【The Tale of the Chaste Woman】(Complete)

The Tale of the Chaste and Virtuous:
Chapter One - A Scholar's Makeup Change to Seek Friends; A Charming Scholar's Eyes on a Hero
. Capable of both soaring high and crouching low, he possesses unparalleled elegance. Why need women everywhere? They can all be like Sima. The dashing young men of the Five Mausoleums display
their charm, captivating beauties. In the heat of passion, there is bitterness, jealousy, and nausea. Generosity is hard to reconcile. Pity those who share the same taste
. Lightly adding to the burden, jealousy and resentment. The more they express their true nature, the more they reveal their lack of ambition. Who is the scholar of the wind and demons, who wins love with his infatuation? He delights in resolving difficulties, a
feat
worthy of praise for ten thousand years .
This poem tells of a strange event in the dynasty. Beginning with love, ending with love complete. Laughing, adding color to the south wind. Unlike those who have
no end, those who are complete don't necessarily have a happy ending.
It is said that in Jiangdu County, Yangzhou Prefecture, there was a scholar named Zhao Wangsun, courtesy name Zijian, fifteen years old. She had a beautiful face and long,
bright eyes. Her hair was thick and black, reaching her shoulders. Her face was as white as powder, her lips as white as pearls, and her skin fair and radiant. She possessed a
dignified and imposing presence. Her clothes were elegant and tasteful. Her appearance was so captivating that she could be compared to a fairy. People who saw her were utterly mesmerized. Zhao was
a scholar who loved reading and learning. He was well-versed in the Three Tombs and Five Classics, the works of various philosophers, and even Buddhist scriptures. He devoted himself to the pursuit of fame and fortune, and rarely
spoke to anyone. Moreover, being from a prestigious family, no one dared to slight him. Even when he had two or three friends or fellow members of the literary society, they would occasionally tease him with harsh words. He
would either firmly refuse or simply ignore them. His aloof demeanor made it seem as if he didn't want anyone to hear him. Although people admired her appearance, it was like a heavenly
peach blossom or a red apricot blossom by the sun—mere wishful thinking. Zhao knew he was being insulted by her beauty and kept his brilliance hidden. He never socialized with anyone.
Some, perhaps seeking favors, came to pay their respects. They intended to wait for Zhao Sheng to return the visit before making their move. However, Zhao Sheng knew their intentions beforehand. Whenever
someone came to pay their respects, after bowing, he would say, "My father strictly forbids me from leaving without orders. Your esteemed presence has prevented me from returning your visit. I humbly
beg for your understanding. Even a formal invitation is too much for me. I respectfully accept your esteemed instruction." He
would say this to everyone who came, leaving them with a cold, indifferent response. After several such instances, seeing his unwillingness to return the visits, people had no choice
but to give up.
He also disliked his classmate Dong Sheng, who was from Shui Zhi Fan, and often came to make fun of him. He thought to himself, "If I don't find a good teacher, how
can I avoid being misled by scoundrels? I recently heard of a Qin Chunyuan, also known as Qin Jizong of Huanggang, a renowned scholar of rites and a close relative of the Salt Commissioner. He is currently in
Xiaguan, lecturing on the classics. I should tell my father about this, and we can go there to study. Firstly, I can become well-versed in the classics, and secondly, I can avoid the scorn
of scoundrels. I've made up my mind. The next day, I told my father."
Upon hearing this, his father's expression hardened, and he said, "Studying is your business, teaching your son is my business. Now that you've found a good teacher, you can't let this opportunity pass.
You prepare the books, and I'll prepare the gifts and letters. Tomorrow morning, we'll go together to pay our respects.
When we meet Mr. Qin, we'll perform the disciple's rites." The conversation was well-organized, calm, and elegant. Qin Chunyuan greatly appreciated him and ordered him to strike a gong to summon everyone
to meet him. He was put to live in the east room and forbidden to leave without permission. It turned out that Qin Chunyuan wanted to take on disciples and establish connections in the south,
but fearing that scoundrels would cause trouble, he asked the Salt Commissioner to strictly prohibit entry. Only those who were qualified were allowed to enter. Although some may wish to enter the palace, they must be allowed
a glimpse during an audience at the post station. Only then are they brought within the palace walls. Otherwise, they are directly refused entry. Even after being brought within, to prevent disruption of the rules,
each is housed in a separate room, only to be seen during lectures. A simple bow suffices for communication. No private contact is permitted outside this. This is to prevent problems before
they arise. Hence, this warning is given upon first meeting. Zhao Sheng received the order and withdrew to the east room. It was very clean and pleasing to the eye. He privately comforted himself, saying, "Now I can
avoid my lewd friends."
The next day, at the literary gathering, he was highly praised by his teacher, Qin. His friends, seeing his exceptional talent, all coveted him. However, the teacher's rules
were very strict. Zhao Sheng, being upright and honest, even if he harbored evil intentions, they were merely like spit. In the third month of Jianye, not a single word of illicit contact was uttered.
He greatly understood his chosen path. Occasionally, during a moment of study and reflection... Facing the bright window and clean table, poetic inspiration surged, and I hastily penned a poem to commemorate the event.
The poem reads:
"The physical body is inherently empty; how can one truly grasp the fierce winds of the sea of karma?
Who escapes the great wheel to reach the other shore? One who withdraws is the one who turns the wheel."
Having finished writing, I took a small square of rice. I copied the original poem in running script and placed it to my right.
One day, the Transport Commissioner, acting on behalf of the Salt Bureau, issued the seasonal examination notices. Master Qin, wanting to select two or three students, gathered them by striking the clapper. He spoke to
them, instructing them to prepare gifts and joint signatures. Each student was to submit two essays, to be presented the next morning.
The following day, the students, accompanied by servants, traveled together. On the way, they suddenly saw yellow umbrellas fluttering, silver banners leading the way, clearing
the way with flags, and a large retinue—a truly magnificent sight. Upon closer inspection, the banner bore the three characters "Hanlin Academy." Zhao Sheng thought to himself
, "
This is enough reading. My heart is moved by what I desire." He stepped forward to look. There was a sedan chair.
The scholar sitting inside was no more than twenty years old. He wore a black gauze hat, pink-soled boots, a blue robe, and a silver belt. His face was like jade, and his spirit like autumn water.
He was staring intently out the window when he suddenly saw Zhao Sheng stand out. His handsome appearance and dignified bearing were dazzling. His soul had already flown away with him.
He thought to himself, "
What kind of old woman gave birth to such a beautiful child? This infatuation is harmful." He stared intently at him. Zhao Sheng saw that the man in the sedan chair was staring intently at him and
blushed. He retreated to the back. The scholar was trembling with excitement and didn't know what to do. The sedan chair then slowly drove away.
It turned out that this scholar was the manager of the brothel, the leader of the entertainment industry. His favorite woman was Nan. He was from Fujian.
His surname was Feng, his given name was Xiang, and his courtesy name was Motian. He observed Zhao Sheng for a long while, then conceived a plan. He summoned a capable steward named Feng
Cheng
and secretly instructed him: "Just now, near the Sun family pawnshop, I encountered some gentlemen. One of them seemed familiar, but I
couldn't quite place him. I didn't get out of my sedan chair to meet him, and I feel quite apologetic. You can find out the name of the gentleman who is staying there
and report back to me. If you recognize him, you should pay him a visit, but you must not reveal the secret. Otherwise, it will cause more trouble."
Feng Cheng obeyed the order and dared not delay. He went to the Sun family pawnshop and asked everyone he met, but no one recognized him. He happened to ask
an old man and said, "He is Qin Chunyuan from Huanggang. He lectures on scriptures at the Qionghua Temple in Songcheng, Salt Commissioner's office. Those are all his
students. I asked him where he went today, and he said he went to see the Transport Commissioner, but I don't know what it's about." Steward Feng thanked
the old man
and went straight to the Transport Commissioner's office, but he didn't come any closer. The yamen was silent. He said to himself, "Since we are acquaintances of the Salt Commissioner, please allow me to stay at
the inn."
He strode into the inn and indeed saw a gentleman, about forty years old, leading a group of students. The teacher and students were seated
on the veranda. He was used to serving officials and was quite adept at this. He went up to the steward's group and offered his greetings
. Then, pretending to be an official from the yamen, he asked, "What does your master want to see my master about? And why are you here with so many other gentlemen
?"
The steward was from Huguang and was an honest man. He didn't realize that the steward was seeking favors, so he said, "My master is
an acquaintance of the Salt Commissioner. Today, the Commissioner has entrusted your master to take the junior examination and bring some young gentlemen to become your master's disciples. He hopes you will be pleased."
"That means..."
Butler Feng asked again, "Do you have any name cards?" The butler replied, "Of course we do. Take a look." He then handed them to
Feng Cheng. Feng Cheng took them and opened them. One was a name card from the Nian family, belonging to Qin Zheng. The other was a handwritten
book with six names written on it. He asked about each one. When he reached the sixth name, it was Zhao Wangsun. He noted the name and asked for the courtesy name.
Feng Cheng observed Zhao Wangsun's demeanor and bearing. He sighed, "What kind of acquaintance is this? It's just a smokescreen. This old ailment has flared up again." He
then exclaimed in surprise, "Master, you're back! I'll go and get back to you. Then you can make arrangements to meet. Steward Qin is an honest
man;
I'll ask him to come back again." Taking advantage of this, Feng Cheng slipped away and returned.
Meanwhile, the Hanlin scholar returned to the boat, his heart still heavy with worry. He didn't know where Feng Cheng was, where he lived,
or what his name was. He was restless and uneasy, wondering if Feng Cheng could find him.
As he stepped outside the cabin, he suddenly saw Feng Cheng approaching, his face beaming with joy. He felt as if Feng Cheng had found him. The Hanlin scholar
quickly called him into the cabin and asked, "Have you found him?"
Feng Cheng replied, "I've been searching all the way." He then recounted his journey.
The scholar asked, "Is there a man with disheveled hair among them?"
Feng Cheng replied, "Of course he is. Just now, someone said that the man named Zhao Wangsun was him. I asked his courtesy name, and it was Zi Jian
."
Upon hearing this, the scholar felt as if he had just won the third-highest rank in the imperial examinations. He dismissed Feng Cheng from the granary. He pondered,
"I really can't let him go. How can I devise a plan to settle this score with him and quell this burning desire? If I
let him go right now, it will be something I can never forget." He thought and thought, and suddenly realized something. He nodded and said, "I've got it! I've got it!
All the gentlemen in my household are either my classmates or acquaintances. Even if we meet, it's not a pleasant surprise. I've come all this way, but I didn't expect to run into this
smug enemy. I'll just use my friend-seeking mentality as a means to woo a woman. What's wrong with that?"
With his plan in mind, he called to Feng Cheng to quickly find another woman. Feng Cheng said, "Sir, it's better to be on the boat."
