Alibuda Chronicles Part 2: Volume 5, Chapter 6

Chapter Six: A Beauty That

Could Topple Kingdoms Originally, thanks to the prestige of the President of the Golden Flower Federation, this banquet could have passed peacefully. Nobles and high-ranking officials from various countries dared not disrespect this lord of the land, and even the king of the host country wouldn't dare challenge Ryan's authority. However, an inexperienced reporter barged in, causing everyone to lose face.

Leng Linglan immediately admitted to dereliction of duty as security guard and offered to be punished, but I didn't believe she was that foolish. Ninety-nine percent of the time, she deliberately let him in to make me suffer.

This commotion instantly made the atmosphere of the entire banquet extremely awkward. I, already a pariah, now became the object of whispers and accusations. Foreign dignitaries pointed and whispered behind my back, the translator recounting the scandals they had just heard; while my so-called "compatriots," contrary to their previous praise of my wartime achievements, were the first to isolate and despise me, as if I were the greatest national disgrace since the founding of Alibuda and should immediately commit suicide to take responsibility.

The banquet hall, though not small, felt somewhat crowded after accommodating over a hundred people. Yet, within a three-foot radius of me, there wasn't a single person—truly a striking contrast. This was what it meant to be an island in a crowd, something I hadn't anticipated before attending.

To ease the awkward atmosphere, the emcee had the band play light music and moved the ball, originally scheduled after several other events, forward, hoping to break the tension. The nobles and wealthy guests were quite tactful, inviting their female companions to join them, embracing their tightly clenched waists, and beginning to dance.

While I'm thick-skinned and have never cared about others' opinions, the heavy pressure of being criticized by so many made it impossible for me to be cheerful. The only thing that allowed me to maintain a forced smile was to go over and talk to Yueying, telling her my true feelings.

To my surprise, I had only taken one step towards Yueying when a blue blur appeared in front of me. Leng Linglan, dressed in a heroic military uniform, blocked my way, her cold eyes glaring at me with an unmistakable warning and murderous intent. She even drew her sword, disregarding the occasion, silently telling me that if I dared to harass her sister again, she would disregard appearances and reputation and kill me on the spot.

Blocked by her, I couldn't see Yueying's expression, and I couldn't risk my life, so I had to retract my step.

Lun Feier, who had been standing beside Yueying, seemed surprised by Leng Linglan's action, but then a knowing look appeared in his eyes. He smiled, bowed slightly, and invited Leng Linglan to be his dance partner for a dance.

“Beautiful Princess Linglan, I have long admired your unparalleled heroism on the battlefield. I wonder if I have the opportunity to dance with you and let this elf from a remote village witness your magnificent dance?”

If it were any other man, even if he didn’t wet his pants in fear of Leng Linglan’s gaze, he would have ruthlessly kicked him out. But Lunfeier was no ordinary man. He was both talented in literature and martial arts, and his family background and the real power he held made him someone that Alibuda needed to befriend. In the future, he would have to rely on Lunfeier to counter and suppress Ishtar. So after a slight pause, Leng Linglan raised her hand and gave a beautiful military salute, extending her hand to Lunfeier.

The couple, dressed in men's attire with their hair tied up and trousers, exuded both handsomeness and nobility. Their outstanding appearances stole the show. One was a refined and polite nobleman, and the other was a bright and beautiful princess. Both had first-class martial arts skills. Although they had not learned any dance or dance steps, their movements were naturally agile and graceful. After only a few moves, they drew cheers and applause. Even Ryan and His Majesty Leng Qiji applauded, sweeping away the gloom of the previous scandal.

(That damn elf, showing off in front of me, so arrogant? I should have not only given her a face shot, but I would have pissed on her too.)

I cursed inwardly and walked towards Yueying. Even though I knew Leng Linglan was still eyeing me covetously, I didn't care anymore. However, when Yueying saw me approaching, although she showed a look of pity and reluctance, a resolute glint suddenly flashed in her eyes. Then she got up and ran away, rushing to Ryan's side. Together with her mighty and reliable husband, they smiled as they watched the couple dancing lightly.

(Even you're like this...

Although we haven't spoken, through the exchange of our eyes, Yueying and I have said a thousand words. I can't blame her for anything, because I was the one who drove her away with those vicious words that day, and I can't shamelessly ask for her forgiveness after hurting her. But... only now, I really wish Yueying could be by my side.

