[The New Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber] (Chapter 16)

Chapter 16 Zhou Zhiruo

On the banks of the Han River, Zhang Wuji had been searching for several days without finding Zhou Zhiruo,

and began to wonder if he had come to the wrong place. Just as he was about to search elsewhere, a loud voice

came from the river: "Stop the boat immediately and hand over the child obediently, or I will spare your life; otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless!"

The voice came clearly from the waves, indicating that the person calling out was quite powerful.

Hearing this, Zhang Wuji was overjoyed, knowing that Zhou Zhiruo was about to appear. Looking up, he saw two riverboats

speeding towards them. On the stern of the smaller boat sat a burly man with a thick beard, rowing rapidly with both hands.

Inside the cabin sat a boy and a girl; the burly man must be Chang Yuchun. The larger boat behind

carried four Tibetan monks and seven or eight Mongol military officers. The officers picked up planks and began rowing together. Chang Yuchun

possessed extraordinary strength; with a single pull of his oars, the small boat surged forward more than ten feet. However, the boat behind had more people, and the two boats drew ever

closer. Soon, the military officers and Tibetan monks drew their bows and nocked arrows, firing at the large man. The arrows whistled through the

air .

At that moment, Chang Yuchun rowed with his left hand and raised his oar with his right, deflecting and knocking down the arrows one by one with incredible

speed. Suddenly, a scream of pain rang out; an arrow had struck the back of a boy in the small boat. Chang Yuchun

, startled, bent down to look and saw arrows in his shoulder and back. He lost his grip on the oar, which fell into the middle of the river, and the boat

came to a standstill. The large boat behind quickly caught up, and seven or eight Mongol military officers and Tibetan monks jumped onto the small boat. But Chang Yuchun

remained defiant, punching and kicking, fighting back with all his might.

Seeing this, Zhang Wuji panicked. If Zhou Zhiruo were injured, things would be dire. He leaped towards the small boat

, unleashing Xie Xun's Lion's Roar, "Stop!" His voice was like thunder, making everyone on the boat's ears ring and

their internal energy dissipate, almost causing them to lose their footing.

Seeing Zhang Wuji approach, several Mongol officers nocked arrows and fired at him. Zhang Wuji, in mid-air, struck out

with his palm, the force of which shredded the arrows into fragments. Then, he floated onto the boat. Four Mongol monks, seeing

Zhang Wuji on board, pounced on him.

Zhang Wuji struck out with his palm, a barrage of palm shadows engulfing the four, sending them flying several feet before they tumbled

into the river with four splashes. The officers, seeing him descend like a flying general from the sky, effortlessly sending four highly

skilled monks , were all filled with fear. The leading military officer shouted, "Hey kid, what are you doing?"

Zhang Wuji sneered, "These dog Tartars deserve to die!" With that, he flashed forward, unleashing a barrage of palm

strikes upon the officers. Several screams of agony rang

out as they coughed up blood and flew backward, landing in the river with a few splashes, lifeless. Only

then did Zhang Wuji have time to observe the others on the boat. Chang Yuchun, covered in blood, clutched a boy in his left arm, his eyes

filled with tears, crying, "Young Master... Young Master..." The boy he held had been shot in the back and was dead.

Meanwhile, the little girl Zhou Zhiruo was lying on top of a male corpse in the cabin, crying, "Father! Father!"

Judging from the corpse's attire, Zhang Wuji believed it was the boatman.

After a while, Chang Yuchun said to Zhang Wuji, "Thank you for saving me, young master. I am deeply grateful."

Zhang Wuji quickly replied, "It's nothing, just a small matter. Besides, the Tartars are harming the people; they should be killed as soon as possible."

"I haven't yet asked your name, benefactor?"

"What benefactor? My name is Zhang Wuji. If Brother Chang thinks highly of me, just call me Wuji."

"Alright." Chang Yuchun was also a forthright man. He said, "Since you call me Brother Chang, I won't be pretentious. I'll

call you Brother Zhang. I didn't expect Brother Zhang to be the son of the martial arts master Zhang. After the battle at Wudang, Brother Zhang became famous

throughout the world ."

At this moment, the small boat drifted along the river and approached the shore. "Brother Zhang, let's go ashore," Chang Yuchun said.

