The Story of Mature Woman Sally - Continued

Time passed peacefully, and it was Friday afternoon. I was home alone, which gave me the opportunity to tamper with the phone. After fiddling with it for a while, I finally installed the bug. Now, no matter who she was talking to, no matter what she was planning, I could get the information without her knowledge. Of course, not directly, but through Granger's friend Henry, who provided the device and through him to know the specific content of my wife's calls.
On Monday, I went to work and was busy all day. But I was very curious to know what the bug had recorded. After asking Henry, I learned that apart from some normal calls, nothing unusual had been found. The little device Henry had me install was very effective; he had studied electronic communications and had worked for the local telecommunications company.
Back home, Sally and I started talking again, but it was just about trivial household matters. I felt I didn't need to pretend, but our relationship had clearly become very distant. In the following weeks, we even had sex twice, breaking my vow to never have any contact with her again, but there was nothing to complain about.
Those two sexual encounters were completely accidental, without any prior planning, and both were initiated by Sally. But I am indeed a guy with a very strong sex drive, or perhaps my willpower is rather weak, so who cares!
That day, we were sitting at the dining table eating when she said, "Hey, Reed?"
"What is it, Sally?" "
Reed, it's been over a month since you ran away last time, but we haven't had a proper talk. Can we talk now? Are you willing?"
During the time I was away from home, I did things that I felt guilty towards her, and after returning, I continued to keep in touch with that prostitute named Kelly. Kelly and I had a fairly good relationship. Although I hadn't had sex with Kelly since that crazy time I had with Granger and those two prostitutes, we had still met a few times and eaten together, and she had given me a lot of emotional comfort.
I replied dismissively, "Actually, we've already talked about it, Sally. I know our relationship has been a bit tense these past few weeks, so it's good to talk about it now."
But we sat facing each other at the table, both staring at our teacups, and neither of us spoke. A terrible silence.
“Speak, Sally, you go first.”
“Red, first of all, I want to apologize again for what I did,”
she said. “My behavior was immoral and unforgivable, including the things I said. But I also want to ask for your forgiveness, even if you don’t want it now, I hope you will forgive me in the future.”
“I can accept your apology, Sally. But how do I know if you will sleep with him or other men in the future? I mean, if I still can’t satisfy you sexually in the future, how can you live peacefully with me? How do you explain what you said to that man on the phone that day? You told him I was just your meal ticket.”
“Oh my God, it’s not like that, Red. I don’t know why I said that. Oh, wait, maybe I know why I said that. What I meant was that you are the man in this world who can take care of me, you make me feel safe, you provide me with clothes and food, so I told him you are my meal ticket. But that’s not all there is to our marriage, Redkel. You are indispensable to me, to our family, you are the most precious thing.”
"And what about him? What is that man to you?"
"Nothing, Red. He meant nothing to me before, and he means nothing now. I know you'll understand that."
"But you made plans with him on the phone that day to make love again. Are you saying you won't go to him now?" "
Yes, I just want to tell you, my husband, never again, never!" "
So, if I decide to forgive you and forget about it, will I never find out about you having any affairs with him or any other man again?"
"Yes, never again."
Her voice was so loud it almost made me fall off my chair. Seeing my embarrassment, she couldn't help but giggle: "I said no, absolutely not, never, I will never betray you, Redkl."
I listened, thinking. Yes, I understand. Some men probably don't understand why I'm in so much pain, because they don't love as deeply as I do, and feel the pain as intensely. My needs, my emotions, my dreams are all lost in my tears, a torrent of emotion. My heart was torn to shreds by my wife's infidelity, but I didn't need pity. I thought I should give her another chance.
I reached out my hand, and she took it. I pulled her towards me, and she knelt before me. I cupped her face in my hands.
"Sally, I want to believe you, I believe you. But I don't know if I can believe you, I don't know if I can forgive you, at least not now. I don't know if I can satisfy you… Besides, I'm disappointed in myself for not being able to learn to trust you again. But deep down, I still love you. Despite all the painful things that have happened, my feelings for you haven't changed. I want to try again,"
I said, feeling love return to my heart, though my body still trembled with fear and confusion.
