Southeast Network, January 22 (Haidu Daily, Minnan Edition, reporter Chen Shaoxun) – To warn his wife of the dangers of chatting with strangers online, a man in Dongyuan Town, Quanzhou, staged a home invasion robbery and rape on December 18th last year, wearing a human skin mask. His wife, unaware of the situation, reported the incident, and the man was criminally detained on suspicion of rape (see A07 of this newspaper, December 25th last year). Yesterday, reporters learned from Quanzhou police that after the case was submitted to the procuratorate, the suspect, Shao, was determined not to have committed a crime, and the case has been closed. Shao has been released without charge. The
investigating police officer stated that the prosecution considered the case to fall under the category of marital rape, but because Shao and his wife's marriage was relatively stable and had not broken down, and the wife did not request any action against Shao, it could not be considered rape. Regarding whether robbery was committed, the prosecution argued that the money Shao stole was marital property, therefore, robbery was not a valid charge.
"Considering that Mr. and Mrs. Shao will continue to live together and have a young child to take care of, the outcome was legal, reasonable, and justifiable," said Officer Li. Although Mr. Shao was ultimately released without charge, the police still gave him a warning and reprimand for the incident.
