Alibuda Chronicles, Part 1: Volume 4, Chapter 7

Chapter Seven: Unforgivable Sins

Regardless of the classification, magic is essentially a technique that resonates with the external world using one's own energy, utilizing external energy sources.

To borrow something, a contract is required; this applies to borrowing money from a bank or using magic.

Light and dark magic borrow power from gods, beast magic requires a blood oath with a beast demon, and wind and fire magic involves a contract with elemental spirits… No matter the type, this procedure is unavoidable.

To learn holy magic, one must first form a contract with a god. Considering the abilities of beginners, finding some ordinary minor gods is sufficient. High gods have too many followers; if too many people pray simultaneously, beginners with shallow spiritual power will likely borrow nothing, and gods are also very busy.

Fang Qingshu was initially reluctant to accept Ah Xue's request to learn. Because Ah Xue already had a master, he was unwilling to violate the orthodox path without my consent. However, due to Neon's strong recommendation and Ah Xue's persistent request, after several days of pleading, he reluctantly agreed to teach some introductory techniques of holy magic.

A suitable time was chosen, and Ah Xue was instructed to fast and bathe beforehand. At noon, Fang Qingshu helped Ah Xue open her spiritual aperture, praying and making a pact with the God of Light to formally begin her cultivation.

Opening the spiritual aperture is a very sacred matter; in the Palace of Light, only recognized high monks can perform this ceremony. Fang Qingshu's ability to open someone's spiritual aperture demonstrates his considerable skill in sacred magic.

Many people attended the ceremony. Besides Ni Hong and Mao Yan'an, even many members of the Feather Clan were present to witness this rare sacred ceremony in the Southern Barbarian Lands, and also to catch a few extra glances at the handsome man performing the ceremony.

I didn't go. Everyone thought I was jealous, which was true, but my main calculation was that I didn't want anyone to see my expression if something went wrong. Mao Yan'an and Fang Qingshu, master and disciple, were both extremely shrewd and insightful. If they guessed anything, it would be very disadvantageous for me.

Everything went smoothly. Just as I finished my tea in the room, several terrified female warriors of the Feathered Clan rushed in, telling me that Ah Xue was in trouble.

"What? Take me there immediately!"

I slammed the teacup down on the table and rushed out, my panic evident. Only I knew that my hands were trembling the moment I placed the teacup on the table, because I was genuinely worried that it wasn't them who had come, but Tianhe Xueqiong, who had come to take my head.

In the medical room, Ah Xue, though still unconscious after being treated with a restorative spell, was no longer in serious condition. According to Neon's account, Ah Xue was kneeling and listening to scriptures, letting the holy light transformed from sunlight cleanse her body and mind. Just as her spiritual aperture was about to open, she suddenly collapsed in agony.

Although she forced herself not to cry out, those who rushed to her side could feel her extreme pain. Her lips were bleeding from being bitten so hard, and her delicate skin was cracking. Yet, Ah Xue refused to give up, determined to overcome this ordeal through sheer willpower, ultimately fainting from the pain.

Fang Qingshu immediately used a healing spell, but the others exchanged bewildered glances. Opening a spiritual aperture wasn't a dangerous spell, nor did it cause any pain. Ah Xue's intense rejection was unheard of.

The only possible reason, recorded only in ancient texts, was that in a past life or among her ancestors, she was a heinous criminal, committing countless acts that aroused the wrath of both heaven and man. Even after death, she was cursed by the gods, forever unforgivable, excluded from paradise, and unable to cultivate sacred magic, as no deity would willingly form a pact with her.

Could the kind, gentle, and sincere Ah Xue be such a sinner? Everyone was incredulous, but the facts were undeniable. The intense rejection reaction during the spiritual awakening was more convincing than anything else, and for a moment, everyone felt uneasy.

"Please leave. I want to be alone with Xue."

As Xue's master, I was the most qualified to say this. After confirming that Xue was alright, I felt a complex mix of relief and relief that I had resolved the issue.

The way the spiritual awakening turned out had nothing to do with past lives or ancestors; otherwise, how could Tianhe Xueqiong possess such powerful light magic? The rejection reaction was simply because the night before the awakening, Xue had come to me again, hoping for my promise and blessing. Although I didn't agree, I dragged out my response.

Talking too much makes one thirsty, and without me offering tea, Xue poured herself a cup and drank the entire pot of tea on the table, along with the herbs mixed in. I don't really know what those herbs were; they seemed to be some kind of compound magical potion. When the potion took effect in her body, it would trigger the powerful force that originally belonged to Tianhe Xueqiong within Ah Xue, forming a seal that repelled all light magic power entering her body, turning her into what she is now.