The scholar replied, "Guanglin Spring Scenery is renowned throughout the land, a place rarely visited. It's not far from here.
After enjoying the scenery, I'll visit a friend."
Feng Cheng accepted the order and went to find a garden in the yamen. The head steward, hearing that a scholar was staying there, flattered him greatly, repeatedly
saying, "We have a room ready." The scholar arrived at his lodging, had his servant present him with a visiting card, settled his luggage, and instructed the steward to prepare a gift and a formal gift. He also wrote a travel document and a visiting card, concealing his true name. He met
Nie on the way , determined to have something to do with him, and changed his name to Tu Bi, with the courtesy name Yu Zhi. After finishing writing, he laughed to himself, "Why give up being a Hanlin scholar? From now on, I'll seek pleasure!" The next morning, he summoned his attendants, Feng Defang and Feng Deyun, and instructed them, "I'm going to Qionghua Temple to listen to a lecture by Master Qin. If I reveal my true name, there will be many inconveniences. I'll just say I'm here to study diligently. That way, he can accept me at the gate. I've changed my name to Tu Bi, courtesy name Yuzhi. Take the two of you with me to serve me. If anything goes wrong there, it won't be good. Tell them not to reveal their true identities, and to praise me as 'Master,' not 'Lord.'" The two attendants bowed and replied, "Understood." He also instructed the other servants and family members not to follow, but to stay at the residence. After giving these instructions, he changed his appearance into that of a scholar. Once everything was arranged, he found someone to carry his luggage and headed straight for Qionghua Temple. He presented his visiting card and gifts. He said, "This junior admires you, Master, as a member of the Huanggang branch of the lineage. I deeply respect you and have come to pay my respects as a disciple. I hope you will accept me as a student and not refuse my request." Master Qin, seeing his composed speech, elegant demeanor, and free-spirited nature, knew he was no ordinary person. He quickly said, "I am a humble man from Chu, unworthy of my status. I teach in the south, solely for the purpose of education. I have long been a student of your teachings, and I am fortunate that you have not rejected me. I only fear that I have misunderstood your purpose and have been misunderstood." The scholar again declined, then added, "I am from afar. Since you have not rejected me and have taken me into your service, I would also like to meet with my friends. I hope you will be able to receive me at your lectures the following day." Qin Chunyuan said, "That is appropriate." He ordered his servant to strike the clapper to gather everyone for the meeting. They met each person from oldest to youngest. This Zhao student, dressed in white and red, seemed particularly charming. Zhao student, however, gazed intently at the scholar, seeing his handsome and dashing appearance, clearly extraordinary. Their eyes met, and though they had only met once, their spirits seemed to have been connected for a thousand years. After the greetings were exchanged, the friends dispersed. Qin Chunyuan asked, "Are there any empty rooms over there?" The young attendant replied, " All the rooms are occupied. Only the small garden on the east side still has some flowers and trees. The rooms need some repairs before they are ready to live in." The scholar said, "That's not difficult. I'll repair them myself." He asked the abbot to calculate how much silver was needed. The abbot said, "For basic repairs, five or seven taels will be enough. For a proper finish, it will cost fifteen or sixteen taels." The scholar said, "Studying here requires a neat and tidy environment." He then asked Defang to fetch a box, exchanged fifteen taels of silver, and gave it to the abbot, saying, "It must be repaired perfectly. It must be completed by the due date." Mr. Qin said to the scholar, "Your room hasn't been repaired yet. I have a room opposite, which is used for guests . You can stay there for a while. You can move in after the repairs are finished." The scholar thanked him deeply again. From then on, he lived in the room opposite . That night, all was quiet. The four walls were silent. He sat alone with a solitary lamp. The two boys were already dozing beside him. He recalled Zhao Sheng's gaze during the day , so full of affection. He composed a poem, "Like a Dream," to commemorate the event. " Playing in the Central Plains misleads people. A fairy with ice-like skin and jade-like beauty. One glance and she recognized a hero. Her heart was bound to a three-lifetime love affair. She was infatuated and intoxicated. When will she be able to meet him? " After finishing the poem, he was filled with excitement. He looked back and saw the two boys sleeping soundly. He had already slept with De Fang. Seeing him lying there asleep, he nudged him awake with both hands. De Fang woke up with a start and said, "What do you need, sir?" Hanlin said, "At this time, I am in a good mood and want you to play. But I am tired and too lazy to move. Do whatever you want, just find a way to make me happy." De Fang said, "Sir, take off your clothes and let me do it. I will make you happy." Hanlin took off his clothes and got into bed. De Fang put his head under the covers. Touching that iron-like thing, he took it in his mouth and began to thrust. The thrusting made Hanlin's whole body itch and numb unbearably. He cried out, "My darling, come on up! It's killing me with itchiness!" Defang took off his clothes, straddled Hanlin, and inserted his penis into his anus. He pressed his hands on the mat, moving up and down, thrusting and pulling. Hanlin couldn't resist and tried to meet him from below. Defang waited for Hanlin to be quick, but he slowed down. Hanlin wanted to be slow, but he was quick. Hanlin couldn't do anything about it. He straddled him and thrust forcefully. Defang was extremely satisfied and cried out, " Husband, be rougher! It doesn't hurt, it doesn't itch, it doesn't feel sore, it doesn't feel numb. I don't know what to do. It's so uncomfortable!"

"It's urgent."
Hanlin knew he was anxious. He deliberately stopped moving. Defang pleaded, "My dear husband, how can you kill me? Do it hard
!"
Hanlin, hearing her sweet talk, couldn't hold back anymore. He thrust hard, more than a thousand times. His buttocks
were gushing out like pearls, covering his entire body. Defang arched her buttocks in response. Hanlin couldn't hold back and ejaculated.
The two embraced and fell asleep.
Chapter Two: Zhao Zi's Social Skills Lead to a Loss; Tu Sheng's Ambition Leads to More Desires.
Not to mention Hanlin, fearing that Mr. Qin would see through his ruse, kept his true intentions hidden. Now, let's talk about Zhao Sheng returning to his room. He thought to himself, "
Where do I think I met this person? He looks so familiar, and when we met, we were so affectionate." Seeing his refined and elegant demeanor, truly
a man of great bearing, though there were over forty people in the same academy, none could match him. His character and conduct were such, his talent must surely
be good as well. But I wonder where the teacher has assigned him to sit. Then I thought, judging by appearances, I've lost Ziyu; I've gained nothing from his
inner falsehood. Many are outwardly impressive, but I'll know the truth when I write this. I wanted to discard it, but I couldn't. Forcing myself to write history,
I found myself thinking of Tu Sheng again.
Zhao Sheng said, "It's strange, he's not a relative, why do I keep thinking about him?" So he wrote a poem, "Remembering Wang Sun,"
to mock himself: "
For no reason I care at first sight, why do I care so sincerely?
I ask myself, this affection is like an old spirit from the Stone of Three Lifetimes. "
After writing it, he put it in his box, noting that he met Brother Tu on a certain day, unable to let go of him, and when he couldn't understand it, he wrote this to record the event.
The next day, Zhang, a scholar of the Hanlin Academy, eager to display his talent, wrote thousands of poems in a flash, without a second thought. In less than half
a day, he had finished five poems and submitted them to Mr. Qin. Mr. Qin, having only completed three, paused to read them, impressed by their speed.
He found the writing loose and disjointed, resembling early Han dynasty prose, yet the themes and conclusions, the reasoning and diction, were entirely original and untouched by anyone else. Mr. Qin
exclaimed, "A prodigy! A prodigy! Such a masterpiece written so effortlessly, it seems his talent is beyond compare. It's as if he had a preordained talent, a gift he
has found.
Such talent is rare since the Qin and Han dynasties. He will surely rise to the highest ranks of the imperial court. How fortunate I am to have such a friend!" The scholar remained humble
.
Hearing the master's astonishment, the students all stepped forward to ask what was wrong. Mr. Qin said, "You can copy other people's writings
, but you can't create your own. If you can't copy his, then you can look at his work first."
"Look at these illogical writings, yet they try to write essays!" some said. "Master, you're
amazed by how fast he writes. Some who read stale and outdated writings say he has no literary flair." Others said, "He memorized it."
Then someone chimed in, "I saw it in a certain collection, it was written by a certain famous person." Still others said it was written by the newly appointed top scholar,
Hua Fengxiang. Some said, "Because he's a new copyist, the teacher flatters him." Others said, "His writing is
unique." Opinions varied. But since the teacher praised it, they dared not disagree. They all praised it and returned the compliment to
the teacher.
Only Zhao Sheng read it without uttering a word. He thought to himself, "This writing seems like something from the Imperial Academy; why am I behaving like
a disciple here?" Then he thought, "There are many talented people in the world who haven't had their chance; he's not alone. But we've met such a talented person, and we're
classmates—truly beneficial friends. We should learn from him." After finishing their writing, they all returned to their rooms.
The scholar, bored, composed a poem to express his feelings and commemorate the event: "Several times I've thought of the prince in the wind, tears frequently wetting my handkerchief. When we meet ,
I dare not express my feelings, secretly calling his name behind his back. The matter is left to this poem. I wish to send it to you, my bones turned to dust, my heart dead from the wind and dew. " The "
wind" refers to his surname, and "prince" directly refers to Zhao Sheng. He inscribed this in a secret place. This should be recorded as a testament to his favor for the future.
He stayed at the temple for half a month, only discussing literature and literature, and meeting with Zhao Sheng; he spoke no other words with him. Fearing that Lord Qin might see through
his act, he maintained a respectful demeanor towards Zhao Sheng. Lord Qin respected him even more. As the students spent more time together, they gradually became immersed
in the gentle and harmonious atmosphere of the Hanlin Academy.
One day, the abbot announced that the garden was completed and that it was an auspicious day, inviting the gentleman to move in. Mr. Qin went with him to
the garden, where the autumn scenery was truly beautiful. He composed a poem, "Man Ting Fang," to commemorate the scene:
"Osmanthus blossoms vie in fragrance, maple leaves startle with red. Creating a scene of autumn beauty.
Orchids and chrysanthemums bloom, and white clouds add to the scene.
White cries echo in the sky, telling of countless partings and reunions across the world.
Withered willows by the pond, cicadas chirping in pairs.
Although the windows are bright and the tables clean, the beams carved and painted, one cannot understand the sorrow of autumn in this secluded place."
The madman said, "Hibiscus is old. In her youth, I fear the misty haze would only bring sorrow."
Mr. Qin looked and said, "This garden was once desolate, but now, after renovation, it looks completely different. The land is indeed blessed, and the people are kind
. It's a good place to rest and recuperate."
The scholar thanked him, "I dare not. The relocation is complete. Please sit down, sir." Defang hurriedly went to prepare tea.
Just as they sat down, their classmates and friends arrived one after another. They came to see the garden and to see their friends. After exchanging greetings, there was little tea,
so they all dispersed. Only Zhao Sheng was not present. The scholar was greatly disappointed and had no choice but to close the door and sit quietly.
