The Sad Little Story of the Little Chicken

Early autumn. Luoyang.

A tall figure walked from the north. The man was two meters tall, with a robust build. His long, messy hair was tied up haphazardly, and beneath thick eyebrows, a pair of piercing eyes coldly stared ahead. A thick, long, wolf-toothed spear rested on his shoulder.

Although it wasn't unusual to see one or two demons in a bustling city like Luoyang, this demon caused passersby to give way and point and whisper behind his back. Perhaps it was because of his icy gaze, or perhaps it was because of the heavy weapon on his shoulder.

The demon entered a tavern, sat down at an empty table, placed the wolf-toothed spear at his feet, and said in a low voice,

"Waiter, a jar of wine and two catties of beef."

"Alright, just a moment, coming right away." The waiter bowed and soon brought a jar of wine, a large bowl, and a plate of steaming beef. "Is there anything else you need?"

The demon waved his hand, and the waiter bowed and retreated. The demon reached out his large, rough hand and unsealed the wine jar. Without even using a bowl, he drank directly from the jar. The crowd watched this reckless demon, chuckling, when suddenly he put down the jar, rolled forward, and a wolf-tooth spear appeared in his hand. The passersby were bewildered when the demon shouted, "Who dares to ambush me? Step forward!" Only then did the crowd notice two gleaming throwing knives that had been on the long wooden bench where the demon had been sitting, still vibrating and humming.

"Gong Wunan, you've backed down." A man wearing a bamboo hat and carrying two swords stepped out

from the crowd. The onlookers gasped, assuming a fight was imminent, and quickly retreated a few steps before forming a circle, waiting to watch the spectacle. Sure enough, the demon leaped forward and swung his spear.

The two swordsmen didn't parry. Instead, they swayed and appeared on the bench where the demon had been sitting, turning their backs to him. They pulled the two throwing knives from the bench, then plopped down on it, tossing one knife onto the table and picking up the other. They cut off a piece of beef and put it in their mouths.

The demon, having missed his attack, didn't try again. Instead, he sat down opposite the two swordsmen. "Waiter, bring another jar of wine."

"Yes..." Seeing that the storm had passed, the waiter shakily ran out and brought a jar of wine.

The two swordsmen took the jar and, without even using a bowl, drank straight down. The demon picked up the throwing knife on the table, stuck it into a piece of meat, and put it in his mouth. The onlookers, seeing that the excitement had died down, dispersed. Only the two of them remained silent, drinking one sip after another.

"Five years. You're still alive. You've returned," the two swordsmen spoke first.

“Yes, five years. I’m back. I’m still alive.”

“Alright?”

The demon didn’t speak, but rummaged in his pocket for a few moments, pulled out something, and threw it to Shuangdao. Shuangdao caught it; it was a red, pigeon-egg-sized stone with a few wisps of eerie green light swirling inside. He weighed it in his hand, then threw it back to the demon. “Was it worth it?”

The demon remained silent.

Shuangdao raised the wine jar again and took a large gulp. “She’s gone. She didn’t wait for you.”

“Oh.”

“She left with Fengdao.”

“Oh.”

Another long silence followed. Both of them lowered their heads and drank.

The second jar was empty, and Shuangdao said again, “Come back with me.”

The demon was stunned, then looked away. “Waiter, two more jars of wine!”

Before they knew it, the sun was setting, and the two of them had already piled up wine jars at their feet. Shuangdao drank the last sip of wine, stood up, threw the throwing knife in front of the demon, patted the demon’s strong shoulder, and then staggered away.

The demon lowered his head and picked up the throwing knife. Engraved on it were the words "Luoma Mountain, Roufeng Manor." He lowered his head again; unseen by anyone, a glint flashed in his cold eyes. He took out a piece of silver and tossed it on the table, picked up his wolf-tooth spear, and set off.

Luoma Mountain was rugged and rocky, with no decent path leading up; even horses would fall off, hence its name. The demon trudged across the pebbly ground, his heavy wolf-tooth spear slung over his shoulder.

Rounding a ridge, the scenery abruptly changed. Gone was the pebbly, overgrown path; instead, a winding stream flowed, flanked by lush bamboo groves, reminiscent of the scenery of southern China. Extending from the bamboo grove was a small, exquisite courtyard, surrounded by a bamboo fence, with a small gate in the center bearing a pine plaque that read "Roufeng Manor." Inside the courtyard were only two thatched huts. The demon stood outside the fence, hesitated for a moment, then gripped his wolf-tooth spear tightly, pushed open the seemingly useless bamboo gate, and went inside.

Just as he reached the thatched hut, the door opened from the inside. A woman came out.

"Back so early today?...Wu Nan?" The woman was stunned.

The demon stood at the door, looking at the woman.

"You...you're not dead?"

The demon nodded.

"They all said you were...Wu Nan!" The woman hugged Gong Wu Nan tightly, already sobbing uncontrollably. Gong Wu Nan didn't respond, his hand still coldly gripping the wolf-tooth spear. Noticing

Gong Wu Nan's indifference, the woman released him, wiped her tears, and said, "Let's talk inside.

