The exposure of the young woman's affair

When Hua Juan called Tao Ming, Tao Ming and Pang Ying were in the car. Tao Ming picked up his phone while driving, and when he saw Hua Juan's name on the screen, he was startled and glanced at Pang Ying. Hua Juan's number was saved in Tao Ming's phone; whenever she called, her name would appear on his screen. Previously, Tao Ming would be very excited when Hua Juan called, but today was different because he was with Pang Ying. Therefore, he couldn't answer the call, so he let it ring. "Who's calling?" Pang Ying asked
.
"A client,"
Tao Ming lied.
Actually, ever since he slept with Pang Ying last night, Tao Ming had been captivated by her. Although Pang Ying wasn't as beautiful or as old as Hua Juan in many ways, Tao Ming found Pang Ying more wild, more wanton, and more interesting in bed last night.
Men don't necessarily like wanton women; it depends on who the woman is wanton to. Deep down, men still prefer women who are wanton to them.
"Why didn't you answer?"
Pang Ying asked.
“I don’t want to talk to him,”
Tao Ming said. “This is a nuisance call.”
Once the phone stopped ringing, Tao Ming took it and turned it off; it wouldn’t ring again.
Pang Ying called Tao Ming before leaving work, behind Hua Juan’s back. Pang Ying asked Tao Ming to meet up, and remembering their passionate encounter the night before, Tao Ming readily agreed.
But then Tao Ming thought, if he went to pick up Pang Ying, Hua Juan would definitely know. He had canceled his date with Hua Juan to keep the appointment. He racked his brains to come up with a flawless plan: he borrowed a friend’s car because Hua Juan recognized it. If he parked his car in front of her company, Hua Juan would recognize him, which would be incredibly embarrassing.
While waiting for Pang Ying to get off work, Tao Ming sent her a text message, telling her the license plate of his car and where it was parked. Pang Ying had gone straight to Tao Ming's car after leaving the company because it was something they had arranged beforehand. Tao Ming was startled to see Hua Juan and Pang Ying coming out together; he wondered if Pang Ying would also let Hua Juan get in his car. If so, he would be even more embarrassed.
Fortunately, his worries were unnecessary. Pang Ying walked to his car herself, while Hua Juan just stared longingly in his direction, which put his mind at ease.
Pang Ying opened the car door and got in herself. He didn't dare go out to greet her because Hua Juan kept glancing in their direction, as if she was also waiting for a car.
After being beaten by Feng Ming, Hua Juan called Tao Ming, but his phone was switched off. At that moment, Tao Ming and Pang Ying were in bed, enjoying their intimate moments. Completely forgetting about Hua Juan, Tao Ming deliberately kept his phone off. He didn't want to answer Hua Juan's calls while he was with Pang Ying; it would be too awkward.
When Hua Juan tried to escape Qi Tian's lewdness in the hotel, she called Tao Ming again, but his phone was still off. If he had turned it on then, none of the subsequent events would have happened.
When Hua Juan called Tao Ming again for help, he was fast asleep, embracing Pang Ying's alluring body.
Hua Juan was completely captivated by Qi Tian. She lay limply in his arms, inhaling his masculine scent, which made her even more attached to him.
Qi Tian, tired from what he had just done, was snoring heavily. Hua Juan, however, was wide awake in his arms, unusually excited.
Looking at the sleeping Qi Tian, she would occasionally stroke his body, sometimes trying to wake him, but he remained sound asleep. Even when she did wake up, she would drift off to sleep again.
When Hua Juan woke up in the morning, Qi Tian was still fast asleep.
Hua Juan couldn't stay in bed with him; she had to go to work, and going to work was a big deal for her.
"Wake up,"
Hua Juan nudged the drowsy Qi Tian awake. "I have to go. To work."
Qi Tian rubbed his sleepy eyes, yawned, stretched, and then lazily asked, "So early?"
Hua Juan said while putting on her makeup. "Every day."
Qi Tian sat up naked. Hua Juan looked at his strong, sexy body and gazed at him tenderly. "Do you have time tonight?"
Qi Tian pulled Hua Juan closer to the bed. He smelled the strong perfume and intoxicating scent emanating from her.
The small mirror Hua Juan was holding fell onto the bed. "Not sure, we'll see."