Two servants stood by, and suddenly sighed. Deyun said, "Sir, you are a very cheerful person. Why come here to seek unhappiness?"
The scholar said, "How could you know what's on my mind?" Defang
said, "I do sense what's on your mind, sir. Is it because of Zhao Sheng?" Then he stopped talking.
The scholar asked, "Zhao what?"
Defang blushed and dared not say another word. Hanlin thought to himself, "The two families are separated by great distances, and communication is impossible. We must have someone
to deliver letters and notes, and show some courtesy, so that we can make things happen." He then asked Defang, "Since you know I am Minister Zhao, do you know
how Minister Zhao is doing these days?"
Defang replied, "I know he is doing well."
Hanlin asked, "How do you know?"
Defang said, "Minister Zhao also has a young servant boy, who is quite handsome and literate, named Xiaoyan. We've
been working together in the hall these past few days, and that's how I know him." He added, "Minister Zhao once praised you, saying you are both talented and virtuous."
Upon hearing this, Hanlin felt as if he were standing on a sandy beach in a raging storm, his whole body trembling. He asked, "Is this true?"
Defang replied, "How could I dare to joke like that?" Before he finished speaking, there was a sudden, urgent knocking at the door. Delin went out and opened it; it
was Xiaoyan. Holding a small gift box, she said, "This is from my husband to your husband." Deyun hurriedly informed Hanlin, "Master Zhao
has sent someone with a gift." Hanlin quickly went to greet him.
Defang saw that it was Xiaoyan and whispered to Hanlin, "Is this the one you were talking about?"
Hanlin nodded and said, "I know, no need to say more." He smiled and said, "We just moved into the garden and haven't even had a chance to see
your husband yet, how come you've already gone to his troubles?"
Xiao Yan said, "My husband happened to obtain some Autumn Dew Tea, and daring not to keep it for himself, he specially sent it to you. He hopes you will accept it with a smile." The scholar, seeing
Xiao Yan's refined appearance and eloquent speech, found her very charming. They went to the room together, and she opened the box, which contained two packets of Autumn Dew Tea and a small
note.
The note read: "Tender green flag-like leaves, a type from Tianchi. A small amount is respectfully offered to aid one's literary thoughts. Though bitter, it truly quenches thirst.
" The scholar, upon reading this, smiled broadly and said, "Thank you very much, sir. Let me write a reply." He ground ink with dew drops, momentarily
overwhelmed with joy, unable to think of a reply. Seeing Xiao Yan standing beside him, so captivating, he glanced at her, and she understood
and left. Hanlin said to Xiaoyan, "My mind is weary and my heart is parched; I need your help to write. You must do it well." Having said this, he
embraced Xiaoyan and kissed her. Xiaoyan pushed him away, saying, "Master Tu, be respectful, don't be so improper. My husband is waiting for a reply;
hurry and write a note to send me away."
Hanlin, in a frenzy of excitement, ignored her words. He wrapped one arm around her neck and used the other to unzip his pants, saying, "My dear, don't
rush me." He pushed her onto the bed and thrust his penis into her anus.
Xiaoyan said, "Master Tu, if you want to tease me, you don't have to force yourself like this." Hanlin ignored her, smeared his saliva, and
thrust straight in. Xiaoyan, knowing it was inevitable, said, "Master, be gentle; I'm not used to this." Hanlin said, "The best
is yet to come. Just bear with it." With a final thrust, Xiaoyan cried out, "Ah!" as he was halfway in. Hanlin thrust again
, until he was fully inside. Xiao Yan said, "Master Tu is making a fool of himself, disregarding my pain." Hanlin just kept thrusting wildly. Xiao
Yan was in excruciating pain, but how could she bear Hanlin's feelings for Zhao Sheng, which he had given to Zhao's servant? With each thrust, he pulled and pulled,
like a dragon playing in the water. Xiao Yan, in this position, could only listen to his teasing.
At first, it was extremely painful, but later it became slippery, and there were creaking sounds in her buttocks, which was quite amusing. She said, "Master Tu, don't forget
today." Hanlin knew she was having fun, so he turned her over and began to use his skills, thrusting and pumping, making Xiao Yan
moan and groan, her buttocks shaking and swaying wildly, screaming and crying out, her vagina dripping with lustful fluid, gushing out like a spring
.
After a while, Hanlin, unable to contain his pleasure, embraced Xiaoyan and said, "Sweetheart, I'm going to lose it. You really need to stick your butt
up." Xiaoyan quickly moved her buttocks forward, turning around to kiss Hanlin from behind, and then spread her
buttocks apart with her hands, doing everything she could to please him. Hanlin was overwhelmed with pleasure, and after dozens more thrusts, he exclaimed, "This pleasure is killing me!"
and ejaculated profusely.
He held her tightly and asked Xiaoyan, "Are you happy? Does your husband do it for you too?" Xiaoyan replied, "My husband
isn't as shameless and frivolous as you." Hanlin laughed loudly, "Don't rush, I still have to play with him!" Xiaoyan
said, "Don't even think about it, my husband never makes fun of others. Don't be silly." Hanlin said, "You said you were making fun
of me, how could that be?" Xiaoyan said, "I've been here too long, let me go back quickly." Hanlin said, "Clench your buttocks tightly so
I can pull out." Xiaoyan clenched her buttocks with all her might, and Hanlin pulled out her testicles. About half a cup of vaginal fluid flowed out with the testicles.
Hanlin was afraid it was something wicked, it all looked like saliva. He said to Xiaoyan, "This is all your cunt fluid." Xiaoyan quickly straightened her
clothes, and just as she finished, Hanlin had already finished thrusting back in. Zha Yun wrote:
"Thinking of my thirst, you kindly offered me fine tea. I only just smelled its lingering fragrance before I was ready to change it. You are a wanderer from afar, a mediocre person.
I am fortunate and ashamed that the gatekeeper did not reject me but took me in as a close friend. I respectfully thank you again, Your Excellency. Enclosed is a poem and two incense
packets, to express my sincere gratitude. The stench is unpleasant, and I am sorry to disappoint you at this late hour. I understand. Your beloved younger brother, Tu Biji
, bows deeply." He then took another incense packet and a handkerchief and gave them to Xiao Yan. Xiao Yan refused to accept them, but the Hanlin scholar put them in his sleeve, saying, "
Don't think it's too light; it's just a small token of my appreciation." Xiao Yan smiled and accepted them. He added, "Please inform the Prime Minister that I will come to meet you tonight. Do not
go out again, please."
Xiao Yan took the packets and returned to see Zhao Sheng. Zhao Sheng asked, "Why did you take so long to return?" Xiao Yan replied, "Master Tu
wasn't finished tidying up and asked me to help him with the arrangements, so I'm late. There's a reply note here, saying he'll come back later tonight.
Please pay your respects to Master Tu and don't let him leave."
Zhao Sheng took the note, read it, and put away his fan. He thought to himself, "Since he has a reply note, why does he still want to see me?" Then he
thought, "Since I'm asking for his advice, how can I refuse him? I should be courteous and leave him a foundation for future consultations.
" So he instructed Xiao Yan, "Since Master Tu has invited me, and he's a guest from afar, it's not good to be disrespectful to him. Prepare a small feast, and when he
arrives, have the candles trimmed so we can have a quick chat." Xiao Yan readily agreed and hurried to make the preparations.
Meanwhile, Hanlin sent Xiaoyan away, cheerfully saying, "Good fortune, good fortune! The first time is always the next, and I'm not afraid of things not going my way
. But I wonder if he'll be willing to see me tonight?" He then thought, "He gave me a gift; he values me greatly. How could he refuse me
?"
Seeing the sunset, he dressed neatly, waiting to visit at dusk.
But as fate would have it, things don't always go as planned. Just then, Mr. Qin sent his page to fetch him for a chat. Hanlin couldn't
refuse, and reluctantly followed the page. Mr. Qin and he discussed history and current events until the next morning, still not parting. Although Hanlin's body
was in Qin, his heart was in Zhao; during the conversation, he only nodded in agreement.
Seeing that he was tired from talking, the teacher said, "You must be tired today, please go back." The scholar, like a criminal hearing the imperial edict, was
overjoyed and repeatedly said, "I really can't continue today. I beg you to forgive my disrespect, sir." After taking his leave, he
looked towards the East Garden and said to Defang, "You old pedantic scholar, you've been talking too much and wasting so much time. What's the big deal? You've made me late for
my appointment with Master Zhao. Now you should sleep." Defang said, "Not yet, how can a scholar go to sleep at this time?" He
pointed and said, "That brightly lit place is Master Zhao's study."
The scholar hurried over and saw that the double doors were already in place, and a light shone from a side room. The scholar leaned close to the window and spit a hole
in the paper window to peek. He saw Master Zhao wearing a bright red jacket and a white crepe paper robe, burning candles and examining books, his demeanor elegant and refined, like a celestial being.
Xiao Yan stood to the side, dressed in blue and white, elegant and extraordinary, like a golden boy standing before the Jade Emperor.
He was only peeking out when Xiao Yan noticed him and shouted, "Who's outside the window? How dare you spy on my study!"
Before Zhao Sheng could speak, Hanlin quickly replied, "It's Tu Sheng, the official, looking out from outside." Zhao Sheng quickly called for the door to be opened.
Xiao Yan opened the door, and Zhao Sheng dressed and came out to greet her, saying, "Brother Tu, why are you so late?" Hanlin replied, "I was summoned by the master
to discuss literature, so I came here. Knowing my sins are unforgivable, I dared not come to see you hastily, so I checked outside the window to see if you were asleep, so as to decide my whereabouts
.
I intended to visit you again tomorrow night, but I didn't expect to be seen by you again, adding to my sins." Zhao Sheng said, "No
, I dare not. I will naturally wait here." After bowing, they sat down as host and guest.
Hanlin said, "A traveler far from home, I lack the acquaintances of Mao and Xue, and the support of gold and silver. I am deeply grateful for your kind favor, brother, as if we were
family. You have bestowed such a generous gift upon me, making me feel utterly ashamed." Zhao said, "I only have coarse tea to quench my thirst, yet you have so generously
offered it to me. I am deeply uneasy, and I am even more grateful for your kindness. I am already deeply guilty." Hanlin said, "I dare not."
A moment later, Xiaoyan arrived with a tray. Hanlin said, "That's not necessarily true." Zhao looked at Xiaoyan, who understood and went to
prepare the food.
Hanlin then asked Zhao for his writing. Zhao said, "I am but a novice compared to a master; my spirit is utterly deflated." Hanlin pressed him for more.
