Dong Xiaowan

Author: Huang
Quan Around the end of the Ming Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty entered a period of turmoil. Peasant uprisings raged within the Great Wall, and war broke out everywhere; Qing troops outside the Great Wall were also eyeing the interior covetously, repeatedly invading. This resulted in continuous warfare both inside and outside the
Great Wall, bloodshed, locust plagues, droughts, and widespread suffering. It was at this time that a remarkable woman of exceptional talent and beauty emerged from the Qinhuai River, a place of "elegant beauty and romantic allure," leaving behind a poignant tale of love and loss. She was Dong Xiaowan, one of the "Eight Beauties of Jinling."
Dong Xiaowan, whose given name was Bai, courtesy name Qinglian, and also known as Wanjun, was one of the eight famous courtesans of the Qinhuai River—Liu Rushi, Gu Hengbo, Ma Xianglan, Chen Yuanyuan, Guan Baimen, Bian Yujing, and Li Xiang—collectively known as the "Eight Beauties of Jinling."
Dong Xiaowan was intelligent from a young age. At eight, she studied poetry, painting, drama, and music with a group of refined scholars. By three or four, she was proficient in all the arts, including music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, and was also skilled in poetry and prose. Coupled with her natural talent and beautiful appearance, by the age of fifteen, when she began her career, she was already famous throughout Qinhuai. Her residence, Diaoyu Lane, was constantly bustling with carriages and horses, her residence a bustling marketplace, and her banquets always packed.
Although Dong Xiaowan was a courtesan, she possessed a fiery and unyielding spirit, as pure as ice and jade. She felt disgust for the wealthy and powerful who indulged in lavish feasts and the dissolute young men who frequented brothels, and treated them all with cold disdain.
However, she held a completely different attitude towards the prominent figures of the "Fushe" society, who gathered in Nanjing at the time to lecture, discuss classics, promote public opinion, criticize figures, comment on the government, express their indignation at the world's injustices, and dominate the literary scene. Dong Xiaowan often enjoyed tea and conversation with them, discussing literature and painting, reciting poetry with warm wine, and composing lyrics and music. She was carefree and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※ In the twelfth year of the Chongzhen reign (1639 AD), on the Lantern Festival,
as night fell, Nanjing was already filled with the sounds of gongs and drums, and lanterns were lit everywhere. Along the Qinhuai River, pavilions and painted towers were adorned with colorful lanterns, vermilion railings and winding balustrades, embroidered curtains half-rolled up, and the fragrance of red sleeves wafting through the air, accompanied by music and song.
On the Qinhuai River, lantern boats and flower boats lined up one after another, the sounds of string and wind instruments surging like boiling water, the water and fire reflecting the shimmering light. Within Nanjing city, streets and alleys, pine branches and bamboo leaves were covered with lanterns, creating a dazzling and colorful spectacle, a feast for the eyes. Even more so were the vendors hawking their wares: shredded tofu skin, sliced offal, oil-fried dough sticks, plums, and hawthorns, carrying loads on shoulder poles and baskets, weaving through the streets and alleys, their cries echoing endlessly.
Dong Xiaowan, by nature indifferent to noise and clamor, feigned illness and stayed home that day. Leaning against the window, gazing at the moon, she couldn't help but recite lines from Xin Qiji's poem. When she reached the lines, "Moths and willows, golden threads, laughter and whispers, a lingering fragrance," a sudden wave of loneliness washed over her, and a torrent of sorrow washed over her, tears streaming down her face.
She spread a sheet of jade-leaf paper on her desk, picked up a purple bamboo brush, and dipped it in fragrant ink on a Lingyan inkstone with a yellow phoenix design, writing a seven-character quatrain: "Fire trees and silver flowers illuminate the fifteenth night, dragons and phoenixes adorn the red jade candles; orchids sway gently in the Qinhuai moonlight, purple mist shrouds the Zhongshan peaks. The bright mirror hangs in the sky, yet still has a halo; the fragrant orchid cannot withstand the wind; broken stems and drifting tumbleweeds have no way home; where can one find fragrant grasses at the ends of the earth?"
With a long sigh, she put down her
brush when her mother, Granny Chen, ran upstairs, saying that Granny Li of Meixiang Tower had invited her. This Granny Li was none other than Li Zhenli, one of the "Two Lis of the Old Courtyard" from the old brothel on Longmen Street in the Qinhuai River. Although she came from a humble background, she was naturally generous, valued reputation, did not care for money, and enjoyed associating with members of the Fushe Society. Li Xiang, one of the "Eight Wonders of Jinling" who fell in love with Hou Chaozong, was her adopted daughter.
Upon hearing the invitation from Aunt Li, who was hosting a banquet for the renowned Fushe leader, Master Zhang Tianru, and a group of familiar friends, along with her close friends like Bian Yujing, Dong Xiaowan, accompanied by her maid Xixi, and carrying a brocade zither case, departed in a sedan chair.
Meixiang Tower, situated on the picturesque banks of the Qinhuai River, had its front entrance facing the street and its back hall overlooking the river. On the night of the Lantern Festival, the tower and river hall were ablaze with lights and fireworks. The exquisitely carved and elegantly furnished river hall featured a purple long table facing outwards, with a Boshan-style incense burner in the center, from which wisps of smoke rose; on either side were two celadon shrimp-shaped vases, one containing a jade butterfly plum blossom and the other a purple peony.
Hanging on the wall amidst the stone slabs was a painting titled "Spring River at Dawn" by the Northern Song Dynasty monk Huichong, inscribed with a poem by Su Shi: "A few branches of peach blossoms in the bamboo grove, the ducks know first when the spring river warms; baskets of reeds cover the ground, the reeds are short, just when the pufferfish are about to ascend."
On either side was a couplet: "Pine breeze blows peach blossom rain, bamboo rhythm accompanies orchid fragrance," the work of Dong Qichang.
Zhang Tianru, Chen Dingsheng, Fang Mizhi, and Hou Chaozong were sitting in wisteria armchairs, sipping fragrant tea, when suddenly it was announced that Dong Xiaowan had arrived. Zhang Tianru had heard of her name but never seen her. Hearing of her arrival, he couldn't help but watch her intently.
With a sway of the beaded curtain, a woman entered. She had a face like peach blossoms, eyes like autumn water, hair like piled clouds, teeth like pearls, wore a cloak embroidered with Suzhou flowers and branches, and a skirt with gold-flecked pomelo silk trim. Her waist…? With graceful steps, she approached Zhang Tianru, offered a deep bow, and said, "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, sir."
Zhang Tianru replied, "I've long admired your reputation. I was fortunate enough to see you on my way home, and your
fame is truly well-deserved." Xiaowan said shyly, "I am but a humble person, with nothing to boast about. You flatter me, sir." She then greeted the three young men one by one.
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Aunt Li quickly set out the table, and ten people sat around it. First, an ice platter was placed on the table; after several rounds of drinks, hot dishes such as amber-smoked chicken, crystal white duck, butterfly sea cucumber, squirrel-shaped mandarin fish, snowflake shrimp balls, and jade fish balls were served.
Facing a table laden with delicacies, Zhang Tianru spoke of the perilous situation of the nation, beset by powerful enemies abroad and internal strife, as well as the decadent and dissolute lifestyle of the Jiangnan region. Deeply moved, he encouraged the members of the Fushe Society present, urging them to remember this crucial moment for the country: "You must uphold loyalty and integrity, carry on the legacy of the Donglin Party, take the nation as your responsibility, and do your utmost to ensure your name is not disgraced after death!" He added, "Fame and fortune are the path to loyalty, while integrity is the foundation of one's character." These impassioned words elicited sighs and lamentations from everyone at the table.
