[The Orphan's Love Affair with a Beauty's Rivalry] (Volume 2, Chapter 159)

Chapter 159 The Gate of Life and Death

He choked back tears, utterly heartbroken, "Harina, you are the kindest girl in the world! I swore

to protect you, to live a peaceful and joyful life with you, to let you live a carefree and happy life…

But, I may not be able to do it… Waaah… I'm sorry!"

Because their heads were already touching the ceiling, the entire cave was about to be filled with water, then filling

their stomachs and lungs, suffocating them to death!

"Wuyue, you did it, we will never be separated again, will we? I only ask this of you, we can see my mother

soon , and from now on, the three of us will be together, forever and ever!" Harina's limbs

clung to him tightly, like an octopus, even tighter than when Ying'er was terrified in Phoenix Lake!

Their heads were tilted back, their mouths and noses nowhere to hide, and he kissed her deeply, the merciless river

already engulfing them completely!

At least, he couldn't watch her die first; he was giving her his last breath. The passionate girl, oblivious to everything,

extended her tongue to entwine with his. She didn't know what would happen after death; she wanted to savor this final moment of deep affection,

to carry it through to the next life…

The moment before death felt so long. He wished to lose consciousness sooner, not wanting to experience

the death throes of a final struggle, at least before Harina, so he desperately squeezed out the last breath from his lungs to give to her…

His chest was empty, his mind gradually blurred. The faces and voices of Xiaoyu, Murong Ziyan, Beifeng, Lingti,

his elder sister , Li'er, and Yunmeng appeared before his eyes, along with his unfinished work…

In his daze, he vaguely heard another "creaking" sound of a mechanism!

He forced his eyes open, looking down towards the source of the sound in the water, only to see the entire mural had shifted to the left,

revealing a huge doorway!

With such a high water level finding an outlet, the water surged out,

drawing in . A powerful current carried the two out of the hidden door, rushing forward at incredible speed in the darkness!

He felt his body slamming against the cave walls, and after enduring immense torment, he finally lost consciousness. Harina

was already completely unconscious…

Some say that women are naturally more capable of enduring suffering than men. Harina was the first to regain consciousness, finding

herself lying on the wet cave wall, surrounded by darkness.

She instinctively thought, "Wuyue!?"

Thankfully, because she was holding him tightly, Wuyue was still beneath her, his entire body submerged in the still-flowing water.

She tried desperately to pull him out, but the cave walls were too slippery, so she could only lift his head and face above the water.

Her cold lips quickly reached for his mouth and nose; she seemed unable to sense any breath, and his body was ice-cold!

Her heart tightened, and she used all her strength to breathe into him, hoping to help him regain his breath.

She couldn't let him die like this!

What kind of person was he? Although they had only known each other for less than ten days, he seemed to have already left a deep

mark . How many years of accumulation would it usually take to leave such an unforgettable imprint!

He still didn't react, still couldn't feel her breathing, and his body grew colder.

"Waaaaah...waaaah..." Hot tears welled up and streams of crystal tears slid down her rapidly flaring nostrils,

rolled to the corners of her downturned mouth, and flowed into his mouth. Overwhelmed by sorrow, the corners of her lips twitched uncontrollably,

clenching tightly...

The bitter tears seemed to be slowly flowing from the crack in her heart into another soul.

The devoted soul had finally been pulled back to its other half!

The primordial spirit, which had abandoned its physical body and floated in the void, seemed unable to bear the true feelings of the human world and slowly returned to

its place .

Wuyue finally regained a little consciousness, and with it, a little breathing.

Harina was overjoyed and tried even harder to breathe for him. Seeing his long eyelashes tremble a few times, he finally

slowly opened his eyes!

The joy in her heart was indescribable! "Wuyue, you're finally awake! You scared me to death! Waaah..."

She cried, tears streaming down her face.

"I made a vow, and I will keep it. I will never give up easily..." Wuyue said weakly,

then began vomiting large amounts of water, which took a long time to stop.

Harina breathed a sigh of relief, but then felt excruciating pain all over her body. Looking down at her stomach, it was swollen like that of

a woman . Her stomach, as big as a ball, suddenly convulsed, and she vomited violently.

After lying there for almost half an hour, she felt some strength returning. The two struggled to

crawl forward slowly in the dark. Soon, Wuyue felt his head hit the wall. His heart tightened. Was it a dead end? But if so,

where did all the water go?

He instinctively reached out and groped around, discovering two openings on either side of the cave wall. The path had forked,

and he faced a choice: left or right, which way should he crawl?

Harina, however, had no need to worry about this.

She simply nestled close to him, following him even as he slowly climbed towards the eighteenth level of hell.

Wuyue chose the right path, climbing and resting intermittently. He felt the passage begin to slope upwards, and the soil beneath him

gradually dried. His spirits lifted. "Harina, it seems my choice was correct!"