"Oh my God!"
Sally screamed, laughing as she threw herself into my arms. We kissed and embraced tightly, and for a moment, all the unhappiness seemed to vanish. We rediscovered love, at least that's what I thought.
After a while, I released her because I still had something to say: "Sally, I need to say one more thing, and you have to believe me, you really have to believe me, Sally, Sally, if I'm wrong, if you betray me..."
I stopped, staring into her eyes: "Let me tell you, even the highest mountain in the world isn't as high as my vengeful rage. Did you hear me, Sally? Did I make myself clear? Do you believe me? I never want to be hurt like this again, you know?"
"Yes, my dear, I understand,"
she said.
I knew that her answer at this moment was from the bottom of her heart, but I didn't know if she would succumb to temptation at other times and in other places. I had doubts, though I was full of hope.
The next day, I went to Granger and Henry and asked them to temporarily stop monitoring Sally if she stopped contacting that man. But I told them to continue searching for information about that man; I wanted to find an opportunity to teach that guy a lesson.
"Henry, have you found what you need?"
I asked him.
"That guy is definitely a thorn in your side, isn't he?"
he said. "Of course I can find what you need. If he dared to spit on the sidewalk, I'd kick him in the ass. Nothing he does escapes my notice."
"Redkel, though I shouldn't say it,"
Granger said, "Sally isn't a woman you can easily trust. Remember that, and don't let her play you again."
I looked at him and downed my drink in one gulp. "I understand, Granger. But I don't know what to do next. If she doesn't cheat again, I'll forgive her. But if she betrays me again, I won't let her get away with it."
The three of us raised our glasses, like warriors about to go into battle, ready to fight.
The next few weeks went quite smoothly. I went to work, came home, made love, and fulfilled my responsibilities as a husband and father. Looking back, life at home was more comfortable, peaceful, and happy—perhaps more of a comfort. Meanwhile, I maintained contact with Kelly; I was very dependent on her, yet she never made any demands of me. Kelly was definitely an understanding and intelligent woman.
On Monday afternoon, I received a call from Granger and then went to see him and Henry.
“We’ve got information on that guy,”
Henry said. “He’s cheating on you with several women at the same time, not just your wife, Reid. And most of the women he’s involved with are quite wealthy, and many of them pay him for sex. They basically write him checks after the sex transaction, and he doesn’t report those earnings for income tax. I have a few friends who work at the IRS, and they’re all quite interested in this guy. Apparently, he’s not only manipulating women but also suspected of tax evasion. He has to pay for this.”
I rubbed my hands together excitedly and said, “Great! Let’s get started!”
My two friends looked at each other strangely. Granger said, “There’s something else…”
He then fell silent for a long time. Granger and Henry seemed unsure of where to begin.
My heart sank. I knew it must be related to my wife, so I said, “She’s not with him again, is she?”
My voice was filled with sorrow.
“Reid, I’m so sorry,”
Granger said. “I know you really want a good outcome.”
He pushed a large envelope toward me. “There are some photos inside.”
“Do you think I want to see them?”
I said irritably.
“No. Give these photos to your lawyer; that’s enough,”
he said.
I nodded. I didn’t know if I wanted to see those photos, but I definitely didn’t want to see what I least wanted to see in front of my friends. “Thank you so much,”
I said. “Thanks to you all, my good friends.”
“Reid, on a tangent, are you still in contact with Kelly? I called her to ask her out, but she said she’s quit that line of work. She said she’d found a man she loved. When I asked her if that man was you, she suddenly started crying. Do you know what happened?”
“No, probably just a coincidence,”
I said. “But I’ll try to keep in touch with her. But right now…”
“Yes, yes, I understand. Let’s deal with the immediate problem first,”
he said.
I nodded.
“Reid, we’ll continue to help you. I assure you, that bastard will pay for his actions sooner or later, and this isn’t over yet,”
Granger said.
