Does it mean you can treat us however you want just because we're single men?

I just chatted with a few couples, and I was sincere and polite throughout. Why do some people always seem to disappear mid-conversation? Don't they even understand this basic etiquette? If you don't like me, you can just say so; I won't mind. Being rejected is normal, and I understand. What I can't understand is why some people in their thirties still don't know how to respect others!