And this is my first wish: to ensure that Ah Xue can never betray me! Never escape from my side!

I signed a contract with Phoenix, selling my soul in exchange for her granting me five wishes. The first one used is today's result.

Generally speaking, although there were some minor flaws, it was still satisfactory. Phoenix also said that to ensure the first wish could be properly implemented, she could provide some additional services, but before that, she had to provide the originally agreed-upon preferential service: letting me practice the basics of peerless martial arts…

She always leaves things unsaid, like an unscrupulous merchant who promises a full refund if the goods are not good, but always makes excuses when it comes to returning them. However, since it's a deal with demons anyway, I didn't have much expectation of their integrity. It was good enough that they hadn't deliberately forgotten.

"Don't joke around. We also hope our clients are safe and live long lives. If you die suddenly, we won't be able to obtain your complete soul, right? So making you stronger will make it easier for you to survive, which is also beneficial to us."

Even a three-year-old wouldn't believe this. If I could truly live to be a hundred, the person who would most want me dead, besides Tianhe Xueqiong, would definitely be you, this female demon. If I don't die, how can you get my soul?"

"If you're going to practice, practice the best. The martial arts of the five strongest in the human world—I doubt you're interested in your family's skills; I'm a demon, I can't teach you the Zen Divine Skill of the Heart Seal Nun; the Black Dragon Society and Dragon God Clan martial arts—if you learn them, it'll be harder to explain to your Dragon Girl sister later. Considering your current situation, the Beast King Fist of the Ten Thousand Beasts Venerable is your best choice."

She said everything, as if she were so concerned for me. I didn't believe a word of it, but there was no need to say it.

"I don't want to practice martial arts." "

Don't look down on her. Do you even need to practice martial arts? If we can't let our clients get rich quick and achieve instant success, then what's the point of us demons? Get some rest, wait for my good news, bye!"

With a flippant farewell, I woke up from my dream. Every meeting with Phoenix was like this; the moment she disappeared, I woke up immediately, as if everything that had just happened was an illusion. But the magic potion on the table and the brand-new book proved I wasn't dreaming.

The effect was successful. I knew that although she didn't object outwardly, Xue had never given up in her heart. Unwilling to kill, she had always hoped to learn sacred magic that could heal living beings and bring happiness to those around her. But after this incident, no matter how much she insisted, she had to give up.

Everything was just as expected. After waking up, Xue threw herself into my arms and cried uncontrollably.

Although she was unconscious from the intense pain, she heard all the whispers and speculations about why she had a rejection reaction.

These words dealt a severe blow to Ah Xue, especially since she had no memory of her past. Even if she appeared indifferent on the surface, she was often secretly heartbroken. Now, being suspected of her past life, of possibly committing countless heinous acts, the sorrow in her heart was unimaginable.

"Master...Master, I...am I..."

Ah Xue sobbed uncontrollably, tears soaking my clothes, like a helpless child, letting sorrow and helplessness flow with her tears.

"Don't cry, don't cry, Ah Xue, no matter what you become, Master is here, Master will always love you. You are my...silly little Ah Xue."

Gently patting her back, I softly comforted her, giving her what she needed most at that moment. If I'm not mistaken, this incident would isolate Ah Xue like I have, and my willingness to open my arms to her would once again win her admiration.

Everything happened just as I predicted. It wasn't that I was a genius; it's just that people act too much according to so-called conventions and common sense.

The Feathered Clan, descendants of angels, have always held themselves in high esteem. Despite being half-beasts, they disdain associating with the wicked, which is precisely why their relationship with the various beast clans of the Southern Barbarians has become so strained. Previously, Fang Qingshu was close to Ah Xue because of her good character, her saintly kindness. But after this incident, Ah Xue was tainted with a huge stain, categorized as a villain. Suddenly, she was surrounded by cold isolation; the Feathered Clan female warriors who used to fawn over her now kept their distance. The

same was true for Yu Ni and Yu Hong. Born into the Cihang Jingdian Palace, working as patrol officers fighting against the wicked, their sense of justice was ten times stronger than the average person. How could they not have their own prejudices and distinctions between good and evil? They were the ones who strongly recommended Ah Xue to Fang Qingshu in the first place; now that this problem had arisen, their displeasure was unimaginable.

