**************** ... Hope you enjoy reading! Please leave lots of comments ! ********** ... She hadn't eaten lunch, head down, dragging her suitcase and backpack under the blazing sun. A parasol hung on the side of her backpack, but she didn't take it out. The subway was packed at midday; she'd have to transfer twice to get to the airport. The surroundings were bustling with noise—talking, footsteps, the rumble of subway trains arriving. Chen Mo felt a heavy weight on her head; she couldn't lift herself up. After passing through security, she sank into a seat in the departure lounge. People hurrying past or waiting nearby were either looking at their phones or making calls. After a long, dazed look, Chen Mo picked up her phone and dialed. "Sorry, the number you dialed..." She painstakingly pressed a few keys, only to hear a mechanical reply. Unwilling to accept it, she tirelessly repeated the dialing motion. Although she still didn't know what to say, she refused to accept the cold rejection on the other end. Was this how it ended? After so many twists and turns to be together, it was all ruined by her own rash decision. Chen Mo dejectedly boarded the plane and sat down heavily. It wasn't disbelief, nor was it harboring any suspicion. The figure she had always watched from afar came to her side and embraced her tightly. This happiness caught her off guard. Afraid that if she didn't hold on tight, it would slip through her fingers, she clung tightly, with all her might , until she tore her skin. The flight attendant seemed to be making an announcement. Chen Mo felt a buzzing in her ears. She sank into a quagmire . Heartbreak and despair sprouted tiny hands, pulling her deeper and deeper. "Hello, I'm sitting inside... Chen Mo?!" Chen Mo, her eyes red, looked up in response. "Oh, Liao Ran." *** *** *** *** Since Liao Ran sat down, Chen Mo had maintained a stiff posture, turning her head away and stubbornly holding back tears, even though they were already welling up in her eyes. Not wanting others to see her in such a disheveled state, Chen Mo carefully maintained her balance, teetering on the edge of a cliff Her eyes were red and swollen, and she blinked uncomfortably, tears unexpectedly falling. "Ugh, even you won't do what I want." Chen Mo angrily wiped her eyes, but the tears only flowed like a burst dam, unstoppable. "Here." Chen Mo lowered her eyes, glancing out of the corner of her eye at Liao Ran handing her a pack of tissues. Out of politeness, she didn't immediately take it. Seeing that her eyes were already smudged from rubbing, yet she hesitated pointlessly, Liao Ran took one and reached out to wipe her eyes. Chen Mo was startled, staring at him wide-eyed, and shrank back. Liao Ran's hand awkwardly hung in mid-air, and he could only smile helplessly, "I didn't mean anything by it, it's just not good for you to get off the plane with a smudged face." Chen Mo lowered her head slightly and took the tissue he offered. "Going home for the holidays?" Liao Ran asked tentatively. Chen Mo nodded. "The holidays start so early now. When I was in school, the college would drag out the exams until the very last minute before the official holiday deadline ." Liao Ran paused, and seeing that Chen Mo didn't seem inclined to respond, continued, "You guys have air conditioning now, how lucky! Back then, our whole dorm only had one fan, it was a real hell of studying ..." Although he kept rambling on and on, strangely, Chen Mo didn't find it annoying. It seemed better than being alone, like a crack being torn open in the gloom that had been gathering around her, letting in a gentle breeze. Although it couldn't compare to the warmth of the sun, it calmed her down a bit. Chen Mo listened quietly, her sobs subsiding, but she still didn't speak. Soon after, the flight attendants started serving drinks. Chen Mo, exhausted from crying, asked for a glass of water. "You and your boyfriend had a fight, didn't you?" Chen Mo almost spat out the water he was about to drink, staring at Liao Ran in disbelief. "I only asked because you seemed a bit better. Before, your face looked like a dead person's." "How did you know?" Chen Mo opened his mouth, then let out a reply. "The words 'heartbroken' are written all over your face. Only a blind person wouldn't notice." Liao Ran breathed a sigh of relief when Chen Mo spoke, carefully trying to ease the tension. "Oh." Chen Mo touched his face and didn't say anything more. "Why don't you tell me? It's better than keeping it bottled up inside." Liao Ran gently encouraged him.

Chen Mo didn't want to speak, after all, she and Liao Ran weren't close enough to share their innermost thoughts. As she turned
to refuse, she was unexpectedly met with Liao Ran's genuinely concerned eyes. She paused slightly,
her heart, weary from crying, inexplicably softened, and her nose stung again.

Seeing Chen Mo about to cry, Liao Ran panicked immediately, clumsily apologizing repeatedly, "I'm sorry,
I'm sorry , don't cry, I was wrong, I won't ask..."

Chen Mo looked at him, and tears suddenly streamed down her face. "We broke up."

Even Chen Mo herself couldn't understand why she told Liao Ran this, but she did. She only briefly
mentioned that there had been a misunderstanding between them, and they had hastily broken up.

