Online Game God Capital

Prologue.
I logged out of the game.
"Boss, this week's maintenance schedule is full. Tell Zhang Long tomorrow not to take any more orders." Locke glanced up at me as I climbed out of the game pod, tossing a stack of documents onto the table beside me. I wiped the sweat from my brow with the towel hanging on the handle, glancing at the clock on the wall to confirm the time.
"Okay, you can go now. I'll settle the accounts." Locke felt like he'd been granted a reprieve upon hearing this, frantically grabbing his pre-packed backpack and fleeing the shop like a mad chick. It was the weekend, after all; he'd probably been waiting outside the game pod with that stack of orders for a long time before I logged out.
After Locke left, I was the only one left in the shop. This quiet environment was infinitely better than the noisy daytime.
This Crk wrist computer store is mine. I just paid off the bank loan last year, but I still owe my mom about 100,000 yuan. I currently employ four people: Locke, Yake, Lili, and Zhang Long.
Locke, who's in charge of finance and scheduling, is a white man. He's averse to trouble, prone to making a fuss, and likes to complain. I find him quite annoying, as do the others. However, his Chinese is really good, and he's flawless in his work, so I can't really criticize him.
Yake, a black man, doesn't talk much, but he's very strong—a perfect personality for handling odd jobs. When he smiles, he shows thick teeth, and his breath has a strong, unpleasant beefy smell.
Reception and customer service jobs definitely can't be done by men, so Lili is in charge of this area. She just graduated from university, has an outgoing personality, and isn't bad-looking—that's typical of mixed-race people. During the day, when I'm working, I greet people as they walk in with a smile, and they're basically considered repeat customers. But it's true that this girl can be a bit of a social butterfly when we're out having fun.
Zhang Long is my friend; we grew up in the same community, and he works as a maintenance technician here. He studied this in college and is very good at it. He owns 20% of the shop—his technical skills.
After I finished checking the accounts, I locked the manager's office door and then pushed the repair room door twice.
Yes, locked. Zhang Long is meticulous.
I still had some time, so I grabbed a piece of cotton cloth and started wiping the samples on the outer counter. I hate it when some unclean customers bring their greasy hands to the sample machine, leaving their hands covered in oil. Think about it, when you try out a new electronic product and it's slippery and sticky to the touch, would you still want to come back to this store? Selling Crk computers isn't actually profitable; we barely break even. The real profit comes from repair fees and spare parts.
It's not that Crk products are of poor quality, but people these days are too careless with their devices.
I carefully wiped down a few machines when two car horns honked outside.
I stuffed the cloth under the counter, grabbed my coat, and dashed out of the store.
"Hurry, hurry, we're going to be late!" The girl in the denim vest and leather skirt is my girlfriend. Her name is quite interesting—Ai Yingfeng. Yingfeng sounds like the name of a sushi restaurant; I always tease her about it.
She was standing next to her secondhand "Wishing Star" floating car, tapping her toes nervously, looking a little anxious. The movie was at 7:30, and it was 7:15 now; if there was even a little traffic, she'd miss the opening trailer. We both loved watching that.
I thought to myself, "It's your own fault for being late, how can you blame me?" and tapped the CR key on my wrist, locking the shop door.
"I'll drive," I said casually.
"No!" she raised her voice, opening the door and shoving me into the passenger seat. She treated this car like a precious treasure; I wouldn't let her touch it.
Actually, I quite liked just watching her look at the car; her profile was especially beautiful. And when she was focused, she liked to purse her lips, and every time that happened, I felt an overwhelming urge to kiss her.
"Little Bee, how was your day?" I said, subconsciously reaching for the cigarette pack in my pocket, then broke out in a cold sweat—that was close! If she saw that, she'd kill me! "Pretty good. You don't know, Kevin gave me a hard time today, nagging me to the supervisor! It really made me so angry! Later, I secretly spilled Coke on his chair, and he didn't know! Hahaha!" That's how women are; they start with a "pretty good," then ramble on and on. At times like this, I just switch to auto-reply mode: "Really?" "Really?" "That's okay?" "Hahahaha." These are all correct answers. Incorrect answers include "Hmm," "Oh," "Ah," and... silence.
"Oh no," she said, slowing down. I turned my head and saw a long line of cars ahead, driving at speeds below double digits. Judging by the looks of it, the movie wouldn't be able to be watched properly.
"Move up a lane?" I pointed overhead. There were quite a few cars in the second and third lanes, but it was still better than the first lane we were in. The fourth lane was empty, and of course, no one dared to move up; that was for emergency vehicles.
She sighed and started shifting gears. A good car is a good car; even though it was secondhand, the lane shifting process was still incredibly fast.
But after a while, the second and third lanes also gradually slowed down. Logically, this shouldn't be the case, but what can you do when it's the weekend? I subconsciously touched the movie ticket in my pocket—oh no, those two hundred yuan were wasted.
"Oh, I really want to see that movie!!" Little Bee slapped the steering wheel slightly fiercely, making the car float slowly forward in the airborne traffic.
I placed my hand on her leg and gently stroked it.
"Oh, stop it, it tickles... I'm driving..." she complained, twisting her taut, shapely thighs.
I didn't give up so easily; my fingertips gently slipped under the hem of her skirt.
When I lightly licked her earlobe, her breathing became very rapid.
"Let's not go..." I whispered in her ear.
Little Bee's face was flushed, glistening slightly under the streetlights.