“And her!”
I said angrily, “She’s destroyed my trust in it, destroyed the last chance I gave her.”
Granger silently nodded, and Henry didn’t say anything, just took another sip of his drink. But I could tell they all agreed with me; we had to make that bastard woman pay.
I went back to the house, which just a few hours ago was my home, our home. Now, it felt like a tomb, a chilling tomb. It was already afternoon; I’d usually be at the office at this time. Sally hadn’t expected me to be back. She was sitting in the backyard, drinking a beverage, seemingly relaxed. Now wasn’t the time to confront her and her lover, so I remained extremely calm.
I took a beer from the fridge and sat with her in the backyard, deciding to relax as well.
In a few days, our 25-year marriage will end. It's a very sad thing, but I don't feel particularly sad. I feel—I don't know how I feel right now—maybe I'm already indifferent.
"Hi,"
Sally said, watching me sit down next to her with the bottle of wine in my hand. "You're back so early today!"
"Yeah, I went out to run some errands and didn't come back to the office afterward,"
I said, secretly surprised at how easy it was for me to lie. She's been lying to me for a long time, about so many things, and I hope my lying doesn't become a habit. I leaned back in my chair, tilted my head back, and finished the bottle of wine, thinking about Kelly and chuckling to myself. Oh, I feel good right now, though I don't mean anything by it, I really do feel great.
"How was your day?"
I asked, wondering if she'd slept with that guy.
"Not bad. I cleaned the room, did some laundry, nothing special. Then I just sat here and relaxed,"
she said.
I didn't respond to her, and walked into the house, her following behind. The night was no different from many other days; I had many things to do tomorrow. First, I needed to see my lawyer, Carl Feldman, the top lawyer in our city, especially skilled in divorce cases.
Early the next morning, I arrived at Carl's office. We'd known each other for years, often chatting and drinking together. Our shared hobby was playing the rocking horse game.
"So, you've come to me because you really want a divorce?"
he asked bluntly.
"Yes, she's cheating on me, and she shows no signs of stopping. I've caught her once, and a few friends are helping me gather evidence of her infidelity."
With that, I handed Carl the envelope Granger had given me.
He opened the envelope and looked at the photos he pulled out. "My God, you must be furious to see these photos!"
"I haven't seen them."
He stared at my face for a long time before saying, "Smart. Unless you don't care, it's best not to look at these photos."
I nodded and said, "I can imagine those things even without seeing them, and just imagining them is enough for me."
We discussed the entire divorce proceedings carefully. As the innocent party, I would gain the greatest benefit throughout the process. I needed to confirm that my bank savings, car registration, insurance accounts, etc., were all in my name. First, I needed to go to the bank to complete the relevant procedures.
At the bank, I transferred ninety percent of our savings to my newly opened account, leaving only enough for the next few months' household expenses. I'm prepared to give up our current house, because it holds too many painful memories, and the mortgage isn't paid off. If she wanted to sell it, she wouldn't get much money. Then, I finished up with the rest.
I need to inform my daughter, Jenny, about the changes at home, but I'll wait until after the divorce proceedings with this unfaithful woman are finalized. Carl assured me that he'd have the necessary documents ready in just three days, by Friday. When I tell my daughter, I won't overemphasize her mother's infidelity, but I'll be frank.
My final step is to quit my job so I won't have to pay Sally alimony. My current savings are enough for me to live on for a while, and if I need to earn money again, I'll leave here, or even leave the country—maybe to Mexico, but I don't think I'll need to go that far. In short, once we divorce, that unfaithful woman will get nothing. Let that bastard take care of him—but he'll have to go to jail first. That's her only hope.
Friday was incredibly hot and humid, but for me, it was the start of a new life. I had an appointment with Kelly Anders at lunch; I needed to have a serious talk with her.
"Hello,"
she said, sitting down across from me. "You sounded funny on the phone, but you don't look so funny now."
"Yeah,"
I said, glancing at my watch. "Right now, my wife is about to receive the divorce papers."
