The Legend of Qin - Ji Yanran's Humiliation

The instigator of this was Gao Huan, the father of the founding emperor Gao Yang, who, although he did not personally ascend the throne , effectively controlled the Eastern Wei regime.
Gao Huan, courtesy name Heluhun, was born in 495 and died in 547. He was from Bohai. an entire day, He Shikai and Empress Hu remained in bed. How could the satisfied Empress Hu relinquish this handsome man who could fulfill her needs? He Shikai, to satisfy his ambition and desires, willingly became Empress Hu's lover.
Emperor Gao Zhan somehow learned of this affair. How could the emperor tolerate being cuckolded? He angrily demanded of Empress Hu why.
Empress Hu remained unmoved, stating that He Shikai was her lover. She retorted, "You, with your imperial power, seek pleasure outside daily and even possess your sister-in-law, Lady Li. You can do things that defy all reason and morality. I, in my prime, am living a life of widowhood; what's wrong with having a male concubine?" Caught up in her fervor, Empress Hu dragged Gao Zhan to Lady Li's court for judgment. Gao Zhan was helpless. The Emperor's debauchery with his sister-in-law and the Empress's sale of a male concubine gradually drew the ire of even the common people. Upright ministers in the court boldly offered their advice. Of course, they dared not directly point the finger at the Emperor, only saying, "He Shikai was a courtier of the
late Emperor, audacious and reckless, colluding with the Empress, corrupting the political climate, leading to chaos and moral decay throughout the land. Such a criminal deserves to be executed." The Emperor had a guilty conscience, and the Empress vehemently refused, so the matter was dropped. Emperor Gaozhan was quite fortunate in love, but his life was short; he died before the age of 36. Empress Hu and He Shikai's pleasure-seeking became even more blatant. At a palace banquet, some upright ministers, emboldened by the Empress Dowager's encouragement to drink, once again stepped forward to remonstrate, urging the Empress to severely punish He Shikai. But the Empress opened her eyes wide and shouted shrilly, "When the late Emperor was alive, I heard your lies; now you are deceiving me, a widow and orphan, and disobeying the late Emperor's last will and testament! I will not allow you to kill innocent people indiscriminately!"
Empress Dowager Hu's blatant defense of herself and her lover in the grand hall was a unique event in Chinese history. The ministers were humiliated, and the banquet ended unhappily.
Later, the increasingly arrogant He Shikai finally offended Gao Yan, the Empress Dowager's second son. Gao Yan was fierce and reckless, and in a fit of rage, he strangled He Shikai to death. Empress Dowager Hu was furious upon hearing this and had Gao Yan bound and taken to the execution ground for execution. Seeing his life was in danger, Gao Yan quickly confessed, "My uncle taught me to do this." Empress Dowager Hu released Gao Yan but ordered his uncle to be executed.

However, her lustful nature remained unchecked; she felt unbearable pain if she didn't indulge in debauchery for even a day. Empress Dowager Hu, through years of illicit sexual activity, had honed her skills to an extraordinary level. Whenever her clients were in a state of blissful ecstasy, they would ask her, "Why are you so skilled, surpassing all others?"
Empress Dowager Hu would proudly reply, "I learned the erotic arts of Xia Ji and Bao Si at the age of ten. Now, at forty, I have cultivated myself for thirty years, having slept with ten thousand men, hence this divine skill. Every time we meet, people think I am a virgin." When a client offered a large sum of money to take her away, she would smile and say, "Even if you took me, I wouldn't leave. Even returning to my former position as Empress wouldn't be as enjoyable as being a prostitute. My entire life has been devoted to this path."
The Empress Dowager's practice of running a brothel was unique in court history, and according to historical records, she even died peacefully. This is quite a remarkable story.
The Northern Qi dynasty, a notoriously decadent dynasty, perished with the invasion of the Northern Zhou, marking the end of its licentious lineage. But which dynasty throughout history was truly clean? The saying goes, "The Han dynasty was stinking, the Tang dynasty filthy, the Song dynasty unclear, the Yuan dynasty confused, the Ming dynasty slovenly, and the Qing dynasty snotty." The affairs within the imperial palaces of every dynasty were the most sordid.
Although the Northern Qi dynasty was short-lived, its emperors each displayed unparalleled courage and innovation, challenging traditional Chinese moral values. The Northern Qi dynasty fell, but its reputation as a beastly dynasty endures. Its licentious and incompetent rulers are remembered in history for their unique and unconventional behavior, becoming the subject of ridicule and lamentation for posterity.