"Then, where to..." I flicked the steering wheel in her hand, and the flying car veered off the road, "diving" towards the nearest hotel.
When Little Bee finally managed to park the flying car in the hotel parking space, her stockings were soaked. She gave me a reproachful look with her watery eyes, making my heart race.
The moment I locked the door with the room key, Little Bee bit my earlobe hard from behind. Before I could even cry out in pain, her small, soft tongue slipped into my ear. The
slippery touch, accompanied by a seductive sound, sent chills down my spine. I roughly pinched her face towards me and then kissed her fiercely. Perhaps I used too much force, because she let out a soft moan as I forcefully thrust my tongue inside.
That moan, which made my lower abdomen burn, emboldened me, and I began to violently tear at her clothes.
"No...no...if you...you ruin it...then I'll have nothing...nothing to wear..." Yingfeng's soft, buzzing voice calmed me down a little, but it only made her clothes fall off her even faster.
She panted as she stripped me naked as well...women are often more rhythmic than men in these situations, I chuckled to myself.
When I pressed my penis against her lower body, all that was left was a large patch of hot, wet flesh. She obediently let me lay her down on the bed, then closed her eyes tightly.
She was always like this; no matter how crazy we got, she rarely opened her eyes, at most just a tiny slit, letting me see only the glistening moisture inside.
"Ugh..." she groaned, wrapping her arms around my neck and pulling me closer.
I slid my lower body up and down along her slippery, sticky crevice, and she bit her lip.
"Ah! Don't...like this...like this I...ah...I can't...I...ah... If you keep this up...I...I'll get angry...ahhhhhh!!!!" She trembled all over, squinting at me coquettishly, when I thrust my penis in forcefully, so that the rest of her sentence was completely swallowed by a melting moan.
"...You always...like this...suddenly going in...it hurts...ah...wait a minute...ah...ah...you...you don't...ahhhhhhh...woo..." A look of pain crossed her face as she gasped for breath, her hands haphazardly pressing against my abdomen, seemingly trying to ease the overly stimulating sensation. But I didn't give her what she wanted, and instead, I mischievously thrust several times.
I pulled back to the outermost edge, then thrust in forcefully to the deepest point. Her brows furrowed, her eyes filled with tears, her mouth opened wide but no sound came out.
I seized the opportunity to kiss her again, hooking her tongue around mine, then slowing down. She hugged me tighter, and as we rocked together, she whimpered softly, emitting adorable moans.
Her insides were warm like a hot spring, and after pushing my entire member deep inside, I couldn't help but stop. The feeling of being completely enveloped by her trembling, tender walls was both wondrous and pleasurable.
My member was also twitching involuntarily, the tip pressing against the tightly closed entrance to her chamber. Her lips began to tremble, she squinted at me, and her waist began to twist uncontrollably.
"No... don't... keep... pressing there... it hurts..." "But it feels so good..." I murmured in her ear with a smile.
"You big jerk...you only care about yourself...you're so bad..." She gently shook my head with her hand, "You're bullying me again..." I lovingly licked her lips, and she generously stuck out her little tongue to try and keep me there.
I didn't give her that chance. I propped myself up, wrapped my arms around her waist, pulled her towards me, and began a fierce assault.
The sudden burst of pleasure from below made Little Bee immediately cover her mouth with her hand, but she couldn't help but let out a short scream.
"...Ah...ah...you...slower...no...faster...ah...woo..." In the intense sensation, Little Bee was quickly overwhelmed. She soon lost her senses and began to utter indistinct, almost inaudible but melodious moans. The sound was full of confusion and the desire to be released, which always fascinated me.
While she was still dazed, I leaned down and gently combed her curly hair at her temples, then pulled myself out from under her and rolled over, holding her. This action brought her back to some senses.
"...Waaah...I don't like it..." She propped herself up with her hands, pouting, trying to return to her lying position.
I gently pushed her hands away, and she fell back onto the soft bed. I grabbed her wrists and pressed myself against her from behind.
"How could I let you resist~" I smiled and kissed her neck.
"I hate you~~ Ah...ah! Don't lick my ears..." She smiled, her eyes narrowed, making a token struggle, but my hands shielded her little claws beneath her, leaving her powerless.
I began to enter her from behind. Yingfeng, already extremely sensitive, let out a long, trembling sound as I entered her again.
"Ahhhhhh...again...again from behind...waaaaaaahh
...
"Ugh...kiss...kiss...kiss me...it's...coming...I can't take it anymore...ahhh..." I held her head in my hands, completely releasing my emotions. Our tongues convulsed wildly, intertwining with each other. I greedily tasted her sweet saliva, biting her tender lips.
Yingfeng's whole body began to tremble, violently trembling, her tight passage below conveying endless pleasure. A surge of fluid, making her blush, soaked a large patch of the sheet beneath us.
Under the intense influence of emotions, I also unleashed my pent-up pleasure inside her.
Her whole body heaved as if she were suffocating, gasping for air, her hands still trembling after half a minute. I was also panting, but I didn't give up on continuing to invade her moist lips.
After we were full, Little Bee and I started our journey home.
"Are you going online tonight?" I threw myself into the soft seat, letting the breeze blowing in from the window wash away the lingering scent of her perfume. My family is such a pain; once they smell it, they'll stare at me with lewd eyes for days. I hate that.