"Okay." Zhang Wuji picked up Zhou Zhiruo beside him, and the two used their lightness skills to leap towards the shore. Once

ashore, Chang Yuchun dug a pit under a large tree with a knife, stripped Zhou Gongzi's body naked

, and buried him. He then knelt before the grave and bowed several times. It turned out that "naked burial" was a rule of the Ming Cult, which stipulated that everyone

should come into the world naked and leave naked as well.

"Brother Zhang, to tell you the truth, I am a member of the Ming Cult, what the martial world calls a member of the Demonic Cult.

Would you still call me Brother Chang?"

Zhang Wuji feigned displeasure. "The so-called Demonic Cult and the righteous path are just self-proclaimed labels. Besides

, Brother Chang's uprising against the Yuan Dynasty is truly heroic. My maternal grandfather was also a member of the Demonic Cult; we are family."

"Good," Chang Yuchun said excitedly. "Brother Zhang, if you ever need anything, I, Chang Yuchun, will do my utmost."

"Then thank you, Brother Chang."

"Brother Zhang, this young girl's matter arose because of me, but I am injured and it's inconvenient for me to

attend to I'll leave her in your care, Brother Zhang."

"Alright, don't worry, I will take good care of her."

"Brother Zhang, farewell."

"Farewell."

After Chang Yuchun left, Zhang Wuji slowly took a look at Zhou Zhiruo. Zhou Zhiruo was about ten years old, dressed in worn clothes

, barefoot, but her features were exquisitely beautiful, elegant and graceful, gentle as jade, clear as water, with tears streaming down her face,

making her look pitiful.

"Little sister, what's your name? Will your brother take care of you from now on?" Zhang Wuji said softly.

The little girl, Zhou Zhiruo, had tears in her eyes and gently replied, "Yes."

"Don't cry, okay? Your brother will take good care of you from now on." Zhang Wuji reached out and gently

wiped away the tears on Zhou Zhiruo's face. Zhou Zhiruo's pretty face flushed slightly, and her eyelashes trembled slightly.

"Let's go." Zhang Wuji took Zhou Zhiruo's delicate hand and walked towards a nearby town. They

bought some clothes in the town and had Zhou Zhiruo change into them at an inn. The moment Zhou Zhiruo appeared after changing her clothes,

Zhang Wuji was slightly stunned. Zhou Zhiruo was beautiful and elegant, with clear, bright eyes, a captivating and graceful figure, like a lotus emerging from water,

as beautiful as an orchid, charming and lovely, standing tall and graceful.

"Sister Zhiruo, please come down for dinner," Zhang Wuji said, leading

Zhou Zhiruo to the hall. After the food was served, Zhang Wuji placed some food in Zhou Zhiruo's bowl, saying, "Sister Zhiruo, please eat."

"Thank you, Brother Wuji," Zhou Zhiruo replied with a faint smile.

After dinner, the two returned to their room. Zhang Wuji noticed Zhou Zhiruo's brow was slightly furrowed, as if she had been reminded of something sad. Feeling a pang of sympathy,

Zhang Wuji told her a dozen or so jokes about his past life before finally making her laugh. Her sadness lessened slightly.

That evening, Zhang Wuji noticed Zhou Zhiruo's slightly flushed cheeks and her awkwardness. He realized she

was shy about sharing a room with him. But Zhang Wuji wasn't about to be foolish enough to book another room. To accommodate

the young woman's shyness, he lay down on the edge of the bed, leaving a large empty space beside him.

Seeing this, Zhou Zhiruo hesitated for a moment, then lay down on the other side, her back to Zhang Wuji. After a while, Zhang Wuji

faintly heard sobbing. He moved closer and gently touched her damp face, knowing

she hadn't forgotten her father's death and was secretly crying.

Zhang Wuji gently hugged her and whispered in her ear, "Cry, it'll make you feel better. From now on, your brother

Wuji will take care of you." Zhou Zhiruo, as if finding solace, turned and hugged Zhang Wuji, sobbing softly

. Zhang Wuji gently patted her back with one hand and stroked her hair with the other.

After a long while, feeling the person in his arms calm down, Zhang Wuji looked down and saw that Zhou Zhiruo had

tears , was asleep with her eyes closed, her small hands tightly clutching her clothes, and her breathing was long and deep. Zhang Wuji gently

kissed Zhou Zhiruo's forehead, then closed his eyes and held her close as well.