Zhao entered the room and began writing. Hanlin followed, delighted, saying, "We met by chance on the road, and to be here in his room today
is truly a stroke of luck." He saw white curtains and red quilts, a red peach-patterned cool bed, a zither on the left and a sword on the right, books filling the shelves, inkstones overflowing the table, an incense burner and a
futon, a whisk and a ruyi scepter—everything was pleasing to the eye. The scholar silently thought, "When will I be able to sleep in this bed with him again? That would make my
sincere efforts worthwhile."
Zhao Sheng then presented several essays for his critique. The scholar praised them highly. Zhao Sheng said, "These are not for critique; I need your direct criticism of their flaws so
I can truly benefit." The scholar said, "They are fresh and elegant, profound and substantial. With these for the examinations, you'll be a piece of cake in the Imperial Academy." Zhao Sheng said
, "How dare I think such a thing?" The scholar said, "We may lose our books, but as long as we cherish them, obtaining high rank and
honors is our duty." Zhao Sheng said, "Brother Tu is a man of great talent and high office. I, a man of meager talent and uncouth character, dare not aspire to
such a position." The scholar said, "That's not how it works." Suddenly, Xiao Yan reported that the wine was ready.
Indeed:
After drinking, the flowers are admired without restraint; before the flowers, the wine's flow is extravagant.
To be continued in the next chapter.
Chapter Three: A Heart Full of Romantic Desire Revealed in Words; Resolving the Debt of Unrequited Love While Sick.
It is said that Zhao Sheng was discussing literature with Hanlin when Xiao Yan announced that the wine was ready. Zhao Sheng rose and said, "A simple feast of wine and vegetables,
enough to withstand the autumn wind, is not indecent;
only then can we be true friends." Hanlin had been talking with him for a while. Although he felt desire, seeing Zhao Sheng's dignified demeanor and upright manner, and considering it was their first meeting, he had to restrain himself and maintain a proper appearance. However, his face was burning with lust,
and his manhood was rock hard. Having finished reading the text, he wanted to leave, yet was reluctant to go; wanting to stay, yet had nothing else to do. He hesitated
, when suddenly he heard someone call him to drink. Like a phoenix emerging from purple mud, he was overjoyed and quickly said, "The dew is cold
and the wind is bleak, perfect for drinking. But I am honored by your hospitality, how could I dare to disturb you?" Zhao Sheng replied, "Brother, you are my guest, this is what I should do
, why do you say such a thing?" There, a feast of land and sea dishes was laid out, cups and plates were ready. After several rounds of wine, Zhao Sheng's face was like a peach blossom glistening with dew,
appearing even more radiant. The scholar, like a crabapple blossom in the rain, was even more alluring. You were greedy for me, and we began by discussing literature, but later gradually drifted into
matters of the heart. However, all our discussions were based on ancient and modern times, using allusions to illustrate our points, never touching upon our own lives.
Hanlin thought to himself, "Since things have come to this, I might as well be bold and provoke him, leading him astray. " He
then said fiercely, "Brother, you should be guiding me to the right path, not leading me into a bewitching trap. Besides, there are joyful places within the Confucian code; why
seek a living in a fiery pit?" Hearing these righteous and stern words, Hanlin felt deeply ashamed and rose to thank them, saying, "I have been away from
home for a long time, and living in a burning inn has been quite lonely. Wine has entered my heart, and I have made this foolish thought. I am grateful for your righteous words." " Xiao has also eliminated
half of his delusions."
Seeing the unease on Hanlin's face, Zhao Sheng smiled and said, "We've been family for so long, it's inevitable that we have feelings for each other, that's fine. But you
said you've eliminated half, how will you pay for the other half?" Hanlin said, "To eliminate the other half, you'll have to stop here." Zhao Sheng
laughed and said, "Why did you use a proverb, Brother Tu? You'll be punished with a large cup of wine as a warning for next time." Hanlin also laughed and said, "I'll be punished
, but you have to pay for the other half for me." He drank it all in one gulp.
Zhao Sheng said, "How could I possibly grant you your wishful thinking?" Hanlin replied, "I can, I can. But I fear you won't agree."
Zhao Sheng said, "I will. Just ask me to grant you what you want." Hanlin smiled obsequiously, "Brother Zhao is a wise man. Please consider this carefully.
" Zhao Sheng then realized his intentions had changed and laughed, "Today at our gathering, let's only discuss literature and avoid discussing other matters." Hanlin
nodded, knowing it wouldn't be easy to get what he wanted, and rose to take his leave. Zhao Sheng didn't try to keep him any longer.
Hanlin thanked him, saying, "I am deeply grateful for your kind hospitality. My drunken ramblings are a small token of my gratitude." Zhao Sheng said, "I
am deeply indebted to you. Although you seem to be a bit too heavy-drinking, I dare not insist you stay. I will apologize and take it as punishment tomorrow."
Hanlin and Defang returned to the garden. Seeing that Defang was tipsy, Hanlin sent him to sleep. Hanlin then sat alone in the pavilion, watching the first stars appear,
the moon shining through the willows, a gentle breeze blowing, and the autumn waters shimmering. He sighed, "The moon is bright and the wind is gentle, such a fine night. How can I bear to think of Zhao
Sheng's half-exposed state? I cannot control my lust, there is nothing I can do." He returned to
his room and sat sullenly. He saw Deyun holding tea to Hanlin with both hands. Hanlin's lust was burning. When he saw Deyun approach, he thought, "He
's a newcomer, he must be a bit pretentious. I'll treat him like Zhao Sheng, close my eyes and embrace Zhang and Li, and let myself vent. That will help me pass
this fine night. "
At that moment, Deyun's hands were very smooth and soft. He poured the tea, placed the teacup on the chair, and put his hands in his bosom. His whole
body was smooth and unusual. Hanlin said
, "I'll play with you." Deyun dared not refuse, dared not agree, dared not make a sound, he just trembled and panted. Hanlin said, "It's alright, I'll give you a hard time." Deyun just didn't respond.
Hanlin pushed him down onto the bed, took off his pants, and saw his penis, which was hot as fire, tender and plump. He
then entered Deyun's penis. He placed his legs on his arms, wiped them with saliva, and thrust in all the way to the root. The inside was warm, slippery, and
indescribable. Deyun, inexperienced in such matters, found it difficult to resist. But his master was showing him favor, so he
dared not feign weakness, gritting his teeth and letting him thrust in and out. Under the lamplight, they went in and out, their pleasure growing ever stronger.
Seeing his arousal, Hanlin turned him around, climbed onto the bed himself, hoisted Deyun's legs onto his shoulders like a woman's,
and used a pillow to cushion his buttocks, thrusting and pumping
vigorously, leaving no room for pause. He then embraced Deyun, kissing and licking him, and wrapped Deyun's legs around his back, holding him tightly. Hanlin was exhausted and sweating profusely, and his semen was released. Deyun was panting heavily,
remaining silent throughout the ordeal. That night, Hanlin actually slept with Deyun in his arms.
The next day, Hanlin hosted a banquet for Zhao Sheng, who gladly accepted. Hanlin, fearing that Zhao Sheng might frighten him and refuse
to come again, and knowing he might not even get his hands on him, resolved never to discuss anything lewd, and they enjoyed each other's company immensely. He was satisfied with just a full meal.
Afterwards, their intimacy grew daily, involving composing poems and exchanging verses, but whenever the topic of lewd matters arose, Zhao Sheng's
face would change. Hanlin, at his wits' end and unable to find a solution, would finally lose his temper and take Fang Deyun as a form of catharsis.
One Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhao Sheng invited Hanlin for drinks. During the drinks, a few intimate details came up, and Zhao Sheng got up and left
. Hanlin returned to his garden dejectedly, sighing, "A true man dies for his principles; why should I suffer at the hands of a mere child? Let him go." He then pondered...
He said, "How can I bear to part with such a beautiful and gentle woman? I must patiently guard her. As a Hanlin scholar, I cannot even win the
heart of a man. It is truly a case of a common man's will not be swayed." He tossed and turned, bored and restless, unable to sleep all night. Overworked and chilled by the cold, he
suffered from alternating chills and fever, and the next day he was unable to get out of bed and could not eat.
Defang and Deyun were panicked and at a loss. They came to report to the Hanlin scholar, "Sir, your illness has worsened considerably.
It would be best to return home to receive medical treatment. It is inconvenient here, and besides, Lord Zhao is stubborn and unyielding. What good is your infatuation? It would be better to reveal
your true nature, return home, recover, and then use your influence to win her over. That would be much easier." The Hanlin scholar said, "Don't talk nonsense, I want to sleep." He
then drifted off to sleep.
Defang said to Deyun, "This illness all came from Minister Zhao; now we should have him treat it." Deyun said,
"Indeed, we should tell him. We should also inform Minister Qin." Defang said, "You stay and watch over the Minister
; I'll go and tell them."
That day was the day of the lecture, and he went to the lecture hall and explained his illness and inability to get out of bed. Master Qin was greatly alarmed and said
, "You've fallen ill while visiting, and there's no one to care for you. What should we do?" After the lecture, he came to see the scholar and touched his
face; it was as hot as burning coals. Master Qin called out, "Yuzhi, I've come to see you."
The scholar awoke with a start, saw it was Master Qin, and forced himself to speak, "I haven't been careful enough and have caught a cold. I'm
very sorry for worrying you, Master." After a few words, he felt weak. Master Qin said, "Speak less, don't waste your energy." The scholar
fell asleep again. Seeing his grave condition, the teacher was alarmed and instructed, "Take good care of him; I'll go fetch the doctor."
The teacher left.
A short while later, the doctor arrived, examined his pulse, and prescribed medicine, saying, "This is due to emotional distress. He will recover easily
once his condition improves. His chills are deep; we must first disperse them." He then left.
His classmates came to visit him in twos and threes. Only Zhao Sheng, who had gone home early to visit his family, did not come. Suddenly, Xiao Yan arrived. De Fang
and De Yun exclaimed in unison, "Your husband is a murderer! He wants to be friends, yet he also wants to remain innocent. This has caused him
immense suffering, alternating chills and fever, and loss of appetite. Now he lies half-dead in bed, what can be done?"
Xiao Yan hurried into the bedroom, went to the bedside, and called out, "Master Tu, how is your condition?" Hanlin forced open his eyes, saw it
was Xiao Yan, and sighed, "His life is on your husband's shoulders." He then burst into tears.
Xiao Yan wiped away his tears with a handkerchief, saying, "Things will be resolved if you're lenient. Take care of yourself, sir." The scholar said, "
Alas, he won't help me; this illness is hopeless." He then drifted off to sleep again.
Xiao Yan told De Fang, "You stay here to prepare the medicine and attend to him. I'll go and inform the master." She rushed home,
where Zhao Sheng was talking with his father. Seeing Xiao Yan's haste, he excused himself to relieve himself and greeted her, asking, "
What's wrong at the academy?" Xiao Yan replied, "Hurry back to the academy! Master Tu is dying!" Zhao Sheng was greatly alarmed. Without asking further questions, he told his father
, "The teacher is waiting for me to lecture; I must return to the academy." His father happily agreed.