Qi Tian looked at Hua Juan, now made up. A surge of passion rose within him, for Hua Juan was even more beautiful with makeup on. Red lips, white face, and sparkling clothes.
Qi Tian laid Hua Juan sprawled on the bed and went to kiss her bright red, made-up lips. Hua Juan quickly stopped him, afraid of ruining her makeup.
"Okay,"
Hua Juan sat up, straightening her disheveled clothes. "I should go now, you go to sleep."
"Can I call you?"
Qi Tian asked.
"Sure,"
Hua Juan didn't want to linger. She was afraid that being too intimate with him would make her late, so she resolutely left the hotel, her face beaming with joy the whole way. She had completely forgotten about her unpleasantness with Feng Ming.
Pang Ying also had a blush of happiness on her face; both women's happiness was written all over their faces.
"Sister Pang, you look great!"
Hua Juan opened the computer in her office. Then she asked playfully, "Did you have a good time with my brother-in-law last night?" "You did too,"
Pang Ying retorted, "your face is just as lewd."
Hua Juan couldn't argue with Pang Ying, so she fell silent. She started working online, but her mind wandered. She was thinking about last night's events. Was it really just a coincidence? Her one-night stand with Qi Tian had come so abruptly, so coincidentally.
There were so many "what ifs." What if Feng Ming hadn't hit her? What if Tao Ming's phone hadn't been turned off? What if…
Although Hua Juan had betrayed Feng Ming, she felt no guilt whatsoever. On the contrary, she felt it was the best revenge against Feng Ming; there was no more classic way to get revenge on a man in the world.
Hua Juan wanted to go online to see if Qi Tian was online, but she suddenly remembered Peng Chuanwei. Because of going online, she had been reprimanded by Peng Chuanwei. He had even given her a task: to get Tao Ming to invest.
Just as she was lost in thought, the phone on her desk rang.
"Hello,"
Hua Juan picked up the red phone. "Hua Juan, it's me."
Hua Juan recognized the voice. It was Peng Chuanwei on the other end. "Ah, Mr. Peng, what's up? Please tell me."
"Come over here. It's not good to talk on the phone,"
Peng Chuanwei said.
After hanging up, Hua Juan went to Peng Chuanwei's office. Actually, Hua Juan didn't want any more contact with him because she loathed him.
But for the sake of her job, she had to obey his orders. This was an unchangeable reality.
Peng Chuanwei, abandoning his usual serious expression,
said with a grin , "Hua Juan, please sit down."
This surprised Hua Juan. She and Peng Chuanwei were in a superior-subordinate relationship. Every time Peng Chuanwei approached her, he had a stern face because he was her boss. Even if he wanted to be intimate with Hua Juan, it carried a commanding tone. Faced with such a amiable Peng Chuanwei, Hua Juan's previous rebellious feelings towards him somewhat melted away. She smiled sweetly at Peng Chuanwei and said, "Thank you."
Hua Juan sat down on the sofa. As she sat down, she lifted her skirt slightly, a casual movement that Peng Chuanwei caught. He even had some impure thoughts.
"Mr. Peng, what can I do for you?"
Hua Juan asked.
"Have you spoken to Tao Ming?"
Peng Chuanwei asked.
"I haven't seen him yet."
Hua Juan lowered her head shyly.
"You need to speed things up,"
Peng Chuanwei leaned closer, sitting down next to Hua Juan on the sofa. Hua Juan shifted slightly, somewhat reserved. "We can't let this drag on."
"Okay,"
Hua Juan readily agreed, but she did have her reasons.
"Hua Juan, you're so beautiful,"
Peng Chuanwei said with a lewd grin.
Hua Juan felt a chill run down her spine, her heart pounding.
Seeing that Hua Juan didn't react, Peng Chuanwei boldly reached out and touched her buttocks.
Hua Juan jumped to her feet.
"Mr. Peng, please show some respect,"
Hua Juan said angrily.
Actually, Hua Juan disliked Peng Chuanwei deep down. For some reason, just seeing him made her nauseous. She'd rather sleep with a strange man than with Peng Chuanwei. Peng Chuanwei smiled awkwardly, "I really like you."
"You're a leader in the company; you should be mindful of your image,"
Hua Juan said.