"No, I'm not going. My brother's probably playing. If you go online, water the plants for me." She said as she drove, the lingering scent on her face magical in the night lights.
I nodded, then turned to look at the rows of tall buildings lining both sides of the road. I always feel that the longer you look at this real world, the more you'll like the other world. Perhaps, as long as I can be with Yingfeng, it doesn't matter where we are.
When I got home and opened the door, I saw my parents leaning on the sofa, eating grapes and watching TV. I grabbed a couple and popped them into my mouth.
"You smell...you went to a hotel with Yingfeng again, I bet," Dad said to Mom with a crooked grin.
Mom punched him.
I sheepishly took off my coat, hung it on the hanger, and went upstairs. Who knows what this old man will say if I stay any longer?
I crawled into the game pod and logged into [Shen Du]. I logged out from my own house in the game, so the first thing I saw after logging in was the ceiling.
Grabbing the water jug from the corner, I headed out the door. I couldn't forget this; if Yingfeng saw my flowers wither tomorrow, she'd kill me.
"Greedy Wolf!" I heard someone call me as soon as I stepped outside.
This guy's ID was 774, a friend I met in the game. I always thought using numbers as IDs was stupid, and true to his name, I think he really was sometimes incredibly stupid.
"I'm F-rank! Just got tested at the assessment center!" he shouted excitedly.
"Got it, got it~~" I glanced down at the in-game crit on my wrist; there were a few emails.
"When are we going to have another match?" 774 kept pestering me.
"Let's talk when you reach D-rank, otherwise you'll say I bullied you after you lose." I just tested myself last week, and I'm two ranks higher than him.
"Okay..." Just like the outside world, it's nighttime in [Divine Capital]. I casually carried the watering can towards the stream outside the town, preparing to water the flowers and plants Yingfeng planted in front of our house.
The air in this world is much fresher than outside. I think most people who stay in [Divine Capital] are only here for this false sense of fresh air and the azure sky above—of course, it's pitch black now, but at least you can still see the stars. I remember not seeing stars in the outside world since I was ten.
Yingfeng's hobby in this world is planting flowers. If she didn't do this, she wouldn't have started playing this game with me in the first place. At first, I took her on adventures around this world, hunting monsters, but she didn't seem interested in any of it. So we settled in this city and built a wooden house.
Aside from the reckless, most players don't venture out; they settle in their initial town because there's more to this world than just fighting. For most players between forty and ninety, basking in the sun and smelling the grass is better than anything else.
[Shen Du] has been running for five years, and almost immediately after the widespread adoption of quantum networks, this game captured the market at an unimaginable speed. It gives the illusion that the game was ready long ago, just waiting for the quantum network to mature.
The combat levels in [Shen Du] range from A to Z. I've been playing [Shen Du] for a year and am at level D, which is among the highest in this Red Pine City. If I remember correctly, the city guard only has three warriors higher than me. Of
course, that "monster" is a different story.
After settling in Red Pine City, I finally discovered that my greatest interest in this world was actually "building with blocks." The sense of accomplishment when you build a tall structure using the simplest stones and wood is indescribable.
Unlike other online games, it's hard to make money in the world of [Divine Capital]. Killing monsters doesn't reward you with any money, and you can't get quests like "kill xx monsters" in the city.
But you can try growing things, like apple trees, or brewing some wine—those who love to drink never have to worry about ruining their livers in this world.
Or, like me, you can help others build houses; many people are happy to pay for these things. Most of my neighbors' houses were built with my help, of course, I contributed most of the labor and materials.
I'm quite confident in the style and taste of my house designs; at least they all say they're quite good.
There's still an unfinished house on the west side of town, but I don't plan to continue working on it tonight. I haven't found a suitable buyer yet, so I'm not in a hurry.
"Are you alone? Where's your girlfriend?" As I walked to the stream, a guy sat on the steps of a nearby cabin, watching me.
"Heh, she's not playing tonight." I smiled at the man, walked over, and sat down on the steps. I took the cigarette he offered and slowly took a drag.
Her ID is Elegy, a rather somber name. Her personality matches her name—quiet, not very sociable, and cold to strangers. But if you remember, she's the strange creature I mentioned before.
However, if she were sitting in front of the cabin dressed like this, in ordinary clothes, no one would believe that such a beautiful girl could be a high-level warrior.
I've never seen her seriously fight anyone. However, even when I sparred with her at full strength, her sword invariably ended up pointing at my neck within a minute. I once asked her about her rank, but she never answered; I think she must have reached rank A. I
first encountered her here; she was severely injured, and I saved her. While bandaging her, she let out a very painful groan, so I know her neurorealism level must be very high.
I've set my neurorealism level to the highest, level one, with sensory stimulation intensity around 50%. In this state, I find food tastes sweeter than with lower-level neurorealism. Correspondingly, injuries from combat are also extremely painful. If you
die in this world, your character is truly dead. To continue playing, you have to start all over again; no one wants to give up their life here easily. But I don't think my saving her would make Elegy particularly grateful, because even if she lost her combat level, her combat skills wouldn't disappear with the character's death.
Anyway, we became friends. The house she lives in now is naturally my creation, but unlike others, this girl has never praised my masterpiece, which used to annoy me a little.
She hardly talks to anyone. 774, Luanwu, Isaac, these friends of mine all tried to strike up a conversation with her, but all to no avail. This wasn't because Elegy was cold; quite the opposite, the gentle sweetness in her smile sometimes made even a little bee jealous.
