Alibuda Chronicles Part 2: Volume 1, Chapter 5

Chapter Five: Deceit and Intrigue

"Wow! General Farrell, how did you get so badly injured? It's not wartime, how did you get like this?"

"Although it's not wartime, there are still enemies living in Sara City. Yesterday, on my way back, suddenly more than a hundred people rushed out from the alleys..."

"More than a hundred?"

"Yes, I fought more than a hundred by myself. Although I'm confident in my martial arts skills and kind heart, a mage is not someone to be trifled with. In the end, I ended up like this." "

Did I hear you right? You just said... a mage?"

"What? Did I say a mage? No, how could I say that? You must have misheard."

The not-so-clever hint, combined with my heavily bandaged appearance and the red paint smeared on the bandages, quickly spread the news of my attack by thugs last night throughout the venue. Although I sat quietly in my seat after arriving at the venue and didn't speak to anyone, the dozens of representatives from the participating nations were all whispering amongst themselves, naturally pointing the finger at Ishtar.

Publicly, I stated that I was merely attacked by thugs, not involved in any conspiracy. I didn't utter a single word about Ishtar, and no one condemned Ishtar for doing anything wrong. However, the feeling of being the center of attention and the focus of everyone

's gaze must have been unpleasant. Ryan, who chaired the meeting, first expressed his condolences, then continued the negotiations that had stalled in the previous days.

The group of envoys present included representatives from dozens of nations, races, and tribes across the land, but only five nations truly had the power to influence the meeting's direction: the Golden Flower Federation, Ishtar, Alibuda, Solancia, and Rosetta.

The Golden Flower Federation and our country are both human nations, sharing similar cultures, ideologies, and religious beliefs influenced by the Cihang Jingdian Temple. In international affairs, they have long acted like an elder brother and younger brother, sharing the same stance.

Ishtar, this desert nation, although also a human nation, has a religious and cultural origin that runs counter to ours. We dislike each other, and coupled with territorial disputes, we have naturally become mortal enemies.

Solancia, composed of various elves, possessed an arrogant and aloof personality, and looked down upon all other races. Their religious beliefs were based on the worship of natural things and elements, a kind of fetishism. Although their gods differed from ours, they still revered the beautiful and bright aspects. Originally, there was no reason for them to ally with Ishtar. However, the principle of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" applies to all races.

Because Alibuda adopted a policy of friendship with the Plantagenet Federation to suppress Solancia, which was located between the two countries, these elves, after suffering repeated setbacks at the hands of humans, maintained their ridiculous dignity while secretly seeking allies. In the end, they formed a completely uncooperative and unethical alliance with Ishtar, whom they disliked.

If the alliance of interests between the elves and the wizards was a farce, then the dwarven kingdom of Rosetta watched it all with a detached, indifferent attitude, not wanting to be drawn in.

It was neither a desert like Ishtar nor a primeval forest inhabited by the southern barbarian orcs. Rosetta's terrain consisted of plateaus, covered in lush wild grass, with unpredictable weather and extremely thin air. Less than two-tenths of Rosetta's population lived on this boundless expanse; the remaining eight-tenths resided in countless underground tunnels, truly cave dwellers. The

Rosetta dwarves harbored no goodwill towards humans or elves, but neither did they harbor any particular hatred. Rough and passionate, they looked down upon the arrogant inhabitants of Solancia, yet they were equally wary of humans' cunning and deceit. Perhaps, barbarically, the southern barbarian orcs could be reasoned with, provided the orcs forgot their purpose of burning, killing, and raping…

In past international diplomatic incidents, the Golden Flower Federation sided with us, and Ishtar and Solancia joined forces; Rosetta, as usual, laughed heartily at the farces. After this standoff lasted for a while, the Golden Flower Federation would either try to win over Rosetta or reach a deal with either Ishtar or Solancia to resolve the issue.

Ishtar was usually the easier target, as these people were driven by self-interest; given enough benefits, they would immediately betray their former allies. However, after being betrayed several times, the proud elves learned to soften their stance, as seen in several incidents a couple of years ago where Solancia preemptively compromised with the Golden Flower Federation, turning the tables on Ishtar. The term "shameful alliance without any tacit understanding or moral foundation" wasn't without merit. This time was

no different; as Ishtar and the Golden Flower Federation argued, various behind-the-scenes deals and negotiations began. Since it concerned crucial military matters—a single word could make or break a nation—Solancia and Rosetta were making exorbitant demands, regardless of the Black Dragon's reaction; they just wanted to secure their gains first.