"Heh heh, Hua Juan, you're here to lecture me,"
Peng Chuanwei stared at her as if he didn't recognize her. "
Mr. Peng, it's nothing, I'll go back to work,"
Hua Juan said, trying to leave.
"Hua Juan, you need to hurry up and finish your tasks,"
Peng Chuanwei said. "Your violation of labor discipline isn't over yet; you need to make amends."
"I know,"
Hua Juan said, and once outside, she hung up Tao Ming's phone.
Tao Ming's phone wasn't off, and the ringtone "Above the Moon" was playing. Hua Juan really liked this one. "Hua Juan,"
she said, still enjoying the ringtone.
"Tao Ming, why didn't you answer my call yesterday?"
Hua Juan asked reproachfully.
"I was driving and didn't hear it,"
Tao Ming said.
Hua Juan knew Tao Ming was obviously lying. She knew his phone's ringtone was very loud, loud enough to be heard even while driving. She thought his lie was incredibly cheap.
"Why did you turn it off later?"
Hua Juan asked.
This was a common trait among women—they often questioned the men they loved relentlessly. Hua Juan was no exception. However, they didn't realize that it was precisely this kind of questioning that frustrated men. In reality, men, deep down, preferred indulgence and didn't need excessive questioning from women.
"My phone died,"
Tao Ming said impatiently. "It shut down automatically."
"Ah."
Hua Juan was somewhat skeptical, but Tao Ming didn't want to dwell on it further, so he asked. "Hua Juan, what's up?"
Hua Juan hadn't expected Tao Ming to ask her that. Couldn't she call him if there was nothing wrong? Hua Juan felt a little downcast. "Can't I call you if there's nothing wrong?"
"Ah, no. Hua Juan, you misunderstood. I have to go to a meeting right now, so I'm a little anxious. Please understand."
Tao Ming immediately said with a smile.
"Tao Ming, do you still want to invest in my company?"
Hua Juan asked.
"You've found out?"
Tao Ming's voice became excited.
"Yes."
Hua Juan wanted to reassure him first. "How about we meet tonight?"
"Okay."
Tao Ming said. "But I can't pick you up tonight,"
"Why?"
Hua Juan asked.
"My car was borrowed by a friend."
Tao Ming said, "I'll contact you later."
Hua Juan felt that Tao Ming seemed to value the investment more than seeing her. So she wanted to play hard to get.
"I've noticed that you don't seem very interested in me these past few days?"
Hua Juan asked.
"Who said that?"
Tao Ming said. "I've been busy these past few days. So busy I've been neglecting you. Please forgive me, okay, Hua Juan?"
Hua Juan hung up and rushed to her office. The weather was too hot; the sun was scorching her, making her drenched in sweat. On her way back to her own office from Peng Chuanwei's office, Hua Juan didn't go straight there. Instead, she walked out of the corridor, as if to call Tao Ming from a quiet place. But after she finished the call, she felt the heat and hurried back to her office. Just as Hua Juan reached her office door, she heard Pang Ying's excited laughter and voice.
"Tao Ming, what am I going to do if I don't see you tonight?"
Pang Ying said coquettishly.
Hua Juan was stunned. Tao Ming? Pang Ying was calling Tao Ming again?
Hua Juan listened intently for a while; it was all mushy talk, things Pang Ying had never even said to Tao Ming, yet Pang Ying was saying them over the phone. It seemed Pang Ying and Tao Ming had already... well, you know. Hua Juan's heart ached; her blood seemed to freeze.

Chapter 44
Chapter 45 The Gentle Devil The
Casanova sent a video call, and Hua Juan answered without thinking much. What she did shocked her. The Casanova was at it again, displaying his shameless nature. Hua Juan frantically tried to close the video that made her heart race, but the more she tried, the less she could shut it down. She finally managed to close the ambiguous video in a flurry, but it was too late. The video had already been seen by the internet addict next to her.
"Hey, do you like watching this?"
the internet addict asked.
Hua Juan blushed and lowered her head, not intending to pay attention to the man.
But the man persisted, "Actually, it's nothing, it's common online."
Hua Juan glanced at the man next to her; he was in his early twenties, dressed smartly, with multicolored hair. Very cool. And quite handsome.
