Implicit Exchange Theory Basis—Li Yinhe's Commentary on Middle School Students Prostitution

The recent prostitution scandal involving middle school students in Shanghai has shocked the nation. My comments on this incident are as follows:
First, this incident reflects the extremely serious extent to which the vulgar trend of materialism has reached a nationwide level. People are willing to do anything to make money and live a luxurious life. They will do anything as long as it brings money.
Second, this incident reflects the lack of character education in schools. On the one hand, school education focuses solely on improving grades, neglecting the cultivation of healthy personalities; on the other hand, the so-called moral education in schools is too detached from real life and has completely failed. It only teaches children some lofty ideals, but not values they can truly believe in, such as that sex should be for love and physical and mental pleasure, not for exchanging money.
Finally, the ages of those involved in this incident show that simply imposing fines and re-education through labor is no longer sufficient to solve the prostitution problem. Sociological surveys indicate that prostitution in China is increasingly independent of physical venues and is becoming a private transaction between individuals. Simply banning it, imposing fines, and sending students to re-education through labor are completely ineffective policies and cannot eradicate the problem. This policy is not only ineffective, but it also leads to police and official corruption, as well as organized crime's involvement in and control of the prostitution industry and its exploitation of sex workers. To fundamentally solve the prostitution problem, a long-term effort is required, including:
striving to change the vulgar, materialistic atmosphere; strengthening education in schools to cultivate healthy personalities; promoting the value of sex for love; spreading the moral concept that sex is for pleasure, not for money; creating more respectable employment opportunities for sex workers besides prostitution; training sex workers in survival skills other than prostitution; and combating organized crime's control over the prostitution industry and its exploitation of sex workers.
I want to reiterate that an ideal society should be one without prostitution, where sex is completely voluntary, free, and equal, for pleasure, not for money. Only in this way will the social atmosphere be refined, not vulgar.
