The author of the "Deflowering Ceremony" is unknown.

The Bai people are a minority ethnic group residing in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. The men are known for their physical strength, hard work, and fighting prowess, while the women are renowned for their beautiful figures and skill in seduction. In tourist areas like Kunming, Dali, and Xishuangbanna, many eloquent and beautiful young female tour guides are Bai girls.

The following is a first-night account of Bai tour guide Bai Mudan:

Bai Mudan grew up in one of the most powerful and warlike tribes of the Bai people, living in the mountainous region bordering Yunnan and Myanmar. There, the climate is spring-like year-round, the mountains and rivers are beautiful, and birds and animals roam freely; the land is fertile and rich in resources.

Since ancient times, Bai Mudan's tribe has struggled against nature, competing with the neighboring Miao people for land and resources.

Through thousands of years of hardship, the men of the tribe have become warriors skilled in archery, swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of poison, while the women have been honed into cunning and seductive heroines.

The tribe has developed various strange customs that outsiders perceive as unusual. In reality, these customs are manifestations of the survival-of-the-fittest principle of modern society.

In Bai Mudan's tribe, newborn infants with physical or intellectual defects must be euthanized. This saves the tribe food and resources and ensures that the grown men and women are of high caliber.

Another peculiar custom is the extreme importance placed on sexual intercourse. Boys and girls receive sexual training from their parents and the tribe from a young age. The reason for this is the threat of disease and war; the tribe needs a large population, hence the encouragement of sexual intercourse and procreation.

Bai Mudan's thoughts drift back to eight years ago, recalling the "deflowering ceremony" held on the grassland on the mountainside of the village. According to their tribal custom, girls are considered adults at sixteen. The tribal shaman performs the "deflowering ceremony," where the shaman breaks the hymen of every girl in the tribe, allowing them to choose a suitable man to marry and have children.

The Virginity-Breaking Ceremony is the grandest event of the entire tribe, held on the night of the full moon on the fifteenth of each month, lasting all night long.

On the fifteenth of the third month in early spring, Bai Mudan and three other girls born in the same month, all sixteen years old, bathed in the clear stream early in the morning. They carefully washed each other's bodies, comparing whose breasts were the largest and firmest, whose pubic hair was the thickest, and whose labia were the most delicate and smooth.

In comparison, the three girls all enviously agreed that Bai Mudan was more beautiful and charming than them.

As night fell, countless large torches lit with pine resin were already erected around the large lawn, illuminating it brightly. All the men and women had arrived, sitting or lying down, burning sacred fire and cow dung, drinking homemade aphrodisiac wine, laughing and waiting for the moment when the girls would be deflowered by the shaman, followed by the uninhibited ceremony.

Their tribal custom is quite strange. On the night of this "deflowering festival," no girl or woman in the tribe can refuse the advances of any man in the tribe. Therefore, the men of the tribe wait for this night every month to make love to the women they love but cannot usually have, including other men's beautiful wives and daughters.

This night is thus considered a wild sexual gathering. The more beautiful a woman is, the more men like her, and the more difficult it is for her. Often, she has to deal with ten or twenty men waiting in line each night until dawn before she can escape.

Perhaps the ancestors also considered this, so there is an ancestral rule: men also cannot refuse women's advances. This allows less beautiful women to have their pleasure and also reduces the burden on the beautiful women. Otherwise, with hundreds or thousands of men in the tribe waiting in line for a hundred or so beautiful women, the situation would be unbearable. Even so, the beautiful women in the tribe often have to use their hands and mouths to have sex with three or four men simultaneously to deal with the long queue.

The bright moon hung high, laughter never ceased. Bai Mudan and three girls, draped in light veils, sat by the sacred fire, awaiting their first sexual experience. Although they had already learned the general

outline from their mothers and sisters, they had never tried it before, and thus appeared nervous and uneasy. [The text then abruptly shifts to a seemingly unrelated passage about a torch circle and a girl's birth.]