"Big sister, you have a great presence, you're no ordinary person."
The internet addict continued his incessant praise.
Hua Juan didn't want to talk to strangers, so she buried her head in her online chat and didn't respond.
"Sister, you must work in a government department. Can we be friends?"
The man lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
"That's your opinion,"
Hua Juan rolled her eyes at him. She continued typing.
"Sister, I know you look down on me, don't you?"
the man persisted. "But sister, you're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I've really broadened my horizons today."
Although Hua Juan rejected the man, she still felt flattered by his compliment. In fact, women like men to praise them, even if the man is someone she looks down on. She'll still be touched by his praise. "Thank you for your compliment," Hua
Juan smiled back. "Actually, I'm not as beautiful as you say. Don't flatter me."
At this moment, Yunwu's avatar on Hua Juan's online account kept flashing. Hua Juan clicked on it.
Yunwu: Who are you chatting with? Why aren't you replying to me? Yunwu is Qitian.
"Sister, do you have many online friends?"
the man asked, trying to make conversation.
"Not bad,"
Hua Juan replied, unsure how to answer Yunwu's message. She casually asked, "And yours?"
"A little over three hundred,"
the man replied. "Do you often come to internet cafes, ma'am?"
"No, I use the internet at home."
Hua Juan glanced at the man; he was quite handsome.
"Then, ma'am, are you passing through here on a business trip?"
the man asked, surprised.
"No."
Hua Juan was a little confused. Why did he ask if I was on a business trip? Didn't I look like someone from this city?
"Why do you think I'm on a business trip?"
Hua Juan asked.
The man smiled, revealing his nice teeth. "Ma'am, look, you have a computer at home. You don't use the internet at home but come to an internet cafe. What else could you be but on a business trip?"
Hua Juan suddenly realized, giving the man a friendly look. "You're very clever, but you're mistaken. I'm a citizen of this city. As for why I don't use the internet at home, there's a reason."
"Can you tell me?"
the man asked.
"It's a secret for now,"
Hua Juan smiled sweetly.
"Big sister, my name is Blackhead. I'm well-known around here. If you have any trouble or misfortune, just come to me."
Blackhead's demeanor was very street-smart, which startled Hua Juan. "Big sister, can you tell me your name?"
"No,"
Hua Juan said with a straight face. "Why should I tell you my name?"
"Let's be friends."
Blackhead smiled. "Big sister, why are you so nervous?"
Hua Juan didn't want to talk to him and started clicking on the avatars that were moving around on the screen.
Casanova: Beauty, why did you turn off the video? Don't you want to watch anymore?
Clouds and Mist: Where are you? Are you at home? Are you going out tonight? I miss you.
Hua Juan looked at the flood of messages and was a little overwhelmed. She wasn't in a hurry to reply to them; she didn't even know where she would spend the night.
"Big sister, do you look down on me?"
Blackhead asked.
Hua Juan smiled sweetly at him. "Of course not."
"Then why aren't you talking to me?"
Blackhead said while typing away on the keyboard. "If you think highly of me, how about I treat you to dinner?"
Hua Juan was a little confused. Why was this handsome man bothering her? Given his age and appearance, finding a girlfriend would be perfectly normal for him.
She wondered what his purpose was in striking up a conversation with her. Could he really be interested in a woman nearing middle age like her? It was truly baffling.
"I don't know you, why are you treating me to dinner?"
Hua Juan looked at him, puzzled.
"We already know each other, don't we?"
Blackie said. "Relationships between people always start from strangers and develop into acquaintances. Without strangers, there's no acquaintance."
Hua Juan looked at Blackie in surprise; she hadn't expected this hoodlum to have such philosophical insights.
"Sister, let's go eat, I'm a little hungry,"
Blackie said.
Hua Juan hadn't expected this man called Blackie to be so persistent, but out of politeness, she went with him anyway, since she really had nothing else to do and was just killing time at an internet cafe.
Summer nights in the city are very lively, like a glamorous woman in full dress, flamboyantly dressed and heavily made up, attracting customers.
The crowds surged, neon lights shimmering on everyone's faces. Hua Juan and Hei Tou arrived at the street. "Sister, shall we go to a street food stall?"
Hei Tou asked.