Ryan couldn't readily agree. Mao Yan'an analyzed for me that Ryan was about to step down, and the succeeding president might not approve of him. If the terms offered were too generous, he might be impeached and impeached by his successor as a political achievement.

It was estimated that for a period of time, the major powers would test each other's bottom lines in trade, seeking to maximize their gains in the meeting. Until then

, unless there were special changes, the meeting would not make any progress. The elves of Solancia not only held their heads high but also had huge appetites. They privately made a request: to bring back the renowned elven craftsman temporarily residing in Alibuda.

The elven craftsman, their compatriot, was none other than Zhizhi. Since Zhizhi began producing works in Sara and rose to fame, becoming a new generation of master blacksmiths, her elven blood had become widely known, even reaching Solancia. The elves of Solancia had essentially found the most legitimate reason to bring back a skilled craftsman.

"If they have one more, we have one less. This matter concerns the balance of national military power; how can we agree to it so easily?" Moreover, the envoy from Solancia probably didn't expect that Leng Linglan would immediately change her attitude upon hearing their request, dismissing these proud elves and refusing to speak.

Arranging for Zhizhi to attach herself to Leng Linglan was indeed the right decision. Otherwise, a girl with no background and only talent would have long been swallowed up by the ugly power struggles.

Mao Yan'an learned this information from Ryan and then told me during the meeting. Meanwhile, Narcissa and Ryan's discussion was reaching a fever pitch.

Narcissa believed that forming an international alliance was indeed necessary, but Ryan would step down in less than six months. No one could guarantee the Golden Flower Federation's stance at that time, so the Golden Flower Federation shouldn't take the lead. Unexpectedly

, Ryan was the first to agree, saying he couldn't guarantee the political leanings of the next president, so the Golden Flower Federation shouldn't be the one to lead the alliance.

When Ryan said this, Narcissa seemed somewhat stunned, as if she couldn't understand why he was helping her so much. However, a look of realization and regret immediately flashed in her eyes, perfectly matching the second half of Ryan's words.

"However, the Golden Flower Federation will change presidents, but the Palace of Light will not change its leader. Therefore, I advocate that the Palace of Light should lead this alliance. The Golden Flower Federation will not make decisions that contradict the Palace of Light. My visit this time is also supported by the Heart Zen Sect Leader. Once a decision is made, the Palace of Light and the Golden Flower Federation will ensure the continuation of the meeting's outcomes."

The relationship between the Golden Flower Federation and the Palace of Light is essentially two sides of the same coin. Ryan's actions were a strategic retreat, abandoning the superficial interests of the Golden Flower Federation and using the Palace of Light as a pretext to gain influence.

The Palace of Light's influence transcends international and racial boundaries. Even Solancia, which worships different gods, and the remote Rosetta, have received the Palace of Light's favor more than once in history. Revealing the name of the Temple of Light is tantamount to carrying a sacred tablet that cannot be profaned. Even though Narcissus was resentful, she had to be careful with her words.

However, although it seems like a consensus has been reached, this is only on the surface. Before the behind-the-scenes deals are finalized, there won't be much progress. It's just that Ryan is indeed using various circumstances to gradually force his opponent into his desired position. Progress is slow, but I believe they will reach their destination soon.

But what I didn't expect was that Narcissa would actively find fault with me at this time, as a counterattack against us.

"The fact that you can unite all the nations of the land against a common enemy truly moves me, but I suspect that Alibuda is secretly plotting something unsettling."

Make the Ishtar people uneasy? I must admire my own greatness, but Narcissa went on to say that since entering Sara City, they had sensed something was wrong, and later discovered that a great wizard was hiding within Sara City.

It's common knowledge that Alibuda didn't develop black magic. If this high priest wasn't from Ishtar, then the most reasonable inference is…

"We suspect that Alibuda… or some people within Alibuda, are secretly colluding with the Black Dragon Society, intending to commit treacherous acts."

This statement caused an uproar, but I alone felt a chill run down my spine, secretly groaning, guessing what Narcissa was about to say.

Sure enough, when people inquired about the priest's whereabouts, Narcissa stated that Ishtar's priests had been tracking him for several days and had finally made a discovery.

"Actually, even I don't want to believe it myself, but this high priest of the Black Dragon Society is actually hiding in the prestigious Earl Farrell's mansion."