Zhao Sheng bid farewell to his father and left, wishing he could sprout wings and fly away. On the way, Xiao Yan relayed the scholar's words to him directly. Zhao
Sheng's face flushed red, then turned pale, then red again, saying, "What he thinks is none of my business." Even as he said this, he took
a quick step forward.
Upon arriving at the academy, before even seeing the master, he went to the East Garden and met Deyun. He asked, "How are you, sir?"
Deyun replied, "Sir is unconscious and in a very serious condition." He hurried into the bedroom, sat by the bed, and stroked the scholar's head, saying,
"Zhao Wangsun is here." The scholar awoke with a start, sighed, "Brother Zhao..." and then sobbed uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face.
Zhao Sheng also quickly wiped his face with his sleeve; his face was as cold as ice. He said, "One must not grieve while ill. I hope you take care of yourself. Good
fortune favors the virtuous, and you will recover." He then asked, "Can you take your medicine?" The scholar said, "My illness is not something you cannot cure. Medicine may be effective, but
can it dispel my lovesickness? I shouldn't have been so abrupt, but I am on the verge of death. It is because of your affection that I have come to this. I want to reveal my true feelings
so that you will know the reason for my death. Then I can die in peace." After saying this, he could not speak again.
Zhao Sheng, with a dignified air, bowed low and said, "I am a man, why should I harm your infatuation?" Seeing the Hanlin scholar's grave expression,
he thought, "He truly cares for me, but he has no other choice. Besides, his illness is terminal, and I don't know if he will recover. I will deal with him patiently."
He said, "Brother, please rest assured, I will stay with you. We will discuss everything after you recover." The Hanlin scholar hurriedly said, "With your
company, I am grateful for your help in preventing my illness from worsening." Zhao Sheng said, "Brother, you cannot do that while you are ill." The Hanlin scholar said
, "I am too lazy to speak, how can I perform the act? But with your company, you will relieve my worries, and perhaps I will recover as a result, and I will be
indebted to you for saving my life."
Zhao Sheng had no choice but to say, "I have already pledged myself to you, brother, and I will serve you ." "I'll come back soon after I leave." Hearing that he was leaving, Hanlin
said tearfully, "I'm too ill to recover. Brother, please remember my love and risk your life
. Don't break your promise. If you don't come on time, you'll be taken to a fish market." Zhao Sheng said, "Brother, you're too kind. I'll come back after seeing the teacher. I won't break my promise."
After seeing the teacher, Zhao Sheng returned to his room and sighed, "Where did this misfortune come from? If I don't go, this
person will surely harm me. If I go, I can't guarantee I'll be alright." He then thought, "He's ill; he can't do anything evil. A good friend
should stay with him. It's not too late to refuse him when he recovers." He hesitated several times before going to see the doctor, but the illness was severe. Worried,
he ordered Xiao Yan to guard the gate and went to the East Garden.
Meanwhile, Hanlin's illness was originally a cold. After taking the medicine, he felt much better. After being comforted by Zhao Sheng, his illness had improved
by eight or nine tenths. He only pretended to be sick to deceive Zhao Sheng.
As evening fell, Zhao Sheng came and said, "I've come especially to attend to you. Is your illness any better, brother?" Hanlin replied, "I'm feeling increasingly drowsy;
how can I expect to recover?" Zhao Sheng sat by the bedside. After about two hours, Hanlin closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep. Suddenly, he awoke with a start and said,
"Brother Zhao, I'm terribly cold. Could you please come and warm me up?" After saying
this, he kept complaining of the cold. Seeing his condition, Zhao Sheng had no choice but to take off his clothes and get into bed, wearing only his undergarments, and lay down with his feet tucked behind him. Hanlin
said, "I can't sleep with my clothes on. Since you've pledged yourself to me, why are you hesitant to take off your clothes? You're clearly just trying to fool me."
Zhao Sheng said, "I was afraid of chilling you, so I dared not take them off." Hanlin said, "Take them off so you can sleep better." Zhao Sheng had no
choice but to take them off. Hanlin didn't touch or grope him, and Zhao Sheng, truly believing in his illness, was completely unsuspecting.
Another hour passed, and suddenly Hanlin exclaimed, "I'm so bloated! I'm so bloated!" Zhao Sheng hurriedly asked what was wrong. Hanlin
said, "My chest feels bloated and I feel so cold and uncomfortable. How about you let the servants rub it for me?" Zhao Sheng believed him and said,
"It's late at night and they're sound asleep. Let me rub it for you." He moved to the head of the bed, put on his robe, sat down beside him, and rubbed his abdomen.
Hanlin said, "Excellent, excellent! But I feel uneasy with you sitting beside me. Come under the covers and let me
rub your abdomen to ease my mind." As he spoke, he pulled back the covers. Zhao, fearing that Hanlin's sick body would get cold, had no choice but to get under the covers and
rub his abdomen.
Hanlin thought, "If not now, when?" He said, "Brother Zhao, stop. I no longer feel bloated
." Zhao stopped. Hanlin then touched Zhao's skin, which was as smooth and lustrous as cream. Zhao panicked and said, "
I'm very ticklish, don't do this." Hanlin said, "Since you've given yourself to me, why should I hesitate to touch you?" Zhao had no choice but to let
him touch him.
Enjoying the touch immensely, Zhao pushed his hand away, and Hanlin took the opportunity to insert his hand into Zhao's neck, embrace him, and kiss him. Zhao turned
his face inward, his buttocks facing Hanlin. Hanlin inserted his right foot under Zhao's right foot, bending it slightly. With his left foot
on Zhao Sheng's right shin, he held Zhao Sheng's head and neck with his right hand, pulled away Zhao Sheng's left hand, moistened Zhao Sheng
's anus with saliva, and then pushed Zhao Sheng's buttocks with his left hand, advancing sideways.
Zhao Sheng, now in this position, could not refuse and had no choice
but to say, "I have already promised you, brother, why can't you delay a little? To do this while seriously ill is not only unbecoming of a brother, but also unbecoming of myself." Hanlin said, "I am desperate; I will have no
regrets even if I die." Zhao Sheng, hearing his final words, sighed deeply and listened to his teasing.
Hanlin dared not act rashly, moving slowly and tenderly, showing concern for Zhao Sheng's illness, her shyly extending her jade-like thighs, her
delicate beauty, her timidly stretching her waist. Feelings welled up in his heart, he wanted to serve her but hesitated, her soft cries like those of a courtesan, yet not quite.
With a gentle turn of the head, it resembled a swaying willow, glistening with dew, as if bathed in the dew of the Qi bamboo. Its mouth held a pearl, half-swallowing, half-spitting it out relentlessly,
striking three times swiftly, advancing and retreating without ceasing.
Then, rain nourished the Bodhi tree, and flowers flew across the Dharma realm; Zhao Sheng's fifteen years of life were lost in a single day.
Hanlin said, "I apologize." Zhao said, "I am deeply moved by your passionate love. Even if the rivers were to overflow, they could not wash
away my shame. I am a man, learned and virtuous, about to establish myself in the world, yet I have willingly become a woman. I am utterly ashamed. I only
hope you will pity me and keep this a secret." Hanlin said, "I will keep it in my heart, for all eternity, and never dare to forget it. How could I dare to reveal it? Moreover, the one I love is
right here among us. What happened today is certainly wrong in principle, but in terms of love, a man can be a woman, and a woman can be a man. It can lead to
life and death, and it can lead to life again. Those who speak of life and death between men and women do not understand
the true meaning of love. I have always said that the sea may dry up and the rocks may crumble, but love cannot be buried." Zhao said, "From this, I can say that you are truly a man of deep affection."
Hanlin then recited the poems "Expressing My Love" and "Like a Dream" to express the depth of his longing. Zhao Sheng said, "Today's events are truly
a tragic fate. The day I saw you, I was reluctant to part, and though I sought the reason, I could not find it. So I wrote 'Remembering the Prince' to console myself, and the last line contains
a line that evokes deep emotions. Looking at the lines from the 'Three Lives Stone' about the old spirit, I realize today that the words are hidden meanings." Hanlin said, "This is no accident;
it is truly ordained by Heaven." Zhao Sheng asked, "How are you? Are you well?" Hanlin replied, "I am no longer ill." Indeed
: "
Worried about a heart ailment, one speaks of it to a doctor; a heart ailment still needs the beloved."
(Commentary) Even a virtuous woman fears a lazy man; this applies to men like Zhao Sheng, let alone women. Yan Zhang and Shen Jiao, no wonder they are like this. This is true
for everyone.
Chapter Four: Mr. Qin Reads and Understands the Text; The Foolish Servant Conspires to Do Treason.
It is said that Hanlin and Zhao Sheng, having resolved their longing, were cured of their illness. From then on, they slept together every night, loving and affectionate, their
love surpassing even that of husband and wife.
One day, Zhao Sheng asked Hanlin, "Brother, you say there is pleasure in the female, but when I enter it, I only feel pain." Hanlin
replied, "When I'm on your body, it's like a water mill; I dare not indulge myself. After a little stimulation, I quickly stop, and I never reach the best
state."
Zhao Sheng asked, "How can there be a best state here?" Hanlin said, "There are seven inches inside, seven inches without excrement.
There is an orifice on it, which only opens when something enters; otherwise, it remains tightly closed. So, when you finish, you should contract your anus to close the orifice, so that
no excrement comes out. Within those seven inches, there is also a vaginal orifice. You must thrust more than a thousand times until it itches inside, at which point the vaginal orifice will open, and lustful fluid will flow
out—it is indescribably beautiful. Those who experience pain are amateurs. The anus is actually quite spacious. If you want to experience pleasure, you must do it for a while, and
the pleasure will come naturally."
Zhao Sheng said, "Since that's the case, although I am not good at it, please let me try."
Hanlin was delighted with what he said, sent his servants out, closed the door, and prepared to begin. Zhao Sheng said, "Let's
do it tonight." Hanlin said, "It's all the same. We've both been aroused by your words, so let's do it now." Zhao Sheng had no choice but to half-heartedly
comply, taking off his clothes and kneeling by the bedside as Hanlin's wicked member entered him.
Zhao Sheng said, "Wait, it still hurts a bit." Hanlin said, "You have to endure the pain first." He thrust again, all the way
to the root. He thrust and pumped vigorously, about a thousand times, and gradually water began to flow into Zhao Sheng's anus.
Zhao Sheng said, "It's starting to itch inside." Hanlin said, "Not yet." He turned over, straddled him
, spread his thighs outside Zhao Sheng's thighs, knelt on the mat, hooked Zhao Sheng's legs with his hands, and pried open Zhao
Sheng's anus with force.