Dong Xiaowan and Li Xiang, hearing their discussion of national affairs, felt an even greater admiration for the Fushe Society members. Seeing Zhang Tianru and the others so engrossed in their worries about the country and the times, not eating or drinking, Aunt Li felt a little disappointed. She quickly greeted them, "Master Zhang, gentlemen, today is the Lantern Festival, and it's also time to welcome Master Zhang back. Let's drink to our hearts' content. After all, national affairs can't be resolved in a few words. Come, come, let's drink while it's hot!"
Hou Chaozong chimed in, "A fine gathering like this is rare, let's enjoy this night. Li Xiang, Xiao Wan, why don't you all do your best and have a good time?" Fang Mizhi, Chen Dingsheng, and the others clapped their hands in approval.
Li Xiang, Zheng Tuoniang, Bian Yujing, Guan Baimen, and several others took turns singing several songs, including "Picking Water Chestnuts," "Midnight Song," "Mulan Lyrics," and "West River Moon." When it was Dong Xiaowan's turn, she picked up her jade pipa and, with delicate fingers, played Zhang Ruoxu's "Spring River Flower Moon Night."
Dong Xiaowan played a series of gentle, slow strums, her movements as graceful as "jade fragments shattering and pearls scattering from Kunlun Mountain," as gentle as "a clear stream flowing over a flat sandy beach," as graceful as "autumn dew dripping from lotus leaves in a moonlit pond," and as graceful as "spring rain wetting fallen flowers on a winding path." The music ended, but the lingering charm washed away the pent-up emotions in everyone's hearts.
Xiaowan's beautiful appearance, dignified demeanor, refined speech, and skillful playing all filled Zhang Tianru with admiration. Suddenly, he thought of someone who could perfectly complement Dong Xiaowan: Mao Pijiang, a rising star of the Fushe Society and a romantic scholar from Jiangnan, whom he called "equally brilliant."
Mao Pijiang, whose given name was Xiang and self-styled Chaomin, was from Rugao. Both his father and grandfather were successful candidates in the imperial examinations; his father was Mao Songshao, a minister of the Ming Dynasty. Pijiang showed exceptional talent from a young age, composing poems and exchanging verses with renowned scholars of Yunjiang, such as Dong Taifu and Chen Zhengjun, at the age of fourteen. At the age of sixteen, he became sworn brothers with prominent figures of the time, Zhang Gongliang and Chen Zeliang, in Nanjing. Mao
Pijiang possessed extraordinary handsomeness and a clear, bright spirit; he was loyal, principled, and talented. Together with Chen Dingsheng, Fang Mizhi, and Hou Chaozong, they were known as the "Four Gentlemen of the Fushe Society in Jiangnan."
When Zhang Tianru suggested that Mao Pijiang, a perfect match for Dong Xiaowan, was a match made in heaven, Chen Dingsheng, Fang Mizhi, and the others immediately applauded, recalling how Mao Pijiang had jointly written the "Public Proclamation for Preventing Chaos in the Capital" at the Confucius Temple earlier that year (the eleventh year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign), fiercely criticizing Ruan Dacheng, a remnant of Wei Zhongxian. They greatly praised Mao Pijiang's foresight and courage.
Dong Xiaowan had long heard of Mao Pijiang's talent, character, and temperament through her interactions with members of the Fushe Society. Hearing Zhang Tianru and others mention the possibility of a marriage between them, her cheeks flushed, and her admiration deepened. Zhang Tianru, taking advantage of his drunken state, entrusted Fang Mizhi to arrange a match between them during Mao Pijiang's examination visit.
After hosting Zhang Tianru at the Meixiang Pavilion, Dong Xiaowan visited the pavilion twice, from the Flower Festival to the Shangyi Festival, to visit Aunt Li and Li Xiang, ostensibly to offer gifts, but in reality to inquire about Mao Pijiang's arrival in Nanjing. Aunt Li and her daughter, understanding Xiaowan's true intentions, meticulously described Mao Pijiang's family background, character, and talent, and even told her the date of his arrival in Nanjing. Upon hearing this, Dong Xiaowan was secretly delighted, resolving that Mao Pijiang was the one for her.
Upon receiving a letter from Chen Dingsheng, Mao Pijiang arrived in Nanjing on March 12th and stayed at Chen's residence near Lianhua Bridge. The two men reminisced about their long separation and discussed matters related to the Fushe Society. On March 14th, Mao Pijiang, along with Chen Dingsheng, Fang Mizhi, and others, entered the examination hall. The three examinations concluded on March 24th. After the examinations, Mao Pijiang arranged to meet Chen Dingsheng, Fang Mizhi, and others for drinks at Li Xiang's place the following day.
That morning, after bathing and changing, Mao Pijiang strolled along the Qinhuai River towards Meixiang Tower. A year had passed, and the banks of the Qinhuai River seemed even more prosperous and bustling. Mao Pijiang wandered along the river until he arrived at Meixiang Tower, where Fang Mizhi and Chen Dingsheng were already waiting. Upon seeing her guests, Li Xiang immediately laid out a feast, pouring jade pots of chilled wine for the four gentlemen, both to express her appreciation for their hard work during the examinations and to wish them success in the examinations.
During the meal, the topic of inviting Zhang Tianru to the Lantern Festival banquet came up, and everyone praised and discussed Dong Xiaowan. Mao Pijiang said, "Dong Xiaowan is truly 'beautiful and charming'!"
Fang Mizhi said, "A talented woman of the world, truly multi-talented!"
Chen Dingsheng added, "Dong Xiaowan's speech is extraordinary, her demeanor dignified; she is loved by all." They also mentioned Zhang Tianru's efforts to arrange a marriage, and Mao Pijiang suddenly felt the urge to marry her. Seeing that the young master Mao had revealed his admiration for Dong Xiaowan, Li Xiang directly asked Fang Mizhi to accompany her to Diaoyu Lane to show her sincerity in visiting her.
After the meal, Mao Pijiang bid farewell to Li Xiang, Chaozong, and Dingsheng, and followed Fang Mizhi downstairs to Diaoyu Lane, where Dong Xiaowan lived.
"Pear blossoms like snow, grass like smoke, spring lingers on both banks of the Qinhuai River; a row of boudoirs stand overlooking the water, each house's pink walls reflecting
the beauty of a maiden." They walked along the scenic Qinhuai River. Along the way, Fang Mizhi, as usual, recounted what he had heard from Hou Chaozong: Dong Xiaowan was renowned and longed to see him, eager to meet him, and if they clicked, she would submit to him.
The two arrived at the entrance to Diaoyu Lane. Fang Mizhi pointed out the door and sent Mao Pijiang alone. Unexpectedly, Dong Xiaowan left without saying goodbye, leaving the place empty. Mao Pijiang not only failed to meet Dong Xiaowan but was also scolded and humiliated by the gatekeeper, his anger instantly turning to ashes.
It wasn't until Hou Chaozong returned from Yang Longyou's place that he learned of the great calamity that had occurred three days earlier, and that Dong Xiaowan had already hastily fled Nanjing.
※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※ A nobleman named Zhu Tongrui lived in Bird Robe Lane on the Qinhuai River. He was of royal lineage. His grandfather was enfeoffed as the Prince of Jian'an, and his father was appointed as the Commandant of the State, so he inherited the title of Commandant of the State.
