What's your first reaction when you hear a male friend say "he was raped"?

Erectile dysfunction does not equal consent: The truth that "sexually assaulted men" dare not speak out.
Do you, fellow netizens, find the PTT (Taiwanese online forum) users' favorite phrases like "fucking him," "fucking is good," or the once-popular video "Brother Jie, don't," funny?
Perhaps you find them humorous, but think about it from another perspective: what do these poor victims, these "sexually assaulted men," think when they see these words?
Most of these raped men are unwilling to let others know about their traumatic past,
but a male history professor at Colgate University in the United States, Lehman… Raymond Douglas
recently revealed his experience of being raped 30 years ago to the foreign media outlet Quartz. Here is an excerpt of his confession (excerpted and compiled): "
I was raped when I was 18. The perpetrator was a serial rapist, a Catholic priest.
Besides me, he raped another young man the following year. The details are similar to those in the recent movie *Focus*.
I don't want to say anything more."
Although public attention to priestly sexual assault has increased significantly in recent years,
there are still many misunderstandings about this issue, particularly regarding the role of "rape victim."
While women still outnumber men among sexual assault victims, men still constitute a significant proportion.
The FBI only began investigating male rapes in 2013. Globally, approximately one in seven rape cases involves a male victim.
Furthermore, whether or not you become a victim has nothing to do with your size, strength, or physique.
If you really want to find a risk factor for rape, it's not size or sexual orientation, but age.
A 15-year-old male is more likely to be raped than a 40-year-old female.
Lehman: And most male victims don't know how to describe their experiences of sexual assault.
Their concept of male rape is influenced by films like *Four Warriors* or *The Shawshank Redemption*.
They don't even see what happened to them as a crime, just an unpleasant experience.
It's like being drunk, half-heartedly resisting or not escaping;
another possibility is that the perpetrator is a woman, or if they had a physical response during the assault,
they are likely to only blame themselves for being there and remain silent—a social atmosphere that forces them to do so.
In some modern contexts, popular culture even uses topics like "anal assault" as material for teenagers' "humor," and
victims are stigmatized because they are unable to protect themselves from sexual assault.
Myths about rape abound, such as "an erection equals consent"
or that only "being violently assaulted by a male stranger constitutes rape." These attitudes have persisted for a long time, which is why I remained silent for many years.
Lehman: Finally, I want to say that I decided to share my experience publicly
because I realized that the issue of "male sexual assault victims" is not being taken seriously, the situation is very serious, and there is no improvement
unless other people like me start to speak out.
Regardless of future developments, refusing to stand in the shadows is progress in itself,
but the issue shouldn't be solely focused on the victims.
Statistically, everyone who reads this article knows a man who has been raped, though most are unaware of it.
Therefore, if we want fewer victims in the future, we should start thinking about how to improve the environment that prevents men from speaking out.
Having read this, what are your thoughts on male rape?
Lehman also mentioned that, on average, everyone knows a man who has been raped.
I believe that if we casually make jokes like "anal rape,"
we might unintentionally cause further harm to those who have already been hurt.
Single choice poll, 8 people participated in the poll.
