The Legend of Qin - Ji Yanran's Humiliation

The Northern Qi was one of the Northern Dynasties during the Three Kingdoms, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties period, founded by Emperor Wenxuan of Qi, Gao Yang. In 547, after the death of Gao Huan, who effectively controlled the Eastern Wei regime, his eldest son Gao Cheng continued to rule. Soon after, Gao Cheng was assassinated, and his younger brother Gao Yang succeeded him. Eight years later, Gao Yang usurped the throne from the Eastern Wei, establishing the Qi dynasty with the reign title Tianbao and its capital at Ye, historically known as the Northern Qi. In 577, the Northern Qi was destroyed by the Northern Zhou. It was a short-lived dynasty lasting only about thirty years.
Although the Northern Qi dynasty was short-lived, its emperors were all incompetent, tyrannical, and licentious rulers, earning the Northern Qi the title of a "beastly dynasty." The instigator of this was Gao Huan, the father of the founding emperor Gao Yang, who, although he did not personally ascend the throne , effectively controlled the Eastern Wei regime.
Gao Huan, courtesy name Heluhun, was born in 495 and died in 547. He was from Bohai. Emperor Gaozu of Northern Qi (posthumously honored by his son Gao Yang) was a relatively capable military strategist in history. He conquered vast territories for the Eastern Wei Dynasty through his conquests. During his reign, he focused on easing ethnic tensions, reforming the bureaucracy, and striving for the reunification of Eastern and Western Wei. He was also a statesman who followed the historical trend. However, this same warlord, after seizing military and political power in Eastern Wei, began to treat the powerless emperors like slaves of a conquered nation.
Gao Huan's greatest hobby was seizing and raping other men's wives and daughters, especially the empresses and princesses of the Eastern Wei emperors. The daughters of Erzhu Rong (Empress of Emperor Zhuang of Wei), Erzhu Zhao (Empress of Emperor Jianming of Wei), Zheng Dache (Princess Consort of Guangping of Wei), Lady Feng (Princess Consort of Rencheng), and Lady Li (Princess Consort of Chengyang)—all originally noble noblewomen—could not escape the fate of being raped and abused by the lewd warlord Gao Yang after falling into his hands.
Gao Huan did not personally ascend the throne; his eldest son, Emperor Wenxiang Gao Cheng, inherited his position. Lacking the luxuries of a ruler from another country, he abused his power in the court. His minister Xue Zhen's wife was exceptionally
beautiful, so he devised a pretext to send her away and had her abducted to the palace. Upon arriving at the palace, Gao Cheng neither flirted with her, nor offered her any gifts, nor offered sweet words of comfort. Instead, he simply removed his clothes and went straight to his goal. Xue,
initially somewhat suspicious, was startled. She hadn't expected Gao Cheng, who held the power of life and death in the court, to be so direct. Unwilling to submit to his lewdness and unwilling to be raped by Gao Cheng without understanding the situation, she was too weak to resist. She could only clench her legs and try to dodge, while Gao Cheng could only let his large penis thrust wildly between her legs. Her clothes were torn to shreds, but her tightly clenched legs prevented Gao Cheng from succeeding. In the midst of his haphazard thrusting, Gao Cheng lost control of his lustful impulses. With a wild, unrestrained thrust, he ejaculated, only to feel a sharp pain. Looking down, he saw that his penis had reached the entrance of Xue Shi's peach blossom cave, but she had gripped it tightly with her hands, her long fingernails tearing through his penis, causing blood and filth to gush out.
Gao Cheng flew into a rage, quickly stripping her completely naked and pinning her down on the imperial desk. How could Gao Cheng, whose penis was injured, let this defiant woman off easily? He held Xue Shi down and began to tear and bite wildly at her snow-white, round breasts. The poor Xue Shi struggled in agony, but the weak woman was no match for Gao Cheng. Enraged by Xue Shi, Gao Cheng even bit off one of her nipples. Xue Shi rolled on the ground, pleading and struggling, but how could the ferocious Gao Cheng let her off easily? Gao Cheng drew his sword and used the hilt and blade to beat Xue Shi mercilessly, leaving the once beautiful Xue Shi covered in blood, unable to get up.
