Chapter 5 Desire - Thoughts

What you think about during the day, you dream about at night. Dreams are actually difficult to understand. Many times, even if you haven't
thought about it at all, all sorts of strange things will still appear in your dreams. However, the reason it's a dream is probably because of the
subconscious mind.

After the ordeal in his dream, Old Yang seemed to have figured something out. He tidied up the room briefly, but
then felt weak all over again
. When a person is too tense, suddenly relaxing will definitely make them feel weak all over. He had overdrawn his physical strength.

Gradually calming down, Old Yang no longer touched the cigarette pack on the bed. An aversion to tobacco
appeared in his heart. Extremes meet, that must be the principle. Since it was a dream, it meant it was a
warning. Since he had experienced it in the dream, he wanted to avoid it in reality. Old Yang pondered this, lay back down
on the bed, slowly closed his eyes, and fell into a deep sleep once again.

"You said you're going on a business trip again. Dad's been acting strangely since yesterday, and I haven't been able to get anything out of him. You're
gone for several days now, what am I supposed to do?" "Honey, I'm at my
wit's end. I heard what you said yesterday, but I still can't figure it out. Okay, I'll ask the neighbors later to see if they have any clues, but
time is too tight, so I'll have to trouble you, honey. I think Dad's health is fine, he's probably just tired." Xiaoyun and
Xiaozhi were changing their clothes. After yesterday's conversation, Xiaozhi roughly knew about Lao Yang's situation, but he didn't feel
anything was wrong . After all, he didn't have a fever or get sick, and his father said he was just a little tired. People get older, and
their health is definitely not what it used to be. Going to bed early once in a while doesn't mean anything.

He couldn't be indifferent to his father, but as a man, he couldn't be perfect in every way. He intuitively
felt that his father's health was fine. After all, his father had been like this more than once or twice since he was a child, so
he was more composed than Xiaoyun.

"You're right. I checked on Dad for a long time yesterday, and I didn't feel anything wrong with him,
but his behavior is very unusual. He didn't even come out for breakfast today. I need to take a day off and keep an eye on
him at home." Xiaoyun changed his clothes, tidied up the little one, and put her little backpack on.

"Okay, thank you for your hard work, my dear wife. I'll try to come back as soon as possible. Call me immediately if anything happens.
It's close by anyway; the intercity train is faster than the bus. I'll be right back if anything happens." Although he said this,
Xiaozhi was also very worried, but since it was just a rumor and there was no real evidence, he couldn't let it
interfere with his work. He turned around and hugged Xiaoyun, even giving her a few kisses, making her face turn red. She gently
hit her husband a few times.

The young couple were reluctant to part. Although they had only been apart for a few days, their usual affection made them
care about each other even more, and Lao Yang's situation made Xiaozhi even more reluctant to leave.

A new day began. Xiao Zhi ate breakfast, tidied up, and headed to the station. This business trip
was quite sudden; he received a call before he even woke up, saying there seemed to be some problems at the branch office. With
those doubts and reluctance, Xiao Zhi boarded the train south.

Xiao Yun was unusually late to school today. She dropped her daughter off at kindergarten first, then rushed to
the office, almost being late. Her colleagues were curious, as they rarely saw her so late,
so they asked her a few questions. Xiao Yun was now distracted, constantly replaying
her father-in-law's unusual behavior from yesterday. Just before class, Xiao Yun asked a colleague to cover for her while she took leave to go home
and see what was going on. She had no choice; even if she went to work, she wouldn't be able to teach properly, her mind filled
with worries. Taking leave and going home was much more comfortable.

Today was Friday, so there was relatively more work to do. She briefly explained things to the colleague covering for her in the office,
thanked them profusely, and then left the school gate to head home. On the way home, Xiaoyun felt that her father-in-law
's unusual behavior might be related to her. She had felt him watching her more than once yesterday,
but whenever she met his gaze, he would turn away. This left
her done something wrong? This didn't make sense; it was just her usual habits and actions. What was wrong?
Xiaoyun's head was starting to ache.