Although Zhu Tongrui was a descendant of the emperor, he was born with a hooked nose, rat-like eyes, and a monkey-like face. He relied on his royal family's power and acted with impunity, running rampant and committing all sorts of evil deeds in Nanjing. Even the government officials feared him.
Although this nobleman Zhu was born into a family of extravagant and luxurious living, he was illiterate and vulgar.
Despite this, he often considered himself a scholar and pretended to be cultured.
One day, Zhu Tongrui hosted a dinner at Bian Yujing's Nuancui Pavilion, inviting several literati, including Yang Longyou, to accompany him.
Master Zhu sent his steward and servants to Fishing Lane several times, specifically requesting Dong Xiaowan to accompany him, but Dong Xiaowan was out and did not return. When she finally returned, she refused to go, refusing to associate with Zhu Tongrui and his gang no matter how much she was persuaded. Chen, the old woman, knew Master Zhu's temperament like a tangled mess of sour soup and hot water, was in a dilemma, tears streaming down her face. Dong Xiaowan, unable to bear seeing her mother's predicament,
had no choice but to agree to go. Master Zhu, usually a powerful figure, was furious that the seemingly insignificant Dong Xiaowan had refused to come, no matter how much he invited her. When Xiaowan finally arrived, accompanied by her maid Xixi, he immediately revealed a lewd smile, and his lustful desires were unleashed.
As a result, Dong Xiaowan refused to drink or sing that day, not only confronting Zhu Tongrui directly but also overturning the banquet table in front of the guests.
Zhu Tongrui, unable to bear such humiliation, temporarily calmed down with the persuasion of those present. However, he later secretly instructed his servants to harm Dong Xiaowan.
Yang Longyou, upon learning of Zhu Tongrui's plot to poison Dong Xiaowan, rushed to Diaoyu Lane that very night to inform Dong Xiaowan and her mother. Chen Da Niang then hastily took Dong Xiaowan and fled Nanjing to Wujiang to avoid further trouble.
Upon understanding the situation, Mao Pijiang was deeply impressed by Dong Xiaowan's unyielding spirit and her defiant attitude towards the powerful Marquis Wanhu. He felt a surge of love for her, but the inability to meet her only added to his sense of loss and melancholy.
Mao Pijiang originally intended to immediately travel to Suzhou to visit Dong Xiaowan, but then received a letter from home informing him that his mother was critically ill and urging him to return immediately. Mao Pijiang immediately took a boat to Yangzhou that night and then rode home under the cover of darkness. Only after his mother recovered did he travel to Suzhou with his friend Chen Zeliang to handle the affairs of the Fushe Society.
When Mao Pijiang arrived in Suzhou, he went to visit Dong Xiaowan's residence, but missed her twice. On his third visit, early in the morning, he gently knocked on the door knocker. With a creak, the courtyard gate opened. The maid, Aunt Shan, was overjoyed to see the young master Mao, whom she had seen twice before. She hurriedly ushered him inside, calling out to the house, "Auntie, Young Master Mao, Rugao, has arrived!"
Mao Pijiang followed Aunt Shan into the courtyard, where wisteria vines twined and locust trees cast long shadows. Following a gravel path, they arrived at a small, exquisite building. On either side of the stone steps leading to the main entrance stood two purple clay bonsai. One was a boxwood stump, its branches intertwined, casting swaying shadows. The other was a Lingbi rock, its reflection in the water creating a secluded valley, its peaks reaching for the sky.
As Mao Pijiang was still admiring the scenery, a woman emerged from the east wing. She hurriedly greeted him, saying, "I'm so sorry to trouble you, young master, to come from so far away and visit three times. Let me call my daughter to greet you." Pijiang then recognized her as Chen Da Niang, Xiao Wan's mother. Chen Da Niang invited young master Mao into the wing for tea, but Mao Pijiang declined and went to admire the flowers alone in the courtyard.
Xiao Wan, still drunk from a hangover, was sober when she heard young master Mao arrive. She put on her clothes, got out of bed, and, pulling Xi Xi along, went downstairs. Then Chen Da Niang said, "Young master Mao, Xiao Wan has arrived!"
Hearing Chen Da Niang's call, Mao Pijiang turned around and saw a young woman leaning against the railing. She wore a smoky purple silk blouse and an ivory white skirt, her hair loose, her eyes hazy with drunkenness, her face like the morning glow, her figure like a lotus in the breeze. Her drunken state contained a captivating charm, a charm tinged with a touch of arrogance.
Recalling her haughty demeanor at the banquet, Mao Pijiang couldn't help but silently exclaim, "What a fine woman!"
As Xiaowan approached, she found Mao Pijiang's elegant appearance and refined, unrestrained air to be truly admirable, and nodded inwardly, "Indeed, his reputation is well-deserved!"
At that moment, one had offered a chance to play the zither, and the other had no intention of refusing. Their eyes met, their feelings intertwined, and they remained silent, each understanding unspoken. It wasn't until Aunt Chen invited Mao Pijiang upstairs that they suddenly realized what had happened.
Upstairs, Dong Xiaowan asked Mao Pijiang to sit in the outer room while her mother served tea, and then she quickly went to her room to dress. Mao Pijiang, tea in hand, carefully observed the upstairs room. In the center of the room was a mahogany eight-immortal table. A mahogany table stands facing outwards, with a Dehua ivory-white porcelain sculpture of Guanyin crossing the sea in the center. On either side are two celadon carved porcelain vases, each containing a bunch of smoky purple and Luoyang red peonies, respectively. Hanging on the outer wall is a hanging scroll, Tang Yin's "Weary Embroidery Picture." The couplet is written by Qian Muzhai: "Green stream reflects the pine moon, lotus pond faces the willow breeze."
As Mao Pijiang was lost in his daydreams, the bamboo curtain swayed, and a woman stepped out of her boudoir. She wore a pale yellow silk blouse and a lake-green skirt, appearing like a peony in the mist or a lotus emerging from the water. She approached Pijiang, bowed deeply, and said with her red lips, "I have troubled you twice to visit my humble abode in the past, and today I have again kept you waiting. I am
very grateful." Mao Pijiang hurriedly rose and returned the bow, saying, "There is no need for such formality. Since I learned of your extraordinary qualities from Li Xiang, I have been eager to see you. Although I have been disappointed twice, I am fortunate to see your beautiful face today, and this is enough for me."
Dong Xiaowan sat down opposite Mao Pijiang, and they began to talk while sipping fragrant Biluochun tea.
Mao Pijiang asked, "Miss Xiaowan, is the couplet on the gate your work? It's truly elegant and profound."
Dong Xiaowan blushed and said shyly, "It's just some random scribbles, hardly worthy of your refined taste. I hope you can offer some guidance, sir."
Mao Pijiang smiled and said, "You're too modest, Miss Xiaowan."
Dong Xiaowan asked, "What do you think of my work, sir?"
Mao Pijiang rubbed his hands and said with a sigh, "I'm ashamed, ashamed! My writing is inferior to yours, my talent is not like Runyu's. (The last sentence is a proverb and doesn't directly relate to the preceding text.) "He has a name but no substance. He entered the examination six times, but failed each time. It's just that his talent and learning are insufficient, and he is inferior to others."
Dong Xiaowan comforted him, "
In my humble opinion, it's as easy for you famous scholars of the Fushe Society to pass the imperial examination. You are just waiting for the right time, and your talents will come later." During the conversation, Mao Pijiang told her that after passing the examination, he planned to visit her at the gate, but his mother suddenly fell ill, and he had to rush back to his hometown to visit her. Xiaowan also told her that after arriving in Suzhou, she was harassed by local ruffians and had to go out to hide.
