【Tales of the Land】(Volume 2, Chapter 7)

Chapter Seven: Oath-Taking for the Northern Expedition

Guiyun Valley, the sacred ground of the Ma family on the eastern foothills of Tianshan Mountain, is one of the thirty-six grotto-heavens and seventy-two blessed lands of the world. However, it still

cannot compare to the spiritual energy of Fengqi Pavilion on Zilong Mountain. Although Ma Yingfei can only absorb one-thousandth of the spiritual

energy of Zilong in Fengqi Pavilion, it is still more than three times that of Guiyun Valley. One year of cultivation here is equivalent to three years of cultivation in Guiyun Valley.

This is how cultivation is; in a place without the energy of heaven and earth, even ten thousand years of cultivation is useless.

Commoners and slaves of the Great Ze Empire are not allowed to cultivate, yet they make up more than 95% of the national population. Cultivation places the utmost

emphasis on Dao roots and blessings. Among the remaining 5% of the royal and noble families, those with Dao aptitude and wisdom are extremely rare, and those

with blessings are even fewer.

Martial arts, on the other hand, can be practiced by royalty, nobles, commoners, and slaves alike. Various schools and sects exist, and martial arts masters are as numerous as fish crossing a river

. The formation of the Purple Dragon Spiritual Energy is man-made, requiring over eight hundred years to gather the Qi of Heaven, Earth, and Man within a thousand miles.

It is a unique quality found nowhere else in the world! The formation of the Purple Gold Spiritual Energy is inextricably linked to the Ma family

. The women of the Ma family, the Demon-Exorcising Dragon Clan, possess the bloodline of an ancient divine dragon.

In the ancient Great Swamp, humans with divine dragon bloodlines are extremely rare. Their cells cannot be

artificially cloned. Ma Yingfei's cells, like Shui Linfeng's, cannot be artificially cloned.

When Ma Yingfei was a Four Pillar Spirit, she possessed the bloodline of an ancient divine dragon. Such individuals, if male, are Heavenly Four Pillar Spirits, and if female,

Earthly Four Pillar Spirits.

The cycle repeats every sixty years (ten spiritual years). In the past eight hundred years, only two people in the Ma family have achieved the Four Pillar Spirit status: one

is Ma Yingfei, and the other is Empress Ma Xiuying, the founding empress of the Ming Dynasty eight hundred years ago.

At that time, among the Four Pillars of Heaven, only one person could be found in the entire Ming Dynasty—the old Taoist priest Liu Bowen. Due to

unavoidable circumstances, Ma Xiuying married Zhu Chongba. Later, as Empress of the Ming Dynasty, she used imperial power to search

the entire country and found the Four Pillars of Heaven.

But even if she found them,

what good would it do? As Empress, Ma Xiuying couldn't possibly have an affair with Liu Bowen, could she? However, the matter that had plagued the Ma family for generations couldn't be ignored. Reluctantly, she had to compromise, coercing and bribing the old Taoist priest

to forcibly extract the Dragon Crystal Core buried deep beneath Nantian City using the Ninety-Nine Golden Lotus Formation.

Beneath Nantian City, at the foot of Purple Dragon Mountain, lived an ancient purple-gold divine dragon. Its head was Purple Dragon Mountain itself, its neck

to the Drum Tower (its spine), and its tail to Yeshan Mountain. Beneath the dragon's body lay a shark demon. With the Dragon Crystal Core extracted,

Ma Xiuying feared that the dragon's corpse alone wouldn't be able to suppress the enormous shark demon.

They used Zhu Chongba's human-dragon corpse to secretly replace the dragon crystal core, forming the Great Celestial Star Array

to suppress . They also tricked Zhu Dama into building a drum tower on the dragon's spine and the Chaotian Palace on Yeshan Mountain, with the Chaotian Palace facing

the South Heavenly Gate, and setting up the "Liexing Gate" to suppress the dragon's tail.

The prehistoric dragon chased the shark demon along the sea eye, which was located under the city wall of the South Gate of Nantian City.