Actually, Hua Juan had no interest in socializing with him. She was just forcing herself to come with him. Hua Juan wondered how she had become such a casual woman. She wasn't like this before; she didn't recognize herself anymore.
"Eating at a street food stall is a bit shabby,"
Hei Tou muttered to himself. "How about we go to a nicer restaurant?"
"Whatever,"
Hua Juan said.
Hua Juan suddenly remembered why Hei Tou was acting so casually towards her. When had their relationship become so close? They were just strangers who had met by chance.
The street food stall was crowded and noisy. Hua Juan had never eaten in such an environment before, but it was quite casual. People here laughed and talked loudly, drank heavily, and ate heartily. Hua Juan found it very interesting.
The night breeze gently brushed her cheeks, carrying the spicy aroma of barbecue, which Hua Juan found very appetizing.
"Sister, what would you like to order?"
Hei Tou asked.
“Anything is fine,”
Hua Juan smiled faintly. “You order.”
Hei Tou gazed at Hua Juan’s beautiful face, quite pleased.
“How about some barbecue?”
Hei Tou asked, looking at Hua Juan.
Hua Juan smiled and nodded.
“Sister, you have such an elegant air about you. Unlike those chattering little girls,”
Hei Tou said.
Hua Juan smiled but remained silent. She was very reserved, almost excessively so. In fact, she was observing Hei Tou, wondering why this young man born in the 80s had fallen for her. They were fundamentally different in their experiences and lives. Although they didn’t have a generation gap, they weren’t on the same path either.
Hei Tou drank his beer heartily, occasionally toasting Hua Juan. Hua Juan nodded blankly.
As they drank and became more animated, they started talking more.
“Hei Tou, what do you do?”
Hua Juan asked.
"He's a gangster."
Blackie tossed his head back and took a big gulp of beer. He grabbed a freshly grilled lamb skewer and stuffed it into his mouth, looking smug.
"Really?"
Hua Juan asked.
"Of course,"
Blackie said arrogantly, "Big sister, just say the word if you need anything, I'll take care of it."
Hua Juan didn't want to get involved with the underworld. She didn't want to cause trouble. She quickly said, "No need."
"Big sister, can you tell me what you do?"
"I work for a company."
Hua Juan smiled.
Blackie held the iron skewer he had just finished eating and asked, "It's not an ordinary job, is it?"
"I manage the finances,"
Hua Juan said.
Blackie's eyes lit up and he said, "Big sister is an educated person, big sister, you know? I admire educated people like you the most, especially women."
Blackie wasn't lying. Although he hadn't had much schooling, he really admired educated people because he himself wasn't academically inclined.
“What culture?”
Hua Juan said self-deprecatingly, “Just a freeloader.”
“There are different kinds of freeloaders,”
Hei Tou said, picking up his full beer. He took a sip, not offering it to Hua Juan, who didn’t drink beer. He asked the waiter to cook her some Lulu (a type of Chinese liquor). Hua Juan noticed that the owner of this food stall treated Hei Tou with great respect, calling him “Big Brother.” “Some freeloaders have taste, some don’t.”
Hua Juan stared at him, surprised that this petty hoodlum was so knowledgeable. She began to sized him up.
Hei Tou was dressed in designer clothes—a t-shirt and jeans—tall and strong, handsome and vibrant.
“I didn’t expect you to be so cultured,”
Hua Juan said.
“What culture?”
Hei Tou grabbed a skewer of meat. “Big Sister, you should eat too,”
he seemed to have a good appetite.
Hua Juan also picked up a skewer from the grill and took a small bite. "What do you do every day?"
"I live a pretty carefree life, I hardly do anything,"
Blackie said.
"Then how do you make a living?"
Hua Juan asked, puzzled.
"Collecting protection money,"
Blackie said, putting down his glass. "I have more than twenty henchmen who specialize in collecting protection money for me. If anyone has any problems, one phone call and I'm there to take care of them."
Hua Juan had only ever seen scenes of gangsters collecting protection money in movies and TV shows; she never expected it to happen in real life. She didn't want to continue associating with Blackie, fearing it would bring unnecessary trouble.
"That sounds terrifying,"
Hua Juan said.
"Nothing's wrong, it's quite exciting,"
Blackie said excitedly. "Especially when they're fighting, it's even more exciting."