The two were talking about all sorts of things when the maid Xixi came to tell them, "The suite is ready. Please come in and sit down, young master and sister."
After entering the room, Dong Xiaowan invited Mao Pijiang to sit down at the head of the table and personally poured wine and served him dishes. Before they had even finished three rounds of wine, Dong Xiaowan's face was as red as a peach blossom, her cheeks flushed, and her eyes were full of affection and her gaze was like a gentle breeze.
Pijiang wanted to voice his intention to take her as a concubine, but fearing it would be presumptuous, he hesitated. At that moment, Xixi entered with the dishes and saw the two gazing at each other, lost in thought. Understanding their unspoken thoughts, she seized the opportunity and said, "Sister, haven't you always said you want to escape this sea of suffering and choose your husband wisely? You must make a decisive move!"
Xiaowan, struggling to speak, saw Xixi's directness and covered her face with a sandalwood fan with embroidered patterns, saying, "Xiaowan has long been weary of Qinhuai. Though young, I yearn to escape this abyss, but I regret not having met someone who can truly captivate me. At the Lantern Festival banquet at Meixiang Tower, you mentioned your talent, and I have cherished it ever since. I am grateful that you have graced my humble abode with your presence three times. If you do not mind, I would be willing to serve you with my ink and dust."
Mao Pijiang said, "I have long harbored deep feelings for Wan Jun, but I am already married. With your talent and beauty, how could I possibly be reduced to a concubine?"
Xiao Wan replied, "You are mistaken. I am willing to be a courtesan, hoping to find someone I can dedicate myself to, so I can escape this life of prostitution. I wish to hear your word, sir, and I will remain secluded and vegetarian, awaiting your arrival."
Seeing this, Mao Pijiang solemnly said, "I am deeply grateful for your kindness. I, though unworthy, will remember it sincerely and will not fail you!" He then explained that he was going to leave Suzhou for the north the next day due to the affairs of the Fushe Society. He also agreed that he would come to Xiao Wan the following spring to discuss their reunion.
Xiao Wan, hearing that Mao Pijiang would be leaving the next day, was heartbroken. Her expression darkened, and her brows furrowed. After a while, she said, "A true man's ambition lies in all corners of the world. You, sir, are busy seeking an audience; how could I, a mere concubine, allow myself to be kept here by personal feelings? However, powerful and influential people in this area are harassing me, making my days uneasy. I hope you will come soon. After you leave, I will stay indoors. Next spring, I will consult the magpie's omens in the morning and the lamp's flame in the evening, hoping to see you again."
At this moment, Dong Xiao Wan was already in tears, overwhelmed with sorrow. Pijiang comforted her gently, pointing to the sky and swearing, "I will not break my promise next spring. If you do not betray me, I will never betray you!" With a lowered head, their lips met.
Although Dong Xiao Wan lived in a brothel, she adhered to the principle of selling smiles but not her body. Therefore, she would not hesitate to respond even to light kisses or lewd remarks from lecherous men. But now, embraced tightly and kissed passionately, she offered no resistance, instead reaching out to embrace him, her heart fluttering with desire, for she had already decided to entrust her life to him.
"Mmm!" Dong Xiaowan felt a nimble tongue swirling in her mouth, a warm hand caressing her buttocks and back, and the hard object between Mao Pijiang's legs pressing against her lower abdomen… A wave of blush and heat washed over her. Dong Xiaowan involuntarily twisted her body, bending her thighs and rubbing them lightly against Mao Pijiang's side.
Even through their clothes, Mao Pijiang could feel Dong Xiaowan pressed against his chest, her elastic flesh deforming and trembling under the pressure and friction. Mao Pijiang pulled his hands back, pressing his thumbs upwards against Dong Xiaowan's lower abdomen, rubbing and moving them upwards. When the curve of his palms met the lower part of her breasts, he tried to gently lift and tease them.
Dong Xiaowan seemed unable to resist such provocation…? A series of stirrings deep within her vagina, a warm, gushing flow, like a feather brushing against the skin, caressing from the depths of her vagina outwards. Dong Xiaowan couldn't help but tighten her anus and clench her vagina, gently swaying her lower limbs, letting her labia rub against each other, and then felt an electric shock, sending a chill through her entire body. Dong Xiaowan felt the love fluid flowing out of her vagina, down her thighs and calves...
In the dizziness of lust, Dong Xiaowan felt as if she were floating on clouds, seemingly hearing a "rustling" sound, but she had no time to pay attention. When she felt her nipples being held by two hot lips, she opened her alluring eyes slightly and realized that she had unknowingly become completely naked. Looking further, she saw Mao Pijiang with his head down, sucking on her nipples, his bare, slightly sweaty back showing that he was also completely naked.
The thought of being completely naked and open with her beloved filled Dong Xiaowan with a mixture of joy and shyness. Mao Pijiang's effective teasing brought her immense pleasure, making her feel weak and swaying. Seeing this, Mao Pijiang quickly wrapped his arms around Dong Xiaowan's waist, lifting her into his arms and lifting her feet off the ground. Dong Xiaowan instinctively raised her legs, wrapping them around his waist, clinging to him like an octopus.
Mao Pijiang's mouth remained on Dong Xiaowan's breasts; his erect penis pressed against her buttocks. Mao Pijiang slowly walked towards the bed, his penis bouncing and rubbing against Dong Xiaowan's buttocks with each step. In the throes of passion, Dong Xiaowan kissed Mao Pijiang's cheeks, ears, and shoulders frantically, even leaving light bite marks on his shoulder.
Mao Pijiang gently placed Dong Xiaowan on the bed and sat beside her. At this moment, Dong Xiaowan's eyes were slightly closed, her lips parted, her face flushed as if reflecting the heat of a furnace. She tightly crossed her legs, one hand covering her vulva, the edge of her palm revealing curly downy hair; the other hand was across her chest,
rising and falling with her rapid breathing. Her snow-white, soft skin was smooth and flawless, and against the crimson bedding, it resembled jade and lacquer, making Mao Pijiang's heart race with desire. Mao Pijiang removed Dong Xiaowan's hand from her vulva, revealing the vulva of a mature woman. From the thick, curly downy hair, two plump, tender labia were visible, the pink edges turning bright red in the middle, and the glistening reflection showed that it was completely wet inside. Mao Pijiang couldn't resist reaching towards Dong Xiaowan's crotch. Dong Xiaowan instinctively flinched slightly; it was an animal's instinct to protect its vital organs. But she stopped abruptly, remembering that the other person was her beloved Mao Pijiang.
Dong Xiaowan squinted at Mao Pijiang's penis, fiercely erect, veins bulging, glans a deep red, trembling provocatively. Dong Xiaowan reached out her small hand and gently grasped it, feeling its heat and hardness. She couldn't help but gently stroke it up and down, as if soothing a raging beast. Mao
Pijiang placed his palm on the slightly raised area between Dong Xiaowan's legs, feeling the smooth, moist touch. He then slightly bent his middle finger and pressed it against the cleft of her labia, gently kneading and teasing it. Dong Xiaowan turned her head, shifted, and thrust in rhythm with him. Her clitoris began to swell and harden, and a continuous stream of pleasure flowed, wetting her vulva, staining Mao Pijiang's hands, and soaking a large patch of the bedsheet.
