[The Orphan's Love Affair with a Beauty's Rivalry] (Volume 3, Chapter 180)

Chapter 180 Taking a Risk

This was originally part of his plan, so it was true. After several loud farts, accompanied by the "poof

" sounds, a stench filled the air. He wasn't used to the local food and couldn't move around much, suffering from severe

indigestion . The stench was unbearable, even for him, and he quickly covered his nose with his hand!

Footsteps sounded behind him, and the burly man, as expected, couldn't stand the stench and retreated a considerable distance. Wu Yue

slowly moved his right hand, which had been covering his nose, upwards, gently pushing up the black cloth covering his right eye. His vision had been blurred from being blindfolded for so long, but

after blinking and focusing, he realized that it was indeed dark.

In the dim moonlight, although the scenery was blurry, he could still make out that the location

was exactly as he had predicted! He was especially fortunate that he was not far from the edge of the cliff; he estimated it to

be only three or four steps away.

He clearly remembered that when Xiao Fang saw him off, he had driven the oxcart through the Dahei

Mountain area . This place was on the mountainside of the eastern foothills of Dahei Mountain, and the sound of rushing water echoed from afar below the cliffs—

the very same deep ravine torrent he had seen before. At this moment, the snow on the mountaintop was melting, the water volume abundant, and the torrent cascaded down from the heights with

tremendous force, rushing along the deep canyon towards the southern foothills of Dahei Mountain, finally merging into the Heihe River.

It was a steep cliff; he didn't know what the consequences of rolling down it would be, but without a doubt,

Lord Li was waiting for him on the western slope! This was his last chance!

Without hesitation, he threw himself to the ground, using his hands and feet, crawling forward with all his might!

The burly man behind him, never expecting him to attempt suicide, cried out in alarm and quickly chased after him, but it was too

late; he had already tumbled down the cliff, head in his hands!

A sudden whooshing sound filled his ears as he tumbled downwards, the speed increasing rapidly. Tree trunks and rocks

slammed against his exposed back, legs, and shoulders, the pain excruciating! In a flash, a dark shadow lunged at him, growing larger and larger. He couldn't control his fall, couldn't dodge, and then with a muffled thud , everything went black, ending his agonizing

ordeal !

Perhaps

, along with it, his young life also ended?

********** ... With the hostage gone, he couldn't exchange the treasure for it to report back to Lord Yadan. Aside from that, as the leader, he knew the boy's identity. If the boy managed to escape and return to complain, Sharburg would face annihilation! If that happened, even ten heads wouldn't be enough for Lord Yadan to chop off! His men, taking advantage of his misfortune, launched a beating, leaving Yabu bruised and battered. If hadn't spent years hunting in the mountains, developing a body of steel, he probably wouldn't be able to stand after such a beating. Yabu pleaded loudly, "Lord Hagrid, please have mercy! I just heard a loud splash; that kid must have fallen into the stream. If we can find his body, we can exchange it for treasure!" Hagrid thought it made sense; time was of the essence. Why not deal with this idiot now? He led his men, hastily mounting their horses and galloping down the mountain, determined to intercept the boy, alive or to the Black River on the southern slope! This mountain path didn't follow the canyon; many sections of the cliffs made it impassable. Hagrid and his men had to retrace their steps eastward along the rugged path, then traverse forests and swamps to reach the southern foot of Black Mountain. After this rapid journey, nearly an hour had passed by the time they reached the valley entrance at the southern foot. Rest time along the way had been short, and everyone was exhausted. Night had fallen. Hagrid ordered torches lit and divided his men into two groups. One group went down along the Black River bank, while he led the other on foot into the canyon, searching upstream along the rapids, each man carrying a wooden pole, probing the water. Yabu was assigned to the group along the riverbank and searched more diligently than anyone else; if he couldn't find the boy, his head was surely on his hands and knees. The Heihe River is long, winding like a phosphorescent serpent under the moonlight, stretching over a hundred miles to the Daheihe River . However, the riverbed is only about four or five zhang wide on average, and the water isn't very deep; many sections are wide enough for horses to cross on foot. He was currently riding slowly across the river, a dozen torches illuminating the surface in a fiery red glow. The water was crystal clear ; he should be able to see anyone. He had to be especially careful in the bends and overgrown areas, stirring the water with a long pole. After searching downstream for several miles without finding anything, he grew increasingly anxious. Ahead, he heard the clatter of hooves, as if someone was riding. He whistled and led his men in hot pursuit. The person, whether terrified or something else, didn't run away. Seeing them approach, she reined in her horse, looking at them warily. In the torchlight, they saw a round-faced girl with large eyes; judging from her clothing, she was a herdsman from the western grasslands of the Yehe tribe . Yabu coldly demanded, "Who are you? Why is a young lady wandering around alone at night?" The girl gradually calmed down. She understood what he was saying and replied, "My relatives have lost a herd of horses. The whole family is searching everywhere. There are sixteen horses in total, including five foals. Have any of you gentlemen seen them? Could you please help us find them? Please, gentlemen!" She looked extremely anxious. Yabu himself was already troubled. Beautiful women were certainly lovely, and under normal circumstances, he would have been happy to be her protector. But right now, his life was more important; he had no time to help her find her horses. On the grasslands west of the Yehe tribe, from north to south, there are three major tribes: the Khalkha, the Chahan, and the Doyan. They speak a language similar to the Jurchen, but with different accents. Judging from her accent, he wasn't sure which tribe she belonged to, so he asked, "What's your name, young lady? Which tribe do you belong to?" The round-faced girl answered without hesitation, "My name is Harina, from the Doyan tribe, but my relatives are in the Chahan tribe." Yabu nodded. The Chahan tribe wasn't far from here; it was just west of the Yehe tribe's southern border. He said, "We'd be very willing to help, but right now we're in a hurry to find someone. Did you see a young man in white robes ?"