The real reason was that she seemed uninterested in anything those guys talked about, so their conversations rarely lasted long. And the silences that followed often made both sides feel awkward.
It wasn't that we had any particularly interesting topics to discuss, but rather that we could easily accept our silences and share a cigarette like this.
"How did you know Little Bee wasn't here?" I asked her, leaning against the wooden railing.
Elegy pointed to the water jug at my feet: "You were the one who came to fetch water today." "You're quite observant..." Elegy tossed her long hair, and as she looked up, about to say something, my CROK on my wrist beeped.
It was Zhang Long... that guy, although he also lived in Red Pine City, liked to wander around aimlessly.
"Greedy Wolf! A bandit gang called Black Flame is coming to rob Barrel Town!! The town has already issued a bounty! Anyone who comes gets a thousand gold coins! Hurry up, or it'll be too late!" "Okay! Don't get involved in the fight before I get there, understand?" "Got it, just hurry up!" I jumped up after closing Crack: "Are you going or not?" Wange shook her head. I knew she would refuse; she always does. What I don't understand is, if she doesn't like fighting, why does she level up her combat level so high?
Just as I was about to rush home to get my equipment, Wange reached out and tugged at me. I looked at her in confusion.
"There are high-level warriors in the Black Flame, it's best not to go." I laughed nonchalantly, "Don't worry, if I can't beat them, I'll run. They want to take Wooden Barrel Town, there's no need for them to mess with me." Wange didn't say anything more. I turned and accelerated, leaving her and the wooden house behind.
"Aaaaaaah!!" The energy blast I unleashed sent the enemy in front of me flying. The guy's scream made my eardrums tingle. Behind me, Zhang Long swung his sword six times in succession, shattering another guy's energy blade aimed at us.
"Any energy left?!" I shouted at him.
"Not much!! I can still make a D-grade energy shield!!" "Let's make it!" I added the remaining energy to my weapon and charged towards the enemy.
Zhang Long cursed behind me, but it was quickly drowned out by the sound of energy explosions around him. He followed closely behind me, enveloping me in an energy shield.
Having already taken down two, we were out of energy to accelerate. The remaining guy didn't seem particularly high-level; all the energy blades he unleashed as we charged at him were blocked by Zhang Long's shield.
When the shield shattered, I was already in front of him, sword raised high. My weapon, imbued with all my remaining energy, cleaved through his shield, leaving a fatal wound where his neck and right shoulder met.
Zhang Long and I collapsed to the ground, exhausted. The fighting around us seemed to have ended; many houses were ablaze with energy flames, billowing thick smoke into the night sky.
Unfortunately, we had lost.
"Damn it… only a few came, how could we possibly hold off so many on the other side…" Zhang Long said angrily, watching the black flames closing in.
Although we only killed one of them, it gave them enough reason to sentence us to death. When the enemy leader and his remaining six henchmen surrounded us, I felt a sense of despair.
"Not bad, you two," the guy said, looking down at us.
I sized him up and regretted it even more. This guy was clearly the kind of person who was very passionate about fighting. That armor was probably worth all of Little Bee's and my in-game savings, not to mention the high-level weapon he was carrying. It was hard to imagine that someone with that kind of equipment would be a lower level than us.
"This thousand gold coins was really not worth it..." I said to Zhang Long, who shook his head with a wry smile.
"If you two join our Black Flame, I might spare your lives. Your combat talent is decent, but you lack experience. Think it over." "Enough talk, let's get started. If you keep arguing, our energy will be fully restored, and you'll regret it then," Zhang Long said.
The guy let out an extremely arrogant laugh: "You two think you can beat me?" "How will you know if you don't try?" I retorted defiantly. It was naive, but I didn't want to give up on this character I'd painstakingly trained to D-rank. As long as there was a sliver of hope, I didn't mind using some underhanded methods.
The guy's smile vanished, and he waved for his subordinates to retreat.
"I'll stand here, you guys go all out and hack away." "How much energy have you recovered?" I asked Zhang Long in a low voice.
"About ten percent." "Mine's about the same… transfer it all to me…" This was a secret. During a previous adventure, Zhang Long and I obtained a spell that only required a small amount of magic power to activate, allowing us to transfer energy between each other. However, using this spell came at a cost: both users would permanently drop two combat ranks after the spell took effect for one hour.
Zhang Long didn't hesitate and immediately did as instructed; after all, compared to leveling up again, losing two ranks was nothing. My energy quickly increased to nearly twenty percent, which was enough.
The maximum energy this sword could hold was ten percent of my total energy, and I could use the remaining energy for a short-range full-energy acceleration. I began to focus my energy on the sword, which would take a few seconds. In actual combat, you would never have the opportunity to unleash such a full-energy attack, but this guy was too overconfident.
A D-rank warrior's full-power level one attack—even with an A-rank energy shield, you couldn't escape unscathed. He probably thought our energy wasn't enough for that level of attack, but the spell had miscalculated.
The energy loaded on the sword was so immense that my hands began to tremble uncontrollably. This was the first time I'd ever imbued a weapon with so much energy; I'd never done it before.
I raised the sword and charged towards the man standing with his arms crossed, then suddenly accelerated to full power when I was five meters away. The
immense acceleration made my vision blur, and I couldn't see his expression at all. I could only rely on my senses to bring the weapon down with all my might.