Still not satisfied, Gao Cheng summoned the Court of Justice to punish Xue Shi. The Court of Justice, upon learning the details, refused.
Enraged, Gao Cheng beat the Court of Justice with the hilt of his sword, but still couldn't subdue him. Left with no other option, Gao Cheng personally ordered the execution of the entire Xue family to vent his anger. Since
the wife of an outsider hadn't allowed Gao Cheng to succeed, he turned his attention to his own family. Gao Cheng had a relative named Gao Shen. Gao Shen's wife wasn't beautiful, but she was petite and exquisite, known in the capital as the "Pocket Lady."
At a palace banquet, the Pocket Lady also attended. Being new to palace banquets, she was unaware of the darkness and depravity within the palace. To showcase her beauty, she dressed up carefully to appear more radiant. During the banquet, the lustful Gao Cheng, upon seeing the unusual Pocket Lady, was immediately attracted and began to seduce her. Consort Dugu, intimidated by Gao Cheng's lewd power, dared not act rashly. She endured him taking advantage of her on her lips, face, and arms before slipping out of the palace under a pretext to return home. Even after
Consort Dugu left, Gao Cheng's lustful desires remained undiminished. Consort Dugu's husband, Gao Shen, was a relative, and by seniority, Gao Cheng's elder. Having relations with his wife would be incestuous, but Gao Cheng held immense power; even the emperor's life and death were in his hands. He could sleep with the emperor's concubines at will. If he couldn't even get his hands on a relative's woman, where would his authority and dignity be?
He issued an edict summoning Consort Dugu to the palace to serve wine. Consort Dugu knew this was like throwing herself into a tiger's den, but dared not disobey. To avoid Gao Cheng's lustful gaze, she dared not dress as provocatively as before, covering herself completely before entering the palace alone.
Upon entering the palace, at the imperial table, Gao Cheng demanded that the miniature lady drink with him. She first drank three cups of strong liquor, choking and coughing incessantly, her face contorted in pain. Seeing her face flushed like a peach blossom, her eyes brimming with tears, Gao Cheng's drunken eyes gleamed.
He ordered her to pour him more wine, and as she approached, he pulled her onto his lap, caressing her entire body, his lewd hands leaving no spot untouched. The miniature lady was filled with anger, shame, and fear, but her strength was insufficient to resist. Her clothes and undergarments were torn off by Gao Cheng, her chastity seemingly lost. She struggled, begging for mercy and threatening suicide, but Gao Cheng, driven by lust and unbridled desire, was not easily frightened. Ignoring the diminutive woman's desperate pleas, he lewdly said, "If you dare disobey, I'll kill you and Gao Shen's entire family, and see if you'll comply."
With that, he ignored her, pried open her tightly closed legs, and thrust his long-erect penis inside her. The diminutive woman cried out in agony, knowing that disobedience would mean the extermination of her entire family, especially considering the recent tragedy of Xue Zhen's family. To protect herself, her husband, and her family, she dared not struggle any longer, forced to endure Gao Cheng, a junior even younger than herself, venting his perverse desires on her.
Watching the petite beauty beneath him moan and wail beneath his penis, Gao Cheng grew even more aroused, his thick penis ravaging every inch of her body. Never before subjected to such humiliation, she could only desperately beg, but each pleas only brought more perverse manipulation from Gao Cheng.
For two whole days and nights, the diminutive lady was toyed with by Gao Cheng's perverse desires on the dragon bed in the palace. Her delicate body was covered with scratches and whip marks, and her tender vulva was swollen and red from Gao Cheng's penetration. Gao Cheng's beast-like lust left this famous diminutive lady, renowned throughout the capital, battered and bruised before letting her go home.