Mao Pijiang seemed unable to restrain himself any longer, impatiently flipping over and pressing himself against Dong Xiaowan, his erect penis against the juncture of her labia. Overwhelmed by lust, Dong Xiaowan seemed to move slightly, trying to escape, but felt utterly powerless, only letting out a soft "Mmm!"—whether in protest or acquiescence, it was unclear.
Mao Pijiang held his penis and rotated it around the entrance of her vagina a few times before slowly pushing it forward. He found the entrance tight and difficult to penetrate, realizing that Dong Xiaowan was still a virgin. Once he understood, Mao Pijiang dared not force his way in. Instead, he used his legs to spread Dong Xiaowan's legs, opening her vagina as wide as possible. Then, he rotated his hips, rubbing his glans against the entrance, and slowly pushed in.
When the head of Mao Pijiang's penis first touched the entrance, Dong Xiaowan felt a little nervous, even a slight stinging sensation. However, when Mao Pijiang changed from thrusting to grinding, Dong Xiaowan immediately felt his tenderness and gratitude.
But Mao Pijiang's slow, hesitant movements made Dong Xiaowan feel an unbearable unease inside, even more so than the initial stinging pain. So, she gently twisted her waist in coordination with the grinding motion of his penis. Unexpectedly, with Dong Xiaowan's movement, Mao Pijiang's penis, lubricated by her vaginal fluids, "whoosh!" The entire glans squeezed into the entrance, perfectly positioned at the opening.
"Mmm!" Mao Pijiang's glans was tightly enveloped by the warm, wet vaginal walls. "Ah!" Dong Xiaowan felt her vagina stretched open, a slight pain mixed with a comfortable fullness.
Seeing his glans inside, Mao Pijiang relaxed, adding a little more force, slowly pushing his penis further in, using the gentlest and most gentle movements, attempting to let Dong Xiaowan experience the ecstasy of sexual climax with minimal pain. This allowed the nerve cells in Mao Pijiang's penis to clearly feel every bump and fold inside Dong Xiaowan's vagina.
Despite Mao Pijiang's gentle movements, Dong Xiaowan, being a virgin, inevitably experienced the pain of her first time. However, this stinging pain was quickly replaced by the pleasure and excitement of being filled by his penis. The surging heat deep within her vagina made the area around her uterus unbearably itchy, making her yearn for his penis to press against her sensitive spot to relieve the itch. Dong Xiaowan involuntarily arched her lower body, twisting her waist, waves of pleasure filling her entire body and coursing through her limbs, causing her to convulse, tremble, and moan…
When Mao Pijiang's glans reached its deepest point, he felt his entire penis being tightly enveloped by warm, moist flesh. Although only his penis was completely enveloped, he felt as if his entire body was enveloped, utterly powerless. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and quietly savored this exquisite sensation, gathering his energy for the next move.
"Oh!" The pleasure of being filled by his penis stirred Dong Xiaowan's latent lust. She tightly embraced Mao Pijiang's back, pressed her cherry lips to his, and deeply sucked on them. Dong Xiaowan's tongue pried open Mao Pijiang's lips and continued to penetrate his mouth. Under this passionate "French kiss," Mao Pijiang began to slowly thrust his penis.
It was as if all of Mao Pijiang's strength and mental energy were concentrated in his penis. The thrusting penis constantly received compression from all directions, making his penis seem to be about to burst under the pressure, causing Mao Pijiang to thrust faster and faster. Dong Xiaowan's hips twisted faster and faster, and her moans grew louder and louder. Waves of pleasure were slowly pushing her to the highest point of human pleasure.
Mao Pijiang felt Dong Xiaowan's vagina becoming increasingly wet and slippery, making his thrusts smoother. He involuntarily quickened his movements, like galloping horses, making the sounds of "plop! plop!" almost continuous, without interruption.
Suddenly, Mao Pijiang felt his penis swell and his scrotum tingle with a tingling sensation. Before a low growl could finish, "Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle!" Streams of hot semen shot out in succession.
"Ah..." Dong Xiaowan's uterine walls felt as if they had been violently impacted, as streams of warm semen followed, scalding her internal organs, causing her to convulse. "Mmm..." Dong Xiaowan let out another wanton moan, her vaginal walls contracting rhythmically and rapidly, a surge of scalding heat rushing from her uterus. The stimulation of the orgasm made Dong Xiaowan seem dizzy, her long fingernails unknowingly scratching several marks on Mao Pijiang's back.
Mao Pijiang lay limply on Dong Xiaowan's body, still lingering with pleasure as he slowly wiggled his hips. This thrusting was different from an orgasm; an orgasm brings instant gratification, while this post-orgasm thrusting of his penis inside her vagina allowed both of them to maintain a prolonged period of pleasure.
"Huff...shh...huff...shh..." Both of them breathed deeply, letting the sweat soak their skin. Neither of them wanted to move; tired and weary, they were both experiencing the relief after their orgasm. They just wanted to close their eyes and let the orgasm fade away in a half-dreaming, half-awake state...
※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※ It was already Mid-Autumn Festival. That day, Mao Pijiang and his wife accompanied the old lady to Shenyan Pavilion in Shuihui Garden to enjoy the moon and drink wine before returning to their room to rest.
After the couple went to bed, Mao Pijiang remembered something on his mind and wanted to ask his wife (Su Yuanfang) for help.
He hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but stopped himself. Madam Su pressed him repeatedly, and only then did Mao Pijiang recount how he met Dong Xiaowan in Suzhou, how talented she was, how she had offended powerful figures in Nanjing, and how
she had sought refuge in Suzhou to escape her troubles and find a suitable husband, all of which he had personally agreed to. Su Yuanfang, a sensible and virtuous woman, immediately agreed to smooth things over with Madam Su and help the matter proceed. Overjoyed at Madam Su's agreement, Mao Pijiang turned and gave her a passionate kiss; Su Yuanfang responded fervently.
Mao Pijiang plunged his tongue into Su Yuanfang's lips, sucking her saliva, while his right hand caressed her nipples and his left hand pulled down her nightgown. Although middle-aged and slightly plump, Su Yuanfang's muscles were still fair and smooth due to proper care, and her slightly sagging breasts had dark areolas supporting swollen nipples. The thick, dark downy hair revealed a slightly damp, protruding clitoris.
Mao Pijiang stroked the clitoris with his fingers, and Su Yuanfang trembled slightly, breathing heavily and moaning softly. Mao Pijiang then buried his head in Su Yuanfang's chest, feeling her trembling with his cheek, inhaling her fragrance with his nose, and sucking on her nipples with his lips and tongue, letting her be completely intoxicated by this enchanting scene. With
his face pressed against Su Yuanfang's soft breasts, Mao Pijiang hurriedly removed his clothes, then rolled over and lay on top of her, supporting himself with his hands, gazing at her. At this moment, Su Yuanfang's beautiful face was flushed with a rosy blush, making her appear even more alluring. Although they were familiar faces he saw day and night, Mao Pijiang always felt that his wife in bed was completely different from his wife in everyday life. It was truly a case of "virtuous by day; wanton by night."
Su Yuanfang cooperated by spreading her legs, positioning Mao Pijiang between them. She then shifted her body to open her vaginal opening, reached out to guide his erect penis, aimed it at her wet vagina, and with a slight thrust, Mao Pijiang's penis slid in halfway. As Mao Pijiang entered her soft, warm, and moist vagina, he felt a writhing sensation, as if being chewed, the intense pleasure of the pressure on his penis immediately coursing through his body.