Hua Juan wanted to leave Blackie, but couldn't find an excuse right away. She wanted to wait until Blackie finished drinking before saying goodbye; saying goodbye midway would be impolite. Besides, she was a little afraid of Blackie; this man must be a ruthless thug. How did she end up in his hands?
Hua Juan looked around and inadvertently spotted Feng Ming not far from her. Feng Ming sat at a roadside stall not far from her, several bottles of beer and meat skewers on the table. He was drinking beer in large gulps.
Hua Juan quickly lowered her head, glancing at Feng Ming out of the corner of her eye. Feng Ming seemed to see Hua Juan; he walked towards her. Hua Juan's breathing became heavy; she was panicked. Every step Feng Ming took felt like a blow to her heart.
"Sister, what's wrong? Why are you so pale?"
Hei Tou noticed Hua Juan's strange change and asked with concern.
Hua Juan was too nervous to speak. "Oh, Hua Juan, so you're on a date here."
Feng Ming had already reached Hua Juan and Hei Tou. Seeing Hua Juan with a strange young man, his anger flared.
Hua Juan trembled with nervousness, not knowing what to do. She stared at Feng Ming silently.
Hei Tou stood up.
"Who are you? You fucking looking for death!"
Hei Tou punched Feng Ming. Feng Ming was already furious, and the punch only fueled his anger. He started fighting with Hei Tou.
The two men quickly started fighting, overturning the food stall and sending people screaming and scattering.
Soon, Feng Ming was knocked to the ground by Hei Tou, his body a bloody mess. "You fucking dare to fight me?"
Hei Tou turned around, grabbed a beer bottle, and smashed it over Feng Ming's head.
Only then did Hua Juan wake up. "Hei Tou! Stop!"

Chapter 46 Nightmare
Just as Hei Tou was about to smash the beer bottle over Feng Ming's head, Hua Juan snapped out of her terror. She rushed over, shouting, but it was too late. Hei Tou smashed the beer bottle over Feng Ming's head, shattering it. Feng Ming lay motionless on the ground, bleeding profusely.
Hua Juan stood there, stunned in fear, feeling a swelling in her lower body, and a warm liquid flowing from her body—she had lost control of her bladder.
Afterwards, the incident became the talk of the town, and Hua Juan became a hot topic. She had actually colluded with the underworld to beat her own husband.
Feng Ming was hospitalized, Hua Juan was taken away by the police, and Hei Tou ran away. Just as he was beating Feng Ming to the ground, the police car arrived. It's unclear whether someone called 110 or if the police were patrolling, but the police car arrived. Hei Tou, realizing the situation was bad, fled in panic.
Hua Juan was taken to the criminal investigation team for questioning, which made her very embarrassed.
After questioning her about the incident, the police released Hua Juan. Feng Ming's injuries weren't serious; they were quite frightening at the time, but it was just a broken head that he was bandaged up and sent home.
Hua Juan felt she was falling apart because of this incident. How did she get entangled with Hei Tou? She couldn't even understand it herself.
"Hua Juan, what happened?"
Pang Ying asked as soon as Hua Juan arrived at the office that morning. "Huh?"
Hua Juan asked, puzzled.
"The matter of Feng Ming being beaten?"
Pang Ying asked.
"Who told you that?"
Hua Juan asked, surprised that the news had spread so quickly.
“You’ve been taken away by the police,”
Pang Ying said, typing on her keyboard. “Now everyone probably knows. I only asked you because we’re good friends; otherwise, I wouldn’t care.”
Hua Juan was a little embarrassed; this was difficult to explain.
“Hua Juan, how did you get involved with the underworld?”
Pang Ying asked.
“We just met by chance; we didn’t have any dealings,”
Hua Juan said.
"Come on,"
Pang Ying said. "If you're telling the truth, why are you lying to me? You even ate together, and you call yourselves strangers? Who would believe that?"
Hua Juan and Pang Ying exchanged glances. It turned out Pang Ying knew everything. She couldn't keep it from her any longer; it was pointless. She'd already laid bare herself to everyone; trying to cover it up would just seem pretentious.
"I met Hei Tou at an internet cafe,"
Hua Juan said. "He insisted on inviting me to dinner."
"At an internet cafe?"