"

Gong Wu Nan followed the woman inside. The room was simply furnished: a bamboo bed, a bamboo table, two bamboo chairs, and nothing else. The two sat facing each other on the bamboo chairs. Gong Wunan stared at the woman for a long time before finally saying, "Rou'er, you haven't aged at all." He then took the pigeon-egg-shaped red stone from his robes and tossed it onto the table. "Looks like I won't need it anymore."

"Wunan, I..." The woman stared blankly at the stone on the table.

"Words are useless. Take care." Gong Wunan said, rising to leave.

"Wunan...I'm sorry..." Rou'er finally couldn't hold back and grabbed Gong Wunan's arm.

Gong Wunan stopped, but didn't turn back.

"Wunan, when you left, I was already carrying your child..."

Gong Wunan's body stiffened.

"You went to Miao territory to find the Vermilion Bird Gallbladder to cure my poison, leaving me all alone. I was helpless, and it was Fengdao who helped me. He helped me expel the cold poison from my body, allowing me to give birth to your child." "

My child?"

"Yes, our son." Rou'er cried.

"Where?"

"She died two years ago from a strange illness." Overwhelmed with grief, Rou'er's body went limp, and she fainted.

Gong Wunan caught her, holding her in his arms as if she were a feather. He gently woke her. Five years hadn't left any marks on Rou'er's fair face, but the excessive sorrow had robbed her bright eyes of their former luster.

Rou'er woke up in the arms of the man she loved so deeply, and finally managed a bitter smile. "Wunan, you've only been gone for a year. They all said you died far from home. My only motivation to live was our son. After our son died, I didn't want to live on either, but then Fengdao appeared."

Gong Wunan trembled. Rou'er was startled, but still said, "These past years, thanks to his care, I was able to see you again, Wunan. Now that I know you're alright, I'd die content." Before she could finish, Gong Wunan silenced Rou'er with two fingers.

"Come with me."

"You...you don't mind me?"

Gong Wunan nodded.

Rou'er burst into tears again. Gong Wunan felt a pang of heartache and carefully tried to wipe away Rou'er's tears with his hand. Rou'er, however, wrapped her arm around Gong Wunan's neck and pressed her small lips to his large ones. Tears streamed down their cheeks and into their mouths, tasting of the sea. A tender, long-awaited tenderness.

Their breathing grew heavier and heavier, as if they were carrying a thousand-pound weight. When their lips parted, Rou'er was already disheveled. Gong Wunan, his eyes burning with desire, stared at the woman's snow-white chest.

A blush rose on Rou'er's face, and just as she was about to cover herself, Gong Wunan grabbed her clothes and, with a slight pull, tore the white silk robe in two, leaving it far behind.

"Wunan...ah..." After five years apart, their bodies and souls were once again united, and only their panting could be heard in the thatched hut.

"Come with me." Gong Wunan stroked Rou'er's languid body in his arms.

"Mmm!" Rou'er opened her eyes and looked at her lover, her gaze filled with determination and dependence.

Gong Wunan looked around the thatched hut again. "Five years ago, you longed for this kind of life, but I only wanted to roam the martial world, make a name for myself, and bring you wealth and glory. Now I realize that the happiness you wanted was so simple. I was wrong."

"No, as long as you're back, that's enough. As long as I'm with you, I don't want anything else."

"Let's go."

"Okay." Rou'er got up, found a set of clothes and put them on. Gong Wunan picked up the wolf-tooth spear that had been lying on the ground, gently took Rou'er's hand, and opened the door to leave.

A person stood outside the door, his back to them.

"Gong Wunan, you're alive, you're back."

"Yes, I'm alive, I'm back."

"Very good."

"Thank you for taking care of Rou'er all these years, I owe you." Gong Wunan said, leading Rou'er out.

A chill ran down his spine. Gong Wunan didn't turn around, but parried with his wolf-tooth spear. A clang rang out, the sound of metal clashing. "Hmph, you can leave if you want, but leave Rou'er behind."

"Fengdao, I want to be with Wunan. I will never leave him again." Rou'er's small hand tightly gripped Wunan's large hand.

A cold glint flashed in Fengdao's eyes. "Then I'll kill him!" He said, thrusting his blade at Gong Wunan again. Gong Wunan gently pushed Rou'er away, using the momentum to turn around and swing his hard fist. Another sound rang out, the fist hitting the back of the blade, the strike missing its mark.

"Hmph, good, good move, Reverse Fire Meteor!" Fengdao said, rubbing his numb tiger's mouth.

"Fengdao, you couldn't beat me five years ago, and you still can't beat me five years later. Let go."

"What I can't have, you can't have either!" Before the words were finished, Fengdao unleashed a Po Jun strike, sending him and his blade flying.

Gong Wunan dodged. "Third time's the charm. This is the third move. I'll make my move again."

"Come on." Another whirlwind attack, Feng Dao twirled his blade, thrusting diagonally at Gong Wunan.