Mao Pijiang slowly thrust in and out; although the vaginal walls were somewhat loose, it allowed his glans to feel a smooth, pleasurable sensation. With each full penetration, he could feel her trembling with excitement and her soft breathing; as Mao Pijiang gradually increased the speed of his thrusts, her moans grew louder, and the bed legs creaked in response.
Although it was Mid-Autumn Festival and the night was cool and still, Su Yuanfang's face was covered in tiny beads of sweat as she breathed heavily and softly; her swaying breasts were also dripping with her husband's sweat. The buds on Su Yuanfang's breasts, like fingertips, lightly touched and rubbed against Mao Pijiang's chest.
Suddenly, Su Yuanfang hugged her husband tightly, her whole body trembling violently, arching her lower body high, her rapid breathing mingled with deep moans from her throat. Mao Pijiang felt his penis enveloped in waves of heat, knowing his wife had reached climax. He released his climax, thrusting violently a few times, and then, with a thud and trembling, ejaculated a thick stream of semen like a thunderous explosion.
One early winter day, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law discussed the ancestral temple sacrifice. Taking the opportunity, Madam Su mentioned Dong Xiaowan to the old lady. She said that although Dong Xiaowan was a courtesan from Qinhuai, she was pure and virtuous, and also well-versed in literature. Now, the young master needed someone to attend to him, and she wanted her to stay in the study to care for him and assist her daughter-in-law with household chores. The old lady, who already loved her son, was even more pleased to hear her daughter-in-law's help and readily agreed.
In the thirteenth year of Chongzhen's reign (1644-1645), shortly after the Lantern Festival, Mao Pijiang, with Madam Su's assistance, prepared several hundred taels of silver for travel expenses and jewelry to give to Dong Xiaowan, preparing to go and redeem her.
However, fate intervened. Just as Mao Pijiang was about to set off for Yangzhou, he suddenly received an urgent letter from his father in the capital. It turned out that his father had been framed and murdered using a borrowed knife. The letter stated, "Dying at the hands of a thief would be without regret. My only fear is dying unjustly, without a name." He also instructed Mao Pijiang to "care well for his mother, be diligent and ambitious, be loyal to the emperor and patriotic, and not disgrace the family." Mao Pijiang, a filial son, seeing his father in danger, went to the capital alone to petition for his father's rescue.
With the help of his father's friends, Mao Pijiang was able to meet the emperor. He showed no fear in the face of imperial wrath, and his memorials moved the entire court. Finally, Emperor Chongzhen was moved to order a thorough investigation, revealing the truth, and his father, Mao Song, was able to retain his post instead of being dismissed and imprisoned.
When Mao Pijiang returned home, his mother fell ill. By the time she fully recovered, winter was over and spring had returned. With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, Mao Pijiang finally had the opportunity to discuss with Madam Su about going to Suzhou to find Dong Xiaowan. Because the agreed-upon meeting date with Dong Xiaowan had passed, Mao Pijiang was extremely anxious.
By the time Mao Pijiang arrived in Suzhou, it was already dark. Without stopping, he groped his way to Dong Xiaowan's residence. Along the way, he learned that she had been ill at home for twenty days since returning from Hangzhou, due to the loss of her mother. Mao Pijiang was both surprised and delighted. Upon reaching Dong Xiaowan's door, he immediately knocked. After knocking for a long time without response, he became anxious and began pounding on the door with his fist.
"Who is it?" Finally, a low echo came from upstairs. Mao Pijiang quickly announced his name.
The door slowly opened, and a woman dressed in mourning clothes, with disheveled hair and a pale face, emerged. She was none other than Xiaowan's maid, Xixi. Xixi saw Mao Pijiang sobbing and was speechless for a long time. After a while, she sighed and said, "Young Master Mao, you...you're too late."
Mao Pijiang was immediately stunned. He rushed into the room and ran upstairs. He saw that the outer room was dimly lit, cluttered, and the medicine pots were in disarray. His legs went numb, and tears streamed down his face. He entered the room, lifted the curtain, and saw Dong Xiaowan lying stiffly on the bed, her face ashen, her breathing weak, and she was on the verge of death.
Mao Pijiang was overwhelmed with grief and threw himself on Xiaowan's body, wailing, "Xiaowan! I've let you down! I'm too late!" He cried and lamented, his grief unbearable.
Dong Xiaowan was walking in the icy water in a daze when she suddenly heard someone calling her name. She opened her weary eyes slightly and was surprised to find the person she had been longing for day and night right in front of her. Seeing Dong Xiaowan awaken, Xixi quickly handed her a bowl of ginseng soup, which Mao Pijiang fed her spoonful by spoonful.
Dong Xiaowan, anxiously awaiting Mao Pijiang's arrival, hadn't eaten or drunk anything for nearly twenty days, and medicine had been ineffective. Suddenly, she sat up. Mao Pijiang hurriedly told Xiaowan about how he had delayed going to the capital to save his father, and how he had neglected his critically ill mother, thus breaking his promise. Hearing his account, Xiaowan realized that the young master was not a heartless man, and that his late-night visit showed his deep affection. Hope for Mao Pijiang was rekindled.
The two ate the red bean porridge Xixi had cooked, talking endlessly about their separation and sorrow, until the loud tolling of bells from Hanshan Temple reminded them that it was already broad daylight.
Mao Pijiang remembered his promise to Wang Tianjie to go to Nanjing for the imperial examinations and quickly told Dong Xiaowan. Upon hearing this, Xiaowan's face paled instantly. Unexpectedly, this meeting with the young master was once again fleeting. Mao Pijiang took out a pair of phoenix and dragon hairpins and a pair of jade bracelets given to him by Madam Su, promising to come and fetch Xiaowan after the autumn examinations to go to Rugao, so that they could have a happy reunion.
Since this was the case, Dong Xiaowan could not insist on staying, but agreed to see him off on the ship when it departed. Mao Pijiang, worried that Dong Xiaowan was recovering from a serious illness and could not bear the exertion, said, "Please rest and recuperate; there's no need for you to see me off while you're ill..." He seemed somewhat reluctant to part. Xiaowan,
understanding the greater good, said resolutely, "Young master, you must not hesitate. A true man should strive for great things. Even if you cannot move mountains and cross seas, or achieve extraordinary feats, you should still leave a mark on your life. Please do not let petty romantic feelings jeopardize your future." At this point, tears welled up in her eyes.
Seeing Xiaowan's deep affection, Mao Pijiang was heartbroken but helpless. He could only promise to go to Suzhou immediately to bring her back after the autumn examination.
Since parting from Mao Pijiang, Dong Xiaowan intended to stay home and wait for good news. However, less than half a month later, her father, having been framed, incurred a large gambling debt, and the creditors came to her door every day demanding repayment. Initially, her father tried to negotiate, promising to repay the principal and interest after the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the creditors forgave him and stopped pressing
her. But all these schemes were orchestrated by Zhu Tongrui out of resentment towards Dong Xiaowan; he wanted her, not the money. Zhu Tongrui worried that after the Mid-Autumn Festival, when Young Master Mao arrived, everything would be lost. So he sent his trusted servants, who conspired with a group of creditors, to cause trouble at her door every day, cursing and swearing, refusing to listen to any polite words or pleas.
Dong Xiaowan, having been insulted and humiliated, was furious and resentful of her ill-fated beauty. She contemplated suicide several times, but was saved by the gentle persuasion of Xixi and Aunt Shan. When Zhu Tongrui saw that threats and inducements had failed, he secretly plotted to abduct Xiaowan to his mansion.