Narcissa's accusations were truly insidious and vicious, and her twisted logic almost left me speechless. Fortunately, I quickly recovered and stood up to retort.

"If such a thing were true, why didn't you say so when you first entered Sara? Now you're spouting nonsense, saying whatever you want. You insist on falsely accusing me of harboring the Black Dragon Society's Grand Wizard, but why don't you say the Black Dragon King is currently washing dishes and doing housework in my house?"

Completely opposite to what Narcissus had just said, my remark elicited a burst of laughter from the entire room. The particularly comical Rosetta envoy, twitching his long beard, even threw his obese body off his chair amidst the laughter.

Narcissus, being a foreigner, understood that in such matters, the most important thing was the attitude of her own people.

If it had been Ryan who was accused, I might have been arrested on the spot by His Majesty the King; however, with Narcissus involved, His Majesty displayed a rare firmness, angrily rebuking me, saying there was absolutely no such thing… especially after Ryan also expressed his support for me.

Ryan publicly stated that he believed in my and Alibuda's innocence, and further defended me, saying that I had exposed the Black Dragon Society's conspiracy, making them hate me to the core; how could I possibly collude with them again? However, he also promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The meeting adjourned under these circumstances. After everyone left, His Majesty the King approached Ryan, but Ryan turned back to Hugh Chu to exchange pleasantries and walked towards me.

“Ah, President Ryan, thank you for today…”

“You’re welcome. I was just stating what I needed to say from my perspective.”

“I hope this won’t cause you any trouble.”

“How could it?”

Ryan smiled gently and said, “I believe you haven’t colluded with the Black Dragon Society. Since you have a clear conscience, and the Ishtar people have no evidence, it’s purely a false accusation. How could there be any trouble? Unless you have something to hide, and you really have a Beastmaster washing dishes and doing housework in your house, hahaha…” After Ryan

finished speaking, all the ministers from various countries surrounding us laughed along. I could only manage a few dry laughs. There were too many people around, and besides, I dared not tell him that although I hadn’t colluded with the Black Dragon Society, I did indeed have a great wizard practicing dark magic in my house.

Afterwards, everyone dispersed. Ryan went to handle diplomatic affairs and attend the state banquet that night. He is, after all, the head of state, and I am not worthy to associate with him. It is best to speak less in public.

When the crowd dispersed, Mao Yan'an suddenly handed me a note with strange words written on it.

"A monk carries soup up a pagoda, the pagoda is slippery, the soup spills, and the soup scalds the pagoda."

I couldn't understand the strange Zen riddle, so I followed him away to a secluded place at the back.

"It seems we went too far."

After confirming that no one was around, Mao Yan'an leaned closer and whispered, "Princess Yueying heard that you were seriously injured and is very worried. She just said that you should not wander around after returning to the manor, and that she would come to visit you personally... Hey, isn't this a bad idea? If the Moon Soup collided with the Snow Soup, and the two bowls broke together, then even if you summoned the Black Dragon King to wash the dishes, it wouldn't be enough to save you."

Compared to Narcissus's accusation earlier, the uncle's words sent chills down my spine. I couldn't imagine the scene of those two expensive tonic soups colliding.

"And today you fell for that witch's trick, causing Ryan's death..."

"What?"

I was stunned for a moment, about to ask again, when a deep, sexy voice came from behind me.

"I didn't realize General Farrell and Mr. Oren had such a good relationship, whispering in this secluded place. Could it be... that besides being loyal brothers, you two are also comrades who play dirty tricks on each other?"

Lately, I don't know what's wrong with me, I keep hearing this jarring term. Is another circle beckoning me? What's even more infuriating is that when I turned my head to look at my "good brother," he had already silently run ten feet away and disappeared in a flash.

The uncle had vanished, so of course I had no reason to linger. But when I tried to slip away, Narcissa stopped me, saying that since I could communicate with Oren privately, why did I hide from her as soon as I saw her?

"I don't think we have anything to say. We're sworn enemies. I've killed tens of thousands of your compatriots on the battlefield. What else is there to say?"

Despite my direct confrontation, Narcissa didn't seem angry at all. She smiled faintly, alluring and sexy, and said softly in her captivating voice, "Our hatred is a matter of faction affiliation, not personal grudges. As for the tens of thousands you killed… ha, those worthless trash who met their end at the hands of others, nothing but pigs and dogs. Don't worry about them, and don't let these worthless things hinder our chance to get to know each other."