"Oh? My God, you mean you're getting a divorce?"
She looked very excited.
I was also very excited, but I tried my best not to show it: "Yes, she's been lying to me all along. I only found out about her affair a while ago. So, I want to be with you..." "
Yes, yes, I understand, Red. We're just casual acquaintances. Let me say a few words first, I hope you won't misunderstand me. Listen to me first, and then you can tell me your story, okay?" "
Okay, you go first."
I was glad to let her speak first, because I was thinking about how to tell her about our relationship, so I really wanted to hear her thoughts.
“Reid, I’ve been doing this for six years now, and now you and your friends are sharing my body. If your relatives, especially your daughter, knew me, that means… I’m a prostitute, Reid, and frankly, I’m a very good prostitute. I’m proud to be a good prostitute, and I’ve never thought prostitution was an evil profession. Personally, I don’t believe in God, if there is one, and he’s as just and merciful as people say, but that’s just my opinion; others might not see it that way.”
“I don’t know how you’re going to handle our relationship, I mean, whether it’s going to be a long-term one, but I don’t expect it to be. However, I enjoy being with you; you make me feel safe. Sometimes I really need that feeling, and I hope it continues. But, as I said before, I don’t expect a long-term relationship,”
she said, then crossed her arms, waiting for me to speak.
“Carrie, I love you. As for your profession, I think you’re the best at it, and I don’t care what others think. If you want to keep your secret, no problem. If you want to tell everyone about your experiences, I’ll fully support you. As for my daughter Jenny, I think she’ll understand us, and she’ll understand everything. Frankly, I know she will.”
“Then…”
She was clearly shocked that I said I loved her: “What did you just say?”
“I said, my dearest sweetheart, I love you, and your experience as a top-notch prostitute is my greatest pride. I know it sounds a bit strange, but that’s how I feel.”
I said with a smile.
She looked into my eyes and said, “Redkel, my dearest, I will never betray you, never and ever, but I still have to continue my work.”
“I know, I know.”
We hugged tightly for a long time. She kissed and licked my ears and neck, which instantly aroused me. But now was not the time to make love.
“Kelly, there’s something I need to say. The divorce proceedings will take some time, and we need to be careful with our contact during this period. I don’t want my wife to have any leverage over me,”
I said, looking at her, hoping she would understand.
“Of course,”
she said, “but we won’t go six months without seeing each other, will we?”
“No. We can still meet, but…”
“Okay… I can manage. I think waiting for you is worth it… but I still want to ask you one more time, Redkl, consider this a test for myself. I’m asking you, are you confident in our relationship?”
Just then, my phone rang. I turned it off, but it rang again. I didn’t even glance at the caller ID to know who was calling and what it was about. I knew the battle was about to begin.
It was 3 p.m., and I answered the phone. To my surprise, it wasn’t my lawyer or my wife calling, but my daughter, whom I had been neglecting. What should I say to her? My heart began to pound with anxiety.
Clearly, her mother had already called her and used crocodile tears to persuade her to stand with her mother. Now, I was going to tell her the truth and make her understand me.
"Hello, kid,"
I said. Our call lasted 20 minutes. I didn't mention her mother's name the whole time; I just said she had found another man and our relationship was over. I think Jenny probably sensed from my tone that things weren't so simple, but she didn't press me.
When the call ended, she told me she would be taking a flight to see me that night. I knew she wanted to try again to persuade me to reconcile with her mother, but it was impossible. My wife of 25 years no longer had my trust. We were completely over.
Finally, I received a call from Sally, telling her that her daughter Jenny had called and agreed to meet her at the bar to talk.
Although there was nothing urgent, I arrived at the bar early. Actually, I didn't want to face such a situation, didn't want to see any sentimental scenes, but this problem had to be resolved sooner or later.
Sally arrived 20 minutes later. As soon as she sat down opposite me, she began, "Redkel, Red, how could you do this! You actually had the lawyer bring me divorce papers. Let me tell you, we have to split the assets at least 50/50. I need at least 50%, at least!"
She started crying.