Several times, Ah Xue tried to talk to them, to share her inner turmoil, but each time Yu Ni spoke first, politely but coldly refusing her, just like when they first met. Seeing this, I couldn't help but chuckle, because if I tried to talk to the two sisters when they were finally alone, wanting to have a secret tryst, even Fang Qingshu would probably kick them out.

"Master, why won't they talk to me? Weren't we good friends?"

Ah Xue's eyes were red; she looked like she'd cried many times. In just two or three days, she looked much more haggard and thinner, clearly these changes had greatly affected her.

I stroked her hair, gently comforting her, trying to coax her into a smile through her tears, but I didn't tell her my true feelings.

Often, people are so petty and superficial. Because of differences in their positions, they are blinded by false appearances, failing to pay attention to the truth behind the surface. Even if Ah Xue truly had an evil past life, even if she was truly a cursed child of sin, so what? Her kindness and innocence—aren't these the most genuine things?

A truth even a three-year-old understands, yet these scions of noble families from the Palace of Light are unable to unravel this intractable knot—it's utterly laughable. I'm not surprised; in fact, I could say I should thank them. If it weren't for so many fools like them in the world, I would have been naturally eliminated long ago.

Everything seemed to have returned to square one, back to the days of me, Ah Xue, and Violet, loving each other dearly. But now there was another person, Mao Yan'an. This uncle didn't seem to care at all about the accident that day, and he came over to visit all the time. The

Feather Clan treated him as one of our fellow travelers, not finding it strange. Fang Qingshu, on the other hand, maintained a friendly attitude towards Ah Xue, often wanting to talk to her and offer her some comfort, but he was too busy with so many people that it wasn't easy for him to approach us marginalized individuals.

Ah Xue, feeling ashamed because of the attitudes of Neon and the other Feather Clan members, would shy away like a frightened rabbit whenever Fang Qingshu approached, greatly reducing their chances of conversation.

Of course, I was secretly amused by this situation. However, while the outcome was satisfying, the thought of the price I had paid and the contract I had made with Phoenix made my heart sink.

Perhaps I could console myself with the thought that making only one wish, or even four, didn't matter, as long as I didn't make the last wish, the contract would be ineffective. But I wasn't that naive, because with Phoenix's cunning, how could she not have thought of this? I could foresee that in the future, she would definitely try every means to force me to make a wish.

The outcome was uncertain, so I could only take it one step at a time.

Putting aside these worries, we did obtain a very important piece of information from Mao Yan'an.

In the central hall of Skeva Tower City, there was a large sun mirror without a mirror. I knew at a glance that it was a very high-level antique, and definitely an extraordinary magical artifact, but because I didn't know much about it, I couldn't identify its origin and could only shrug.

As a result, thanks to Uncle Mao, during a casual conversation with us, we learned about its origin.

"Hey, don't underestimate that big antique. It's got history. I never expected it to fall into the hands of the Feathered Clan. If word gets out, all the beast tribes of the Southern Barbarians will definitely send troops to snatch it... No, it might even be because they want to seize the treasure that the Fire Worship Cult sent troops."

Because of my brutality that day, I almost strangled his neck to the thinness of a chopstick. Mao Yan'an was still wearing a heavy neck brace, looking quite comical.

"What's its origin? Why is it so amazing?"

Knowing that this old guy was indeed very knowledgeable, although I secretly found it amusing, I still humbly asked him for his knowledge.

"If it's an ancient antique, then although it's precious, it's not that amazing. This Great Sun Mirror, it's said that no one, no technology, can determine when it was completed."

Mao Yan'an laughed, "Those who study magic know a little about it, right? It's one of the seven sacred artifacts left behind by the Creator in legend."

My heart skipped a beat. I really didn't expect that heavy mirror stand to have such an origin.

Anyone familiar with magic has undoubtedly heard of the "Seven Sacred Relics of Creation." Legend has it that the Chaos God, who created the world, left seven sacred relics behind after the creation was complete, which were then scattered among mortals.

Each possesses unique abilities and is imbued with the Chaos God's aura, making the Seven Sacred Relics incomparably precious among treasures—truly the most precious of treasures. Their names appear in numerous epics and myths, representing supreme glory and power, associated with heroes and sages, and serving as supreme weapons against evil.

