After our child started kindergarten, my wife focused more on her career, frequently participating in various school activities. I continued working long hours, and our communication gradually decreased, with most conversations revolving around our daughter. Our marital intimacy became extremely rare, maybe only once or twice a month. I didn't initiate it, and she didn't bring it up either. At the time, I was happy with the peace and quiet; after a long marriage, the passion faded, and I felt I didn't need to put on a show anymore. This situation continued until our child was in her last year of kindergarten. Our life was very uneventful, and I never thought anything bad would happen. Until one day, our child's kindergarten teacher called me, asking why we hadn't picked up our child that day. She also said her mother wasn't answering her phone because an elderly person in the village had passed away, and her father had asked her mother to go back to work. My wife had been picking her up for the past few days. Hearing the teacher's questioning, I could only apologize and promise it wouldn't happen again. I then asked my boss for leave, saying there were special circumstances and I had to leave early. My boss readily agreed. I called my wife twice on the way home, but she didn't answer. When I got to the school gate, I saw her holding our daughter's hand, talking to the teacher. Our daughter saw me and happily ran to me, asking me to carry her home. My wife came over and apologized, saying there was a last-minute meeting at school and she was late, so her phone was on silent. She said she had already explained to the teacher and then told our daughter to get down and walk by herself, saying that her father was already very tired from work. Our daughter wouldn't let go and clung to me. Seeing my wife's expression change, I picked up our daughter and ran home. My wife chased after me, saying that I spoiled our daughter rotten. After a few steps, her phone rang. She answered and whispered something. I stopped and waited for her. After she hung up, she told me she was going to a neighboring city for three days in a couple of days to attend a seminar. I said that was great, it would help with your future professional development, and I would take care of the child. She looked a little awkward and said, "Thank you for your support, honey!"