After the dragon crystal core was extracted, it would naturally absorb the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. Eight hundred years later, it would form a materialized spiritual dragon energy. A

thousand years later, the spiritual dragon would have its own consciousness and would enter the sea through the sea eye.

Ma Xiuying really didn't know if the Ma clan of dragons could prepare everything eight hundred years later. In a fit of rage, she actually

found the "Sea Soul Asura Cover" (commonly known as the Treasure Basin) to completely seal off the entrance to the sea. There was also the fear that future generations might accidentally dig it

up and build a city on the sea eye. To dig the sea eye, one would first need great magical power to remove the Shura Cover, and to find the Shura

Cover, one would first need to dismantle the city walls.

Originally, the Dragon Crystal Core was inside the divine dragon's body. Nantian City was a natural place for the dragon to rise, conducive to an emperor establishing a capital and founding a

dynasty. However, after the Dragon Crystal Core was extracted, the divine dragon became a dead dragon, and the dragon vein naturally ceased to exist. Any regime that established its capital there

would not last long, at least a dozen years, and at most a few decades before its demise.

The spiritual dragon energy gathered around the Dragon Crystal Core was sealed by Liu Ji using an innate Dao array, preventing it from dissipating.

Other cultivators, if they

could not break Liu Ji's Dao talisman, would not be able to absorb the spiritual dragon energy of Purple Dragon Mountain. Only the Ma family could use the "Mysterious Yuan Jiao Golden Lamp Array" left by Old Liu to absorb the Purple Gold Spiritual Dragon Energy continuously

through the dragon's mouth in the center of the Phoenix Perch Pavilion's roof, from the previously reserved "Void Gate," without breaking the Dao talisman, when the dragon energy matured

.

The physique of the women of the Ma clan was different from that of ordinary women. Back then, Zhu Chongba, wanting to have relations with Ma Xiuying,

begged his crony, Liu Laodao, but Liu was powerless to help. Unable to withstand Zhu Chongba's relentless pursuit, Liu Laodao

went to his master. Even after breaking Ma Xiuying's innate Daoist body, he still couldn't seduce her, and from then on, Empress Ma hated

Liu Laodao.

In reality, the founding empress of the Ming Dynasty had no children; from Zhu Biao to Zhu Di, none of the princes were her

biological offspring.

Back then, Liu Laodao was playing tricks again. The spiritual energy of Zilong Mountain was vastly

different . Even after being refined by the Xuan Yuan Array, the Ma family could only absorb one-thousandth of it.

It was also different from the Daoist energy of other sects, but it was of the same quality and origin as the Daoist energy in their sect's "Wordless Heavenly Book." When Shui

Linfeng cultivated on the top of Fengqi Pavilion, cutting off the spiritual energy, the aura of the Purple-Gold Spiritual Dragon surged into his body like a flood,

impossible to resist.

One day of cultivation here was more effective than a year of cultivation elsewhere. Half a month later,

on the top of , Shui Linfeng had been cultivating all night. Logically, he should have already

withdrawn the talisman and stopped. However, today Shui Linfeng discovered that he couldn't withdraw his spiritual energy. Forcing it might lead to a qi deviation, so he had no choice but to persevere and see what was

so strange .

In the morning, Shui Linfeng was still on the eaves of Phoenix Perch Pavilion, barefoot, performing the strange movements from the wordless

heavenly book . Suddenly, he felt a

tightness in his chest. A large amount of spiritual energy rushed into his body from the "Yongquan" point on the soles of his feet. Shui Linfeng instantly felt unable to breathe, as if his chest and abdomen were about to explode, extremely uncomfortable.

His face turned purplish-black, and the filth within his body was turning into wisps of black gas, slowly forming an

almost tangible black curtain around him, with a foul stench.

Just as he was about to collapse, Shui Linfeng suddenly felt his body relax. A large amount of black liquid

flowed from his body, dripping down the eaves. The spiritual energy that surged into his body circulated joyfully along the eight extraordinary meridians and twelve regular meridians

, instantly completing a small cycle.

