Regarding the relationship between marriage, sex, and love, Zhou Guoping once said:
"Sex is physical life, following the pleasure principle. Love is spiritual life, following the ideal principle. Marriage is social life, following the reality principle. These are three completely different things.

The difficulty of marriage lies in how to unify these three aspects in the same person of the opposite sex, preventing habitual routines from numbing the temptation and pleasure of sex, and preventing trivial realities from damaging the passion and ideals of love.

Therefore, the existence of marriage is essentially against human nature. It may require love and sexual impulses as motivation to enter into marriage, but it requires more rational ability and emotional management to maintain its longevity.

The essence of marriage has nothing to do with love; it is actually a property system, a "contractual system of property protection" between two people based on human reproduction.

In ancient times, people invented marriage to pass on the property they had worked hard for throughout their lives, facilitating the inheritance of their property.

Recognizing this, we can treat marriage and love more rationally. A perfect marriage is very difficult, but intimate relationships are the best way to help us discover and improve ourselves. Perhaps even if we try our best, we still can't have a perfect marriage forever, but that's okay. Every step forward, deepening our self-awareness and improving ourselves, is a gain.

May we understand human nature's tendency to tire of the old and crave the new, and comprehend the mundane and unpredictable aspects of marriage, yet still bravely hold each other's hands and face all the good and bad things about marriage together.