Upon receiving this news, Dong Xiaowan bravely took the risk and, with Aunt Shan, sailed to Nanjing to seek refuge with Mao Pijiang. However, upon reaching Jiangyin, they encountered a pirate ship. Fortunately, Dong Xiaowan remained calm and composed, escaping danger. Just as they were about to reach Nanjing, a sudden storm arose at Yanziji, causing her to slip and fall into the river. Luckily, bystanders helped her, preventing her from drowning, but she was separated from Aunt Shan.
Though it sounds simple, Dong Xiaowan's life was fraught with hardship and adversity; she entered through the jaws of death and emerged from the clutches of wolves. When Dong Xiaowan finally arrived in Nanjing alone, it was already the sixteenth year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign. For over a year, Dong Xiaowan had been completely out of contact, leaving Mao Pijiang searching in vain. Rumors even circulated that she had drowned herself, causing him immense grief.
Fortunately, during this time, Mao Pijiang met Chen Yuanyuan, from whom he received much encouragement, rekindling his hope for life. However, fate intervened; Chen Yuanyuan was forcibly taken away by Tian Hongyu, dealing Mao Pijiang another devastating blow by the loss of his beloved. Just as
Mao Pijiang was sinking into despair, his friend Qian Muzhai from the Sanshan Sect sent him some incredible good news: "...
Dong Xiaowan is staying at the Qian residence, waiting to reunite with Mao Pijiang..." Upon receiving the news, Mao Pijiang immediately rushed to the Sanshan Sect.
After many twists and turns, Mao Pijiang and Dong Xiaowan were finally reunited. Upon seeing each other, they embraced and wept, sharing their anguish of longing. Mao Pijiang, of course, also told Dong Xiaowan about Chen Yuanyuan's situation. Upon hearing this, Dong Xiaowan broke out in a cold sweat, thinking that if she were to suffer the same fate as Chen Yuanyuan and be abducted by Zhu Tongrui, her strong-willed nature would surely lead her to commit suicide rather than endure the humiliation.
Meanwhile, the Qian family mansion was bustling with activity, hosting a banquet to celebrate Dong Xiaowan and Mao Pijiang's reunion. At the Peach Leaf River Pavilion, brightly lit and adorned with flowers, amidst the shimmering moonlight and flowing water, wine was poured and wine was offered as a token of appreciation. Poems were recited,
and people discussed flowers and admired the moon; the entire pavilion was filled with joy. As the fourth drumbeat sounded, the boats on the Qinhuai River dispersed, and at the Peach Leaf Ferry, the music and music ceased. Seeing that it was late and time was running out, Liu Rushi suggested, "Tonight is the joyous occasion of Young Master Mao and Sister Xiaowan's reunion. How about I, Xiaowan, sing a song for everyone to enjoy the festivities?" Everyone applauded and cheered.
That evening, Dong Xiaowan's cheeks were flushed, and she was radiant. She readily accepted the suggestion, gently opening her jade-like throat and gracefully dancing, singing Yan Xiaoshan's poem "Partridge Sky": "With colorful sleeves, I lovingly hold the jade cup; tonight, I'll risk my flushed face in drunkenness. The dance is low, like the moon reflected in the willow-lined pavilion; the song ends, like the wind blowing through the peach blossom fan. Since parting, I recall our meeting; how many times have my soul and dreams been with you? Tonight, I'll light the silver lamp, still fearing our meeting is
but a dream." The melodious and tender song gradually spread across the Qinhuai River, where moonlight and water mingled… During the banquet, Mao Pijiang, perhaps too excited, drank heavily, raising his cup repeatedly, until he became completely drunk, causing everyone to scramble to catch him. After settling Mao Pijiang down to bed, with Dong Xiaowan attending to him, everyone took their leave. Dong Xiaowan then gave him a hangover remedy and applied a warm compress with a damp towel, finally easing Mao Pijiang's drunkenness, and he slowly awoke. Seeing Dong Xiaowan tenderly attending to him, Mao Pijiang struggled to sit up, embracing her with deep gratitude and affection.
He gently patted her back and said softly, "Xiaowan, I have truly failed you greatly. From now on, no matter what, I will never leave you again. I want to be with you forever!"
Dong Xiaowan's heart leaped with joy. She gently pushed Mao Pijiang's shoulder, urging him to lie down, "Thank you, young master! You were drunk earlier, please rest early… Ah!…" Before she could finish speaking, Mao Pijiang, following her movement, pulled her down onto his body, pressing his lips to hers.
Dong Xiaowan, as if releasing pent-up longing, responded passionately. In the heat of their kiss, Dong Xiaowan, tears welling in her eyes, murmured, "...Young Master...Xiaowan misses you so much..."
Mao Pijiang felt as if he had just sobered up, but now he was drunk again—drunk on desire. The two kissed, rolled, and caressed each other passionately... Soon, their clothes were scattered on the floor.
Mao Pijiang lay on his back on the bed, leaning against the inside; Dong Xiaowan faced him, pressed close to him, her head resting on his chest, her sleepy, alluring eyes gazing at the penis she was stroking—Mao Pijiang's large, erect, red-headed jade rod. Dong Xiaowan savored the memory of their first night in Suzhou, sometimes smiling sweetly, sometimes gazing tenderly. Suddenly, Dong Xiaowan felt a surge of spring fever, and her body began to stir again, her hands gripping the jade stem tightly, stroking it continuously.
Mao Pijiang turned his head to look at Dong Xiaowan's face. Her eyes were filled with spring, her neck lowered, and her smile radiant. His own penis was held in her hand, stroking it rhythmically. She was now completely naked, her breasts heaving, waves of flesh rippling, her nipples lightly brushing against her chest. Dong Xiaowan's snow-white thighs rubbed against Mao Pijiang's lower body, the movement revealing glimpses of dark hair beneath her flat stomach—a sight that grew increasingly captivating. As
his lust intensified, Mao Pijiang reached out and began to caress Dong Xiaowan's breasts; his other hand traced the smoothness of her back. Dong Xiaowan's moans grew louder, her lower body writhing more violently until her entire vulva was like a brush, rubbing against Mao Pijiang's thighs, the lustful fluids from her vagina wetting his thighs.
Dong Xiaowan's lust seemed to reach its peak, suddenly transforming her into a frenzied harlot. She flipped over, spread her legs, and guided Mao Pijiang's penis to her vulva. With a soft "Mmm!", she sat down, and "Plop!" his penis slid in completely without resistance.
Dong Xiaowan felt a slight sting at the entrance of her vagina, but immediately the pleasurable fullness of his penis against her clitoris filled her entire body, sending a shiver down her spine. Dong Xiaowan leaned forward slightly, supporting herself with her hands on either side of Mao Pijiang, slowly lifting her hips before slowly sitting down, allowing his penis to "go in and out" of her vagina.
Mao Pijiang watched Dong Xiaowan's clumsy movements, her breasts swaying back and forth. By simply propping his head up, he could see the point where their bodies were joined. Mao Pijiang found it both pleasurable and pleasing to the eye, involuntarily thrusting his hips in sync with Dong Xiaowan's movements, while Dong Xiaowan's movements became increasingly skilled and faster.