With his meridians opened by the spiritual energy, he felt as light as a swallow. This method of opening

meridians . Opening meridians with qigong is a forced opening; to put it bluntly, it only opens the superficial

layers. With spiritual energy, however, it flows naturally.

Shui Linfeng knew his innate Dao body was complete. From now on, all the meridians in his body could smoothly

connect with the spiritual energy of heaven and earth, making future cultivation twice as effective. After circulating the spiritual energy within his body for nine small cycles, he smiled and withdrew

the "removal talisman," gradually releasing a faint, refreshing lotus leaf fragrance from his body.

He flipped backward, plummeting nine zhang and nine chi down from the Phoenix Perch Pavilion. Upon landing, he was greeted by A Xiang's adorable smiling face:

"Congratulations! I've prepared something delicious for you. Go take a bath, you're smelly and dirty!"

Shui Linfeng was in high spirits and grinned as he tried to hug A Xiang, but A Xiang fanned her little nose and ran away laughing.

After Shui Linfeng's bath, the lotus fragrance on his body became more pronounced. Ma Yingfei and A Xiang both possessed a faint, orchid-like,

musky body fragrance.

Shui Linfeng ate the large bowl of beef noodles that A Xiang had brought over with a smile, and asked, "What are

you doing ?"

A Xiang replied, "It's early morning, why are you asking me, Miss?"

Shui Linfeng hugged A Xiang tightly, kissed her cheeks twice, and said, "There's still time. If you're busy and

don't have time for us, how about we do some morning exercises?"

A Xiang returned the kiss and said, "No way! Miss has been restless these past few days! She might get scolded! You

eat by yourself! I'm going to serve Miss!"

With that, she left.

The date was October 2nd, 193rd year of the Great Ze Empire. Zhao Chengyu, the young marshal of the Zhao family army in the north, personally

led an army of 600,000. To the east, they joined forces with the Tang family army of 400,000, personally commanded by Tang Ao, the young marshal of the Tang family army. The two armies

together had a million elite troops, 20,000 various warplanes, 100,000 light and heavy artillery pieces, 100,000 tanks, and 300,000 armored vehicles.

At six o'clock in the morning, they swore an oath and set off, determined to avenge their previous defeat, utterly crush the Northern Wolf-Fox Alliance, and reclaim the

180 square kilometers of territory lost by Daze.

Economically, those 180 square kilometers were practically worthless to Daze,

but strategically vital. This 180 square kilometers stretched almost entirely from east to west, connecting

the entire Daze region, virtually indefensible.

To the north, however, were countless high mountains and great rivers, all over 3,000 meters above sea level, stretching for thousands of miles

, blocking the heartland of the distant Western and Northern Beast Kingdoms.

Apart from the "Eastern Barbarian Pass" in the northeast corner, the "Yuchong Pass" in the northwest corner, and the "Tiger-Wolf Pass" adjacent to Yuchong Pass,

there were no other roads. If the orcs crossed the mountains, they couldn't bring heavy weapons, and their aircraft couldn't land safely; they would

only be captured or killed by humans for food.

Donglu Pass, originally in the hands of the Fox Clan, was breached two years ago by the Tang-Zhao allied forces and firmly held

by , thus blocking the threat of the orcs along the northeastern line of the Great Swamp. Yuchong Pass had been in the hands of the Ma Clan for generations and had never been lost

; Hulang Pass, held by the Wolf Clan, separated the Tiger and Wolf Clans, serving as a natural

barrier for the wolves against Tiger hunting.

The conflict between beastmen and humans is irreconcilable. Humans eat pigs, sheep, dogs, and other animals; as long as they are not of their own kind,

other animals can be slaughtered and eaten. Beastmen are the same; apart from their own kind, other beastmen, including humans, are food.

Beastmen also hunt each other; for example, although the Tiger and Wolf Clans have an agreement that when food is scarce, the Tiger Clan will hunt the Wolf Clan.

However, compared to humans, humans are the easiest to catch. They are slow runners, have limited attack power, and their meat is the most delicious.