Pang Ying asked. "What were you doing at an internet cafe?"
"Going online,"
Hua Juan said. "I had a fight with Feng Ming that day, so I went to an internet cafe and ran into Hei Tou. He looked so refined, how come he's a gangster?"
"Why do you talk to just anyone?"
Pang Ying complained.
Hua Juan lowered her head, her mind heavy with worry.
She couldn't work all day; she was constantly distracted. How could she be so casual? Would meeting this devil, Hei Tou, cause trouble later?
She was brought into the criminal investigation team. The police weren't really questioning her, they were interrogating her. They suspected her of having a sexual relationship with Hei Tou, a fact that still made her blush with lingering fear.
"What exactly is your relationship with Hei Tou?"
an older officer asked, smoking a cigarette. "Nothing at all."
Hua Juan sat on a low stool opposite the officers. Two officers, a young one and an older one, were interrogating her, sitting upright at their desks, cigarette ash flying everywhere.
"Nothing,"
the older officer said with a sly smile. "Did you conspire with Hei Tou to beat up your husband?"
The older officer used "husband" instead of the more common "husband," clearly still clinging to traditional values.
"No,"
Hua Juan denied.
"If not, how did you end up with Hei Tou?"
The older officer's questions were relentless, leaving her no opening.
"I met him at an internet cafe,"
Hua Juan said.
"An internet cafe?"
The older officer's eyes lit up. "You went to an internet cafe?"
the older officer questioned Hua Juan, while the younger officer silently took notes.
"Yes,"
Hua Juan replied.
"So, you two met online?"
The old policeman's probing questions made Hua Juan very uncomfortable. But she couldn't get angry with him; she had to explain herself to him to get out of there.
"No,"
Hua Juan said, "I went to an internet cafe and my seat happened to be next to Hei Tou's."
The old policeman hadn't finished his cigarette; he took another one from the pack and lit it against the half-smoked one.
"You two met so easily?"
The old policeman looked puzzled.
"He said he wanted to be friends with me,"
Hua Juan said.
"You two weren't having a one-night stand, were you?"
the old policeman asked.
Hua Juan rolled her eyes at the old policeman. "What do you take me for?"
the old policeman said. "What I take you for isn't important; what's important is that you explain things clearly."
The old policeman seemed to have a heavy smoking habit. The room was filled with smoke, and Hua Juan kept fanning her eyes with her hand, wanting to leave this awful place as soon as possible.
"How can I explain things to you clearly?"
Hua Juan asked.
"Tell the truth,"
the old policeman said.
“Everything I said is true.”
Hua Juan was bewildered by the old policeman.
“Then continue.”
The old policeman didn’t stop smoking, making Hua Juan cough incessantly.
“That’s all, nothing more to say.”
Hua Juan said.
“You still haven’t told me how you dealt with Hei Tou?”
the old policeman asked.
“Didn’t I already tell you? That’s all.”
Hua Juan said impatiently. “Really.”
“You’re really avoiding the important points,”
Hua Juan said irritably, but the old policeman wasn’t irritated and continued speaking slowly.
Hua Juan was so angry she had no temper left. This old policeman was really good at tormenting people.
“What do you want to know?”
Hua Juan was finally at her wit’s end with this old policeman, “What kind of deal did you make with Hei Tou?”
the old policeman asked.
“A deal?”
Hua Juan didn’t understand the old policeman’s question.
“Was it a pillow or money?”
the old policeman asked.
Hua Juan was completely confused by the old policeman’s jargon. "What pillow?"
The old policeman scrutinized Hua Juan, looking her up and down. "Are you genuinely clueless or just pretending? I'm asking you, what was his condition for beating your husband—sleeping with you or you paying him?"
"Why are you asking this?"
Hua Juan was angry. She glared at the old policeman.
"Blackie is a local thug; he's ruthless,"
the old policeman said. "Making money through fighting? I don't believe he'd fight for you without wanting anything in return? "
Hua Juan didn't know what to say, so the old policeman continued.
"We've dealt with him several times, but he never learns his lesson and keeps going. He doesn't help anyone for free, so I'm asking you, was your transaction a pillow or money?"
Hua Juan now understood the old policeman's intention. Who did he think he was?
