Seeking advice: How to deal with my wife's lover?

Recently, with my encouragement and urging, my wife found a lover, a local man. He's ten years older than her, likes her a lot, and she likes him too; they get along quite well.
Since we live in a small county town, and my wife and I both work for the same company, if we let them continue like this, they'll inevitably run into acquaintances on their dates, which will be difficult to explain. I'm thinking that if I also know my wife's lover, then if they run into acquaintances and rumors spread, I can say he's a good friend or relative, and it won't affect our work or family.