From then on, the diminutive lady became Gao Cheng's plaything, summoned to the palace to be played with whenever he needed her.
It was naturally unpleasant for Gao Shen, the husband, to have his wife become someone else's plaything, but compared to execution and confiscation of property, the cuckoldry was bearable.
Generally, Gao Cheng didn't use cunning or enticement to win over any woman he fancied; he always used force. However, there were exceptions.
If he didn't even spare his own relatives, then there was even less reason to spare his own brother's wife. Gao Yang was his younger brother, and Gao Yang's wife, Li, possessed a beauty that could rival the most beautiful women in the world. It would be too damaging to his reputation to let such a beauty remain untouched. Perhaps out of consideration for his brother, he couldn't force her, so he devised a plan to lure her to the Imperial Garden.
He initially tried to entice her with small favors, but Li, a woman of experience, knew exactly what her elder brother's intentions were. She ignored him, hoping Gao Cheng would give up on her.
Enraged by this rebuff, Gao Cheng attempted to force himself on her, grabbing Li and dragging her into the flowerbeds to violate her.
However, Li, a former dancer, was agile and nimble, while Gao Cheng, weakened by years of debauchery, found it difficult to succeed. The two then engaged in a chase through the flowers and grass.
Despite his frail health, Gao Cheng had honed his physique through martial arts training in his youth. After a while, Li Shi, exhausted, was grabbed and dragged into the flower garden by Gao Cheng. Driven by lust, Gao Cheng stripped his sister-in-law naked, fearing she would escape, and used strips of his undressed clothes to bind her tightly. Li Shi tried to struggle to escape Gao Cheng's clutches, which only fueled his lust. His thick, hard penis showed no mercy, thrusting directly into Li Shi's vagina. Li Shi endured the thrashing of Gao Cheng's penis, roughly the same size as her husband's, inside her, screaming and struggling in pain on the grass. Li Shi, a former dancer, possessed a beautiful figure, and her tight vagina only amplified Gao Cheng's pleasure.
This was the first time Gao Cheng had encountered a woman who dared to resist him since his failed attempt to rape Xue Shi. Li Shi, like a leopard, was both beautiful and wild. Having tasted a new flavor, Gao Cheng thoroughly satisfied his lust with his sister-in-law. However, his already weakened state was severely damaged by this indulgence, and he fell ill and soon died, ending his licentious life.
With Gao Cheng's death, Gao Huan's other son, Gao Yang, seized power. Gao Yang, finally losing patience, became emperor himself.
While Gao Yang's brother, Gao Cheng, was also licentious, he kept his lust to himself. After Gao Yang came to power, the licentious bloodline of the Gao family was fully manifested in him. He not only raped and murdered his stepmother, Zhu Ershi, but also showed no humanity towards his own mother. If his mother argued with him, he would fly into a rage, strip her naked in public, and whip her naked body until she was covered in blood and begged for mercy.
On another occasion, out of sheer boredom, he gathered all the women of his clan in the palace, ordered them to undress, and then had his favorite ministers engage in group sex with them. He sat high on the platform, embracing women on either side, ordering each of them to perform a different act. Those with the most unusual moves would be richly rewarded, while those who failed would be executed on the spot.
With the emperor's decree, the threat of death, and the allure of beautiful women, how could Gao Yang's courtiers not be tempted?
Moreover, these once high-ranking noblewomen were unattainable to these petty thieves and scoundrels. Now, these once noble and proud women were like a group of wanton prostitutes
, naked and gathered in the hall for their defilement. How could these men not be excited? In an instant, they devised countless acts, the palace filled with the sounds of flesh churning and lewd moans rising and falling. These noblewomen had nowhere to hide, not even a piece of clothing to cover themselves, and could only allow these men, who had previously disdained to look upon them, to vent their excessive desires on their noble bodies.