There were wet, wet sounds inside, which Zhao Sheng found very interesting. Unconsciously, he began to shake and thrash his buttocks, and then he
had an orgasm. Seeing that Zhao Sheng had never been like this before, Hanlin knew he was enjoying himself, so he became
even more determined, until Zhao Sheng groaned and moaned, "Dear brother, this is good, this is wonderful!" His usual solemnity vanished completely.
Hanlin then pulled Zhao Sheng's head and kissed him, even spitting out his saliva for him to eat. Zhao Sheng, at this point, forgot himself, acting
like a woman with her husband, and readily complied. Hanlin pulled out his glans and thrust it hard to the base, causing the lustful fluids from Zhao Sheng's anus to flow
out with his testicles, a continuous stream. Hanlin then held Zhao Sheng tightly, rubbing his testicles inside his anus, causing Zhao Sheng's anus to itch
unbearably, his lustful fluids flowing freely, and he cried out, "I want to die!" He thrust in and out relentlessly.
Hanlin couldn't resist any longer, and with a few more forceful thrusts, he too ejaculated. Only then did the itching in Zhao Sheng's anus subside.
Hanlin asked, "Was it interesting?" Zhao Sheng replied, "If you don't experience it yourself, how can you know that you have such a paradise?"
From then on, it happened every night. The scholar genuinely taught him calligraphy, correcting his writing style. "
If you don't know, don't do it." At first, the two of them restrained themselves, but later gradually became less careful. Even Mr. Qin
had some suspicions, not to mention his friends, but it was all just speculation, with no way to verify anything. Furthermore, Mr. Qin's rules were extremely strict, and the students
lived in scattered locations, so even those with ulterior motives couldn't expose his private affairs. After three months, Zhao's calligraphy became virtually indistinguishable from the scholar's
, even the characters were somewhat similar.
One day, at a writing competition, Mr. Qin saw Zhao's calligraphy and mistook it for the scholar's
. Later, seeing the scholar's work, he realized that the scroll was Zhao's. He thought, "How come he seems to be using the same characters as the scholar? This kid is acting strangely." He ordered his servant to summon Zhao
.
When Zhao Sheng entered the teacher's room, the teacher asked, "Where did you get your essay?" Zhao Sheng replied, "I wrote
it." The teacher said, "This essay was written by Tu Yuzhi. How could you possibly have written it? Even if I tried my best to imitate him, I still couldn't do it
. With your limited knowledge and learning, how could you possibly reach that level?" Zhao Sheng said, "It truly was written by me. If you don't believe me, I'll give you an interview."
The teacher then gave him a topic. Without hesitation, Zhao Sheng wrote it down in one go. The teacher thought it was even
better than a written examination. The teacher was greatly surprised and said, "You did it, but how could you have achieved such a level of skill without oral and personal instruction?
Why don't you tell me directly?" Zhao Sheng said, "I dare not lie. Because you praised Tu Yuzhi so highly, I
sincerely asked for your guidance. He personally instructed me, which enabled me to achieve this." The teacher said, "The behavior of the two men was already suspicious
. Now that you have this concrete evidence, it is confirmed. What kind of place is this? How dare you break my rules?"
Zhao Sheng knelt down and said, "I hope you will be lenient, teacher." The teacher said, "Tu Yuzhi's behavior was already suspicious. It seems that
you came not for me, but for you." Zhao Sheng blushed, lowered his head, and knelt on the ground. The teacher said, "Get
up. You should behave yourself. My disciples and I have seen through your behavior. I will not forgive you then."
Zhao Sheng thanked the teacher and took his leave. He had not gone far when a servant came running and said, "The master wants you to go back. There is a steward
to speak with." Zhao Sheng had no choice but to go back to see the teacher. The teacher said, "Tu Yuzhi's character and writing are unlike any of the other students.
Although he has become my student, I have always treated him with the courtesy due to a guest. I cannot imitate his writing style either. Since he has brought you to this position,
he is not harming me, and you have benefited from it. You need not tell him what I just said, lest he harbor
more resentment." Zhao thanked him and left. Fearing that the Hanlin scholar might find it inappropriate, he did not say anything, but simply avoided suspicion. He
returned to his room early and went to the East Garden only when it was quiet. His daytime meetings were as indifferent as ever. Seeing his demeanor, his friends were
somewhat relieved.
Suddenly one day, the Salt Commissioner summoned Mr. Qin to the government office, and he did not return for more than ten days. With the teacher absent, the students did not
stay in their rooms as usual, but wandered around. Two of them, who had nothing better to do than cause trouble, acted arrogantly. One was named Du Ji, and the other
was named [name missing], who loved to talk about other people's strengths and weaknesses. Knowing that they had pointed out Zhao and the Hanlin scholar's behavior, they wanted to
seize this opportunity to get close to them.
One night, the two men hid in the shadows and saw Zhao Sheng enter the East Garden of the Hanlin Academy. They watched as Zhao Sheng went inside,
and then they followed him in. They saw Zhao Sheng enter the Hanlin Academy's bedroom and followed him. Fortunately, Yun came out and saw them, calling out,
"Who is it?" Zhang Wuji had no choice but to reply, "It's Master Zhang and Master Du. If Little Zhao can come, why can't we?"
Saying this, he slowly crept in.
The Hanlin Academy and Zhao Sheng were doing this when they heard someone coming; they quickly dressed and came out. The two men had
reached the door and said, "Brother Tu, you've had a good time." Hanlin asked seriously, "What have you had?" Zhang and Du laughed loudly
, "Don't try to hide it from me, I already know." Hanlin asked, "Know what?" Du Ji pointed at Zhao Sheng and said, "Know
him." Zhao Sheng asked, "Know what about me?" Zhang arrogantly said, "Still trying to argue. Wait until I embarrass you."
Du Ji deliberately played the good guy and said, "For Brother Tu's sake, we'll wait for you up ahead." After saying that, he walked out.
Zhao Sheng said, "What happened? It's so shameful." Hanlin said, "I'm truly uneasy about suffering this humiliation for me." Zhao
Sheng said, "I'm afraid it won't end here. Those two are very good at stirring up trouble, even when there's nothing to it. Seeing this
, how could they remain silent?" Hanlin said, "Fate is jealous of those who are too proud, good things are often fraught with difficulties, and joy often turns to sorrow. This is the natural order of things.
From now on, we will have fewer and fewer opportunities to meet." After saying this, tears streamed down his face.
Zhao Sheng, with tears streaming down his face, said, "What is uncertain is external, but what is certain is my heart. Is there anyone in the world as devoted as the two of us
? Let the storms rage on; our love will never be resolved. I beg you, brother, to be patient for a few days, until things settle down, and then we can resume our old friendship.
I must return today, lest our schemes lead to further humiliation."
Hanlin dared not detain him, and tearfully saw him to the gate. He wanted to have someone escort him further, but Zhao Sheng said, "It's not far, and
it's inconvenient with the garden gate closed; there's no need to see me off." After Zhao Sheng had gone some distance, Hanlin returned to his room, fell asleep fully clothed, and did not show it.
Now, Zhao Sheng, having bid farewell to Hanlin, was halfway through his journey when Du Zhang came out and said, "Brother Zhao, you have been waiting for me for a long time." Zhao Sheng did not reply
and continued on his way. Zhang Kuang said arrogantly, "Brother Zhao, why are you so kind to Tu Sheng, but so unkind to us?" Du Ji replied, "It's not too late to be kind from now on
." He then walked to Zhao Sheng's side, and Zhao Sheng angrily said, "What are you saying?" Du Ji said, "I can't say it, you'll have to take
me down." Zhao Sheng saw that he was speaking rudely and shouted, "Nonsense! Shameless! Who do you think I am, that you dare to be so disrespectful
?" Zhang Kuang said, "Too pretentious. You think you can have him, but we can't? You insist on..." One of them hugged him tightly, and the other went to
take off his pants.
Seeing that he was being forceful and knew he couldn't escape, Zhao Sheng lied, saying, "Brother, since we love each other, we should talk about it with affection. Why force me? If
you agree to my terms, that's fine; if you don't, I'll fight to the death. If I start shouting, what will become of your respect?" Du Ji said, "
My dear, as long as you agree, we'll do whatever you say." Zhao Sheng said, "We're out in the open, the wind is biting, it's not good to talk like this.
Come to my room and we can have a private chat."
The two men were tricked and agreed. He let them go, but then he touched their hands and faces, and Zhao Sheng had no choice but to obey.
Upon reaching his room, he said, "I'll go knock on the door first. You two step back a little." He knocked and opened the door. Xiao Yan opened the door, and
Zhao Sheng entered the room. Without saying a word, he drew the sword hanging on the wall and rushed out, shouting, "You arrogant and tyrannical Du Ji,
you've come! Come on, take my sword! My head may be severed, my chest may be ripped open, but my body cannot be dishonored! Today's matter is not because I have wronged you,
but because you sought me out. I'll settle this with you, at least for now!" With that, he drew his sword and charged.
The two men saw his changed expression, and that he had a sharp sword in his hand. They also saw Xiao Yan rushing out with a dagger to meet them. Realizing the danger,
they turned and ran, their shoes falling off in the process.
Back in their room, Du Ji said, "I haven't even had a chance to sleep with him
, and he's practically given away his eight-inch-three." Zhang Kuang said, "If we're going to do it, we might as well go all the way. If we don't expose their affair, we're not even human
. We'll tell everyone we meet. When it gets to Qin Lao'er's ears, won't they be embarrassed? We'll get our revenge." Du Ji said, "Yes, yes."
Meanwhile, Zhao Sheng returned to his room and told Xiao Yan what had happened. Xiao Yan said, "The world will be in turmoil from now on." The two
sighed deeply.
The bright moon was obscured by clouds again, and the flowers in full bloom were destroyed by rain.
The next day, Zhang Kuang and Du Ji told their classmates many malicious things, saying that Zhao Sheng's son was
keeping a lover. The bookworms, hearing this, whispered and murmured among themselves. Zhao Sheng was so ashamed that he dared not leave his room, yet he couldn't bear to bump into them.
They dared not go to the East Garden, nor did the Hanlin Academy dare to come. Though separated by only a short distance, they felt as if they were looking at the vast sky of Chu.
Zhang and Du then went to find the bulwark of the East Garden to say these words. The two had long resented Zhao Sheng for refusing to follow them and for abandoning
his old friend to seek a new teacher. Upon hearing this, they said, "Very well, today we can put an end to our old grudges." They went to Zhao's house to see Zhao's father,
adding a touch of sarcasm and mockery, telling him their story with a few taps and slaps, and then left laughing.
His father was a righteous man, and said, "I'm so angry! I thought he was going to find a teacher to study, but he's turned out to be doing such a dissolute job."
His mother was trying to persuade him when suddenly Xiao Yan came to fetch supplies. In a fit of rage, Zhao's father grabbed his hair and began to beat him, saying, "
I told you to serve that good-for-nothing scholar, to be his kept man!" Xiao Yan asked, "Where
did you hear that?" Zhao Gong replied, "You still dare to deny it. Everyone in the school knows. Dong Shensheng, the governor of the village, told me himself. If you still deny it,
I'll bring Zhang and Du here to testify, and I'll beat you to death."