The instant the sword made contact with the man's energy shield, the shield vibrated violently. The sword penetrated a full third of the shield, but it didn't break through it… This is impossible… The shield's protective capabilities are even higher than Grade A! This was the only question that could cross my mind.
"Well done. Looks like I underestimated you guys..." The guy grinned. "Now it's my turn." He drew his sword and swung it towards my chest. My remaining sanity forced me to release my weapon, perform a final energy leap backward to dodge the attack, and then crash to the ground.
A massive energy blade suddenly shrieked as it hurtled towards the enemy trying to continue attacking me. This unexpected attack forced the guy to stop what he was doing and re-form a high-level shield for defense.
When the energy blade tore through the shield and blasted its owner's body in two, everyone present froze. The blood gushing from the corpse was instantly vaporized by the scorching energy, leaving a strong smell of rust in the air. The body, now missing its lower half, tumbled twice in the air before crashing heavily to the ground with a dull thud.
I turned around and saw Elegy descending from the sky, wearing a familiar yet unfamiliar suit of armor. I remembered that armor; she was dressed like that the first time I met her… I hadn't seen her wear it in a long time.
No one moved when they saw her. The Black Flame guys were too scared, and the two of us were too exhausted.
Elegy didn't speak. She glanced at the leader's corpse, then waved the sword in her hand at the others, signaling them to leave.
The Black Flame members didn't waste any words; they knew that anything said in the face of this level of power was a joke. After taking the other wounded members, they quickly disappeared from our sight.
Zhang Long and I looked at each other. It seemed we wouldn't get a good night's sleep.
When we woke up the next day, the shop had already opened. I rushed into the shop in a panic, only to find that I had missed three customers with appointments. Locke had to reschedule the week's appointments, and he was furious.
Zhang Long also had dark circles under his eyes; like me, he hadn't been able to fully enjoy a good night's sleep.
This wasn't the first time I'd faced death in a game, but it was definitely the first time I'd been this close. It's hard to imagine if Elegy hadn't shown up at the end, would either of us still be in the mood to continue working?
To escape Locke's nagging, I hid in Zhang Long's repair shop. I'm really a shameful boss.
"Damn it, 774's happy now. I've been downgraded to F-rank, he'll definitely keep pestering me to fight..." I muttered casually.
Zhang Long frowned. "I've been thinking about that battle all night..." "What's there to think about?" "What level is your friend?" "You mean Wange should be A-rank?" Zhang Long shook his head thoughtfully. "Your full-energy attack couldn't break through that guy's A-rank shield, that's acceptable, he might have equipment to amplify shield strength... But Wange's energy blade, don't you think it was too strong?" Energy blades are more prone to energy dissipation and loss, and without continuous local energy acceleration, their attack power is completely incomparable to a direct slash.
"Maybe she also has equipment specifically designed to amplify energy blade attack power, who knows..." I found an excuse to comfort myself.
Zhang Long didn't say anything more, but he seemed unwilling to let it go.
All day long, I was a bit distracted, so I finally put down what I was doing and logged into the game.
After yesterday's battle, we were both exhausted, and Zhang Long and I logged off immediately after disengaging from combat. Logging in, I was stunned for a moment by the vast expanse of charred houses before me. I've seen buildings destroyed in battle before, but seeing half a town destroyed didn't sit well with me.
Having lost two levels, I felt noticeably weaker flying back to Red Pine City. The energy boost was also underwhelming, which made me even more upset.
Logging off yesterday was a bit rushed, and with Zhang Long beside me, I didn't have time to ask Wange many questions. That's why I logged into the game during work hours. Passing through the
dense forest, Wange's wooden house gradually came into view. When I looked closely, I found her standing in the open space outside the door.
Sometimes I wondered if she was ever offline, because she was almost always there whenever I came to find her. Could she be a "battery"? But it's hard
to imagine a woman as outstanding as her doing that.
With the maturity of [Shen Du]'s technology, a new profession emerged three years ago, which we all call "batteries." These people use specific equipment to convert their bioelectricity into environmentally friendly and efficient energy while logging into the game; [Shen Du] and government agencies cooperate to ensure they can be online 24 hours a day using automatic nutrition supplements and metabolic devices.
Most people, like me, feel that these "batteries" are often useless in the real world; they are just mindlessly immersed in the virtual world of [Shen Du]. Red Pine City has quite a few so-called "batteries," most of whom are assigned by the operating company to work in town system shops, similar to replacing AI roles. Only a few are leaders of the city guard, and their combat level is not low. In
[Divine Capital], you can't set your own virtual avatar; if you're ugly outside, you won't become beautiful in this world. I'm glad about this, at least I don't need a virtual avatar to salvage my self-confidence.
Elegy is quite good-looking, so I don't think she could be a "battery." This isn't prejudice, because if you're a woman with a reasonably good face, you wouldn't be so self-deprecating.
Moreover, I instinctively feel that she has an inexplicable aura, a sense of superiority that those useless "batteries" could never possess.
When I saw her, Elegy noticed me too, but she didn't stop what she was doing.
She was still wearing her armor, holding the sword that had killed the leader of the Black Flame Clan. Elegy wasn't fighting anyone, nor was she increasing her energy; she was simply swinging her weapon as if in a trance.
This was the first time I'd ever seen someone practice swordsmanship like this. It looked a bit silly, after all, this pretentious weapon-wielding wouldn't increase your level… I stood aside, watching her movements with interest. Elegy's sword swings were skillful and fluid, but not fast. Even someone like me with less-than-stellar reflexes could clearly grasp the trajectory of the blade.
