【The Divine Eagle Empire】(Unabridged Volume 1, Chapter 1)

Chapter 1 Snowstorm in the Capital

The cold wind howled, and snowflakes danced in the air.

As dusk approached, lights began to illuminate the homes of the capital, casting a heavy shadow against the gloomy sky.

A foot of snow covered the ground, but the snow continued to fall, drifting down like goose feathers, seemingly growing heavier with each passing day.

This capital of the Divine Eagle Empire, usually bustling with people and vehicles, a vibrant scene

of people sweating profusely, was now deserted. Few were on the streets; everyone was huddled indoors,

warming . Only homeless beggars and stray dogs huddled timidly in corners and under eaves, shivering and enduring

their hunger.

Based on past experience, tomorrow would likely bring more frozen corpses—more people than dogs. Inside the high walls

, pavilions and towers stood, their interiors warm and inviting. Through the brightly lit windows, the sounds of string and wind instruments drifted out. For the wealthy

, such entertainment, accompanied by wine and song, was the ultimate pleasure.

A biting north wind swept the snow from the ground, mixing it with the falling snow, turning the entire capital city of Tianjing

into a white expanse. On the main street of the North Gate, shrouded in snow, a single horse

struggled against the wind and snow. The horse, old and thin, was sweating profusely, occasionally raising its head to neigh and exhaling puffs of

white breath.

The driver was a robust man not yet thirty, dressed in an old black sheepskin robe, his head and face

tightly covered, only his eyes visible. He constantly cracked the whip, loudly urging the horse on, displaying

the air of a seasoned horse-drawn carriage driver. The carriage slowly made its way along the street, winding east and west, until it reached the main street of the East Gate and stopped before

the gate of a magnificent mansion .

The burly man driving the car turned around, lifted a corner of the curtain behind him with his right hand, and

shouted into the carriage, "Kid! We're here!"

The carriage was silent, without a sound. The burly man patiently shouted several more times,

slapping the . After a long while, a lazy, half-dead voice finally came from inside the carriage: "Ugh!"

The curtain was lifted, revealing a delicate, childlike face. The child peeked out for a moment, then withdrew

and said, "It's too cold outside. It's warmer inside the carriage. Let me stay a little longer."

The burly man was both annoyed and amused. He said, "Little ancestor, can't I call you 'little ancestor'? I

've already taken you to your destination. If you don't get out, are you going to stay in my carriage? This is

the gate of the Prince of Jinyang's residence; we can't stop here."

The "little ancestor" made an "oh" sound, and after a long pause, he finally crawled out of the carriage slowly.

His movements were so slow that the burly man wanted to kick him out of the carriage.

A very small boy, probably only twelve or thirteen years old, emerged from the carriage. He had delicate features,

red lips and white teeth, and bright, mischievous eyes that darted around. He wore

a tattered gray-white cotton-padded coat, and his thin frame made him appear frail and weak, shivering in the wind and snow. He slowly

climbed down from the carriage, looked around to make sure everything was alright, and then headed towards the gate of the mansion.

"Stop!"

The burly man, seeing him, hurriedly called out to him.

The boy turned around, gave him an annoyed look, and asked, "What is it?"

"You seem to have forgotten something,"

the burly man said irritably, "You haven't paid me for the carriage yet!"

Oh! The little boy scratched the back of his head with his right hand, suddenly realizing what he had done. He nodded repeatedly and said, "Right, right! I haven't

given you your fare yet! How can you ride without paying? I'll pay you right now, I'll pay you right now."

He then rummaged through his pockets, left and right, until he finally pulled out a gleaming gold

coin, which he handed to the burly man.

The burly man's eyes lit up, and he eagerly snatched the coin, chuckling, "I didn't expect

a to have a gold coin on you. It's not enough for the fare, but it's close. Goodbye, and

good luck."

With that, he cracked his whip and drove the carriage away.

"Damn robber..." the little boy stomped his feet angrily, cursing loudly. That gold coin was his last

, and he hadn't expected the driver to be so heartless, not giving him a single penny in change. Fortunately, they had arrived at the

Jin Yang capital. Once he was recognized as a member of the family, he wouldn't have to worry about expenses, and he didn't need to care about a mere gold coin.

The Prince of Jinyang's mansion was enormous, occupying almost half of Dongzheng Street, with a tall and imposing gate. The little boy

, a complete country bumpkin, was stunned by the mansion's grandeur, exclaiming in disbelief, "My goodness

! This Prince of Jinyang's mansion is huge! What do people of such small stature need so much space for?"

