【Forbidden for the Brave】(16)

Chapter Sixteen: The Bloodthirsty Mine

Hearing the word "mine" made me feel uneasy. Although I wanted to ask more, stopping the bull-demon

was the priority . Besides, the innkeeper's mental state was unstable, so Jessica and I chased after it.

The bull-demon was incredibly fast; Jessica and I ran for two streets without even catching a glimpse of it. Just then, the town's

clock tower rang, the rapid tolling warning of impending danger. Deciding not to waste any more

time, I quickened my pace, gradually putting distance between myself and Jessica. Finally, at the corner of the third street,

I spotted the

bull-demon. Several other people were with it, clearly also ability users. A half-orc warrior charged

forward, wielding a giant axe. The bull-demon didn't try to dodge; instead, it sidestepped, using its arm to meet the axe blade.

The axe began to dig into flesh, black blood gushing from the cut. But then, the axe

stopped short of reaching the flesh, startling the half-orc!

With the orc's undefended attack, it should have severed at least one of the bull-demon's arms. But

for some reason, the axe seemed unable to penetrate any further. It seemed this bull-demon was no ordinary monster; the black blood only

fueled suspicion. Without hesitation, the bull-demon turned its head towards the orc, its large, blood-red eyes fixed on

him. It then reached out to grab him, but two arrows immediately pierced its palms.

The bull-demon swung its arm, and the orc, unable to release his grip because the axe was stuck in his flesh,

was flung away, crashing into an archer nearby. I seized the opportunity to run to a spot nearby, grabbed a handful of pebbles

, and hurled them. The bull-demon, its back to me, was struck by several pebbles that quickly embedded themselves in its back, splattering out a spray of black

blood.

It hadn't even been pierced! Just how thick was this hide? The bull demon roared in agony, turning to

attack its attacker. But I was already in front of it, a massive black shadow towering over me

, still quite imposing. It was precisely this imposing presence that forced me to act even faster.

As soon as it saw me, I drew my elven sword and swung it with all my might. With a roar, its entire head

was cleaved off, black blood gushing out like a fountain, some splashing into my

still open mouth. A stench assaulted my throat, and I felt a tightness in my chest, almost vomiting.

Its headless body instinctively thrashed about. I hadn't expected it to move. Caught off guard, I was slapped and sent

flying. I thought my backside was going to be in trouble, but instead, my back bumped into something soft. Someone had caught me from

behind . Turning around, I saw Jessica, who had caught up. My back and those large breasts

pressed tightly together—it felt wonderful.

The bull demon's body swayed a few times before collapsing. I thought to myself, thankfully it was just a reflex; if it

hadn't died, things would have been much more difficult. The other ability users gathered around the corpse. Jessica blushed and let go of me,

walking over with me. There lay the headless bull demon, black blood gushing from the wounds

, emitting a putrid stench. Jessica frowned.

A human looked at the large holes in the bull's back and turned to me, saying,

"Young man, what weapon is that? So powerful, it's made so many holes!"

I smiled awkwardly, thinking, "Would you believe it's just a rock?" Seeing my silence, he assumed I didn't want to answer and wisely

didn't press the matter.

"How can this bull demon be so powerful? Those two impact arrows I fired just now, even if they didn't shatter its hand,

should have easily pierced through it. Why did they only pierce the arrowheads?"

The archer from before also noticed the problem. This bull demon was definitely suspicious. Several people surrounded the corpse,

looking at each other , wondering what was going on. Because of the bell that had just rung, more people gathered around, all trying

to see what had happened.

The guards, who had been missing for the past two days, suddenly appeared. Due to the hunting competition, the guards

had been practically invisible in the city. A burly human male led the way, pushing his way

to the front.

"Make way, make way."

This seemed to be the captain of the guards; he was tall and strong but looked somewhat nonchalant.

"What's going on? What kind of monster is this?"

Now, he didn't even know what a bull demon was. No one around him paid him any attention; they were all shaking their heads. He felt

a little embarrassed and was about to lash out when a voice came from behind the crowd.

"It's the Bull Demon!"

The crowd parted to make way for an old man who looked to be in his seventies or eighties. He was unfamiliar with

the man. "Oh, it's the mayor. I know it's the Bull Demon. I was just asking where he came from,"

the guard captain said with a smile. The mayor, however, didn't smile; his face darkened.

"It seems the seal on the Bloodthirsty Mine has been broken..."