There were many courtiers but few women. Many courtiers, having no women to enjoy, had to share them with others. Their once private vaginas and anuses, their once beautiful mouths, were now filled with these uneven, thick, and thin penises. Full breasts, delicate bellies, and round, firm buttocks were caressed and slapped by several rough hands. Amidst the mingled cries, lewd laughter, and wanton moans, they gradually lost themselves. Perhaps the only remaining vestige of clarity in their hearts was regret for being born into an imperial family… Gao Yang sat high on his throne, his bloodshot eyes fixed on the debauched scene in the hall. He drank and enjoyed the spectacle. Sharing the pleasures with the people, he naturally had no shortage of women by his side, and ended up taking over the miniature lady, the plaything his brother had seized. The poor, petite lady had escaped one danger only to fall into another. Having grown accustomed to being Gao Cheng's plaything, she had no choice but to submit to Gao Yang. However, her husband Gao Cheng's cuckoldry was intensifying. Watching his loved ones being raped by his favored courtiers, Gao Yang laughed maniacally, even jumping off the platform and pushing his favorites aside to personally demonstrate how to ravage women. He verbally praised those who performed well, but was less lenient with those who performed poorly, scolding, whipping, and even dragging them out for court beatings. In short, the utterly depraved Gao Yang had completely broken down and overturned human morality, determined to create a new world of debauchery.
If he treated his own mother and family this way, he certainly wouldn't spare his sister-in-law, Lady Yuan, the widow of his brother who had previously raped his wife.
Lady Yuan usually got along well with Gao Yang, and Gao Yang had always been polite to his sister-in-law. But this day, Gao Yang's lust overwhelmed him, and he stormed into Lady Yuan's Jingde Palace. Madam Yuan was overjoyed and hurriedly ordered wine and dishes to be prepared, intending to have a few drinks and chat with the new emperor to pass the time. However, seeing Gao Yang's murderous look, she was somewhat confused and hurriedly asked with a smile. Gao Yang then flipped the table and said, "Take off your pants!"
Madam Yuan smiled, knowing that Gao Yang was a lecherous man, but now that he was the emperor, he probably wouldn't act so improperly. So she said, "What's wrong with Your Majesty today? Why are you joking with your sister-in-law?"
Gao Yang wasn't joking with her. Seeing that Madam Yuan didn't move, he quickly took off his underwear, revealing a hard, large penis. This time, Yuan Shi truly understood. Her face filled with shame, she hurriedly covered herself with her sleeves, saying,
"Your Majesty, you are naked in broad daylight, why are you in such a hurry? Let your sister-in-law have a few drinks with you; then I'll serve you in bed, won't that be better?"
Gao Yang should have readily agreed to Yuan Shi's submissiveness, but the memory of his wife, Li Shi, being bound and raped by his brother made him unable to suppress his anger. If he were to act so gently and tenderly, he wouldn't be able to vent
his vengeful rage. Without letting Yuan Shi explain further, he pressed her down beside the overturned table, straddled her in a riding position, tore off her clothes, and thrust his penis deep inside her, fucking her with the force of a craftsman forging iron. Yuan Shi was completely unprepared, and having been deprived of lubrication for so long, now being brutally penetrated by Gao Yang's large penis caused her to scream like a pig being slaughtered.
Amidst Yuan's screams and moans, Gao Yang, thoroughly satisfied, fulfilled his desire for revenge. He raped his sister-in-law to vent his anger, finally ejaculating his semen into her womb. Yuan was completely overwhelmed by her brother-in-law's debauchery.
Satisfied, Gao Yang grabbed Yuan's hair and lifted her up, saying, "My brother raped my wife, so I'll rape you. An eye for an eye. You must obey me and serve me well, do you understand?" Without waiting to see if the exhausted Yuan could hear him, he threw her to the ground, leaving her prone on the floor stained with semen, vaginal fluid, and even blood, before stepping over her and walking away. From then on, Yuan, like the diminutive lady, became a plaything of Gao Yang, this debauched and somewhat mentally unstable emperor.