Because of their unique existence, treasure merchants worldwide are eager to acquire them, hoping to prove themselves as the world's greatest treasure collectors. Some learned scholars even dedicate their lives to finding the Seven Sacred Relics, investing countless hours and effort, yet all remain unsuccessful. In fact, let alone the whereabouts of the Seven Sacred Artifacts, even the exact identities of these seven artifacts are subject to much debate, with no definitive answer.

Several years ago, two factions of scholars in the Cihang Jingdian even attacked each other, arguing that the Seven Sacred Artifacts never existed and that the legends were merely fabrications. This led to a fierce argument.

I've heard these rumors, but since they don't concern me, I don't dwell on them. However, hearing Mao Yan'an say this, could it be that the legend of the Seven Sacred Artifacts is not only true, but that heavy, bulky mirror platform is actually one of them?

"Hey? Really? That thing doesn't seem that powerful. A bulky, heavy mirror platform—could it be one of the Seven Sacred Artifacts of Creation?"

"I'm absolutely not lying to you. I was initially hesitant to believe it myself, but after looking at it several times, the characteristics of that mirror platform are exactly the same as one of the Seven Sacred Artifacts recorded in the books, the Great Sun Mirror. That's why I'm certain. Qing Shu recognized it too, didn't he? It's because both of them were certain that it was confirmed."

Mao Yan'an said, "It's a pity that the Great Sun Mirror in the Feather Clan's possession is incomplete, lacking the most important mirror surface, making it unusable. Otherwise, even with such a disparity in strength, having such a mythical artifact would certainly be helpful."

This was a bit of an exaggeration, but I basically agreed. As the name suggests, the Great Sun Mirror must be a light-attribute artifact, capable of unleashing the vast, sun-like light energy during operation. It has purifying and cleansing effects on various dark-attribute magics, making it a coveted top-tier magical artifact. If we could use it, we wouldn't have to fear some of the Zoroastrian spells.

Ah Xue, holding Violet beside her, said, "But that mirror stand is huge! I wonder how we'd actually use it?"

Indeed, the Great Sun Mirror was quite large, made of metal, and heavy and difficult to move. It would probably require at least ten people to move it; one or two people alone couldn't operate it in battle.

"The Great Sun Mirror has no mirror surface, so its specific power can only be imagined and cannot be actually deduced. But there's another secret, which I think you don't know, Brother John."

As we became more familiar, this old guy didn't even use the title of "Admiral" anymore, directly addressing me as a brother.

"What secret? Were you and your apprentice once lovers?"

Perhaps my counterattack was too venomous, because Mao Yan'an's expression looked like he had just inhaled poison gas. However, this cunning fellow was also unusual, saying, "Uh, so you're not interested in the news about the Staff of the Saint? Well then, it's about time, let's go eat together."

"Wait, what did you say?"

Startled, I hurriedly grabbed him and cautiously inquired.

Although I had already sent the magic lamp back, after all, I had been ordered to find the Staff of the Saint. If His Majesty the King insisted, then I wouldn't be able to return home until I obtained the Staff of the Saint.

When I first received the order, I thought the Staff of the Saint was just a walking stick once used by some famous person. However, after wandering around for a long time and learning about the market for various treasures, I realized that things were not so simple. The Staff of the Saint also seemed to be some kind of legendary sacred object, appearing in many historical poems that were half true and half false, but when asked about its exact appearance and origin, there was no definite answer, and no one even knew if it really existed.

"You mentioned the Seven Sacred Artifacts of Creation, could it be..."

"You guessed right. There are actually many versions of what the Seven Sacred Artifacts of Creation are, because many royal families, in order to enhance their prestige, would boast that their national treasures were among the Seven Sacred Artifacts of Creation. But in most versions, the Staff of the Saint is included. I have also searched for the traces of the Seven Sacred Artifacts and done a lot of research. As for the last place the Staff of the Saint appeared, it was in..."

I didn't give him a chance to keep me in suspense, and said directly, "Stop rambling and tell me the truth."

"Alright, the last time the Staff of the Saint appeared was two hundred years ago, during a war in the Southern Barbarians."

Mao Yan'an said, "After that, the Staff of the Saint disappeared. But think about it, if the Great Sun Mirror appeared in the hands of the Feathered Clan, then wouldn't the Staff of the Saint also..."

This was indeed a very reasonable suspicion, but it wouldn't be easy to verify. Did I have to directly ask Katrina if the Staff of the Saint was in her possession? And if she could give it to me?

Given our current relationship with the Feathered Clan, even if I asked her, she might not tell me; and even if she did, I probably wouldn't believe her. Without investigating secretly, there's likely no way to get any results.