After muttering for a while, the boy mustered his courage and climbed the steps. Reaching the gate, he pounded on

it , shouting, "Open the door! Open the door..." Despite his small and thin appearance, he was surprisingly strong,

pounding on the gate with deafening thuds that echoed far and wide.

"Who is it?"

a furious shout came from inside, followed by a flurry of rustling sounds as a large group of people rushed towards

the gate . The little boy stepped back a few paces and retorted, "Me! Me! Open the door for me now!"

Ha! Anyone who dared to call themselves "me" in front of the Prince of Jin's mansion was either insane or had a death wish! Several

passersby who were about to pass by the gates of the Prince of Jinyang's mansion stopped abruptly, staring at the little boy with curiosity: "

Whose child is this? Running around like a madman at the gates of the Prince of Jinyang's mansion, he's got some nerve!"

Bang! The gates of the Prince of Jinyang's mansion swung open, and a squad of guards with swords rushed out, spreading out in a triangular formation to partially surround the little

boy. The captain of the guards, looking fierce and furious, had

served in the Prince of Jinyang's mansion for ten years and had never heard of anyone daring to act so arrogantly at its gates, calling themselves "I"—it was utterly lawless. He wanted to see

who was so arrogant. When he finally saw a child standing in the snow in front of the gate, he froze, then roared

, "Where did this little beggar come from? Begging in the Prince of Jinyang's mansion? You're asking for trouble! Get out!"

"What? A little beggar?"

The little boy pointed at himself with his right hand, then at the guard captain, and said unhappily, "You called me a little beggar?

Do I look like a beggar to you? Do you know who I am? Believe me or I'll take your head!"

Uh! His string of words intimidated the guards of the Prince of Jinyang's mansion.

Anyone who was either an idiot or fearless. However, looking at the beggar-like child in front of them, he didn't seem like a beggar at all.

"Someone important?" The captain of the guard sized up the little boy, his expression changing as he forced a dry laugh and asked, "

Who are you?"

"Who do you care who I am!"

the little boy glared. "I'm telling you, I'm here to see the Prince of Jinyang! Tell him to come out and see me!"

Wow! That's incredibly arrogant! He actually wants the Prince of Jinyang to come out and see him? Who does he think he is? The captain of the guard's face

changed, and he angrily said, "How dare a little beggar like you just see the Prince..." "Shut up! You're not allowed to call me a little

beggar!"

the little boy interrupted him, angrily saying, "The Prince of Jinyang is my father, I'm his son. Is it wrong for a son to acknowledge

his father ?"

What? Hearing this, the captain of the guard staggered, nearly falling to the ground,

his jaw dropping, his eyes bulging, his expression a mixture of astonishment and

disbelief. The other guards exchanged bewildered glances. The little boy's voice was extremely loud; everyone heard him clearly

. The onlookers gasped in astonishment. This little beggar was actually the son of the Prince of Jinyang! No wonder he was so arrogant;

he 'd come to claim his father as his own.

Everyone was stunned by the boy's words. The captain of the guard couldn't afford to be careless. He stared at the boy, circling him

from head to toe, scrutinizing him carefully for a while before saying, "Little... um! You say you

're the Prince's son, what proof do you have? There are plenty of people trying to impersonate my Prince's son; how do I

know if you're not?"

The boy replied, "Of course I have proof. What would I be doing here without proof? Looking for death?"

The captain of the guard thought about it and realized he was right. He didn't recall anyone ever daring to come to the Prince

of Jinyang's residence and impersonate his son before. Since the boy dared to claim he was the Prince of Jinyang's son, whether it was true or not, it was no longer up to him

. What if the boy was genuine? Who knew what the consequences would be if he slighted him?

In those days, it wasn't uncommon for imperial officials to have mistresses and father illegitimate children . Just

two days ago, rumors were circulating in the capital that the Prime Minister had been discovered by his wife to be keeping a mistress outside and fathering an illegitimate daughter,

causing a city-wide uproar and becoming common knowledge. Because of this, the Prince of Jinyang mocked

the Prime Minister in front of the Emperor and all the officials during the morning court session: "Prime Minister! Quite something! One at home, one outside!"

Thinking of this, the captain of the guard couldn't help but laugh. The Prince would never have imagined that just two days later, it would be his

turn Would the Prime Minister retaliate in kind, returning the same words: "One at home, one outside?

" Without further hesitation, the captain of the guard bowed slightly to the little boy and said, "Please follow me!"

He then led the way. The little boy brushed the snow off his clothes and swaggered into the Prince of Jinyang's residence