I'm not a popular person, and I've never needed to be popular, because those who are applauding me now will one day easily turn their backs on me for some reason. So I took it all in stride from the beginning and became accustomed to my fate. No matter how lively the occasion, I don't feel even a fraction of the festive atmosphere around me. The more exhilarating the external environment, the more coldly I realize... I'm still all alone.

This feeling that I should suppress has resurfaced. Twelve years ago, the warmth Yueying gave me helped dispel this loneliness, but now she stands not far in front of me, a short distance, yet we are worlds apart. I can't blame her, I can only sit here dejectedly like a defeated dead dog.) In the corner.

Zhizhi Lonia—the skillful girl who swore to love me—would things be any better if she were here? Impossible, because we must pretend not to see, and besides, we don't know how she'll react to these scandals.

And Xue? This little fox spirit who belongs only to me, who will unconditionally accept everything about me—if I brought her along, would it dispel the loneliness in my heart? No…because a true voice within me constantly reminds me that Xue has never truly belonged to me. When she one day awakens and reverts to… The Holy Maiden of Light, Tianhe Xueqiong, today's tender affection will only turn into a terrifying nightmare.

So, what do I possess? What have I gained in my life?

Nothing.

No matter how many adventures I've experienced, how many treasures I've acquired, or how many illustrious achievements I've made, I am still just a worthless nobody in Sara City. Amidst the crowds, I feel an overwhelming loneliness, realizing I never truly belonged to this group. Compared to the prince and princess dancing gracefully, I am merely a self-important, ugly thing in their eyes.

I am just one person.

"Ha..."

I slumped in the corner, wanting nothing more than to escape the noise, drinking the expensive but tasteless liquor, not caring if I'd have a splitting headache from the hangover tomorrow morning. Suddenly, someone patted my shoulder, and a gentle, humorous voice rang out.

"Hey, nephew, you're not alone! Such a fine evening, why are you drinking alone? Let's have a drink!"

Mao Yan'an, dressed like a swordsman, appeared before me with a dashing air. His fake mustache, accentuated by his smile, made him incredibly handsome, yet also undeniably funny. I felt a warm current flow through my heart, and for a moment, my throat tightened. I tried to force a smile, but what appeared on my face was an expression worse than crying.

"You old codger, who wants to drink with you? If you're going to drink, drink with a woman. I haven't stooped so low as to need a man's pity."

"Getting a woman is easy? You can find one anytime. Just wait, I'll find a beauty to drink and dance with you."

Mao Yan'an was indeed incredibly resourceful. He strode into the crowd and in no time, a rather pretty noblewoman was arm in arm with him, and they returned chatting and laughing. I admired her and was about to stand up and decline when the young lady looked up and saw me. Her face paled, she screamed, threw her handbag at me, and ran away.

I never imagined I'd become such a notorious figure. That scream drew everyone's attention, and countless malicious and mocking glances rained down on me like a thousand arrows. I had nowhere to escape, only to bitterly smile and endure it all. I felt I should be angry, but besides a deep loneliness, I felt no other emotion.

A series of venomous sarcasm drifted over amidst the faint whispers. Though I couldn't hear them clearly, I could still sense the malice and curses within. However, all of this paled in comparison to what I saw: Lun Fei'er and Leng Linglan, surrounded by a group of high-ranking officials and nobles, occasionally casting a mocking glance their way. Standing side by side, their radiant and noble bearing made me, for the first time, want to escape.

(I should go, don't embarrass myself here...)

I stood up from the corner, about to leave, when a wave of dizziness washed over me. Just as I was wondering what was wrong, I realized that the once bustling banquet hall had suddenly fallen silent. The

quiet area rapidly expanded from the entrance, instantly engulfing the entire banquet hall. The previous noisy revelry had transformed into utter silence, leaving only the gasps of people experiencing a tremendous shock, spreading like a contagious disease among everyone.

I didn't know what they had seen to be so astonished. A strong sense of curiosity welled up within me, but... Before I could actively seek an answer, everyone automatically stepped aside, making way for the person behind to see the scene ahead and the guest slowly entering the banquet hall.

It was a young woman in a pure white evening gown.

The simple white silk dress, perfectly tailored, accentuated her exquisitely sculpted, jade-like, pure white body. Although it was a backless design, it didn't detract from the dress's innocence; rather, it elevated her elegance to another level. She

had no attendants, wasn't on the guest list for the evening, and nobody knew she was... Who? Yet, more than half the men in the room recognized her, and in the shortest time, they spread her beautiful story throughout the entire city.

