Participants hold a bowl filled with wine above their heads, silently make a wish, drink the wine in one gulp, and then smash the bowl down with force. With a loud crash, they shout, "Peace and safety year after year!" The crisp sound of the bowl being smashed is said to drive away worries and bad luck, bringing forth pride and good fortune.