Addiction to possessing women of his own clan, Gao Yang didn't spare the wives of his two younger brothers, Gao He and Gao Jun. To save trouble and to prevent the tragedy of Lady Yuan from repeating itself in his own wife, Lady Li, after his death, Gao Yang went all out and simply ordered the deaths of his two brothers, taking their wives into the palace for his pleasure. Unfortunately, these two unfortunate princesses were neither as beautiful as Lady Yuan nor Lady Li, nor as petite as Lady Li, and were quickly bored by Gao Yang.
Since they were useless in the palace, and it would be unfair to leave them as widows, and also to show his imperial benevolence, Gao Yang bestowed these two princesses upon some elderly, widowed men in their forties among his retainers. On their wedding night, he sat high in the hall, watching the servants eagerly drumming on the bellies of his beloved concubines, laughing so hard he almost fell over.
Having already ravaged the women of his own clan, he lost interest in noblewomen until he encountered the Xue sisters, high-class courtesans. After taking them into his palace, he found new interest. The Xue sisters were skilled in seduction, finding them novel and exciting, especially her bedroom prowess as a courtesan, which was utterly captivating. This made his three thousand concubines seem utterly tasteless. The Xue sisters, on the other hand, were extremely promiscuous, sometimes spending days in bed with Gao Yang, driving him
to madness. Because of his numerous and promiscuous affairs, Gao Yang suffered from kidney deficiency and depleted essence, often unable to satisfy his lust. To quickly satisfy his lust, he would order his men to capture prisoners during his acts of debauchery. He would then watch them beheaded and mutilated, shouting and screaming before the sight of their bloodied and mangled remains, only then ejaculating. Sometimes, in his excitement, he would even get up and kill the palace maid he was ravaging with a single stroke.
The emperor was known for his lustful nature. To satisfy this peculiar desire, prison officials sent death row inmates to the palace to be used by Gao Yang (the emperor's father) for his lewd acts. The more women Gao Yang raped, the more people he killed, leading to a shortage of death row inmates. He had to use prisoners who had been detained but not yet sentenced to death; these prisoners were called "imperial prisoners." Wherever the emperor went, these "imperial prisoners" followed. Gao Yang's lustful desires could arise at any time, and he might rape women at any moment, thus requiring the killing of "imperial prisoners" to fuel his pleasure. Countless prisoners were unjustly executed for this reason, making this a unique phenomenon in Chinese history.
In his pursuit of newer thrills, Gao Yang often committed unimaginable acts of debauchery.
One morning, a resident surnamed Li, living near the Northern Qi palace, woke up to find a group of disheveled, naked men under the eaves. He immediately reported this to the authorities. When the local officials arrived with soldiers to arrest the group, they found one of them raping Li's daughter. The poor little girl, a budding flower, was brutally raped by the ringleader of the thugs. Her delicate petals were ravaged by the perpetrator's thick penis, causing her to scream in agony. The perpetrator laughed triumphantly, completely ignoring the local official who stood before him.
The official was enraged, thinking this beast had dared to rape a woman in broad daylight, and was about to order his arrest.
But before he could utter the word "arrest," the ringleader looked up and smiled. The official, terrified, immediately prostrated himself, crying out, "I deserve death!" The rapist was none other than the current emperor, Gao Yang.
Gao Yang let out a long howl, satisfied his lust, and, abandoning the unconscious little girl, stood up and prepared to leave with his group of naked guards and favored ministers. Looking back, Gao Yang saw the official's servile demeanor and the soldiers' fearful expressions, and his interest was piqued. He ordered local officials and soldiers to strip naked and line up, led by him, striding proudly into the bustling city. Upon encountering beautiful women, he pounced on them like wolves, assaulting them on the spot. Later, this escalated to raping anyone he caught, regardless of age or appearance.
Passing a brothel, Gao Yang ordered the prostitutes to be seized, one by one, and they were subjected to group sex in the street. The sounds of lewdness and debauchery filled the air. When they grew tired, they knelt in the street, their genitals exposed, displaying a depraved state. This unprecedented mass orgy continued until sunset and Emperor Gao Yang himself grew weary.