Harina's face showed disappointment, and she shook her head repeatedly, saying, "I haven't seen anyone. I've traveled so far tonight,

and besides you, I haven't seen anyone else."

Yabu said somewhat ingratiatingly, "My name is Bate Yabu, the cousin of the lord of Sharburg. Welcome, young lady, to visit the fort

. If I have the chance in the future, I must visit your home. We have urgent business to attend to now, so we'll take our leave

!"

The group behind him cheered and surrounded him as they continued searching downstream. Relying on being Yadan's cousin,

he was used to acting arrogantly, and these brothers dared not speak out against him. Just now, they had even taken advantage of Hagrid's power to give him

a good beating, and he was still in pain, not knowing how many ribs he had broken. He was eager to find an opportunity for revenge, but the law did not

punish the masses, and finding the boy was more important than anything else right now. He would deal with revenge later.

Harina rode her horse slowly in circles nearby until Yabu and the others had gone far away and disappeared from sight. Only then did she

spur her horse across the river, and after traveling several dozen paces west, she dismounted. She lifted a clump of hay on the ground,

revealing a shallow pit beneath it. There lay a man, his clothes tattered, soaking wet, and his flesh mangled

beyond recognition. In the moonlight,

his face was covered in blood and grime, unrecognizable. She took off her robe and wrapped it around his body, laboriously lifting him onto her horse. She

knelt before the saddle, then mounted, holding him in her right arm and gripping the reins with her left, and galloped westward, quickly disappearing into the darkness.

After galloping for more than ten miles, she finally

breathed her tears, her shoulders heaving as she sobbed uncontrollably. His face was ashen, and she couldn't tell if he was still breathing.

His body was frozen solid, not a single part intact; he was barely recognizable as human, and it was impossible to tell how many bones

were broken. To have even a faint heartbeat was a miracle!

Harina carried him through the night, arriving before dawn about ten miles south of the Chahan tribe. Near the sinkhole,

they found a cave entrance hidden among vines and weeds on a steep slope. She dismounted,

carefully lifted Wuyue down, parted the vines to place him in the cave, removed all the horse tack, drove the horse away to graze, then

dragged the tack into the cave and covered him with vines again.

His injuries were too severe; she had no idea if he would survive. Unable to continue,

she could only find a place to hide him and assess his condition.

As a grassland girl, she knew a little about the properties of herbs. She collected some along the way and carried Wuyue through

the cave in the dark. After five or six turns, having probably gone dozens of feet into the cave, she put him down, lit a campfire, and warmed his body. Then she took off her tattered clothes and applied chewed herbs

to his wounds . However, she didn't know how to examine broken bones, let alone how to set them. If all else failed, she would have to risk taking him back to the Duoyan tribe to find Old Tuban to treat him. After preparing him, she covered him with her robe and, holding a torch, continued downwards into the depths of the cave. Some places were narrow, and she had to crawl through them. Not far after passing a fork in the road, the terrain began to slope slightly upwards, and a shallow stream of water still flowed slowly through the underground channel. She filled her leather bag with water and returned to Wuyue's side, cleaning the bloodstains from his body and face. After making five trips back and forth, she finally had enough clean water to completely wipe away the bloodstains. After a night of turmoil, she was utterly exhausted . She lay down beside Wuyue, gently embracing him, their chests pressed tightly together, heart to heart, constantly checking if he still had a heartbeat .