The Great Swamp Empire's strict control over weapons greatly benefits the beastmen in hunting humans. The wolf pack

was driven to this depression by other, more ferocious beastmen from afar, but unexpectedly, they found themselves with delicious

human flesh to hunt—a stroke of good fortune in disguise.

Over four hundred years ago, the wolf population was a mere one million. With humans as a readily available,

palatable clean food source, their numbers surged to thirty million in just a few centuries. Even

the fox clan, whose reproduction was extremely difficult, grew from an initial sixty thousand to over eight million.

Zhao Chengyu's military campaign against the wolves and foxes was a last resort. Without wiping out the beastmen, the Zhao family army's defenses would be in constant

turmoil, with people being captured and killed daily.

Ma Yingfei wondered why her brother, Ma Yunfei, known for his bravery, could remain at

home during a bloody battle right outside their door, refusing to lead his troops out of Yuchong Pass. It was strange.

This great battle, from the commander to the soldiers, is comprised entirely of the elite of the younger generation from Daze. Moreover, Zhao Chengyu and

Tang Ao are both good friends of his brother; in the north, the three were inseparable, practically inseparable. Why

would his brother stay home while Zhao Chengyu and Tang Ao lead troops into battle?

Wouldn't it be better to launch a joint attack on the wolf-fox alliance from the east, south, and west?

In officialdom, there is only profit, no righteousness. It's not that Ma Yunfei is unwilling to go to war; it's just that the old man of the Ma family is firmly

holding him Ma Yingfei know about the old man's

secret plot with Wu Dengke, the eldest son of the Wu family.

Zhao Chengyu has been waiting for this day for ten years. Since the great victory over the wolf army ten years ago, the wolf clan has split into two parts:

the eastern part led by Xiao Tianzuo, the eldest son of the old wolf king Xiao Tong, and the western part led by Xiao Tianyou, the second son of the old wolf king. Their fighting strength

is far less than before.

They could have wiped out the wolf clan much earlier, but the hateful thing is the eight million fox clan.

Between humans and wolves, it's difficult to send spies or infiltrators; humans with human faces and

wolves with wolf faces are easily distinguishable. In battle, it's a direct clash of strength and strategy. The fox clan is different.

Many foxes possess the ability to transform, easily changing into human or wolf forms to gather intelligence and

espionage .

Only female foxes can transform. Once, a female fox even transformed into Zhao Chengyu's wife, Zhuge Qingying, directly interrogating

Zhao Chengyu military matters. Fortunately, Zhao Chengyu was cautious and recognized the deception in time; otherwise, the Zhao family army would have suffered

countless casualties. They also know how to sow discord, causing discord among the generals. Zhao Chengyu spent nearly ten years searching for

virtuous men throughout the land to help him capture foxes, including Ma Yingfei, with whom he met and developed a secret

romance.

By the time Ma Yingfei went to university, the foxes capable of transformation had been largely eradicated from the fox clan. Without the fox clan's

intelligence network, Zhao Chengyu was confident he could wipe out the remaining wolf soldiers within five months and reclaim all lost territory.

The wolves had nowhere to escape; once they left Tiger Wolf Pass, they would be hunted by the tiger clan. Although the two clans had a long-standing

agreement not to hunt each other, the tiger clan would certainly hunt down any wolf that had fallen into the water. Moreover, the agreement between the tiger and wolf clans

involved the wolves paying twice the human meat as a sacrifice for their safety! Faced with this

massive offensive, the wolves had no way out but to fight to the death!

Zhao Chengyu had arranged this large-scale military operation with Ma Yunfei, but the old man of the Ma family, for reasons unknown,

refused to send a single soldier. The opportunity was too good to pass up! Zhao Chengyu couldn't wait any longer with the Ma family in the northwest. He informed his maternal uncle and arranged to meet with

his cousin Tang Ao to launch a decisive attack on the Wolf-Fox Alliance from the east and south.