The dreamlike girl who had been the subject of inquiries from every man in Sara City for over half a month, always strolling the streets late at night, appeared at this unbelievable moment, stunning everyone with her celestial beauty.

Even I couldn't help but sincerely admire her; I never imagined that the dreamlike beauty who had troubled me for half a month, yet I still hadn't had the chance to see her, could actually be so beautiful! Her beauty was worthy of being ranked among the Four Heavenly Maidens; her charm and features surpassed even Ah Xue's. Of all the beauties I had ever seen, only… Yueying was equally stunning, a fact proven by the breathtaking reactions of everyone present. Her

simple, understated evening gown, compared to the lavish dresses of the surrounding ladies and young women, might have seemed shabby, but because of her breathtaking beauty, it didn't lose its luster at all. I believe most of the people in the audience shared my feeling… no other girl in the world could suit white so well.

Her delicate face was unadorned, as if still damp with moisture. Her long, straight, fiery red hair, simply tied in a ponytail, revealed her cheerful and lively personality. Her

small, cherry-red lips were naturally rosy… It was definitely not makeup, because no rouge or lipstick in the world could capture such vitality; the skin exposed on the back of her dress was fair, soft, and delicate, seemingly translucent with a subtle glow. A joyful smile graced her lips, a smile free from worries, desires, or taint, like mist drifting through the forest, elusive and otherworldly. The

moon was bright and clear, its cold light as pure as her dress. The sky was cloudless, dotted with countless stars, the Milky Way like the brilliance in her eyes.

Today, the moon was beautiful, so beautiful. The banquet was magnificent. But today…

the moon seemed to exist solely for her, shining only upon her.

The starlight seemed to exist solely for her, adorning only her.

The crowd seemed to exist solely for her, highlighting only her.

She walked lightly, elegantly, gracefully.

Her lotus feet, beneath her white dress, moved swiftly, as if with each step, the sky would shower her with petals and send forth a fragrant breeze.

This breathtakingly beautiful young woman, under the astonished gaze of the crowd, moved gracefully into the banquet hall, walking towards the podium at the front.

On the podium stood President and Mrs. Plantagenet. No one noticed the potential security risks posed by the sudden appearance of such a beautiful young woman. Everyone held their breath, glancing at Yueying, then at her, marveling at the beauty bestowed upon humanity by the Creator. Even Hui Xiuchu, whose sexual orientation was supposedly "unusual," stopped in his tracks, his hand leaving his weapon, completely forgetting his responsibility to protect Ryan and Yueying.

Just as the girl reached the center of the banquet hall, and everyone assumed she would walk to the stage to rival the stunningly beautiful Qiuying Tiannu, she suddenly changed direction, as if searching for something, and blocked the way in front of her. The crowd hurriedly parted, not daring to disturb the air she passed by, eager to see where this celestial beauty was headed.

And I… just stood there dumbfounded, watching this stunningly beautiful girl, the center of attention of all the wealthy and powerful, walk straight towards me, stopping a short distance in front of me as if by fate.

The dreamlike beauty that every man in Sara City had been chasing for half a month, suddenly stopped before me—what did she want?

This was the most secluded corner; I was all alone. What was she looking for, arriving so gracefully?

"...You...came for me?"

These words shattered the deathly silence, eliciting a deafening roar of laughter that nearly lifted the roof off. Even I felt utterly foolish and couldn't help but blush with shame.

But these words had an unexpected effect. The breathtakingly beautiful girl gave me a playful smile and suddenly rushed over. She took my hand and led me to the center of the banquet hall, weaving through the crowd, until we stood beneath the magnificent crystal chandelier at the very center.

I was completely confused... What was she trying to do? Up close, I was struck by the breathtaking beauty of this dreamlike girl, her slender hand gripping mine with warmth. But… why did her face seem so familiar, even though we were complete strangers?

The dreamlike girl pulled me to the center of the room, offering another gentle smile. Her white-gloved hand released me, but instead guided my right hand to her incredibly slender waist, allowing me to embrace her in awe. At the same time, her right hand clasped mine, and she gracefully raised it slowly. I

stopped, captivated by her beauty . The band, seeing our position, seemed to awaken to our predicament and began playing upbeat dance music. And so, we started dancing in full view of everyone.

