In the hotel at the Capital Airport, my sister watched the night fall: the night sky was filled with beautiful stars. She looked up at the beautiful night sky, wondering when she would see it again on this land. The roar of airplanes taking off filled her ears; though it should have been faint, it was exceptionally clear. Tomorrow, she too would board a plane, flying towards an unknown future. A restless, uneasy feeling stirred within her. It was getting late. Looking at the time, she thought, "Why isn't he here yet? He said he would spend this special night with me. In all of China, only one person has come to see me off, and he still hasn't arrived." A wave of unbearable sorrow washed over her, and tears welled in her eyes. No, she couldn't cry. She was strong; she wouldn't shed tears. This was the path she had chosen; she couldn't be weak. "Ding-dong, ding-dong," the same sound as her sister's doorbell rang outside. Startled, she wiped away tears, glanced in the mirror—nothing amiss—and ran to open the door. There he was, standing there. He was dressed casually, a wide smile on his face, a small music box in his left hand—the one making the ding-dong sound—and a large bouquet of roses in his right. He looked a little comical. Then, seeing the large toy slung across his back, she finally broke down in laughter, clutching her stomach. "Haha, haha…" He looked at her helplessly.