Xiao Yan, realizing she couldn't hide anything, said, "Sir, please sit down and let me explain. My lord isn't a woman; even if
such a thing happened, it's common sense. If you find out, you can only ignore it, and the gossip will die down. But why believe others' slander and hurt your own
nature? If you go to find Zhang and Du..." " You've already committed slander, how can you hide your feelings? It won't look good for you, sir. Young Master
's career has never taken off, yet he still wants to become an official. According to Xiao Yan, it's best if you keep it a secret."
Zhao Gong was awakened by Xiao Yan's words and said, "That makes sense. I wrongly hit you. Go and fetch that
good-for-nothing."
Xiao Yan obeyed and went to the academy to tell him everything. Zhao Sheng said, "Father, if you find out, I'll be so ashamed
. I'd rather die." Xiao Yan said, "He's like a treacherous person, impossible to redeem. What good would death do? Father and son are naturally related; I've already told you. Don't
argue with him; let him say a few words." Zhao Sheng blushed and nodded silently.
Xiao Yan asked, "Could you say goodbye to Master Tu?" Zhao Sheng replied, "With everyone watching, how can I go? Since
that day we parted, several days have passed without seeing him again, and my heart is breaking with longing. If I don't say goodbye, how can I put his mind at ease?
I'll write a few words of farewell so he knows where I am, and that will comfort him a little." Xiao Yan said, "There's no time to lose, hurry up." Zhao Sheng
picked up a pen and wrote, "Brother Tu is only a few steps away, yet we cannot part face to face. Why has Heaven decreed that we two must be separated like this?" After speaking,
tears fell like rain, soaking the paper. Xiao Yan said, "If you're going to go out, why not have your fortune told?"
Zhao Sheng, fighting back tears, wrote a note through his sobs, saying:
"I, an unworthy man, have been honored by your kindness. I thought we were sworn brothers, bound together for eternity, but I have been betrayed by a treacherous person. This has damaged my character, and my father is furious.
I dare not disobey. Though I wish to part, I fear the gossip. Although our reunion is imminent, each day feels like an eternity, and
this winter is unbearable. Nights feel like years, but I have food and clothing. I hope you will take care of me. I hope you will cherish my life. Your humble servant, Zhao
Wangsun, bids farewell with tears." He gave it to Xiao Yan to take away.
As they approached the East Garden, Du Zhang suddenly shouted, "You've sent another letter!" Xiao Yan ignored him and walked away.
Du Zhang, knowing there was something smuggled, rushed over to search, just as Yun arrived. Xiao Yan said, "Brother Yun, I don't have time
. Please take it." Yun understood, took the note, and went into the East Garden. Du Zhang regretted, "If we had been any faster, it would have fallen into our hands."
The two left disappointed.
When Xiao Yan returned, she recounted what had happened. Zhao Sheng stuck out his tongue and said, "I shouldn't have gone, otherwise he would have said all those nasty things about me." He
quickly packed up and went home with Xiao Yan to see his father. His father scolded, "You good-for-nothing dog! How could I have expected so much from you, yet you've done such
a despicable thing!" Zhao Sheng just lowered his head and remained silent.
His father ordered him to stay home and study, forbidding him from going out. Zhao Sheng went inside to see his mother, and from then on, he only studied at home.
The Hanlin scholar brought Zhao Sheng to the palace to report, knowing that his father knew about what had happened and had called him back. He didn't know whether to punish him or not, nor did
he dare send anyone to ask him. He also didn't know when Zhao Sheng would return. He wanted to leave, but hadn't even had a proper farewell. He was bored here, truly
indecisive and caught in a dilemma. Suddenly, I thought, "I'll write a note and send it to someone convenient when they have a chance, so I don't have to think about it at the last minute. "
So I called for Yun Dilu to grind ink, and wrote:
"Since you left, I haven't thought of you for a single day. Looking up at the high mountains, my heart aches unbearably. There are fish in the Jin River and deer in the Jade Mountain. Alas,
people of this world suffer from separation and cannot reunite. Words cannot express my feelings, and words cannot convey my thoughts. I wish you well, to comfort your kindness. Your loving
brother Zijian. I respectfully send this with tears in my eyes."
After writing, I had no choice but to send it. I only hoped that Xiao Yan would come. Feeling listless and heartless, I forced myself to walk outside the garden. Seeing the scenery, I realized that everything was different.
Reflecting on the past and present, I couldn't help but shed tears.
Indeed:
Heaven and earth may have an end, but this sorrow will last forever.

My heart is weary and restless; I imagine they grow thin with longing. I crumble Xue Tao's poems, unable to bear the sight of her heartbreaking verses.
*
Yellow Oriole*: Tossing and turning, growing ever more bored, I lean against the window, afraid to gaze into the distance. My brows furrow with sorrow, reflecting the face of my departed lover
. I compose poems with fervor, but am too weary to peruse the classics. Clear tears fall on my robes in the wind; no news has reached us, my beloved. How can I not hold onto my heart?
*Cat Falls*: A violent storm, what has caused such devastation? The intertwined branches have been torn apart; jealous flowers disregard their graceful beauty. A mournful cry.
When will we meet again, like brothers, and befriend each other?
Epilogue: Loving each other, we parted with bitter resentment. In revenge, we faced utter devastation, like severing our heads and tearing out our hearts.
Let's not dwell on Hanlin's thoughts of Zhao Sheng and his resentment towards Zhang and Du. Instead, let's talk about Mr. Qin returning to his academy. Upon hearing of this, he summoned the arrogant Zhang and Du to
the main hall and berated them: "You cruel and mean-spirited villains! What grudge do you hold against him? Why have you ruined his reputation, damaged his nature, and tarnished
our school's image? I was going to punish you both, but you accuse me of harming you for your own sake. You beasts who fight amongst yourselves, if
I don't punish you, Heaven will punish you. Hurry up and pack your things and go home! If you delay even a moment, I'll go to the teacher and issue a denunciation
. Don't blame me then! Go away!" The two, finding no other option, packed their things and went home.
Mr. Qin came to the East Garden to comfort Hanlin. Hanlin was very grateful and went to Zhao Sheng's house to visit him, mentioning that Du and Zhang
were incompetent and had already been expelled to dispel the father's suspicions. Zhao Sheng was overjoyed. That evening, he said to Xiao Yan, "The two traitors have arrived. You
should go see them."
Xiao Yan replied, "Indeed, I don't know why I'm thinking about them."
The next day, Zhao Sheng wrote a letter and a quatrain, instructing Xiao Yan to take it to Hanlin. Hanlin said, "My dear friend, you 've lost
your handsome face due to lovesickness."
Xiao Yan said, "You two are filled with endless longing, each day feeling like a year. I think you understand perfectly. Your husband has repeatedly wanted me to come see you,
but he was afraid of the two traitors, Du and Zhang. Now, I'm glad that Prime Minister Qin has driven them away, removing a thorn in his side. But I don't know when we'll meet again." He then
gave the letter to Hanlin.
Hanlin sighed deeply, opened it, and read: "Our love is so deep, yet we cannot even meet. Even a heart of stone would
weep for this. The two traitors are gone, and my heart is truly at ease. My brother is near, but we are far apart, unable to fly to you to talk about our separation. I cannot help but
feel my soul fading away." My heart is heavy with longing, and I cannot utter many words of affection.
I humbly request your understanding that I must express my feelings beyond words. My longing has become an illness, and I cannot bear to sing. Heaven has ordained this, and what can I do? Heavy feelings need not be expressed lightly, and deep emotions need not be emphasized. I attach a poem to express my longing.
The poem reads: Alone in my solitary study, my heart burns like fire; I wander, tears streaming down my face. My longing is boundless and unspeakable; I fear even a lonely monkey could not bear to hear it, for I have met
my beloved brother.
After reading it, Hanlin said to Xiaoyan, "Your husband is so devoted to me; I would die without regret."
Xiaoyan said, "My husband asked me to write a message to him, asking him to be patient and to come to see me whenever he has free time, and to tell him not to have any
other thoughts."
Hanlin said, "I also need to see him before deciding what to do." He ordered some wine and food to settle the matter with him, and
gave Xiaoyan the song he had composed earlier and a letter. Xiaoyan took it back and gave it to Zhao Sheng. Zhao Sheng inquired about his whereabouts, but since they
could not meet, he could only ask Xiaoyan to go see him.
In early December, the imperial examiner suddenly issued the notices, setting the county examination for the 16th. His father instructed Zhao Sheng to submit his exam paper. Zhao Sheng, having submitted his paper,
went to Qionghua Academy to thank the teacher for his explanation the previous day. He then went to the East Garden to see Hanlin. Hanlin
, upon seeing him, was overwhelmed with mixed emotions of sorrow and joy. Zhao Sheng said, "I've been handling many things behind the scenes; I wanted to say something, but upon arriving at the East Garden, I couldn't utter a single word.
" Hanlin asked, "How did you manage to come see me?"
Zhao Sheng replied, "Brother, you don't know yet. The imperial examiner issued the notices for the county examination on the 16th, and the whole city is in an uproar. I was
only able to come see you because I submitted my paper. It would be good if I passed the exam. If I don't, my father's scolding is a minor matter; what I will have to do is not to see you as before
." He finished speaking and tears streamed down his face.
Hanlin, upon hearing about the examination, was both surprised and delighted. He was surprised at the impending separation, but delighted that he could repay Zhao Sheng. He then said, “I am deeply grateful for
your kindness, brother. Though I have given my body and soul, it is insufficient to repay your kindness. I rely solely on my heart and soul. Although I cannot help with the examination, I believe
I should be the best person to assist you. I was preparing to leave, but because I could not meet you, I have been delayed here. Now that I have seen you,
I will depart immediately. We will meet in Beijing in March of the following year.”
Zhao Sheng asked, “Will you be able to come to Beijing?”
Hanlin replied, “Your unworthy words will prove true in time. Remember them, they can serve as a topic of conversation in the future.” After saying this, Hanlin
rose to take his leave.
Zhao Sheng wept and said, “We have just met, and now we must part again. My heart is breaking.” Hanlin said, “We will meet again someday,
there is no need to be sad. I will avenge those four people, Zhang Kuang and Du Ji, who are from Dongshen Shengshui.” Fangyun and Xiaoyan, knowing that the two
had been separated for a long time, closed the garden gate and left.
Hanlin looked at Zhao Sheng with reluctance and asked, "Will you miss me after we part?"
Zhao Sheng replied, "A day feels like three autumns; how could I not miss you?"
Hanlin said, "If that's the case, then I would die without regret." He embraced Zhao Sheng and said, "We've been apart for so long, and now
we must part again. I wish to bid you farewell; please don't blame me for being presumptuous."