All the citizens of the Great Ze Empire also attached great importance to this great battle. If they could achieve a great victory, drive the wolves

out of Tiger-Wolf Pass, and allow humanity to defend Yuchong Pass, Tiger-Wolf Pass, and Donglu Pass, then human safety would be unprecedentedly

guaranteed.

Shui Linfeng, however, was indifferent to politics. The attack on the Wolf-Fox Alliance and the recapture of lost territory felt too far removed, like

something happening on another planet. He didn't care. Besides studying cultivation, after meals, he would go to school to shoot with Qin Yihong, and back home

to set off firecrackers with A Xiang. He enjoyed himself while he could. His marksmanship and artillery skills had become increasingly refined!

For half a month since the Zhao-Tang allied forces set out, both humans and wolves have been fighting to the death. The battles have been extremely fierce, but the human

army has been reporting frequent victories. To avoid leaving corpses for the wolves to use as supplies

, the automatic incinerators attached to the heart meridians of human warriors are activated upon death. The incinerators start immediately as soon as the heart meridian stops.

Ma Yingfei, however, is restless and unable to concentrate on her cultivation. She has stopped practicing Qi cultivation altogether these past few days. She has made numerous

calls to her brother—internal, external, military, and home—but no one answers.

When Old Man Ma answers the phone, he speaks of trifoliate oranges and jasmine, and

avoids discussing the matter. Ma Yingfei, with her exceptional spiritual insight and strong sixth sense, senses a massive conspiracy unfolding around Zhao Chengyu.

Shui Linfeng has been cultivating in the abundant spiritual energy of the Phoenix Pavilion for over a month, his cultivation equivalent to thirty years of cultivation elsewhere

. His innate Dao body is rapidly transforming into an innate true body. Once he enters the Profound Heaven Dao body, Shui Linfeng

will be able form his core.

The Daoist methods in the Nameless Heavenly Book are extremely profound. Other Daoist sects require at least the Qian Yuan Dao Body and the presence of Immortal Essence before

one can form a Core. However, Shui Linfeng, having studied the Nameless Heavenly Book, is a whole major stage ahead of time. Once he reaches the Xuan Tian Dao Body and

has Xuan Yuan within his body, he can form a Core.

Having spent more time with A Xiang recently, he learned that she possesses the Three Pillars of Spirit, meaning she is naturally able to gather and condense spiritual energy . However

, he discovered that she doesn't understand any "principles," which explains her slow cultivation and chaotic spiritual energy . She also lacks any Daoist methods and cannot gather spiritual energy for attack or defense. Normally, someone like her , with spiritual energy and power, would progress fastest through dual cultivation. However, the problem is his Nine-Turn Dragon Spear. Every time they make love, A Xiang is significantly delayed. Shui Linfeng only completes two rotations of the Dragon Spear. Dual cultivation is a mutual process; Shui Linfeng must complete nine rotations before he can release his own essence, first nourishing A Xiang's vulva, then allowing her to return to her clitoris, thus achieving the goal of harmonious dual cultivation. If Ah Xiang's cultivation was hindered and Shui Linfeng couldn't release his own essence, then dual cultivation would become mere energy drain. Given Shui Linfeng's current cultivation level, if he deliberately drained her, he would deplete her within days. Helpless, he had to find the Ma family's cultivation methods in the "Linglong Record" and teach Ah Xiang from the basics. He explained it to her word word, supplementing it with martial arts techniques to relax her muscles and improve circulation. The Ma family's Shangqing Sect's Taoist methods and martial arts were all exquisite and more suitable for women to learn. Ah Xiang was naturally gifted and extremely intelligent , and unlike the direct descendants of the Ma family women, she didn't have any internal seals. Soon, her spiritual energy and true energy rapidly gathered in her dantian, and her internal "qi" began to move. If Ma Yingfei's internal seal couldn't be broken, Ah Xiang would form her golden core before Ma Yingfei. She also practiced the Ma family's secret "Thirteen Styles of Qingfeng" Demon-Subduing Sword Technique and "Wind and Snow" Palm Technique with remarkable skill , as if they were direct descendants of the previous generation of the Ma family's fairy nuns and immortals.