I'm a soldier who lacks martial ethics; while I know that during a rape, you must hold a woman's mouth shut, I've never learned how to dance or socialize. My steps were naturally clumsy and awkward. In the first few steps, I embarrassingly nearly stepped on her delicate feet, but luckily, her small feet in high heels were extremely nimble, and I managed to escape unscathed several times.

After this embarrassing incident, I felt discouraged and wanted to give up on this abnormal relationship. I was trying to avoid further embarrassment, but as soon as I loosened my grip, the dreamy girl grabbed my right hand again, placing it unabashedly on her soft waist. Her red lips were slightly pouting, and her bright purple eyes flashed with a mixture of reproach, disappointment, and encouragement, leaving me no choice but to grit my teeth and jump down.

Surrounding me were layers upon layers of thick human walls, many of whom were highly skilled in martial arts or dance. Each time they saw my clumsy movements, my unsteady balance, or even when I nearly stumbled, they laughed loudly without any restraint. This contemptuous laughter quickly drew waves of scornful laughter from those around me.

"What kind of dance is this scoundrel doing? Is it a specialty of your country?"

"The ambassador is joking. This scoundrel is a disgrace to our country. How could he possibly know how to dance the elegant Alibuda dance? This is probably some kind of superb dance technique that his Farrell family learned after stepping in dog poop!"

"Haha, no wonder it stinks so badly, so incredibly badly!"

I knew their intentions perfectly well. Besides genuine mockery, these jealous men, harboring resentment, also wanted to create pressure, hoping to force this dreamlike girl, whom every man wanted to approach and talk to, to ditch me, this toad unworthy to soil a swan's feathers. I glanced at her worriedly, fearing that if she angrily abandoned me, I would be utterly disgraced. However, she winked at me, gave me a reassuring, bright smile, and subtly led me in a dance, gradually becoming more and more skilled.

The rhythmic steps weren't difficult to begin with, and once I mastered them, although my movements weren't entirely fluid, I no longer stepped on her delicate feet. I could confidently wrap my arms around her soft, slender waist, inhale her delicate, feminine fragrance, feel the slenderness and lightness of her waist with my right hand, and dance graceful circles to the lively melody.

The gazes around me remained sharp, as if they wanted to slice me into eight pieces, but I no longer felt dejected or discouraged. These gazes, besides disdain and anger, held intense jealousy and envy. As I twirled in my dance, I caught a glimpse of Leng Linglan; she indeed looked furious, clenching her fists in indignation. Just that expression alone made the previous humiliation worthwhile.

Mao Yan'an and Xin Deng Jushi retreated to the corner I had been in, and when our eyes met, they raised their glasses in silent congratulations. I was quite happy, because among all the people in the banquet hall, they were perhaps the two happiest people to me.

As for His Majesty the King… he was probably among the first to want to tear me to pieces. His eyes burned with a burning desire to snatch me away; it was unbelievable that someone his age still possessed such a strong lust. Behind him, on the stage, Ryan smiled encouragingly at me, while Yue Ying… I couldn't see her expression, but I didn't want to care about that now.

Tonight is one of the most joyful memories of my life. Glory, brilliance, and the feeling of being envied—I received it all when I needed it most. But without this dreamlike girl, tonight would have been nothing but a painful nightmare. I am truly, truly… so grateful to her.

“Thank you, you’ve helped me a lot,”

I whispered, gazing at the beautiful face not far in front of me. She wore no makeup, her skin was snow-white, her lips were rosy red, her eyelashes delicate, and her amethyst eyes sparkled with a mischievous innocence. She possessed a beauty that seemed naive to the ways of the world, like a pure angel newly descended to earth. Although she wasn’t as delicate and pitiful as Yueying, I had never seen such a spirited girl before.

"Which noble family's daughter are you from? I have the honor of meeting you."

As I asked this seemingly ordinary greeting, my heart started pounding uncontrollably. She seemed to have been waiting for this question to come out; as soon as I finished speaking, she blinked her bright eyes, smiled sweetly, and gracefully leaned in, gently kissing my cheek.

My mind went blank, as if I were confused by the gasps of the surrounding crowd, but my heart overflowed with indescribable joy, so excited that I wanted to let go of her hand and jump up and shout. How ridiculous! I never dreamed I would be so shy, like a boy experiencing first love…

"What's your name? Have I seen you before?"

There was no way I had ever seen her before. With a beauty comparable to Yueying's, one who had seen her once would never forget her, even if they went blind. But when she heard my words, she smiled sweetly, a radiant and innocent smile that seemed strangely familiar. And it was in that smile that she spoke her first words since appearing in person.