I couldn't believe she could say such a thing. She didn't apologize, didn't try to save our marriage; all she cared about was how much she would get. She was so heartless and indifferent; it was only a matter of time before she cheated.
"Sally, I'm warning you, I never want to hear this nonsense from you again,"
I said angrily.
"Redkel, I kept my promise to you. I promised I would never do anything to betray you again, and I really haven't. Since that incident, I haven't let Rod come to our house again, nor have I agreed to his requests to go on dates with me, which made him very angry. I did all this for you, for our family, don't you understand?"
she said earnestly, but she knew she was lying.
"Sally, say nothing more. There's no chance of things changing."
"Redkel, Red, I need a few more things, just a little..."
"I know, but I can't give you what you want. If you really want to continue living with me, you shouldn't have done anything to betray me after I returned home that time. Also, I did something else about your bastard boyfriend. Tell him to watch out; I'll settle the score with him sooner or later."
She looked at me in shock, her expression asking, "Are you crazy?" "Are you really going to do that? He never tried to do anything to you!" "
Sally, stop talking nonsense. Do you believe he didn't do anything? You have no idea how much harm what you've done has done to me, to our family. As for him, I really want to kill him. When our daughter Jenny comes back, ask her what she thinks. If you can convince her, then I'll agree with you and give you the help you want. But, you know, no one will agree with you, right?"
"But, Reed, I have no job, no income. How am I supposed to live? You took all the family property. Your lawyer said you're unemployed too, but I don't believe his nonsense. How can you treat me like this? What am I supposed to eat? How am I supposed to survive?"
"I can leave the house to you; you can sell it. Then, you can go to some training and find a job. Oh, and I can give you an idea: since your big-dicked lover loves you so much, you can have him pay your living expenses. That bastard has used your body far more than I have."
I said, my voice filled with sarcasm.
"Redkl! You're wrong! Of course you use it more! Both in quantity and quality, you get the most!"
"You talk a good game! You think I'm number one now? But didn't you say I've never satisfied you? Your words hurt me deeply, you know that?" "
Redkl, you didn't hear everything on that phone call. After that call, I've lived in fear. You don't know how deeply I was hurt too. I wish I were dead."
"Sally, I swear I've already been too lenient with you. You said you were hurt too, but do you know how much you hurt me? Let me tell you, even after the divorce, I'll never be able to heal the wounds in my heart. But anyway, I'm still willing to help you one last time. I have a friend who runs a sales company and needs a receptionist. He asked me if I could give you a job. If you're willing, I can talk to him. It's $10 an hour. Are you willing to take it? Tell me now."
Sally started crying. She knew everything she had said was in vain, and could only nod helplessly, saying, "$10 an hour? That seems like a pretty good salary, right?"
Hearing her say that, I really felt bad for her. She was so ignorant about work.
Sally was the kind of person who had absolutely no logical thinking; she was practically like a child who hadn't grown up.
"It's settled then. If you don't spend money recklessly and if you manage your life with some planning, this should be enough for you. You can also sell the house; I think your lawyer will advise you and help you get the best deal. I estimate the money from selling the house will be enough to cover your lawyer's fees and keep you from being too strapped for cash for a while. Unfortunately, your adultery will cost you dearly. Actually, I don't hate you anymore, Sally, but we can't continue living together. Now, I'll help you find a job; from now on, it's up to you."
We talked for a while longer, she cried again, and then we parted ways.
Just as I turned to leave, she said, "If you really want to settle scores with him, please don't hurt him too badly, Redkl. He's really not a bad person."
Sally probably didn't know that her words made me very angry: "Just leave him alone, Sally. You'd better stay away from him and don't go looking for him again,"
I said. I had wanted to say that if she went to him, I would beat her up too, but I held back.
Several months passed in the blink of an eye. That noon, after having a delicious meal with my good friends Henry and Granger at the Crystal Palace Club restaurant, they left before me. I lingered there a while, hoping to see Kelly, as she often solicited customers at the club. Unexpectedly, Sally came to my table and sat down opposite me.
