Wang Zhengfang met Shen Luxue at the golf course; everyone called her Lucy, while Wang Zhengfang was initially introduced as Paul. In the United States, regardless of whether you work for a large company and deal exclusively with foreigners, or whether you only do business with Chinese people, you don't usually need to speak English. Everyone adapts to local customs and simplifies everything to just one Western name. With only a handful of Christian names, similarity is inevitable. Moreover, unless necessary, nobody cares what your surname is (of course, the original Chinese character "名谁" is even less relevant). Chinese names seem to be reserved only for family and relatives, and for classmates or old acquaintances from their time studying in Taiwan. Even though English speaking and writing might not be fluent, and communication with foreigners might be difficult, everyone can pronounce Western names fluently.

Furthermore, nicknames or endearments that were previously popular among familiar Chinese people have all given way to these seemingly more affectionate Western names. Therefore, it was quite unusual that everyone later unanimously called Wang Zhengfang "Copy King."

Their first meeting was on a Sunday. Early in the morning, a group of elderly Chinese men, carrying their golf equipment bags, gathered at the entrance of the golf course shop. As they waited to enter the course, John, the president of their self-organized Chinese golf club, introduced the newly introduced golfers to each other. Pointing to Wang Zheng, he introduced a female golfer who had just arrived: "Lucy, this is Paul, a big investor." Paul's eyes lit up. Lucy was different from the average Asian female golfer; she had a model-like figure and dressed impeccably.

"Don't come again, what big investor?" Paul declined to acknowledge her, while politely greeting the only woman in front of him: "Lucy, good morning! John said you have a high score of around 80. Please feel free to give me some pointers later." The day before, he had heard John mention a female golfer who was coming.

"I'm flattered, I'm not that good. I haven't played in a while. I'm so grateful that Mrs. John insisted on letting me come and learn a few rounds from you." Lucy was tall and slender, with fair skin. She cheerfully echoed John's tone, saying to Paul, "We should definitely ask the big investor for his secrets to making money."

"Yes, we should ask Paul," Terry chimed in, "He's made over four million since the beginning of the year. That's a lot of money! He's our 'Stock King'."

"Ah! Four million."

"Yeah, Paul should be called the 'Stock King'," John added immediately.

"What 'Stock King'? That's ridiculous, too much of an honor. How can I make that much money? Stocks go up and down every day, how much are they really worth? Don't be ridiculous."

He defended himself with a touch of self-satisfaction, enjoying the slight teasing from others. Everyone seemed to be infected by his enthusiasm, calling him "Stock King."

Stock King, Lucy, Johnny, and John entered the course as a group. After each taking their turn to tee off, they slowly made their way across the clean, tidy morning grass towards the slanting, pale-toned sun.

On the way to the green, Lucy suddenly said to Chao Wang,

"We've met before, don't you remember?"

"Yes, I know," Chao Wang said suspiciously, pretending to remember. He couldn't recall where he had seen her before, nor did he know if he had ever seen her before, but he definitely had a sense of familiarity.

"Really? You know who I am?" Lucy asked him playfully. The other two walking ahead probably couldn't hear their conversation. "Zhang Jingyuan and I were junior high school classmates. In Taipei, you accompanied Zhang Jingyuan to our class reunion."

"Oh!" He remembered everything. "You're Shen Luxue! No wonder you play golf so well, you're an athlete." It was a long time ago, and the occasion and people were completely different. He couldn't connect the dots at once. At that time, Zhang Jingyuan and he were just boyfriend and girlfriend, not married yet. He remembered that the Western restaurant where they held their class reunion was long and dimly lit, with twenty or thirty classmates who had just graduated from university crowding the booths on both sides. He was immediately attracted to Shen Luxue and only noticed her. He had not only heard of her as

a track and field star in their junior high school, but also as the school beauty renowned throughout the school. And indeed, she was exceptionally beautiful, possessing not only athleticism but also a captivating charm. Wang Zhengfang's gaze naturally settled on her delicate face.

What stirred his heart was that Shen Luxue also looked back at him, not avoiding his gaze but staring directly into his eyes. This made his heart pound, unsure of what to do; he couldn't glare at her, nor could he ignore her. He was young and shy then, and besides, he was accompanying his girlfriend. Even with a thousand thoughts swirling in his mind, he had to suppress the urge to strike up a conversation. Afterwards, he still fondly remembered her, imagining what a lovely and alluring girl she was. Recalling that scene brought a sweet feeling to his heart, a secret source of pride for him over the years. How could he not recognize her now? Had his memory truly faded? The abruptness of the event, the location, and the timing hindered the connection; and with so much time having passed, appearances inevitably change, and having only met once, even the most captivating impression wouldn't be deeply ingrained. She should be thirty-six, like his wife Zhang Jingyuan; so many years have passed in the blink of an eye. Who could have imagined that he would see the person he had secretly longed for again without any warning? It wasn't that he hadn't thought about those past events, but how could he have imagined meeting her in such a sudden situation? Wang Zhengfang nimbly crossed the grass, chasing the white ball with a joyful expression. Reflections kept flooding his mind. It truly lived up to the old saying, "Life is full of unexpected encounters." Such an unexpected reunion!

Although he and John weren't close friends, they had become close on the course over the past two years due to playing golf. He never expected that his former dream girl would live nearby and be very close to John's family. As they continued playing hole by hole, John's impression was that they were old acquaintances. When walking side-by-side with Wang Zhengfang, she couldn't help but reveal that Shen Luxue's husband had abandoned their family and started a new life in Shanghai with his secretary, who was barely in her early twenties and practically half her age. Mrs. John and Lucy were business partners; they ran an insurance brokerage firm together. Seeing her so dejected, she advised her not to stay cooped up in the office and at home, but to come out and play golf with John to clear her head.

Wang Zhengfang wasn't surprised; such things were commonplace. He just hadn't expected it to happen to the once-admired beauty. Knowing these past events made it easier for Wang Zhengfang to approach Shen Luxue again. Initially, he felt it was forced to be so eager, and his past anxieties made him feel awkward. Suddenly, he could effortlessly erase the discomfort he felt in front of others; he was no longer so sensitive. After a few holes, he didn't think she played particularly well; at best, she was fairly steady. Wang Zhengfang's score was already far ahead. Lucy repeatedly lamented that she hadn't played in a long time and was much less skilled, resulting in poor green control and numerous bogeys, which frustrated

her greatly. Wang Zhengfang, however, praised her for her athletic background, saying her fighting spirit was far superior to theirs, who were only playing for fitness. "What do you mean? Don't you want to win when competing against others?" Lucy countered.

"Of course, everyone has a competitive spirit in golf. But don't you feel anything when you get beaten?"

"Don't you feel anything? Aren't you disappointed?"

"Maybe I got used to losing every day and didn't feel anything anymore. Maybe I'd feel disappointed at the end of the match. But I've never been sad, after all, we play golf just for fun and to maintain our health."

"You sound so detached from worldly desires; just listening to you like that, it's hard to associate you with a stock market speculator." The two of them had fallen behind the other two. Shen Luxue bent down to pick up the equipment bag, casually saying,

"You guys don't complain like I do when you play golf, do you?"

"Complain about what?"

"Lots of it! Not hitting the ball as planned, not maintaining the score, losing the game at the last minute, etc. Paul, you don't seem to get bothered by these petty emotions?"