Gao Yang's depravity is unparalleled in the history of imperial debauchery! Due to his long-term rampant debauchery and horrific behavior, Gao Yang contracted a severe gastrointestinal disease, vomiting after every meal, and eventually turned to dust.
Even after Gao Yang's death, his family's depraved bloodline continued, and his absurd family traditions were perpetuated. After Gao Yang's younger brother, Gao Zhan, ascended the throne (Emperor Wucheng), he naturally wouldn't let his beautiful sister-in-law go. Like a rutting stallion, Gao Zhan would always chase after his sister-in-law, Lady Li, naked in the palace, raping her wherever he caught her.
Forced by Gao Zhan's threat to kill Lady Li's son, Prince Gao Shaode of Taiyuan, Lady Li endured humiliation and offered her body in exchange for her son's safety. Unfortunately, her son didn't understand his mother's suffering. After Lady Li became pregnant, Prince Gao Shaode returned home to visit his mother. Lady Li, heavily pregnant and ashamed, deliberately avoided seeing him. Her son mocked, "Do you think I don't know? You and your uncle had an affair and got pregnant, that's why you're ashamed to see me." Hearing her son's words, Lady Li was filled with shame and remorse, feeling utterly humiliated.
Later, she gave birth to a daughter, but without informing Gao Zhan, she drowned the illegitimate child. Upon learning of this, Gao Zhan flew into a rage, grabbing a steel knife and rushing forward, shouting, "You killed my daughter, why shouldn't I kill your son?" He then summoned Gao Shaode and, in front of Empress Li, hacked him to death.
Empress Li screamed and cried out for her dead son, as if possessed. Gao Zhan's fury intensified. In front of everyone, he stripped Empress Li naked and whipped her mercilessly with a horsewhip until she was nearly dead. He then stuffed her into a silk bag, ordered it carried out of the palace, and threw it into a ditch, declaring, "Whoever picks it up can rape it." It was a long time before Empress Li regained consciousness. Having personally experienced the filth and bloodshed of palace life, she was filled with despair and took a bullock cart to Miaosheng Temple to become a nun.
This illustrates the emperors of Northern Qi, all of whom were licentious and tyrannical rulers, and their wives mostly met tragic ends, being raped and exploited by others. However, there are always exceptions. Empress Hu, the mother of Gao Wei, the last emperor of the Northern Qi Dynasty, was a prime example. She was a concubine of Gao Zhan, the Prince of Changguang. When Gao Yang was in power, he abandoned the idea of taking her into his harem because of her ordinary appearance, allowing Gao Zhan to escape and become emperor. Empress
Hu was plain-looking, lacking any striking beauty, but as the saying goes, "ugly people often have many vices," and she was extremely licentious and fascinated by yin-yang practices. After Gao Zhan ascended the throne, perhaps out of gratitude for saving her life, she was made empress. It was precisely for this reason that Empress Hu had the opportunity to indulge in debauchery within the palace, plunging the country into disintegration and near collapse.
Her emperor husband, Gao Zhan, was a lecherous and lustful man. His first act upon taking the throne was to have an affair with his sister-in-law, Empress Li.
Gao Zhan and his sister-in-law enjoyed a life of pleasure, while Empress Hu was left alone in her chambers, feeling deeply lonely. If she were a virtuous and detached woman, it would be fine, but Empress Hu could not live a day without male companionship. Without a man to serve her, she felt restless and agitated, wanting to shout, to cry out, to yearn for a man.