Although Chen Mo didn't elaborate, Liao Ran could see that she didn't want to let go. Not knowing the details, he couldn't
comfort he could only advise Chen Mo to calm down, and that the misunderstanding would be easier to resolve when both of them had calmed down
.

"So you're saying he turned off his phone because he was angry with me?" Chen Mo was a little confused from crying. "If he stays
angry and can't calm down, the misunderstanding will never be cleared up, and then we'll really break up."

Liao Ran sighed inwardly. Sure enough, girls in love are the most foolish. "No way, don't I understand
men ? It's just a small misunderstanding. As long as he sees so many missed calls, he'll definitely soften. Besides..."
He hesitated for a moment, swallowing back the "Besides, you're so cute."

Chen Mo didn't notice the unfinished sentence and nodded slightly, relieved.

"I promise, you'll definitely be able to contact him within three days." Liao Ran didn't know where his confidence came from
, but seeing Chen Mo's brow slowly relax, he couldn't help but feel happy.

The plane had a layover in Shanghai. Liao Ran's journey had reached its end, while Chen Mo had to continue.
As , Chen Mo thanked him again, "Thank you. It feels so much better to have someone to talk to."

"It's nothing. This might be the last time we speak face-to-face. I'm happy to have been able to help you."
For some reason, these words sounded more poignant than he had imagined. Liao Ran was surprised even after saying them, but
when he saw Chen Mo's bright eyes, he suddenly understood the source of his sadness.

"Why do you say that?"

"The company is transferring me to Australia. I took a long leave to visit my dad at H University. I'm back in
Shanghai to pack up, and I'll be leaving in a few days."

"I didn't realize you had such a bright future ahead of you." Chen Mo joked lightly. "Although we haven't known each other for
long, I'm still very happy to have met you. Take good care of yourself while you're away, and have a good time."
Chen Mo sincerely wished him well.

"Hey, wait a minute." Liao Ran called out to Chen Mo, who was about to leave, and took a few steps forward. "Can I hug you?"

Chen Mo responded with a "Huh?" sound, somewhat at a loss.

"Haha, never mind, never mind." Liao Ran shrugged, not wanting to make Chen Mo feel awkward. "I didn't think it through, I just
said it offhand, don't take it to heart..."

Chen Mo noticed a hint of disappointment in Liao Ran's
eyes
. Thinking that since they were unlikely to see each other again, why not give him a hug before parting? Besides, she was genuinely grateful to him on the plane. Chen Mo smiled indifferently and suddenly opened his arms to hug Liao Ran, who was still talking.

Liao Ran was startled and instantly fell silent.

"Consider it a parting gift from me." Chen Mo gave her a light hug and walked away from Liao Ran.
"See you again someday." She blinked, waved, and walked in another direction.

Liao Ran took a while to react, standing there watching her receding figure, and smiled faintly.
"Yeah, see you again someday."

Chapter Twenty-Nine: Hopeless Love

As soon as Chen Mo stepped off the plane, he saw his mother waiting to pick him up. Even though it wasn't her first time coming home for vacation,
her mother was still as excited as a child, waving her hands vigorously as if afraid she wouldn't see.

"Here, let me take this." She grabbed the suitcase from Chen Mo's hand and even pretended to grab her backpack.

"These aren't heavy, I can carry them myself." Chen Mo smiled and took her mother's arm, but still
couldn't resist , so she gave up the suitcase.

"Your dad is still parking the car outside. There was a traffic jam on the way here, and I was worried I'd be late picking you up.
I told him to leave early... Huh? Wanwan, why are your eyes red?"

Chen Mo panicked. She had clearly looked in the mirror for a while before getting off the plane, so why were they still so red? "I...
I slept for a while on the plane, and probably rubbed my eyes when I woke up. Mom, why are you still calling me by my nickname? Isn't there
a saying that you shouldn't call someone by their nickname after they turn eighteen?" Chen Mo quickly changed the subject.

"Who said that? I've never heard of that. Your grandma still calls me by my nickname."

"Haha, okay, okay, Wanwan will listen to you." Chen Mo leaned her head against her mother's shoulder, seeing her father waving from a distance after parking the car
. She felt the weight that had been pressing on her heart lighten a bit. She took a deep
breath, pursed her lips, and thought, "It's so good to be home.

" *** *** *** ***

She had once read in a book that people have an average of seven dreams each night, lasting from tens of minutes to one or
two hours. When a dream ends, the eyeballs move frequently, indicating the arrival of a new dream. Chen Mo
didn't know what kind of movements had occurred under her thin eyelids in the darkness, nor could she remember
what , but she definitely felt extremely tired from tossing and turning all night.

When she opened her eyes, it was almost noon. She stared at the alarm clock on the bedside table in disbelief for a long time
before getting up in a daze. Her parents had already gone to work. She wandered aimlessly to the bathroom. The mirror in front of the sink
was sparkling clean, and she could clearly see faint traces of tears at the corners of her eyes.