"Sally! What are you doing here?"
I asked in surprise. "Didn't we talk everything?"
"Redkel,"
she said sadly, "I know we're divorced, but I want to talk to you one last time. I mean, I hope you understand me, understand my weakness, understand my womanly foolishness. Redkel, I've been thinking about what I did before, and I feel so ashamed. I'm telling you this now hoping you'll have pity on me."
"Didn't you go to work at my friend's sales company?"
Actually, I knew her situation; my friend Kimber, who ran the sales company, had told me, and I knew she was doing quite well there.
“Yes, thank you. The salary I earned there is enough for me.”
She laughed as she spoke. “I’ve already sold that house, as you probably know. After the fees and the last mortgage payment, I have over ten thousand dollars left. I think my life can start anew, but, Reed, I don’t want to start a new life alone, nor do I want to live with someone else again. I want you to come back, I want you to live with me again.”
Just then, Kelly walked over, smiled at me, then turned to Sally and said, “I guess you’re Sally?”
The two women had never met before. Now, I knew she must know what we had just been talking about.
“Yes, you are…”
Sally asked suspiciously.
“My name is Kelly, and I’m Redkl’s fiancée. I have to say, Sally, it’s such a shame you let such a good man leave you.”
Sally’s face showed despair. She turned her head away from Kelly and me and said, “I think it really should be over between us, right, Redkl? I mean, our marriage of so many years is completely over.”
“You’re right, Sally. The lifestyle you need is something I can’t tolerate,”
I said.
“Okay, I accept it. Anyway, that’s how it is, I don’t care anymore. Oh, by the way, I don’t care which slut you’re fucking with. I know you’ll be in big trouble sooner or later. You probably already know about me and that guy, but what you don’t know is that he fucked me very, very well. I enjoyed it very much… okay.”
Sally said, glancing back at Kelly, “Then I congratulate you two. Don’t follow my example and lose this man. Don’t ruin your happy life for some stupid ideas.”
“I won’t,”
Kelly said, watching Sally stand up, then turning and walking away without looking back.
A few months later, I saw Sally again because of my daughter, Jenny. Jenny arrived that evening, calling to say she was going to see her mother first and would come to see me the next day. I thought it was a good idea; it was good to let her see her mother first, to let her see what her mother’s life was like. I was both angry and worried about Sally, even though the love had vanished completely.
Since our divorce, Jenny had come back a few times, which had been very helpful in calming her mother down.
The next morning at 7 a.m., Jenny arrived at my place. I lived in a small apartment, four miles from my workplace, which was Kelly’s house. In fact, Kelly owned the entire apartment building. At first, I didn’t know Kelly was so wealthy; it seems some prostitutes really can earn a very good income.
For myself, after so many years of marriage with Sally, we only had a little over $100,000 in savings, all of which were in my name; Sally hadn’t received a single penny. Henry helped me secure the majority of Sally and my assets in my name; only he knew this.
Kelly and I had gotten up before Jenny arrived, busy preparing martinis. We were both a little nervous, our hands trembling slightly as we held the bottles.
"Hey, Kelly, why are your hands shaking? You're making me nervous too,"
I said with a laugh.
"Yeah. But you make it sound so easy. I wonder what Jenny thinks of my past as a prostitute. I really think she looks down on me, and I'm afraid you'll leave me for our daughter."
"Oh, I don't think she will,"
I said. "But if she despises you, she'll definitely despise me too. Remember, I love you, and I know you love me, that's enough. As for your past, and my past, let it all go."
The doorbell rang. Kelly and I looked at each other, then at the wall clock; it was exactly 7 o'clock.
We didn't move, then burst out laughing. I ran to open the door, Kelly following behind.
"Hi, Dad, how are you?"
my daughter said.
“Okay, okay, my little darling,”
I said, pulling her arm and leading her inside. I introduced her to Kelly, who stood nervously behind me, but Jenny seemed just as nervous as we were. They simply nodded to each other, as if unsure what to say.