Of course, if she were to use localized energy acceleration, it would be a different story.
A few minutes later, Elegy sheathed her sword and walked towards me.
"Isn't this heavy?" I pointed to her somewhat heavy armor. Although it was a women's outfit, wearing that kind of thing all the time was still a burden on the body.
"I'm only now realizing that I seem to have almost forgotten what combat feels like..." she said softly.
I looked at her strangely for a moment.
"Um, last night... thanks." Wange stared at me for a few seconds, which made me a little uncomfortable.
"I've never thanked you since you saved me, I forgot." I grinned and sighed, "Honestly, what level are you? Last night that guy couldn't even withstand one of your moves..." Wange reached behind her head and untied her long hair, which she had tied up while practicing swordsmanship, then gently shook it. Her chestnut-brown, smooth hair shimmered slightly in the sunlight.
"Does that matter...? If possible, I'd rather not have to wield a sword again." "Then you didn't need to come along last night." Elegy was silent for a long while, then turned and walked to the steps in front of the wooden house, sitting down. Her armor made a slight rustling sound. I followed.
"Greedy Wolf. If I asked you, could you please stop fighting people? What would you think?" I had never thought about that question. This world has many interesting things, and fighting is one of them.
The innate male instinct to fight is unleashed in this world, which is a great temptation, especially when you know your attacks won't actually harm your opponent. "
You mean, you want me to give up that fun thing? Why? You should also like fighting, otherwise your level wouldn't be so high." "I'm not asking you to do anything or not, I just have a bad feeling." When Wange said this, she revealed a vulnerability I'd never seen before, which made my heart skip a beat.
I subconsciously reached out and ruffled her hair, smiling, "I don't play this game for fighting. Fighting is just a little fun. I won't constantly seek out battles. This game has many ways to have fun, most of which are much simpler than fighting. So don't worry, it's just a game anyway." Wange looked up at me and gently touched my face.
"Life is like a game." After saying this, she kissed me.
My mind went blank, and I didn't even have time to push her away. More importantly, the faint sweetness of jasmine on her tongue deeply attracted me.
It was a kiss filled with complex emotions. Kiss can often convey a lot of feelings, and now, the overwhelming message transmitted through the electronic signals of the virtual world was so real that I didn't know whether I should believe it.
Her little tongue that went into my mouth was completely different from Yingfeng's; Yingfeng rarely took the initiative like this. There was no flirting or teasing in Wange's kiss, only a deep and mysterious feeling that even she herself would be deeply immersed in.
After a long time, we gently separated. The transparent thread hanging from her crystal lips was connected to me. I looked at her and then reached out to wipe the corner of her mouth.
"You were still thinking of her when you kissed me." Wange let my hand trace her lips, staring silently at me.
"She's my girlfriend." I said this without avoiding her eyes.
"I wasn't trying to take anything from her..." "I understand." Wange shook her head, her chestnut hair silently sliding down her shoulder.
"You don't understand...we're not from the same world..." "What are you trying to say..." I asked softly.
"I'm sorry...I kissed you without permission..." The moment she turned to leave, I felt a strange mix of sorrow and excitement. I reached out and grabbed her shoulders, pulling her back, then lowered my head and kissed her.
This time, I took the initiative, my tongue swirling in her mouth, hoping a passionate kiss could offer her some strength in her grief. I didn't know why she was sad, or if she was truly sad as I imagined. All I wanted to do was kiss her.
Her cheeks flushed crimson, even the eyelashes on her closed eyes trembled slightly. I caught a glimpse of this scene, and a thought arose in my mind: Was this the first time someone had kissed her first? A long kiss, until finally she leaned against me.
This time, she pushed me away, panting.
"A kiss…is precious enough to me…I have no right to ask for anything else…" After leaving a warm and relieved smile, she logged out of the game.
Over the next few days, I finished building the house in the west of the city, and a rather wealthy guy bought it for four thousand gold coins. After deducting the cost of the building materials, I at least earned fifteen hundred gold coins.
These past few days, besides building the house, I've spent most of my time with Yingfeng, rarely seeing Wange, but every time I saw her, she was wearing equipment, I wondered why.
Over the weekend, while Little Bee and I were enjoying a peaceful afternoon nap on the lawn outside town, Zhang Long woke me up.
I usually get very grumpy when someone interrupts my sleep, but when I saw the look on Zhang Long's face, I swallowed the curse that almost escaped my lips.
He looked terrible, pale, covered in sweat, and with bloodshot eyes. I must say, the game details in [Shen Du] are truly impressive; everything imaginable is perfected.
"What's wrong...?" He pulled me to a secluded spot, his grip heavy, his breathing rapid.
"Greedy Wolf, I found something online..." he gasped, trembling.
"What is it?" "A cheat, plugin, hack, mod... call it whatever you want, I downloaded one..." I stared wide-eyed, speechless for a long time: "You... how did you find it? What's it for?" He was huddled on the ground, his eyes unfocused.
"I was just looking for some information, but by some twist of fate, I hacked into a website... and then... found this thing... that website doesn't have a lot of traffic, but it seems like several of its linked websites that prohibit guest registration have this thing for download..." "What exactly did you download!" I started to get irritated and tense from his neurotic behavior.
