continent was the entire Jiangsu Province of the Old World. To the north and east of Jiangsu Province lies the entire South Korean Peninsula, directly east is the Japanese Peninsula, to the south is the entire Shanghai and northern Zhejiang, to the west is eastern Anhui, and to the north are the northeastern plains of Henan and the southern plains of Shandong. These continental plates formed a new continental plate after the catastrophe, and the center of this plate, the capital of the Old World's Jiangsu Province, was temporarily preserved. People called this continent the Sujing Continent, which is currently located west of the southern tip of the Old World's Japan.

The Te Allen Building is located at the very center of the Sujing Continent, and also the place with the highest concentration of survivors. Two types of catastrophe survivors reside there year-round: the mutants and the survivors. The mutants are abnormal humans who survived the catastrophe. Some appear no different from ordinary people, but their genes have undergone significant changes. Others have very obvious physical mutations, often appearing as deformities or burn scars. Most mutants live in misery, simultaneously yearning for a glimmer of hope, praying to the gods or the government for a cure and a return to their former lives, while also hoping for death, unwilling to live a life that is neither human nor monster. The survivors, on the other hand, are those who experienced the catastrophe but escaped it. They are no different from normal humans; they still yearn for a normal life, to build families, and to have their own lives. However, in this post-catastrophe world, their desired life is merely a distant dream. All they can do is scavenger, searching for hope for survival among the ruins and rubble.

Within the dilapidated Te Allen Building, the residents' thoughts were also deeply divided, forming approximately four factions: the Lords' Faction, the Seekers of Innovation, the Survivalists, and the Servant Faction. The lord faction of survivors often seeks to rule and dominate others, enslaving them to serve new survivors and seize territory in this anarchic era to become a hegemon. The seeker faction of survivors consists mostly of unmutated mutants who live similar lives to the other survivors, often gathering in small groups at night to plot their schemes. The survival faction is self-centered, living within a limited area. This group includes both mutants and survivors, some living together around a single individual, often related by blood. The servant faction consists mostly of severely mutated mutants who crave survival. Beneath their horribly ugly appearance, they hope to retain the last vestige of human dignity, yearning for respect, even if it means enslavement, cruel harm, and beatings. The greatest motivation for their survival in this cruel world is to receive even the slightest bit of human kindness.