“Sweetie, we’ve prepared some martinis; I remember you like them,”
I said to Jenny.
“Great, Dad.”
I ran to the kitchen and brought the wine and glasses on a tray. I poured two glasses, offering one to the two women sitting on the sofa, then poured one for myself. I sat down next to Kelly, hoping to offer her some comfort and encouragement; I knew she needed my support at this moment.
“Jenny…may I call you that?”
Kelly asked.
"Of course."
"Okay, I have to tell you first..."
Kelly stammered, "I know... I mean, I think I know how you'll see me... I mean... I've never... I mean... I don't want to try..."
"Kelly, I know it's not that you interfered in my parents' relationship. I think we were both innocent in their conflict."
After a moment of silence, Kelly took a deep breath and continued, "Yes, yes, your parents' breakup has nothing to do with me. But there are some things about your father and me that I feel you need to know."
Jenny's eyes widened, wondering why Kelly's tone was so serious. "Okay, go ahead,"
Jenny said seriously.
"Jenny, I'm 10 years younger than your father, but age isn't a problem because I love your father, I want to marry him, and he proposed to me. I agree to marry him."
Kelly paused after speaking.
"That's good,"
Jenny said, knowing she definitely had more to say.
“I’ve never been married, I have no children, and I don’t even have much contact with relatives or friends. So, over the years, I’ve dated quite a few men.”
Jenny listened with a frown, somewhat uneasy, but her father’s presence calmed her down a little.
“That night…that night, I met your father, he paid me, and I slept with him…I seduced him.”
Silence fell over the room.
“And then?”
Jenny asked softly.
“I was…I used to be…a…prostitute. I don’t want to hide it,”
Kelly said. “I slept with men for money. That’s all I have to say.”
Kelly said, tears streaming down her face.
“Oh?”
Jenny’s mouth dropped open in surprise.
“That night, I caught your mother with another man, Jenny. I was furious and ran to a bar. There, I met a very good friend of mine and told him all my troubles. Then he brought a woman to comfort me. Kelly came with another woman, and I was immediately attracted to her. Kelly wiped away my tears, and over the next few weeks, we saw each other more and more often, and things felt better and better. That’s all there is to it,”
I interrupted.
“Damn it,”
Jenny said in an inscrutable tone.
Kelly suddenly burst out: “Maybe I should leave.”
She said, “I think you two should talk alone.”
Clearly, Kelly thought Jenny disapproved of our relationship.
“Kelly, no, no, don’t go. I don’t mean to object to you. I’m just surprised. I’ve never been with a…”
Jenny hesitated.
“A prostitute,”
Kelly said.
“I’m really just surprised. I’m so glad my dad found a woman who can take care of him. I hope we can be friends, Kelly, that’s what I mean.”
“Dad, she’s beautiful,”
Jenny said, turning to me again.
The previously heavy atmosphere in the room immediately lightened. “Okay, okay, it’s all over,”
I said loudly and happily.
We chatted for several more hours, Kelly and Jenny seemed to be having a great time, almost becoming good friends. In fact, I found it quite amusing.
Jenny stayed at my house until 2 a.m. before leaving, saying she was going to be with her mother because her mother was feeling down: “Dad, I hope you can find a way to make Mom happier. I hope she can get out of this stupidity and sadness soon and live a normal life, okay?”
"Okay,"
I said. "I'll think about it carefully."
Seeing Jenny nod, I glanced back at Kelly and saw the approval in her eyes. I felt relieved and thought Kelly was a truly forgiving woman.
A month after the divorce, Kelly and I got married. Jenny sincerely congratulated us and invited her mother to our wedding. Sally readily brought her new boyfriend, a policeman. Things were going very well, indicating a bright future for us all.
For Kelly, the happy family life she had lost had returned. We and Sally were doing well, but life wasn't so good for the bastard who had seduced Sally and destroyed my family. Through Henry and his friend who worked at the IRS, we found evidence of his tax evasion, sent him to jail, and had most of his assets confiscated, turning him into a worthless piece of trash.