"It's a device upgrade package... it can decode the device's built-in security device... and change the neural simulation level to level zero..." "What do you mean?" Zhang Long shakily took out a cigarette and tried to light it, but his trembling hands prevented him from succeeding.
I struck a match and helped him.
He took two deep drags on his cigarette, and seemed to calm down a bit.
"After changing the neural simulation level to level zero... the intensity of sensory stimulation seems to reach complete realism..." "That means... 100% intensity of pain and pleasure?" I asked, frowning.
Zhang Long nodded: "If I'm not mistaken, that's it." I breathed a sigh of relief: "I thought it was something serious... So what? The realism has increased. Less fighting, more good food, isn't that good?" Zhang Long gave a pale, bitter smile: "Then what if you die in this world?" I was silent for a full minute.
"You mean... if you die here, you'll die outside too?" Zhang Long shook his head: "I... don't know..." I suddenly realized something.
"You fucking used it!" He nodded.
"Are you out of your mind! Modifying equipment like this, are you crazy?!" I yelled at him angrily.
"I...I don't know what will happen...but...I just can't help it..." I spun around in anger for a while, finally pulling him up from the ground.
"Delete the account!! Delete it right now!! I'll help you start a new one! You hear me?!" Zhang Long pushed away my hand that was grabbing his clothes: "...If I delete the character I'm using now, I don't know if it will be considered suicide..." "Then...then stop playing!!" I shouted, "Why are you doing this?!" Zhang Long looked at me with a look I didn't recognize: "Because...it's exciting..." "What?" I couldn't believe my ears.
"Because it's really exciting." Zhang Long took a deep drag on his cigarette. "After modifying the machine and logging back in, the whole world felt different... I felt... like I was truly living in this place... It was scary, but mostly exciting..." I didn't know what to say to him. After a long silence, I patted his shoulder.
"Stop fighting, promise me." Zhang Long laughed: "I don't want to die... even if you tied me up and dragged me to a fight, I wouldn't go." I laughed, then suddenly drew my sword and pointed it at his neck. Zhang Long froze, his face contorted in shock.
"You should really look in the mirror and see what kind of expression you have." I laughed and sheathed my weapon.
"You son of a bitch!" Zhang Long sighed in relief, cursing fiercely, then rubbed his face and walked away.
That night, I spent seven or eight hours searching online for information about that upgrade pack, and then I discovered that it seemed some people were actually using it. The [Shen Du] company's message was very clear: any similar modifications to the machine were illegal, and the person involved was responsible for any accidents, including death.
According to some people, when the neurorealism level is zero, any damage exceeding one's tolerance will lead to the player's death. Occasionally, there are cases where the player survives but suffers severe brain damage, becoming a vegetable.
In short, if you die in the game, it's impossible to be unharmed in reality.
I somewhat understood Zhang Long… In fact, I realized it was indeed a very exciting thing. I originally wanted to continue persuading Zhang Long, but in reality, I lay in bed for a full two hours before dispelling the idea of modifying the machine myself, and then unknowingly fell asleep. "
Let's get married." I almost spat out a mouthful of red wine and quickly wiped it with a napkin.
"Don't joke around, Miss." Today is my birthday. I don't usually celebrate birthdays, but Little Bee insisted on going out for a nice meal.
Then, halfway through the meal, she pulled this stunt on me.
"Who's joking with you! Big brother, we've been dating for six years, I'm already twenty-four! In a few more years, I'll be... an old woman!" Little Bee said, chewing on her steak.
I did the math, and it really was true. I just didn't expect that she would be the one to propose first.
"Let's wait a bit longer. We'll get married after I pay back all the money I owe my mom, okay?" "This isn't about getting you into some big business! It's just a wedding, what does money have to do with it! I don't lack money, I only lack a person! Next Monday is a good day, let's go get our marriage certificate!" I instinctively shuddered and leaned closer, whispering, "Could it be... you're pregnant?" Little Bee slapped me on the head: "No way! Don't talk nonsense!" This girl's family is very wealthy. Her dad and brother spoil her rotten, so she's a bit spoiled. It's already quite an achievement to have raised a queen-like figure.
My parents both like her, thanks to her outstanding acting skills. When she came to my house, she was so well-behaved, I almost didn't recognize her.
My plan is actually very simple: I think I'm still young and want to make the most of my time. It's not that I don't like her; on the contrary, I really don't think there's a more reliable girl than her. But marriage is a different matter, especially now that my career is just starting out, and I feel like I can't spare the energy—although I have no problem with energy when playing games, haha.
That day, after getting home from work and logging into the game, I was standing in my room, a little bored, thinking about what to do that day, when suddenly a strange voice came from behind me.
"You are Tanlang." This cold voice startled me, and I immediately turned around.
A man in an ordinary leather jacket was sitting upside down in my chair, his hands on the back of the chair. His eyes were very bright, and I could see clearly even in the dark. There was a long black shadow at his waist; it must be a sword.
"Who are you?" I said in a very unfriendly tone, my hand also on the hilt of the sword at my waist. This guy just casually walked into my house; he's definitely not a good person—a good person would be more polite.
He pushed back his chair and stood up: "You don't need to know that. I just want to make a deal with you." "I've already sold that house." The man paused slightly. "No, it's something else." As he approached me, I saw a scar on his face, a scar that made me unconsciously draw my sword.
The man ignored my action and walked past me to the bedroom door, pushing open the door to the living room.