That night, alone with the lamp lit, gazing at her reflection in self-pity, she summoned a eunuch to wash her feet, massage her shoulders, and rub her legs. Though the eunuch rubbed and caressed her body, almost everywhere, he remained unmoved, his eyes fixed straight ahead. Empress Hu was helpless against the eunuch dressed in men's clothing, so she waved him away and strolled aimlessly in the courtyard. Suddenly, a mournful, lingering sound drifted from afar. Who was playing the zither? A palace maid replied that it was a court official named He Shikai. "Oh? He Shikai can play the pipa so well? Summon him to my palace." Empress Hu perked up. She had seen He Shikai wield a halberd with great skill and had long admired this handsome and strong man. She just hadn't expected him to be in the palace. How could she resist such a tempting opportunity?
He Shikai arrived with his pipa. The Empress offered him a seat nearby and a cup of warm wine, then began to chat with him. Empress Hu, who hadn't had her period in a long time, immediately asked about matters of love and intimacy. He Shikai was still somewhat reserved, not daring to be too forward. Seeing his restraint, Empress Hu simply unbuttoned her robe and lifted her skirt, revealing her fair breasts and thighs, directly provoking him. He Shikai was a learned man, experienced in matters of the heart; how could he not understand the Empress's flirtatious advances?
In his responses, he went along with it, adding fuel to the fire. The two admired each other's charm, and by late at night, only the thin veil remained between them. The Empress, burning with desire and unable to wait, wanted to play the pipa with He Shikai, and she danced.
He Shikai played "High Mountains and Flowing Water Seeking a Soulmate," and the Empress gracefully danced around him, sometimes fiery and alluring, sometimes smiling with a glance back, sometimes mournfully humming. When the music reached its end, the Empress, like a bird returning to its nest, nestled into He Shikai's arms and began to sob softly.
He Shikai took the opportunity to carry the Empress to the bed, undressed her, and then tried to leave. How could the Empress let this opportunity slip by? She had no choice but to pull him into her arms. He Shikai, sensing the moment had come, leaped and pounced on her.
He Shikai was a romantic, amorous man, and Empress Hu was a vixen; their passion was intense, one speaking sweetly, the other lingering intently. He Shikai, skilled in wielding a halberd, wielded his penis even more skillfully, satisfying Empress Hu, who had long been deprived of pleasure. Her lingering moans and groans soon filled the palace. He Shikai's penis was indeed formidable, rendering the Empress Hu, the mother of the nation, indistinguishable from a common prostitute. Empress Hu, abandoning her dignity and imperial bearing, cried out like a thirsty harlot, indulging in unrestrained desire. For
an entire day, He Shikai and Empress Hu remained in bed. How could the satisfied Empress Hu relinquish this handsome man who could fulfill her needs? He Shikai, to satisfy his ambition and desires, willingly became Empress Hu's lover.
Emperor Gao Zhan somehow learned of this affair. How could the emperor tolerate being cuckolded? He angrily demanded of Empress Hu why.
Empress Hu remained unmoved, stating that He Shikai was her lover. She retorted, "You, with your imperial power, seek pleasure outside daily and even possess your sister-in-law, Lady Li. You can do things that defy all reason and morality. I, in my prime, am living a life of widowhood; what's wrong with having a male concubine?" Caught up in her fervor, Empress Hu dragged Gao Zhan to Lady Li's court for judgment. Gao Zhan was helpless. While raping his sister-in-law was a family tradition, getting her pregnant was unprecedented, and there was already discontent within the court. Now the Empress wanted to drag him before Lady Li for judgment. How could Lady Li have the face to judge? Knowing his guilt, Gao Zhan had no choice but to give in, tacitly acknowledging their affair. But
secrets don't stay hidden forever, not even in the highest palace. The Emperor's debauchery with his sister-in-law and the Empress's sale of a male concubine gradually drew the ire of even the common people. Upright ministers in the court boldly offered their advice. Of course, they dared not directly point the finger at the Emperor, only saying, "He Shikai was a courtier of the
late Emperor, audacious and reckless, colluding with the Empress, corrupting the political climate, leading to chaos and moral decay throughout the land. Such a criminal deserves to be executed." The Emperor had a guilty conscience, and the Empress vehemently refused, so the matter was dropped. Emperor Gaozhan was quite fortunate in love, but his life was short; he died before the age of 36. Empress Hu and He Shikai's pleasure-seeking became even more blatant. At a palace banquet, some upright ministers, emboldened by the Empress Dowager's encouragement to drink, once again stepped forward to remonstrate, urging the Empress to severely punish He Shikai. But the Empress opened her eyes wide and shouted shrilly, "When the late Emperor was alive, I heard your lies; now you are deceiving me, a widow and orphan, and disobeying the late Emperor's last will and testament! I will not allow you to kill innocent people indiscriminately!"