Shameless bitch, acting like nothing happened. Even if I forgot you're from Ishtar, do you think I'd forget the shameful thing you did last night, chasing me to my doorstep and almost killing me?

"Give…give what?"

I didn't want to openly confront her here, otherwise, if she suddenly attacked me, I'd die without even knowing why. So, while trying to gain some verbal advantage, I looked for an opportunity to leave. But Narcissa actually moved closer, her fragrant breath making my ear burn.

He wanted to refuse, but he was too close to Narcissa. While avoiding her gaze, he naturally glanced down and saw a breathtaking sight.

Two full breasts dominated her chest with her short, thin tank top, even pushing out the red lace trim of her close-fitting red bra, making her look incredibly alluring. A knife-shaped platinum ornament, suspended by a black rope, dangled from her pink neck, swaying in the deep cleavage, both sexy and chilling…

“We in Ishtar value heroes and great men the most. How could Alibuda possibly allow a genius like you to display your talents? If you’re willing to consider joining Ishtar, then… talk, confide in us, we can talk about anything you want.”

What a filthy bitch, she actually poached someone from here! Of course, I don't deny that I felt a little smug for a moment, because I had actually become an important person who would be noticed and poached by other countries. I felt a little smug. However, I quickly realized that if I defected and immigrated now, and actually went to Ishtar, the most likely outcome would be that I would be chopped up and fed to the dogs.

"Don't give me that. My Farrell family has been loyal for three generations, a prestigious family in Alibuda. We would never be bought off by you Ishtar people."

"That day in the alley, you used magic to defend against my men. Why would a descendant of the prestigious Farrell family know magic? Who is the dark mage you're hiding? Why does he know Ishtar's secret spells? Don't think you can keep your mouth shut. We've already started investigating. Under our surveillance network, there are no secrets in the world. Being exposed is only a matter of time." "

Oh? Then go ahead and investigate. It would be best if you investigated thoroughly and found nothing. If you could also find out he died far from home, that would be even better."

"Heh, you're not very capable, but you've got guts. Do you know that with just a flick of my little finger, John Farrell will be gone from this world?"

"Do as you please, but don't forget, all the dozens of nations present today know you attempted to assassinate me yesterday. If I suddenly die, do you think Ishtar can escape responsibility?"

After a round of verbal sparring, Narcissus's alluring figure, though still radiating a fiery charm, instantly turned cold, chilling one to the bone.

"Don't be so smug. All the dozens of nations heard it today: the President of the Golden Flower Federation vouched for you. What do you think will happen if we find the wizard behind you?"

Before Narcissus disappeared, her silvery laughter was still melodious, but it filled me with an ominous feeling. I finally understood what the old man meant. If Ah Xue was found, Ishtar would accuse Alibuda... and even the Golden Flower Federation of trying to conceal their secret collusion with the Black Dragon Society. Even if Ryan could clear his name, a political storm would be inevitable.

But what good would it do to know? Could I possibly go and warn Ryan, demanding he find a way to settle Ah Xue for me first, and then ask him why the Holy Maiden of Cihang Jingdian is staying at my house? If I did that, I'd be finished before he even steps down.

"This is troublesome. If I don't want to let myself down, I'll just have to let others down first… Oh no, it's more important to deal with the monks who are serving soup at the pagoda first…"

Ignoring my bandaged appearance and heavily injured look, I rushed out of the meeting hall, grabbed a horse, and galloped back to the Duke's mansion. I was frantic, terrified that Yueying would see Ah Xue and cause trouble. I almost fell off my horse, practically being dragged along, until I reached the mansion gate, where I stopped right in front of Yueying's carriage.

On the surface, Yueying and I have a childhood friendship, and I've recently been her security chief. Now that I'm injured, it's only natural that she'd come to visit. But the true depth of our relationship is known only to us.

Using the excuse that the Earl's mansion was under renovation, I sternly ordered the caravan to turn back to the inn, while I rode in the same carriage as the First Lady as a security guard.

"Sister, I'm actually not injured. I'm sorry for scaring you."

Inside the carriage, I hurriedly apologized, but Yueying showed no sign of worry, only a faint smile.

"I already knew. You lazy brat, if you were really seriously injured, you would have been lying at home lazing around. How come you're still so energetic, running around everywhere? These red marks on your bandages, are they rum? Or ketchup? The color is quite bright..."

"The ones inside are rum, but the ones on the outside are blood. I was rushing over and accidentally got dragged by the horse for a while, so I got some scrapes..."