Dong Xiaowan's swaying breasts, moving rhythmically with her movements, brushed against Mao Pijiang's chest. Each time their skin was gently touched, they would both shudder and let out a soft groan. Dong Xiaowan's labia, constantly moving with the thrusting of his penis, would release a stream of vaginal fluid, soaking their pubic hair and making it glisten. Suddenly,
Dong Xiaowan gasped for breath, straightening her body, tossing her loose hair, and tilting her head back, uttering panting, lewd moans. Before Mao Pijiang could understand, he felt his penis being overwhelmed by waves of heat, a burning sensation running through his body. His legs straightened, his penis trembled, and a gush of hot semen shot out from his urethra, shooting deep into Dong Xiaowan's vagina.
"Mmm!" With a soft moan of happiness and satisfaction, Dong Xiaowan slumped against Mao Pijiang's body again, feeling even more fluid welling up inside her vagina. Combined with Mao Pijiang's penis and semen, her vagina felt completely full, the intense pleasure lingering long after the initial climax…
※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※ The next day, Mao Pijiang, Dong Xiaowan, and Liu Rushi were discussing Xiaowan's divorce and debt repayment when they suddenly received two urgent letters. One was a handwritten edict from Mao Pijiang's father, stating that the Emperor had granted her divorce and ordered Mao Pijiang to go to Wuhu immediately to welcome her. The other was a letter from Suzhou, mentioning that the creditors in Suzhou, upon hearing the news of Dong Xiaowan's reappearance, had come to cause trouble. Zhu Tongrui even claimed that if Dong Xiaowan did not return to repay her father's debts, he would burn the Dong family home to the ground. This left Xiaowan and Pijiang extremely anxious and distraught.
Just then, Liu Shijun, Pijiang's sworn brother, immediately decided that he and Xiaowan should first go to Suzhou to ask the Suzhou prefect to issue a notice announcing the repayment plan and calming the public. After Pijiang brought his father back, they would then go to Suzhou to fetch Dong Xiaowan.
Friends from the Fushe Society and the Qinhuai sisters, seeing that Dong Xiaowan was returning to Suzhou to repay her debts, showered her with jewelry and silver, doing their best to help. Xiaowan was initially distressed and weeping, but seeing that Prefect Liu was accompanying her, the Suzhou prefect was present, and she had the money to repay the debt, she gained courage. So she bid farewell to Pijiang and the sisters and went to Suzhou with Prefect Liu.
Upon arriving in Suzhou, Liu Shijun immediately issued a notice not announcing the repayment plan. Unexpectedly, this alerted Zhu Tongrui, who, in desperation, kidnapped Dong Xiaowan on a dark and windy night and hid her.
Upon learning of Xiaowan's sudden disappearance, Liu Dashou anxiously met with the Suzhou prefect to search for her and urgently sent a messenger to Lord Qian Muzhai, requesting him to find a solution immediately. Qian Muzhai and Liu Rushi rushed to Suzhou, met with the prefect, and promptly solved the case, settling the debts and completing the formalities for Dong Xiaowan's rehabilitation. On
the 28th day of the twelfth month of the sixteenth year of Chongzhen's reign, the Mao residence was brightly decorated with lanterns and candles, filled with joy. At dusk, the wedding procession carried Dong Xiaowan, dressed in auspicious attire, out of the Shuihui Garden in a bridal sedan chair and brought her back to the Mao family home.
By the time the banquet ended and the guests had departed, it was past midnight. Mao Pijiang returned to the bridal chamber, gazing at the beautiful Dong Xiaowan before the dressing table by candlelight, and smiled… He softly recited: "Yesterday and tonight are so different, the new bride is even more beautiful than the old. Like swallows flying in pairs among jade ornaments, like two hearts united on the mandarin duck pillow."
Dong Xiaowan, seeing this, also smiled and recited: "I rejoiced in your fame at Meixiang Tower, my dreams linger with longing to meet you. We met in a drunken stupor and were united in marriage, a predestined bond fulfilled after surviving a calamity."
After reciting, the two exchanged a knowing smile. Of course…
afterwards, Dong Xiaowan went to the mansion every morning to help Su Yuanfang with household chores. In the afternoons, she would go to Shuihui Garden to accompany the young master, playing the zither, enjoying fragrant tea, creating calligraphy and paintings, and discussing poetry and literature.
She showed utmost respect to her parents-in-law, treated Mao Pijiang with the same harmony as a zither and lute, and was extremely friendly with Madam Su.
Within a few months, everyone in the Mao household was pleased with her.
※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※ (Epilogue)
On March 19th of the seventeenth year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign, Li Zicheng's army stormed into Beijing, and the Chongzhen Emperor hanged himself on Coal Hill. In May, the Prince of Fu ascended the throne, and the following year was renamed the first year of the Hongguang reign. Furthermore, because Wu Sangui opened the gates and surrendered to the Qing, the Qing army took advantage of the situation and swept through the city, conquering cities and passes with the force of a whirlwind.
In May of the eighteenth year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign, Yangzhou and Nanjing fell to the Qing army in succession. "The copper mountains collapsed in the west, and the copper mines in the east responded." Panic gripped the city of Rugao, and nine out of ten houses were emptied in an instant. Seeing this, Mao Pijiang was greatly alarmed and hurriedly consulted with Dong Xiaowan. Xiaowan said, "When the nest is overturned, how can the eggs remain intact? I think the best strategy is to flee. For now, the only option is to avoid the enemy's advance and hide temporarily." So,
the whole family went to seek refuge with Chen Zeliang in Yanguan. Upon arriving in Yanguan, they learned that Chen Zeliang's family had moved away several days earlier to avoid the chaos. Mao Pijiang's family was now in a foreign land, unfamiliar with everyone and everything. Mao Pijiang also fell into the water on the way and developed a fever.
A few days later, Mao Pijiang fell ill. He suffered from chills, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Dong Xiaowan and Su Yuanfang pawned their jewelry to buy medicine for Mao Pijiang. Under Xiaowan's careful care, his condition gradually improved. At this time, Dong Xiaowan's face was ashen, her body withered, her eyes bloodshot, and her fingers parched. Her mother-in-law and Yuanfang tried several times to replace her, but she refused, saying, "If I can do my best to serve the young master well, that is a blessing for the whole family. If the young master can be cured, even if I die, I will live on in death."
Meanwhile, Rugao City was peaceful and stable. Mao Pijiang, following his father's orders, hired a small boat and quietly returned the whole family to Rugao, ending their nearly ten months of wandering.
After returning to Rugao, Mao Pijiang and Dong Xiaowan refused all relatives and friends, never leaving their home. At this time, former Ming officials such as Wu Sangui and Hong Chengchou had surrendered to the Qing, and Donglin Fushe figures such as Qian Muzhai and Hou Chaozong had also successively submitted to the new court. Mao Pijiang, however, retired to his home, living a secluded life, vowing never to serve as an official, and spending his days feasting and socializing with Dong Xiaowan and her entourage.
In the eighth year of the Shunzhi Emperor's reign, Dong Xiaowan, a renowned and beautiful woman of the Qinhuai River region, passed away from overwork at the age of twenty-seven.
To commemorate her, Mao Pijiang wrote a short account of Dong Xiaowan's life, the poignant and moving book *Yingmei'an Yihua* (Memories of Yingmei Hermitage). It vividly portrays Dong Xiaowan's passionate emotions, strong will, noble character, and extraordinary talent. Even at the age of eighty-two, Mao Pijiang still fondly remembered Dong Xiaowan and wrote a seven-character quatrain on a scroll: "New silk? Lotus-colored robe, a song at the banquet, a cup raised.
Once sang of Yangguan, shedding tears of parting, Suzhou lonely, returning home."