He quickened his pace, but after climbing for an unknown amount of time, he was exhausted and could no longer move. Then,

his head bumped into the cave wall. He hurriedly reached out and felt around, but there was no way out. He stepped back and felt around again

,

but it was still the same! He became tense. Was this a dead end? Had he made the wrong choice? He reached out and pushed hard against the wall,

feeling that the soil was softer than other places. He quickly said, "Harina, let's push together!"

She responded and climbed forward, working together with Wuyue. However, despite their immense strength, they still couldn't push the cave wall

open.

She thought for a moment, then drew her dagger and dug into the cave wall, gradually creating a pit slightly larger than a washbasin.

After digging about a foot deep, a snapping sound was heard; the stones embedded in the mud had broken the dagger.

Wuyue, exhausted, quickly drew her curved sword and handed it to her, saying, "Try this sword of mine."

It was indeed a blade that could cut through iron like mud. She swung it forcefully with her right hand, and the stone was easily split in two! As

she dug further, she exclaimed in amazement, "Wuyue, where did you find such a precious sword? It cuts stones like cheese

!"

Wu Yue replied, "That was a birthday gift my godmother gave me two years ago. It's said to be made of supreme black iron, naturally

sharp and sturdy. You're tired, let me dig."

He dug for a while longer, having dug the pit more than three feet deep, when he felt a lightness in his hand. He put down his curved knife and pushed hard

, and a palm-sized chunk of the cave wall collapsed!

The two of them pushed open the cave entrance together, and the shadows of vines faintly appeared before them. They pushed aside the thick vines, climbed out of the cave,

rolled down, and lay on their backs on the grass. A surge of elation at surviving a disaster welled up in their hearts!

The sky was as black as ink, the moon hidden and the stars sparse—it was the darkest hour before dawn, yet for the two of them,

it was as if they had been embraced by a ray of light.

Looking back, they realized that the cave entrance was hidden on a steep slope overgrown with thorns and weeds as tall as a person.

Harina looked around for a while, then said happily, "I've been here before when herding livestock. It's only two or three miles from here to

that sinkhole, and another ten miles or so to the north is the territory of the Chahan tribe."

After resting for a while, she got up and searched around on the grassy slope, occasionally poking and

prodding . Wuyue asked curiously, "Why don't you rest properly? What are you looking for?"

Her eyes darted left and right, and she replied casually, "I'm looking to see if I can catch a weasel nearby so I can roast it and

eat it."

Wuyue remembered the countless large rats that had swarmed out from under her eldest sister's bed that night, and couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine. She remembered

jokingly asking her eldest sister if there would be rat meat in the dish. Her eldest sister had replied that there wasn't any now, but

who knew in the future? It would depend on how she behaved.

His stomach rumbled, and he swallowed hard. It seemed his older sister was right; no matter

how unwilling he was, it looked like he'd have to eat rat meat tonight. He didn't want to experience starving to death.

He hoped Harina could catch one or two!

At this time of year, weasels hibernated in their deep burrows, making them difficult to find, but experienced hunters

could easily catch them once they were found.

Harina's experience with these small animals was unparalleled. She often caught weasels to eat after herding livestock

, and with Wuyue's precious sword in hand, she was even more formidable. After a little over two quarters of an hour, she had managed to catch several,

plump and large. She twisted their tails and returned to Wuyue's side. The weasels, startled awake from their hibernation,

hopped around excitedly .

Wuyue curiously examined them, finding the weasels round and plump, not much smaller than rabbits, and far less

disgusting than her older sister's large rats. She immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Harina skillfully skinned and gutted the weasel. Finding no water nearby to wash it, she

roasted it over the fire, then sat down to share with Wuyue.

He devoured it, finding the taste incomparably delicious! He quickly finished his, and Harina handed

him another…

After eating his fill, he let out a large burp, finally regaining some strength. He looked at

the remaining roasted weasel by the fire, then at Harina, a look of embarrassment on his face.

She knew Wuyue was still worried about Qing'er in the valley, and struggled to her feet, saying, "Don't worry, I

'll go back to the valley to find her."

Wuyue tightened his grip on her hand, everything understood without words.

The waiting was unbearable. Although he had lost track of time in the cave,

judging , it must have been quite a while. He wondered if Qing'er had been captured, if she was still in the same place, and if she was also starving

.

About an hour later, Harina's faltering figure finally appeared. Her

heavy breathing could be heard from afar, clearly indicating the extreme difficulty she had overcome. He strained his eyes to see, and in the darkness, a small

figure seemed to be following behind her, drawing closer.

He exclaimed in surprise, "Qing'er, is that you?"

The petite figure rushed over, nestled beside him, and cried, "Young master, are you alright? That's

wonderful! Waaah..."

In the dim light, it was indeed her! However, her clothes were tattered and she was filthy, as if she had crawled out of

a muddy pile. If it weren't for her voice, Wuyue would hardly have recognized her. It seemed that being

a beggar had left her with little regard for cleanliness.