Her father-in-law was like a safe haven for the family, protecting them from the storms of life. Normally, she didn't notice anything, but
in times of trouble, big or small, he made her feel incredibly safe. Over time, she
had developed , a dependence that deepened with each passing year. Her husband, on the other hand
, was like a prince who provided her with fulfillment, doting on her and showering her with affection—her emotional anchor. The presence of the two
men gave her maximum sense of security. This sudden problem with her father-in-law
filled her with anxiety. Lost in thought, she hurried home, truly afraid
something .

People under extreme stimulation will inevitably experience rage. When the anger subsides, the body will be exhausted.
Old Yang fell asleep completely exhausted; he's now in a deep sleep,
as if his dreams have vanished. After experiencing that incredibly painful fear, Old Yang's subconscious has
begun develop immunity to such things. In other words, unconsciously, Old Yang has begun
to face such situations with equanimity. However, while still recovering his strength, Old Yang isn't fully aware of this.

Xiao Yun, rushing to her destination, didn't notice a man
staring at her with lustful eyes as she left the office. This man would later bring a
major , but that's all in the future; who can predict it now?

When she arrived back at her apartment complex, Xiao Yun was breathless. Although she exercises regularly and
is willing to endure some hardship to maintain her figure, she had been too rushed today. Just as she entered the complex,
she ran into her neighbors, the older folks, returning from grocery shopping. Seeing Xiaoyun's anxiety, they naturally wanted to ask,
which suited Xiaoyun well, as she also wanted to inquire about her father-in-law. So, the group slowly walked from the doorway, chatting as they went.
Although they exchanged snippets of information, it was mostly about who her father-in-law had recently argued with, or who he had a falling out with.

She paid, but it didn't feel like it made much of a difference. It's inevitable that people will have disagreements and arguments in their relationships , so Xiaoyun parted ways with her neighbors as she approached the building.

Everyone has moments of wisdom and moments of foolishness. Because she was so worried about her father-in-law's health,
Xiaoyun completely ignored Lao Yang's usual personality. Normally, hearing about her father-in-law arguing with the neighbors
would be big news, but today it seemed quite normal. Compared to her father-in-law's health,
she had no heart to worry about those trivial matters.

Finally, she returned home. After closing the door, Xiaoyun smelled a very pungent odor of smoke.
This smell is easy for non-smokers to detect, and Lao Yang had smoked
countless , making the smell even stronger. Xiaoyun, who was changing her shoes by the door, smelled this, which
reassured her somewhat. At least it proved that her father-in-law still had the energy to smoke; if he were sick, this certainly wouldn't happen
.

After changing her shoes, Xiaoyun breathed a sigh of relief. The worry she had felt on the way home gradually lessened.
She tidied up the living room and noticed that the breakfast she had left for her father-in-law on the table was untouched, and his
bedroom door was still closed, which meant that he was still inside.

After a quick wash in the bathroom, Xiaoyun changed into her pajamas in the bedroom. It was still
quite hot , so she turned on the air conditioner in the living room. As the cool air slowly wafted in, Xiaoyun
finally felt a little calmer. She glanced around the house and went back to the bedroom to throw her daughter's and husband's
clothes into the washing machine. But when she opened the lid, she saw Lao Yang's clothes.
The strong, distinctive smell of her father-in-law's sweat made her feel uncomfortable. She picked them up and
looked at them. Although the clothes were dry, there was still a faint but noticeable odor mixed with the sweat.
Xiaoyun pinched her nose and put the clothes back
in Finally, for some reason, Xiaoyun didn't wash her daughter's clothes with her; instead, she put them
in the basin next to her to soak. She thought she could just hand wash them later, since her daughter's clothes were easier to wash.

The quiet house was filled with the hissing sound of water filling the machine, adding a touch of
life . The food on the table had gone cold, and when she checked the time, it was almost ten o'clock. Xiaoyun put the food
in the refrigerator and checked the stock. She felt there was enough for the day. Usually, her
father-in-law would buy the groceries, so she would just cook whatever was available. Today was a special day, but there was still some food left over.