Hearing me say this, Yueying exclaimed, took out a snow-white handkerchief from her bosom, and helped me wipe my wounds, removing the bloodstains. There was some worry between her brows, but she was very calm, gently wiping as she softly scolded me for not taking care of my body.

It's funny, really. I've had a few intimate encounters with Yueying, and she's even been willing to have a secret affair with me. Yet, her attitude towards me is often like an older sister to a mischievous younger brother, which makes me feel both warm and a little embarrassed.

That being said, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Take being injured, for example. Having a confidante who will worry and shed tears for you when you're hurt, showing genuine affection, is certainly every man's dream. But having another mature older sister who can be gentle and calm when you're injured, bandaging your wounds and wiping away your sweat, is another rare and precious thing.

The only regret is that I haven't had the fortune to appreciate both of these different kinds of charm yet. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had to rush back from the event, lest Yueying discover that I, her adulterer, am secretly keeping another mistress in her house, leading to a dramatic scene of spilled soup and broken bowls.

"...You're already so old, yet you still act so recklessly. Things can be done slowly. Why did you rush back like that? With your mischievousness, which girl will marry you in the future? You'll be in for a world of trouble."

Hearing this, my heart stirred. I looked at Yueying and saw her focused, wiping my bloodstains and sweat with a handkerchief, seemingly oblivious to what she had just said.

"Sister, you'll be my wife. I don't want any other girl but you."

I laughed and somewhat forcefully pulled her into a hug, not letting Yueying break free, and wrapped my arms around her slender waist. She tried to push me away a few times, but failed. She let me hold her, still wiping my body with her hands, and sighed softly, "Didn't we agree? I'll only be your secret lover, I won't divorce my husband, and I can't be with you."

I hadn't forgotten that agreement, but if I said I would keep it, I'd be laughing my head off. However, there was no need to argue with Yueying now. I used my strength to push her down onto the soft cushion.

"Ah... I'm not finished yet."

"What's there to finish? Anyway, the bones aren't broken, just rinse it with water when we get back... Sister, I already told them not to go too fast in the carriage."

The carriage was traveling on the main road. Outside, there was the noise of soldiers clearing the way for pedestrians and people jostling to get out of the way. If you opened the door at this moment, you would definitely see a large crowd.

I chuckled softly, "It'll be quite a while before we get back to the inn. In the meantime... heh, I bet you have no idea how dangerous and exciting it is to make love in a carriage in broad daylight, surrounded by a bustling crowd."

Yueying's pretty face suddenly flushed red. She grabbed my unruly hand, stopping me from caressing her full breasts, and moved me aside, her voice soft and shy.

"You, you shouldn't do that..."

I chuckled inwardly, about to force my way in, but Yueying, her cheeks still flushed, grabbed my hand and actually reached under her skirt, lifting it up.

As the pale yellow skirt rose inch by inch, a pair of long, slender, snow-white legs were gradually revealed. Wearing high heels, they gave off an air of nobility, but also made my heart race. Especially after lifting her knees, the thin gauze panties covered in pale yellow lace, barely concealing her round, plump buttocks, were revealed. The golden pubic hair beneath the thin fabric was faintly visible, becoming the focal point of all gazes.

"You know what? Little brother, before I set off, I bathed and cleansed myself at the inn, and even applied peony-scented lotion."

Is that so? No wonder my sister smells so fragrant and intoxicating. But I always feel that the strange fragrance wafting into my nostrils isn't the scent of peonies, but rather the unique aroma of a woman's sweet nectar flowing from her vulva when she's aroused.

"I have absolutely no idea about what you just said. Aren't men strange creatures? I've never understood what's so exciting about something like that, which can be heard all the time?"

Yueying's cheeks flushed crimson, her body temperature soaring. The fragrance she exuded was like orchids and musk, seemingly shy and alluring, yet her bright eyes gleamed with a bold, provocative cunning, a coy invitation that stirred my heart, yet I was unwilling to rashly break the exquisite atmosphere.

"I'm a very conservative, old-fashioned woman who values safety. No matter how exciting, I wouldn't risk anything dangerous. But… I know something else, sister."

"What is it?"

"This carriage was specially designed for safety. I heard the sound insulation is excellent, and the shock absorption seems pretty good too. Do you… want to try it?"

More potent than any aphrodisiac, Yueying's bold words made me so excited I forgot everything. Like a ravenous wolf, I pounced on her, reveling in the unbridled pleasure of our lovemaking amidst the surrounding security personnel.