"I didn't do anything with him,"
Hua Juan said, dissatisfied. "We met at an internet cafe and just went to a food stall for a meal, that's all."
"Didn't you and your husband, Feng Ming, have a fight?"
the old policeman asked.
"We did, so what?" "
Hua Juan said.
"That's right."
The old policeman smiled meaningfully. "So you hired Hei Tou to beat your husband out of revenge on him."
Hua Juan hadn't expected the old policeman to make that judgment. What kind of person did he take her for?
"Let me tell you, I'm not as despicable as you think."
Hua Juan was full of grievances.
"Whether you're despicable or not, let the facts speak for themselves."
The old policeman persisted.
Hua Juan didn't know how to explain to him; the more she explained, the less clear things became.
The old policeman suspected Hua Juan of murdering her husband.
Hua Juan fell silent. She wouldn't answer any of the old policeman's questions.
"Go back first,"
the old policeman said. "We can contact you anytime. We hope you cooperate with the police investigation and get to the bottom of this case."
Hua Juan left the criminal investigation team feeling extremely frustrated, and the thought still bothered her.
Actually, she really wanted to confide in Pang Ying about her troubles, because they had been sisters for so many years, sharing everything. But now things had fundamentally changed; Pang Ying had secretly stolen her boyfriend and was getting together with Tao Ming. This made her very angry.
She felt Pang Ying was despicable and shouldn't be close to Tao Ming, because Pang Ying knew about her relationship with Tao Ming.
Just then, Hua Juan's phone rang. Hua Juan picked up her phone and saw Tao Ming's number on the screen. She should have gone outside to answer the call, but she didn't. She wanted Pang Ying to hear it; her relationship with Tao Ming was quite special. So she pressed the answer button.
"Hua Juan,"
Tao Ming's voice came through the phone, "What happened last night? Are you alright?"
"Thanks for your concern, I'm fine,"
Hua Juan said into the phone. She glanced at Pang Ying, who was working at her computer. Hua Juan figured she was watching her, paying attention to the call.
Hua Juan deliberately raised her voice, "Tao Ming, where are you?"
While on the phone, Hua Juan observed Pang Ying and noticed she was becoming restless. This was exactly what Hua Juan wanted.
"I'm at the company,"
Tao Ming said. "How did you get to know that guy?"
"It's all your fault,"
Hua Juan complained, "If you hadn't turned off your phone that day, how would I have known him?"
"How is it my fault?"
Tao Ming asked.
"It's all your fault,"
Hua Juan said coquettishly into the phone. “I had a fight with Feng Ming that day and wanted to talk to you, but I couldn’t get through to your phone no matter how many times I tried. Frustrated, I wandered around the streets and ended up at an internet cafe. That’s how this happened.”
Hua Juan noticed Pang Ying’s expression darken as she chatted incessantly with Tao Ming. This was exactly the result Hua Juan wanted.
“Tao Ming, come pick me up after work. Let’s talk in person, okay?”
Hua Juan deliberately raised her voice.
Tao Ming hesitated, but Hua Juan continued into the phone, “It’s settled.”
Then she hung up.
That day, Hua Juan noticed Pang Ying was in low spirits and seemed lost. Hua Juan was secretly pleased.
After work, Hua Juan waited anxiously in front of the office for Tao Ming's car. Pang Ying left without a word, angered by Hua Juan's phone call, losing her composure. Women often act petty when it comes to jealousy, and Pang Ying was no exception. Hua Juan found this incredibly satisfying, like reaching a climax during sex. She hummed a little tune, gesturing excitedly as she waited for Tao Ming's arrival.
Just then, a car pulled up in front of Hua Juan. She thought it was Tao Ming, but the car's model and brand weren't his. The car stopped abruptly in front of her, and two young men got out, opening both doors.
"Sister, my older brother asked us to pick you up,"
one of the young men said. "Your older brother?"
Hua Juan asked, confused. "Who's your older brother?"
"You'll know when we get there. Please get in,"
the young man gestured.
Hua Juan was completely bewildered. Just as she hesitated, the other young man pushed her. "Let's go, big sister."
Hua Juan took a step forward, about to explode, "What are you doing..."
The young man who pushed her pressed a knife against her waist, and Hua Juan turned pale. She obediently got into the car with them.