"Mom... what's wrong? I'm fine. Grandpa wasn't feeling well today, so I took the day off. Oh, okay,
then you and Dad can go to the kindergarten this afternoon. I'll call the kindergarten teacher. Okay, I understand. No need
. I'm probably just a little tired, nothing serious. Don't come over. Okay, we'll talk about it next time. Oh,
is Xiaoyan going on summer vacation? Oh, I understand, I understand. Okay, I'm hanging up." The washing machine had already started
spinning . Xiaoyun had just received a call from her mother. Her mother was worried that she was in class, so she called the school
office. That's how she found out that Xiaoyun had taken the day off. She thought Xiaoyun wasn't feeling well, so she
quickly . Actually, the main reason was that she missed her granddaughter and wanted to bring her over to stay with both of them this weekend. She briefly
explained everything on the phone. Today was Friday, so Xiaoyun hung up the phone, feeling a little bit of secret joy,
just like when she was a child and suddenly didn't have to go to school.

Xiaoyun has a younger sister, six years her junior, who just started her sophomore year of college and lives in the same city.
Sometimes during holidays, Xiaoyan (Xiaoyun's younger sister) comes to visit for a while. Since Xiaoyun's parents only have two children and no son
, they treat their daughter's child like their own granddaughter. Old Yang doesn't mind; they're all family.
So, the little one is often taken to stay with her grandparents for a couple of days. Today was no different;
the kindergarten teachers all know her, so Xiaoyun called the kindergarten and briefly explained.

Her main purpose in coming home today was to look after her father-in-law. While "looking after" isn't quite the right word, "
monitoring" even worse. Xiaoyun didn't go to her father-in-law's room immediately. Firstly, she didn't want to disturb him; she didn't
know why he smoked so much and hadn't gotten up yet, and she was afraid of inconveniencing him.
Secondly, she really disliked the pungent smell of cigarette smoke; it always made her uncomfortable. After a quick
chat outside, Xiaoyun checked the time; it was already 10:30. She then went to her father-in-law's door, gently
knocked a few times, and listened for a response. "Did he go out? Usually, a few knocks and Dad
will answer. Is he really sick?" As is often the case, concern leads to confusion. Just as she thought this,
panic returned. Forgetting everything else, she reached for the doorknob and forcefully opened the door.

"Ugh…cough cough cough…Dad…Dad?" The moment she opened the door, a very strong odor almost made
Xiaoyun faint. It wasn't just the smell of smoke, but also sweat and another indistinguishable odor. This smell
made Xiaoyun cough a few times. Humans have an ability to adapt, which is why the young couple hadn't
noticed . Being in the same environment, it's easy to overlook such smells. But
after coming back from outside, the smell became even more unpleasant.

Xiaoyun gently called to her father-in-law, seeing him still fast asleep, but his face was full of exhaustion. This
made Xiaoyun suspicious; what could have happened to make him so tired? She stood at the doorway,
carefully observing the person on the bed, pondering her questions. After a while, Xiaoyun felt
she could go inside. The airflow from the living room began to circulate, and
the smell quickly faded.

As the smell lessened, Xiaoyun could finally observe her surroundings more clearly. The floor
was littered with cigarette butts, and the airflow had stirred up ash. Near the cigarette butts, there were also
scattered bits of other debris. "What happened? Could something really serious be wrong?" "No,
I have to wait for my father-in-law to get up and ask him clearly. If this continues, something terrible might happen," Xiaoyun thought, turning to
grab a broom. When she returned, she cleaned up the cigarette butts and dust on the
floor , placing it on the desk. She didn't open the half-closed drawer; perhaps this was fate.
Normally, Xiaoyun would put things that should be in the drawer without hesitation. If she did
that, she would immediately discover the medicine Lao Yang secretly brought back from the doctor's visit, and the later incident would not have occurred.
Unfortunately, she didn't know what was wrong today. Perhaps she was too concerned about her father-in-law's health, so she simply
put it on the desk. The white packaging bag peeking out from the half-closed drawer went completely unnoticed by Xiaoyun.

Xiaoyun quickly cleaned the floor, quickly set it aside, and then grabbed a mop to wipe
the floor . The floor, which Lao Yang had made a mess of yesterday, was now clean again.

Xiaoyun emptied the trash she had gathered into the trash can in the room, turned around and
got a trash bag to change the contents. When she picked up the trash bag, a strong, fishy smell, characteristic of men, hit
her nostrils. Without even thinking, she knew what it was the moment she smelled it.
As someone with experience, she was certainly very familiar with the smell of male semen, but this was the first time she had smelled it like this, and it made
her feel like vomiting.