The guard captain looked puzzled.

"What? What mine?"

"Notify everyone in the city. From now on, a curfew is in effect. Stay home and await further instructions. I

'm going to inform the Grand Church."

Hearing the mayor's words, the captain knew things had become serious.

"Such a big deal? Does it need to involve the Grand Church?"

The Grand Church is the central hub of all churches. Churches exist in all human countries, and even some

other races have extensive branches. They generally don't get involved in politics, but they influence

the balance of power among nations. It seemed things had indeed become quite serious.

"Everyone, please disperse quickly. The situation in town is urgent. Please try not to go out. I will have the guards post

any announcements on the bulletin board and distribute copies to each household."

Judging from the situation, today's exhibition day was probably canceled. However, the crowd wasn't so

obedient ; they were all whispering and discussing amongst themselves. The mayor ignored them, picked up his cane, and walked out of the crowd. But the

crowd only grew larger, and various rumors began to circulate.

"I know about that Bloodlust Mine. I heard that a group of terrifying monsters live in it."

"I heard that the cave leads to the Carlo Reston Mountains!"

"Don't talk nonsense. I heard that a long time ago, Catheran was a very prosperous town, named after this Bloodlust

Mine. I think it used to be called something like the Miso Mine, named for its abundance of Miso crystals."

"The minerals inside are unusually abundant, but as mining intensifies, the caves are dug deeper and deeper until they reach

a massive cavern."

"Look, it connects to the Carloreston Mountains."

"Don't interrupt!"

someone complained to the person fixated on the Carloreston Mountains.

"It's said that there are magic stones or something inside that cave, stimulating the growth of surrounding substances, minerals, and

monsters. The mining team was massacred, and the monsters, attracted by the smell of blood, kept crawling out from the depths. Catheran

was annihilated, but it attracted a large number of adventurers who wanted to explore it. However, it's said that people went in but never

came out. In the end, the Grand Church sent a team of archmages who sacrificed themselves to finally seal the cave from the inside."

Hearing this, some people's eyes suddenly lit up, as if they felt

there was treasure inside the cave, while others quietly left, whether to go home for refuge or to prepare for an adventure

.

I turned to look at Jessica. She was frowning, deep in thought. I had a pretty good idea of what was going on. This

sudden change might disrupt the Thorn Corporation's gathering, and if they missed this opportunity,

it would be hard to say whether they could find Princess Anlia's whereabouts again.

"By the way, where is this mine?"

"I think it's in the woods behind the arena."

Hearing this, I was shocked. Could it be... could it be that I accidentally broke the entrance?

The reminder made it seem more and more likely. Oh no, I've made a huge mistake. Luckily, no one else knows, or I'd

probably be skinned alive.

"Don't tell me! One day I thought I saw someone rushing out of the woods!"

I was shocked again. What a coincidence! I tugged at Jessica, deciding to leave

this . Jessica, preoccupied, didn't say much and followed me out of the crowd. Knowing her

concerns, I spoke up.

"Go back and inform Anya first, don't let her worry too much. Why don't you take the landlady and Anya to

the slums together? There are more of you, so you can look after each other. Don't worry, I'll go find Cassie and ask about the situation."

Jessica looked at me gratefully after hearing what I said, nodded, and ran towards the inn. I stood there,

not knowing where to go. Although I was going to find Cassie, I really didn't know where his hideout was. Today's exhibition was

probably canceled. Suddenly, I remembered the address he gave the fairy when we were transporting equipment. I hadn't

paid much attention to it at the time, and now I regretted it a little. Based on my vague memory, it seemed to be in the North District.

I couldn't remember it right now, so I could only walk and think about it. So I headed towards the North District. The North District

was a relatively prosperous residential area. I didn't usually come here. There was a small river

separating Occasionally, on my way to the square, I would see some couples strolling on the small bridge.

Upon arriving in the northern part of the town, I began wandering aimlessly. The people here didn't seem to have an early-rising habit, and the clock tower was

quite far away. There were hardly any people on the streets, only the occasional person peeking out of a window. I wandered around

for ages I spotted

that familiar figure at a corner of an alley.

Cassie was walking about fifty meters ahead of me, with another person beside him. This person's back also looked familiar; it

was clearly the mayor I had just met. So Cassie's claim of being a resident of the town wasn't false. The two seemed to

know each other well ; no wonder he dared to act so recklessly in town. I quietly followed behind, wanting to see what they were up to.
