Abstinence from pornography can change your destiny.

My journey to quit masturbation began like most people's. I tried common methods to control my urges. For example, I studied theories about the harmful effects of masturbation, read articles about its serious consequences, and even studied Buddhism to strengthen my understanding of karma and chant Buddhist mantras. However, each time the urge struck, I couldn't hold out for long.

I believe many people with the same problem abhor this recurring behavior. Through several studies and comparisons, I discovered that masturbation is essentially a form of release. For example, if you have impure thoughts about a woman and can't obtain what you want through normal means, you secretly masturbate to release your strong possessive desire.

Similarly, when watching Japanese adult films, we can't express our sexual desires through legitimate channels like the characters, so we masturbate to achieve a sense of satisfaction. All these examples illustrate that masturbation is a form of release; after release, you gain temporary comfort. Discovering this problem is crucial because the treatment method I'll be using next is based on this theory.

It's precisely because of the understanding that masturbation, and indeed all forms of sexual misconduct, are a form of catharsis that I suddenly realized that to completely quit masturbation, I also need to rationally channel and expel this evil desire through the act of "releasing." This is the core of the entire quitting method! This is most fully embodied in Traditional Chinese Medicine. For example, acupuncture and massage are the best examples and applications of this method. Some people feel sleepy after a massage; this is the effect of releasing. Like many others, I used to habitually try to suppress this desire through restraint, but this often resulted in great discomfort and reluctance, eventually leading to negative emotions. This might then cause me to masturbate again in the hope of relief from the pain of suppressing the desire. For example, when we're angry, we often swear; this is also a form of "releasing," after which we feel much better. Few people could endure suppressing their anger, right? Most people prefer comfort and rarely want to experience pain. Many people fail to quit masturbation despite repeated attempts, and I think this is likely the reason. Therefore, using release, channeling desire instead of suppressing it, might make you more willing to accept it and ultimately quit completely.

Having introduced the core theory, let's discuss how to apply this method. Using release instead of suppression doesn't mean you should continue masturbating whenever the desire arises—that would be meaningless. It simply means we're using a different method to release the desire while achieving the same goal of eliminating it.

Speaking for myself, based on my Buddhist background (this method might be easier for fellow Buddhists to accept), my method involves

visualizing Amitabha Buddha

. You can save the image or use it as your phone wallpaper. Look at it frequently until you're very familiar with it. When lust arises, immediately look at this image. Later, with practice, you can directly recall and visualize Amitabha Buddha, guaranteeing that the lust will be extinguished instantly. My method is super simple. All you need to do is memorize this image of Amitabha Buddha. Remember the image, and then use it anytime, anywhere to easily and comfortably overcome lustful thoughts!

I'll briefly explain the principle behind visualizing Amitabha Buddha to combat masturbation. I think there are two main reasons:
1. Visualization, in a sense, is a form of catharsis. By contemplating the dignified appearance of Amitabha Buddha, you will feel this evil desire instantly released through your body. (For Buddhist practitioners, it's important to understand that when we think of Amitabha Buddha, the Buddha immediately appears before us, radiating light and blessing us.) I've also found that this visualization method is much faster and more effective than simply chanting Buddha's name to suppress and control lust; it's immediate and effective.

2. Scientifically speaking, this is a method of diverting attention. It's very easy to operate; when lust arises, you can immediately use visualization to counteract it, anytime, anywhere, with one move to defeat the enemy. Compared to other methods of diverting attention, such as exercise or reading articles on abstaining from lust, this is much more effective. Visualizing Amitabha Buddha takes the shortest time, less than a few seconds, and can comfortably and invisibly cure lust. Moreover, regardless of your Buddhist beliefs, Amitabha Buddha can instantly and invisibly shield you from this evil force. He can eliminate karmic obstacles, specifically combat lustful demons, and drive away the life-devouring ghosts that want to drain your vital energy and arouse lust, bringing coolness to your body and mind. In the process of seeing, thinking of, and remembering the Buddha, you can also accumulate immeasurable merit. For those who wish to eradicate the sins of lust, frequently remembering Amitabha Buddha can eliminate immeasurable sins! Just as the sun rises and the fog dissipates, the method is extremely simple. It can help you quit lust and eradicate past sins—a double benefit, so why not? All you need to do is have this image in your mind! (I have personally tried it countless times and use it with ease!)

Skillful use of visualization allows me to control my masturbation desires anytime, anywhere, and ultimately, completely abstain from them. In fact, once you master the visualization method, you'll find that it not only comfortably controls lust, but it can also perfectly control almost all human desires, especially improper ones. Regarding desire, I want to emphasize that we like to vent, we don't like to restrain ourselves, but the key is to learn to vent normally and rationally, to guide our desires, and to further pursue a happy and fulfilling new life! (Welcome to reprint, please share, it is a meritorious act of eliminating sins and karmic obstacles!!!)