The feeling was fleeting, not entirely due to the smell of semen, as the room was filled
with other odors, and the combination was definitely unpleasant. She slightly lifted the bag, holding it
a little the pale yellow, semi-transparent garbage bag, there seemed to be a black object, and she could clearly
see some white liquid on it.

It was Old Yang's boxer shorts that he had carelessly thrown away that morning. He had intended to dispose of them secretly,
but he hadn't woken up until almost noon, which was when Xiaoyun discovered it.

The smell in the room gradually faded, but the fishy odor seemed to still linger. Xiaoyun pinched her nose with one hand,
slowly squatted down, and carefully opened the garbage bag with
the was thrown inside, still covered with cigarette butts and ash that Xiaoyun had just poured in. The white
liquid had a slightly yellowish tinge, and combined with the garbage covering it, made Xiaoyun's face flush.

She had definitely seen her husband's semen before, but this viscous substance was something she'd never seen before. Moreover,
she knew perfectly well it came from her father-in-law's body, and he was right there on the bed next to her.
Feeling guilty , Xiaoyun furtively glanced at the person on the bed. Thankfully, her father-in-law hadn't woken up. Now

that she knew what it was, Xiaoyun had no interest in figuring out why the liquid was like that. Her mind was completely blank; she felt like she couldn't think straight. She lowered her hand from her nose, then forcefully tied the garbage bag shut with both hands, making a tight knot. Slightly agitated, Xiaoyun slowly got up and sat down on the chair next to her. Her heart was pounding. She never imagined she'd discover such a secret in her father-in-law's room. No wonder he was so exhausted. Recalling the liquid on his underwear, how much had he ejaculated? Thinking about this, her face flushed . She silently berated herself, feeling she'd gone too far by studying her father-in-law's body . As the air circulated, the lingering smell in the room seemed to disappear. Sitting quietly, Xiaoyun 's eyes never left her father-in-law's body. She silently observed him, recalling the moments since she married into this family—his initial surprise, joy, satisfaction, and finally, happiness . This observation only made Xiaoyun feel increasingly uneasy. Her father-in-law was a man, not even 60 years old, and in such good health; he must have sexual needs. She had always only noticed his physical appearance, never considering his private life. As a young woman, even when caring for her father-in-law, she wouldn't have thought about his sexuality. This was quite common in this country, and older people were often ashamed to discuss such matters. Therefore, it wasn't just Xiaoyun; many families, in fact, the vast majority, completely ignored the issue of their elderly parents' sex life. If he had a partner, it would be alright, but her father-in-law had endured this for so many years. She wondered if always lived like this. Xiaoyun was still thinking about this, though her face was burning hot. As someone with a higher education, she was much more open-minded about these things than the average person, and she could understand these issues more clearly. This was concern, not disrespect. Even though her father-in-law didn't say anything or do anything excessive , it didn't mean he didn't need it. Now that things had come to this, Xiaoyun, with her above-average intelligence, was well aware of the connections these thoughts would make. She didn't want to think about it, but she had to, because it was an urgent problem. It had only been one day, and her father-in-law was already this exhausted; if this continued, the consequences would be unimaginable. Although unwilling, Xiaoyun had already formed her own judgment, connecting the events of yesterday . First, upon arriving home yesterday, she noticed her father-in-law staring at her, his gaze seeming off. However, because he was family, she only briefly considered it and didn't dwell on it. She didn't think much of what happened next. When serving dishes in the kitchen, her father-in-law's hands would intentionally or unintentionally touch her hands and arms. Also, when leaving the kitchen, his body seemed to be pressed against her buttocks . She initially thought it was due to his age and the small kitchen space, so even though she noticed, she didn't think much of it. Finally, when handing her a bowl of rice, when Old Yang completely covered her hand with his own, she felt as if he had touched it with a trembling motion. The truth was clear: after piecing together the clues, Xiaoyun finally understood that these seemingly unintentional actions were all masked by Old Yang's deliberate actions. This realization not only made Xiaoyun feel ashamed but also bewildered. She finally understood the meaning behind Old Yang's gaze—it was the typical look a normal man gives a beautiful woman: possessiveness.