"Handsome brother, don't you really recognize me? Hehe, your dancing is terrible!"

Undoubtedly, I didn't recognize the beautiful face before me, but that voice… I think I will never forget or mistake it for anything else in my life. It instantly plunged me from heaven to hell.

"Phoenix?"

I couldn't believe it, but upon closer inspection, her fiery red hair, amethyst eyes, and 34D breasts restrained beneath her white silk dress—these unique features confirmed her identity. However… this was the first time I had seen her true face beneath her heavy makeup… such a flawless and exquisite beauty.

"Correct answer! Your sweet and beautiful saleswoman is here to serve you."

This was supposed to be the happiest night of my life, but now I just felt like crying. The angelic, pure girl before me had suddenly transformed into a cunning and treacherous female demon. All romantic feelings were utterly superfluous.

"Why are you dressed like this? What are you doing here?"

"This? You think I look like a little angel? Among my recent clients, one is a saint-obsessed maniac. He gets aroused by pictures of teachers, clergy, and angels, and he'll sign any unfair agreement. This outfit is for easier sales. I just finished signing a contract, and since there are so many people here, I thought I could make a few more deals. Seeing that you really wanted to dance, I thought I'd dance first and then go make more customers."

Phoenix told me that men most want to show off in these kinds of situations, so this was her voluntary service. She was sure I had successfully infuriated my number one rival. I thought I was right, but as my gaze swept around, besides Leng Linglan, who was about to storm off in anger, and countless pairs of jealous eyes, I also met a pair of eyes filled with sorrow.

It was Yue Ying.

Only when I met the sadness in those eyes did I realize that I might have made a mistake again. Not only had I forgotten the purpose of my visit today, but I had also made Yue Ying even more unhappy. Was all of this... also Phoenix's scheme? Everything she had done for me in the past hadn't brought me joy for long before I was met with even more tragic blows. Was this little bit of sweetness she was giving me now just a scheme to separate Yue Ying and me? I couldn't forget how cunning and wicked a heart of demons lay beneath that angelic face.

Thinking of this, I instinctively wanted to let go, leaving this dangerous femme fatale to other foolish potential prey. But the moment I released her, I stumbled and bumped into another dancer behind me—it was none other than Lunfiel. He looked over in surprise, as if to confirm whether this was intentional. But Phoenix winked charmingly, then pulled me aside and danced gracefully, leaving the noble young man from Solancia behind.

It was nothing more than removing her makeup, yet she had such a dramatic change in charm, from alluring and seductive to pure and pretty—it was truly unbelievable. In the instant we passed each other, I saw Lunfiel hesitate, his eyes fixed on Phoenix's beautiful face, clearly captivated by her allure… No wonder, without makeup, Phoenix was even more stunning than Ah Xue and the Dragon Girl, a beauty comparable to Yueying.

Ironically, after removing her makeup, she wasn't just stunningly beautiful, she even looked a few years younger than me.

I whispered to Phoenix that she'd caught a big fish, but this female demon, who'd been wandering the city of Sara for half a month, eager to find prey to sign contracts, pouted as if uninterested and said, "Who cares about that? I just want to dance with you right now. Didn't you say you wanted to see me without makeup? Look at me one more time, it's a special gift for you, brother!"

The fulfillment of my third wish, the misunderstanding surrounding her due to the scandal, and the joy her timely appearance brought me tonight—I really owe her something. Looking into Phoenix's earnest and beautiful eyes, my heart softened, and I abandoned all other concerns, dancing with her wholeheartedly.

As the rhythm shifted from brisk to soothing, Phoenix's dance transformed from nimble and fluid to elegant. Each movement of her gloved hands traced a beautiful trajectory, as graceful as a swan spreading its wings. Then, as she danced, she abruptly moved away from me and pulled back, her long skirt swirling sensually like white clouds. Her joyful laughter, like silver bells, and her angelic, captivating beauty, combined with the mystery of her evening strolls through the streets, created a different kind of beauty.

For a moment, everyone in the banquet hall stopped and stepped aside, watching us dance with unbridled joy, with only the band's continuous accompaniment remaining.

I was overjoyed and quickly pulled Phoenix back, her supple body pressing against my chest. Looking at her radiant smile, I couldn't help but whisper in her ear.

"Anyway, I want to tell you that I really thank you, and... you're really funny."