Empress Dowager Hu's blatant defense of herself and her lover in the grand hall was a unique event in Chinese history. The ministers were humiliated, and the banquet ended unhappily.
Later, the increasingly arrogant He Shikai finally offended Gao Yan, the Empress Dowager's second son. Gao Yan was fierce and reckless, and in a fit of rage, he strangled He Shikai to death. Empress Dowager Hu was furious upon hearing this and had Gao Yan bound and taken to the execution ground for execution. Seeing his life was in danger, Gao Yan quickly confessed, "My uncle taught me to do this." Empress Dowager Hu released Gao Yan but ordered his uncle to be executed.
The Empress Dowager lost her sexual partner, but not her sexual freedom.
Her lust compelled her to open her eyes even wider. She disdained seeking outlets within the palace, not because she feared the humiliation of the palace, but because the palace officials who were favored by her were vulnerable to attack by others, and if things went wrong, the relationship wouldn't last and she would be constantly worried. Besides, all the palace officials had wives, and without prolonged engagement, her lust would not reach its climax. She began ordering her subordinates to gather lewd monks and Taoist priests from all walks of life, using their preaching as a pretext to keep them in the palace for day and night debauchery. This open licentiousness made the already filthy palace even more obscene.
Unfortunately, this idyllic period was short-lived, and the Northern Qi dynasty met its end amidst this debauchery. In 557 AD, the Northern Zhou army invaded the weakening Northern Qi, and Emperor Gao Wei was killed.
Empress Dowager Hu was fortunate enough to escape the calamity, ending up on the streets. However, her lustful nature remained unchecked; she felt unbearable pain if she didn't indulge in debauchery for even a day. She gathered noble concubines and palace beauties, opening a magnificent brothel in Chang'an, where she served as both madam and prostitute. The business flourished.
Empress Dowager Hu, through years of illicit sexual activity, had honed her skills to an extraordinary level. Whenever her clients were in a state of blissful ecstasy, they would ask her, "Why are you so skilled, surpassing all others?"
Empress Dowager Hu would proudly reply, "I learned the erotic arts of Xia Ji and Bao Si at the age of ten. Now, at forty, I have cultivated myself for thirty years, having slept with ten thousand men, hence this divine skill. Every time we meet, people think I am a virgin." When a client offered a large sum of money to take her away, she would smile and say, "Even if you took me, I wouldn't leave. Even returning to my former position as Empress wouldn't be as enjoyable as being a prostitute. My entire life has been devoted to this path."
The Empress Dowager's practice of running a brothel was unique in court history, and according to historical records, she even died peacefully. This is quite a remarkable story.
The Northern Qi dynasty, a notoriously decadent dynasty, perished with the invasion of the Northern Zhou, marking the end of its licentious lineage. But which dynasty throughout history was truly clean? The saying goes, "The Han dynasty was stinking, the Tang dynasty filthy, the Song dynasty unclear, the Yuan dynasty confused, the Ming dynasty slovenly, and the Qing dynasty snotty." The affairs within the imperial palaces of every dynasty were the most sordid.
Although the Northern Qi dynasty was short-lived, its emperors each displayed unparalleled courage and innovation, challenging traditional Chinese moral values. The Northern Qi dynasty fell, but its reputation as a beastly dynasty endures. Its licentious and incompetent rulers are remembered in history for their unique and unconventional behavior, becoming the subject of ridicule and lamentation for posterity.