What happened? Chen Mo leaned closer, puzzled, and after a long pause, realized they were tear stains.
Had cried in her sleep last night? She lowered her head and chuckled twice, then turned on the tap and splashed water on
her face. She didn't even have the strength to be sad anymore.

Although she hadn't eaten much last night, she wasn't hungry at all. She glanced at the dining table and
sat on the nearby piano bench.

This piano hadn't been touched in six months.

Chen Mo sighed inwardly, lifted the lid, and played a few notes. The music was interspersed with hissing noises, sounding...
It wasn't very comfortable. She stopped playing and silently stared at the black and white keys. Time flies by so quickly that it's
almost , and what's even more frightening is how everything changes quietly without you realizing it, just like this piano
. By the time you notice, the notes are already out of tune. But a piano can be tuned and adjusted. Chen Mo stroked the black lacquer finish,
closed her eyes helplessly, but the rest was probably beyond repair.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Chen Mo was startled and quickly got up to answer it.

"Wanwan, are you up?" It was her mother calling.

"Yes, I'm up."

"I called you before I went to work, but you didn't wake up, so I put the food in the rice cooker. Have you eaten?"

"I'll eat in a bit." Although Chen Mo didn't plan to eat, she didn't want her mother to worry.

"I noticed you didn't eat much last night, so I made it a little light
. I'll cook you something nicer when you get home tonight," her mother instructed. "Hey, why isn't your phone on? I called you earlier, but it was always off. I
thought you hadn't gotten up yet."

Actually, Chen Mo had only just woken up, but she didn't say much, only replying, "I forgot to turn
it on. I'll get it on in a bit." After hanging up, Chen Mo mechanically went to get her phone, pressed the power button, and
tossed it onto the table. She slumped onto the sofa, staring blankly at the boot screen.

The phone vibrated a few times. It was probably a missed call notification from her mother, which Chen Mo ignored.
But the text message notifications kept ringing, vibrating continuously for a long time.

Had her mother called so many times? Confused, Chen Mo picked up her phone, unlocked it, and stared at the screen, suddenly
stunned.

It was He Wenbo.

It seemed he had been calling since around 10 PM last night, a total of six times. Chen Mo felt herself
suddenly awake, her sluggish brain immediately starting to work. Why did he call? Chen Mo stared at her phone, unsure of what it meant. She got up and paced

restlessly , her gaze still fixed on the call log. Did he have something to say to me? What did he want to say? Chen Mo suddenly remembered Liao Ran's words from yesterday, and a strange hope welled up within her. She had thought Liao Ran was just comforting her, but could he really be right? Had He Wenbai softened? Her recent low spirits made Chen Mo crave hope like plants yearning for sunlight . She didn't have time to think things through; she was instantly overwhelmed by the hopeful thought. So we won't break up? Will we be like before? Everything will be like before. Chen Mo fell into a morbid delusion, a smile unconsciously creeping onto her lips, as if He Wenbai was already standing before her, with a warm smile, opening his familiar arms to her. She rushed forward recklessly. "Ouch!" A sharp pain snapped Chen Mo back to reality; she had bumped heavily into a wall. As if she had discovered something terrifying, her hand trembled, and the phone fell to the ground. " Am I stupid? Have I lost my mind?" Chen Mo covered her ears, her eyes welling up with tears. What about being soft-hearted? What about making up? Clinging to such fantasies after everything has come to this—have I become abnormal? In this relationship, Chen Mo was far more deeply entangled than she imagined, to the point that she couldn't escape the hopelessness she felt trapped in. "Beep beep beep, beep beep beep." The phone seemed to be ringing again. Chen Mo huddled on the ground, covering her ears, unable to move. The phone rang for a while before finally quieting down. She didn't want to answer; she didn't want to see anyone now. "Beep beep beep, beep beep beep." The phone, which hadn't been quiet for long, vibrated again. Chen Mo turned around, her back to the phone. This repeated for an unknown amount of time, but the phone showed no sign of giving up, vibrating incessantly. Annoyed, Chen Mo grabbed the phone and pressed the answer button without even looking at it. "Hello," she said immediately, her tone filled with impatience. The other person was silent for a moment, then spoke, "Mo Mo." *** *** *** *** From the moment Chen Mo hung up the phone, she hadn't stopped running. She ran out of the house, ran to hail a taxi. She couldn't rest for a moment, afraid that if she stopped, she would find that it was all an illusion again. She didn't even wait to grab her change; she jumped out of the car and ran into the airport. The arrival hall was full of people picking up and disembarking. The rumbling of suitcases and various figures weaved through her vision. Airport announcements echoed repeatedly, the overlapping sounds and images like a mirage. She anxiously looked around, panting heavily, almost driven mad. Suddenly, a hand grabbed her as she was about to run away again. Chen Mo turned around sharply. Her hair was a little messy, her eyes showed obvious fatigue, and her chin had a slight stubble of stubble. "...Mo Mo." Her voice was dry and hoarse. Chen Mo stood frozen in place. At that moment, time stopped. [To be continued]