"Zhang Long!" Two other unfamiliar men were sitting in the living room, and a dagger was pressed against Zhang Long's neck. His mouth was gagged, and his eyes were filled with fear as he looked at me.
Everyone knows that exiting combat will forcibly kill your character... Fear is contagious; when I saw Zhang Long's eyes, my entire body was gripped by that abhorrent emotion. "
Don't kill him!! He's modified the equipment, people will really die!!!" I screamed and rushed forward, trying to do something.
The man stopped me: "Of course we know, otherwise we wouldn't be stupid enough to take him hostage." "You, you, you want whatever you want!! I, I have six thousand gold coins here! You can have them all!! Let him go!!" I stammered incoherently.
The man gently placed his hand on my shoulder: "Don't get agitated, sit down." I trembled as I sat down on the sofa, then unconsciously took the glass of water he offered. I greedily drank the entire glass, finally regaining my ability to think.
The man sat down in front of me, sizing me up: "What level are you?" My lips moved, about to answer, but he raised his hand to stop me. Then he turned his head and gestured to the other side.
Before I could react, I saw Zhang Long's finger be severed.
He was forcefully pressed into his seat by the man next to him, his whole body convulsing, a muffled and miserable scream escaping his gagged throat. Blood flowing from the severed finger stained a large area of the floor.
"Level zero neural simulation, 100% pain perception. You should understand what that means. From now on, I will only ask you one question. Any hesitation or obvious lies will only cause your friend more pain. Do you understand?" An extreme anger burned within me, the humiliation of being trampled underfoot. But this feeling was swallowed up by immense fear in a fraction of a second, and I nodded.
"Your combat level." "Probably F..." "Do you have any combat skills?" "You have a spell that can transfer energy..." "Do you have a girlfriend?" I glanced at Zhang Long, then realized this was probably just a check of the information we'd provided. Hiding Yingfeng's existence was impossible... but Yingfeng hadn't modified her equipment, and her level was low, so even if she were killed, it wouldn't matter.
"Yes," I replied.
The man nodded.
"Do you know a female warrior named Elegy?" "Yes." "Where does she live?" "A cabin by the stream." "What's your relationship like?" "It's alright." The man showed a satisfied expression, but the anger burning within me intensified. This feeling of being manipulated like a toy made my fingers tremble.
Just as I was slowly being consumed by my emotions and began to lose control, the man suddenly threw a short knife and a purse in front of me.
"These two things are for you. Do us a favor, and you'll get a high-level weapon, 50,000 gold coins, and your friend's life." I had a terrible premonition: "What do you want me to do?" "I want you to kill that woman." I felt an urge to laugh at them: "Why don't you do it yourselves?" "If she wants to run, the few of us can't stop her. We finally found her hiding place; it would be a shame to let her get away." The man said with a slight smile.
"I...can't do it..." The man's expression didn't change at all: "Then your friend will be saying goodbye forever." "This is just a fucking game! Don't you understand! Why drag people into this!" I roared uncontrollably.
The man actually laughed. He stood up, walked to Zhang Long's side, and looked into Zhang Long's bloodshot eyes.
"You're really naive. Some people won't care about the means they use to achieve their goals, whether it's outside or here." He slowly inserted his fingers into the wound on Zhang Long's hand, the blood and broken bones making a nauseating squeaking sound. Zhang Long struggled violently, his voice becoming hoarse.
"We can do many things to get what we want, because we're bad people, it's that simple." His voice was like a squeaking wire scraping against a tombstone, along with Zhang Long's muffled groans and the sound of flesh and blood being squeezed together, reaching my ears. I felt numb all over, my hands and feet were ice-cold.
"I don't want to waste any more time, will you do it or not?" His fingers, dripping with Zhang Long's blood, walked up to me, looking down at me.
"One last question...Did Elegy...modify her equipment?" The man shook his head. "That woman has a nervous breakdown. We just want her current character to disappear from this world. Don't worry, she'll be fine in reality." I reached for the short knife.
The energy surging from my body in the darkness made me very conspicuous; the 50% energy acceleration was already making it difficult for me to breathe.
The man and his men caught up from behind, their bursts of energy creating considerable air currents.
By the time I saw the stream and the hut, those guys were already very close. They raised their hands and fired more than ten energy blasts at me, but I quickly descended to the ground, causing all their attacks to miss.
However, this greatly reduced my speed, and they reached me almost instantly. The leader grinned maliciously and slashed at me with his sword.
The dagger they gave me was indeed a high-level weapon, absorbing energy at a rate more than 30% faster than my original weapon. I blocked two of his sword strikes with the dagger, then heard a familiar voice.
"Looks like you don't mind having more and more trouble around you..." Wange was already standing behind me.
The man and his subordinates showed very fierce expressions when they saw Wange, but none of them made any rash moves.
Wange glanced at them, then drew her sword and began to increase her energy.
I'm sorry... With that thought in mind, the dagger in my hand, imbued with energy, pierced her back.
A large spurt of blood splattered onto my face.
Wange staggered a step, then knelt on the ground, looking up at me. Her eyes were filled with a mixture of shock, confusion, sadness, despair, desolation, anger... countless emotions that I couldn't distinguish one by one.
I gritted my teeth and turned my head away , refusing to look at her .
"Attack!!" the man roared at the men behind him. " Aaaaaaahh ... I want to move, but my hands and feet won't obey my commands at all.