Zhao Sheng did not refuse, saying, "I am bound by my father's strict rules, and I have already been punished many times for my infidelity.
I regret that I cannot go with you in this hasty farewell; how could we not share a bed?" They undressed and slept together, but their joy was hindered by the thought of parting, and they could not
fully enjoy themselves.
Hanlin bid farewell, saying, "The appointment for next year is not a false invitation. Everything depends on you
. Take good care of yourself and don't worry about me.
You've been here for a while, and I'm afraid your father will notice and become angry again. You should go back quickly. I will also grow my hair long from now on." Zhao Sheng sobbed
and couldn't speak.
Hanlin also wept, saying, "This matter is out of necessity. If I don't go, it's none of your business. This exam is of great importance
to you. If you fail, your friends will slander you, and your parents will despise you. After I leave, you must think about the exam. When we meet again,
don't treat me like a poor scholar. That's why we won't let you down. But there's one important thing to say: if you pass the exam
, remember to write a good essay. Never forget this." He bowed deeply, almost speechless, and they
comforted each other again.
Soon after, the three servants arrived. Seeing their two masters in such a miserable state, they said they had to leave, and each of them shed tears. Deyun and Fang instructed
Zhao Sheng to take good care of himself, while Xiao Yan urged Hanlin not to let lovesickness torment him. Xiao Yan said, "If you stay too long, I'm afraid the master will send someone to inquire
about you, and you'll suffer even more. Go back quickly."
Zhao Sheng cried out in surprise, "Even a moment later would be better."
Hanlin, fearing that his infatuation might cause trouble, tricked him, saying, "Brother, please stay a few more days. I'll leave after you finish the county
examination, depending on the situation. You can go back and focus on your studies." Zhao Sheng nodded and bowed again, and Hanlin left with comfort.
It was truly a scene of tearful eyes seeing tearful eyes, a heartbroken person seeing off another heartbroken person. Having already set off, he turned back several times, his sorrow almost unbearable.
Hanlin saw Zhao Sheng off and returned to his room. He instructed Defang and Deyun to pack his luggage before bidding farewell to Mr. Qin, saying,
"I have been separated from my parents for a long time and wish to return home to visit them. I will be setting off now, so I bid you farewell."
Mr. Qin was very reluctant to part with him, knowing that his journey was already decided and that he could not keep him. He said, "It's just as I was about to leave. I am truly
reluctant to see you go. However, since you are returning to visit your parents, I dare not insist that you stay." He ordered wine to be prepared for his departure and added, "My family is very proud..."
"I am truly uneasy; one must be prepared for any eventuality,"
said Hanlin. Hanlin replied, "I am deeply honored that you, Master, have accepted me as your disciple and
have given me such earnest and insightful teachings. However, I have failed to grasp their meaning and have failed your great instruction." After
several rounds of wine, Hanlin rose to take his leave. The other monks, seeing his upright and extraordinary character, were all impressed and saw him off at the temple
gate.
Hanlin left Qionghua Temple and went to the Gu family's house. Feng Cheng and the others greeted him and kowtowed. They asked, "Master, you have been gone for a long time
, and we are very worried. We have followed your instructions but dared not visit you. Are you well?" Hanlin replied
and then instructed, "I will go to Jiangdu County to pay my respects tomorrow."
The next day, he went to Jiangdu County and submitted his visit. The magistrate, a fellow student of the same rank, quickly invited him into the inner hall, saying, "Brother, you've come
at the right time. With the exams underway, no one is reviewing the papers. Brother, you are highly talented; please find two good students for me to win over the scholars."
The Hanlin scholar replied, "I would be honored. However, I fear I am not up to this responsibility and will fail you."
The magistrate said, "Brother, you are a renowned scholar throughout the land; you are too modest." The Hanlin scholar thanked him and settled into the yamen.
Five or six days later, the exams were scheduled. The magistrate and the Hanlin scholar discussed and formulated the questions, which were then administered at the Censorate. That evening, all the papers were sent to
the inner hall, and the doors were sealed for review. The magistrate and the Hanlin scholar drank and reviewed the papers together. Suddenly seeing Zhao Sheng's examination paper, he exclaimed, "A prodigy!
A prodigy! How could such writing be found among my sons? I fear it must have been written by someone else."
The magistrate took it and examined it, saying, "Indeed, a fine piece of writing."
The Hanlin scholar secretly commented, "This is a prized possession of the Hanlin Academy, unlike my son's work. If it is indeed from this young man, my
position and yours will soon be secured. We must summon him for an interview tomorrow. If he is not, we should dismiss him and bring him here, along with his substitute
father and teacher. If he is truly accomplished, we will certainly treat him with exceptional respect." The magistrate said, "You are right, brother." "Yes, we'll know
the truth tomorrow." He then saw the two scrolls of "Dong Shen Sheng Shui" (a type of classical Chinese prose), which were utterly incomprehensible and chaotic. He said to the magistrate, "
To come to the examination with such illiteracy is clearly a mockery of the government. They should be posted on the screen wall as a warning, and the magistrate and his father and teacher should be
punished. This will prevent them from causing trouble when cases are handled."
The next day, the magistrate held court and wrote a red slip: "Immediately summon Zhao Wangsun for a re-examination in court to determine the top score." He also ordered
his bailiffs, "Summon him immediately; I will await the re-examination." The bailiffs flew away.
He then ordered the two scrolls of "Dong Shen Sheng Shui" to be posted, so that everyone would see them and feel ashamed. He also sent men to arrest the two men
and their father and teacher. The two men had a grudge against Zhao Shengsun and had broken up their romantic relationship. Today, the Hanlin scholar, using his position for personal
gain, had avenged his past grievances and ruined their reputations. It was a case of past actions being used against them.
Meanwhile, Zhao Sheng's father was at home with Mr. Qin, reviewing Zhao Sheng's exam papers, when a constable approached and called out, "
Congratulations, Master Zhao!" Master Zhao asked, "What brings you this joyous occasion?" The constable showed him a red ticket, which pleased his father greatly.
Mr. Qin instructed Zhao Sheng to change into a blue robe, arranged a sedan chair, and accompanied his father to take Zhao Sheng to the county for the re-examination
. He also gave the constable a gift bag. Xiao Yan, carrying writing materials, went with them to the county court. Just as the water was rising in the east, they were led
to the county court by ropes, one by one. Zhao's father, an acquaintance, was surprised and asked what was going on. His father replied, "My son is incompetent, always trying to fool his father." Pointing
to the screen wall, he said, "He wrote such incomprehensible characters; he should have done so himself, yet he has implicated this old man." The constable then asked
why Zhao's father had come.
The constable interjected, "His young master has been brought here by the magistrate for the re-examination to be ranked first. Unlike your son." Since
the magistrate had not yet left the court, he announced their names and they all went inside.
Seeing his own son like this, and others' sons like that, and considering they were former classmates, Zhao's father thought of Zhao's recent actions
and said, "These two beasts deserve this." He was overjoyed.
Zhao met with the magistrate, who immediately gave him an exam question. Zhao presented three essays in succession. The magistrate, seeing his young age and
excellent writing, was full of praise and immediately gave him a high commendation, telling him to go home and study diligently. Dong Shensheng, kneeling on the ground
, was terrified and regretted, saying, "We had no grudge against him back then, yet he helped us today. He's like a
god today."
Zhao thanked the magistrate, who escorted him to the dripping water. Zhao went to Dong Shensheng and mocked him, saying
, "Are you still waiting here for the re-examination, brother? I'll go first. Brother, study hard and come back slowly." The two were so ashamed they had nowhere to hide.
Zhao Sheng's father and Mr. Qin continued, "Things used to be quite exciting." They saw that Shui Zhi and Dong Sheng were each given twenty
strokes of the cane and fined fifty taels for repairing the city walls. On one hand, there was such excitement; on the other, such distress. His parents resented him, and his friends looked down on him.
When Zhao Sheng left the county, his father was already there in a sedan chair, waiting to carry him home. He lamented Zhao Sheng's suffering, and even Xiao Yan was happy
. Zhao Sheng went to the study and said to Xiao Yan, "My academic success seems to be within reach, but I don't know anything about Master Tu
. I'm quite worried."
Xiao Yan said, "The exam is important. Don't worry about other things. Once you have your success, then we can think about other things." Zhao Sheng said, "
That's true."
He went from Yao County to the prefecture, and from the prefecture to the academy, all to take the imperial examinations. Some people tried to curry favor with him by proposing marriage. Others tried
to study with him, but he refused them all. Not long after, during the autumn examination, he remembered the instructions to write a high-ranking essay, and thus, he secretly wrote it in the final chapter
. Nangong then selected him as the top scholar. That year, Zhang Kuang and Du Ji, both lacking in virtue, were ranked sixth, which was truly gratifying. Mr. Qin sent someone
home to fetch travel expenses and then went to the capital with Zhao Sheng from Guangling. This time, the teacher and student were even more different, and they
traveled in silence. Upon arriving in the capital, they found a place to stay. That year, the great tutor was none other than Feng Xiang. After the three examinations, Zhao Sheng once again achieved the highest rank, and Mr. Qin was also
on the list. The next day, they went together to thank the great tutor. Feng Xiang greeted them, and Zhao Sheng looked up at him, his soul nearly leaving his body
. Mr. Qin was stunned, but neither dared to utter a sound.
After the audience, he invited Zhao Sheng to stay for a meal. After they sat down, he asked, "Do
you know Tu Yuzhi, my dear friend?" Zhao Sheng blushed and
said, "How did you know that this was a close friend of my student?" The tutor said, "Have you forgotten our appointment in Beijing, my dear friend?"
Zhao Sheng said, "How did you know that this was a close friend of my student's private conversation? May I ask where Brother Yuzhi is now?" Zhao
Sheng clearly recognized him, but he didn't want to admit it.
The host said, "To know that Tu Sheng of yesterday is the same person as Feng Xiang of today." Zhao Sheng bowed and thanked him. They were once close friends, now
he was his mentor; he explained everything, and then he knew the promise made in Beijing was true. He
returned and told Mr. Qin, who said, "I have not been negligent." In the palace examination, Zhao Sheng ranked second, while Mr. Qin ranked
third.
Zhao Sheng was granted permission to return home to marry, and the county magistrate acted as matchmaker. He married Miss Ni, a scholar of the Hanlin Academy. After the marriage, he took up his post, and his virtuous governance
was renowned. He was promoted to the position of Supervising Secretary in the Ministry of Personnel. When the Hanlin Academy was executed due to the influence of a powerful eunuch, Zhao Sheng hesitated, his words barely audible. Undeterred by the powerful figures, Zhao Sheng wept bitterly and immediately wrote a memorial.
Their grievances were appealed seven times before they were finally exonerated. Both men then resigned from their official posts, helped their families, and lived in seclusion within their own homes, remaining friends for generations.
(The rest is omitted.
