"Ah..."
I yawned and sat up in bed, realizing it was almost dark outside. I was a little hungry, so I got out of bed and decided to go to the tavern for a good meal. Although the tavern was simple, the landlady was an excellent cook. Thinking this, I left my room.
Strangely, there were an unusually large number of people today. Yesterday, the inn had hardly any guests, but today it seemed to be full. After finally squeezing out of the inn, I saw a few people still queuing outside, peering inside, seemingly not believing the sign that the rooms were full. This town didn't have many people to begin with, so it was strange to suddenly have so many more. What was even stranger was that many of them were carrying weapons. Had some rare monster appeared nearby? Thinking about this, I felt a surge of excitement. Perfect, I could get some materials to replace my dual swords, but I needed to fill my stomach first.
As I approached the tavern, I spotted several shadowy figures lurking around a corner in the distance. Curiosity compelled me to investigate, so I crept closer. Several young men were standing with their backs to me, seemingly planning a robbery. They hadn't noticed me even at this distance, suggesting their weapons were merely decorative… I stopped to see what was going on.
"What are you doing?"
a young woman asked. Her long ears indicated she wasn't human, but the moon was obscured by clouds, making it impossible to determine if she was a night demon or an elf.
"Hmph… the competition is about to begin… I thought we'd only bet a little and watch the fun, but we've stumbled upon a stray target…"
The leader seemed to be speaking, as he moved closer to the woman. She drew a dagger from her waist and swung it wildly. The leader was startled and stumbled back. I initially intended to help, but seeing the woman draw her weapon, I hesitated. My master always taught me not to interfere in other people's battles. The others around me jeered and laughed.
"The boss's stunned!"
"Boss, if you won't go, I will!"
The moment the leader drew his knife from his waist, accompanied by a flash of light and a "bang," the woman's dagger was knocked to the ground. The leader then rushed behind her and grabbed her. Before she could even react, she was disarmed. I seemed to have underestimated these guys' abilities; it seems this leader is quite capable.
"Let me go! Help!"
The woman's screams interrupted my thoughts. When I came to my senses, I saw that the leader had one hand on the woman's breast, kneading it, while his other hand, which I didn't know had switched to, held a dagger against her face, his tongue licking her cheek as he spoke.

Several of his men watched enviously as their boss's hand moved from her breasts down to between her legs. I was a little stunned by what I saw. I'd been cultivating in the mountains with my master all this time, and aside from the occasional auntie who went to the mountains to do business, I rarely came into contact with women, let alone young girls. My sudden voice seemed to startle them. Several people turned around and drew their weapons. The leader was also startled, but seeing that he had the upper hand, he stuffed his hand directly into the woman's collar and continued to grope her. The thug was still staring blankly at where I'd been, then suddenly jolted when he realized I was gone, his eyes darting downwards to look for me. But my fist had already made intimate contact with his chin. His eyes, which had just been looking down, instantly snapped back up. Having just come down the mountain, I didn't want to be dragged back up, so I decided to teach them a lesson with my fists. It all happened so fast that before the other thugs could even see what was going on, one of them was already flying through the air, his teeth flying everywhere, making it look like they were watching fireworks.
"Ugh!"
A punch landed on another guy's stomach, and even with just a fraction of the force, tears were already streaming down his face. The leader then realized he'd run into a tough opponent and quickly shouted.
"Stop, sir! We were blind to your worth! You can have this first, you can have it first!"
I stopped what I was doing, dusted myself off, and said.
"What do you mean, 'I can have it first'? This lady is mine."
After leaving the mountains, I learned that slaves existed in the world, and this woman must be one of the unfortunate ones. I had just heard him say that this was unclaimed merchandise, so I decided to give him a piece of my mind.
Ironically, I was being very distant by calling her "this lady," but the leader knew he couldn't beat me, so he forced a smile and said, "Sorry, sorry, we didn't know this was your merchandise. We apologize for disturbing you."
My master told me to avoid trouble and not to come home if I messed up; he wanted a peaceful old age... so I just casually agreed.
"Oh."
The leader was taken aback, not expecting me to agree so readily. He then said "Okay, okay" and urged his men to run. The woman stood there stunned for a while before suddenly calling out to me.
"How could they get away! Arrest them and take them to the police station!"
She didn't even say thank you, so rude! I ignored her and turned to walk towards the tavern. I hadn't eaten yet, and I was already using up my energy. Seeing that I didn't intend to go directly to the tavern, she followed closely behind. After a few steps, she spoke again.
"Are you also here for the Hunting Tournament?"
"Are there really rare bosses appearing around here for the Hunting Tournament?"
Hearing my question, she paused for a moment, then asked.
"You don't know? Then what are you doing in Katheran?"
"I was passing through and saw that it was quiet and peaceful, so I stayed here for a few more days. I just came down from the mountains not long ago, so I don't know much. What's this Hunting Tournament you mentioned?"
On the way, she gave me a brief introduction to the Hunting Tournament, leaving me bewildered.
"I didn't expect the outside world to be even more savage than inside the mountains..."
She seemed amused by my words.
"You keep saying you're from the mountains, which mountain are you from?"
"My master seemed to have mentioned something about a mountain called Kalo something, but I can't remember."
The woman paused for a moment and shook her head slightly. Our rhythm was that I'd finish speaking and she'd pause, then she'd finish speaking and I'd pause…
She probably thought I didn't want to answer, so she didn't continue. When we were almost at the tavern, she suddenly grabbed me and said,
"Can I ask you a favor?"
"What is it?"
"Take me to the hunting competition!"
"Ah!"