"You asked for it." Gong Wunan finally raised his wolf-tooth spear to parry, and as Feng Dao landed, a single thunderous strike sent him staggering back several steps.

"Good, let's go again." Feng Dao wiped the blood from his mouth and charged forward again.

"Stop fighting!" Rou'er cried out from the side. But neither of them seemed to hear. The two figures exchanged blows, blade and spear clashing. After

only ten or so rounds, Feng Dao unleashed a move called "Soaring Azure Sky," his blade flying out of his hand, tracing a strange curve as it flew towards Gong Wunan's back. Gong Wunan transferred the wolf-tooth spear to his left hand, clenched his right fist, and with a nimble twist of his tall frame, his left hand used the spear to deflect a single-edged sword coming from behind, while his right fist struck Feng Dao in the face. A scream rang out, blood spurted from Feng Dao's mouth, and he flew several meters backward, crashing heavily at Rou'er's feet.

Gong Wunan, holding the wolf-tooth spear, coldly stared at Feng Dao lying on the ground, his face contorted with blood.

Feng Dao struggled to his feet and grabbed Rou'er's leg: "Rou'er, after all these years, don't you have any feelings for me at all? Are you really going to abandon me?"

Rou'er gently stepped back, trying to break free from Feng Dao's grasp: "Feng Dao, thank you for taking care of me all these years, I'm grateful. But my heart only belongs to Wunan, you know that."

"You're so heartless?"

"In this life, I belong only to Wunan."

"Let go, I'll spare you." Gong Wunan said coldly.

Feng Dao's face contorted. He suddenly jumped up, shouting, and two crimson circles appeared on the ground, one at his feet and one at Rou'er's. Instantly, both of them were enveloped in a crimson glow, and the two circles were connected by a red line. Feng Dao pulled a short blade from his boot and sneered, "Come on, kill me! Kill me and you'll never have Rou'er."

"Live and die together? Where did you learn such a vicious formation?"

"Hahahaha, vicious? Now that I can't have Rou'er's heart, I'll keep her! Is that what you call vicious? Come and kill me, kill me and she'll die too! Now I'll tell you everything. Five years ago, I poisoned Rou'er and told you that the Vermilion Bird's Gallbladder from Miao territory could cure her poison, and sent you to the south. But who knew that Rou'er was carrying your child? I poisoned your bastard child. I did all of this. Come on!

Kill me!"

"You! You beast!" Rou'er slapped Feng Dao across the face. "I'll kill you!"

"Shut up! You bitch, you'll die too if you kill me!" Feng Dao locked Rou'er's neck with his left arm.

Gong Wunan's hands, gripping the wolf-tooth spear, trembled. His knuckles were white from the force of his grip.

"You dare not, huh? You can't bear to part with your good Rou'er, can you? Hahaha, Gong Wunan, is there anything in this world that you're afraid of? Fine, pick up the knife. Do you hear me? Hurry up, or I'll die in front of you with Rou'er!

"

Gong Wunan threw down the wolf-tooth spear and picked up the knife that had been knocked away from behind him.

"Cut off your own left hand!" Feng Dao shouted hysterically. "Hurry up! My patience is limited.

" Feng Dao pressed the short blade in his hand against his throat. Whether from excitement or fear, his hand trembled violently, so much so that he lost control of his strength and pierced his own neck.

"No! Wu Nan, no! Don't worry about me, kill him!" Rou'er watched in horror as Wu Nan raised his left arm and then held the knife high in his right hand.

"Chop! Chop now! What's one hand compared to the woman you love? If you don't cut, we'll all perish together."

Gong Wu Nan gritted his teeth, looking at Feng Dao's distorted face and then at Rou'er, whom he was holding hostage. He closed his eyes and swiftly brought the knife down. He severed his left hand at the wrist, blood gushing out like a fountain, soaking his clothes.

"Wu Nan!" Rou'er cried out, desperately trying to break free from Feng Dao's grasp.

"Hahaha, truly a man of loyalty and righteousness! Feng Dao admires you! How about another strike, cut off your own feet! Hurry up!" Feng Dao shouted, tightening the knife pressed against his throat.

Gong Wunan's face was pale, but he still resolutely raised his knife.

"Wunan, in the next life, I will still be your Rou'er!" Rou'er cried out, pushing Fengdao's arm away. The knife, pressed against his neck, pierced his throat as easily as cutting tofu. Fengdao fell backward, his hands clutching his neck, his eyes wide open, his mouth churning, but he could no longer utter a word, only making terrifying gurgling sounds. Rou'er also spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed limply.

"Rou'er!" Gong Wunan dropped his knife and rushed over to pick up Rou'er.

"Wunan, in this life... to be able to... to die in your arms, I... I've had enough... In the next life, in the next life... I will still be your woman... I... I'm going to see our son... He's here, he's come to find me."

Rou'er's hands fell gently to her sides, the light in her eyes faded, but a smile remained on her lips.

Gong Wunan used his crippled left arm to reach around Rou'er's neck, and with his right hand, he lifted her by her legs. "Rou'er, I'll never leave you alone again. I'll go with you to be with our son."
