My wife and I got married relatively young. We're from the same village, and she's two years older than me. She was classmates with my cousin, but we didn't interact much in school because I was two grades below her. When I graduated high school and went to work, she was still in college. We didn't really cross paths until I was 21, but we were only aware of each other's existence. Fate is sometimes unpredictable. At that time, I never imagined she would become my wife. One year during Chinese New Year, I went hiking with my cousin. Unexpectedly, she was in the group. My cousin tried to set us up, and she probably felt embarrassed to refuse in front of so many people, so we exchanged phone numbers, but we basically didn't keep in touch. At that time, her father owned a small processing plant in a neighboring province. It was mostly run by her family. Her parents, older brother, older sister, and a few hired workers worked in the production workshop. After graduating, she helped her parents with the accounting. Because she was the youngest in the family, they didn't want her to suffer, which made her a bit stubborn.
In the autumn of my 22nd year, one evening she suddenly texted me asking what I was doing. I was lying in bed bored, so I added her on QQ and we chatted casually. At that time, I was dating a girlfriend from Northwest China; we both worked in the same city, but we weren't living together. So, I didn't have any ulterior motives when I chatted with her; I simply considered her a fellow townsman. Later, my cousin told me that she had just broken up with her boyfriend, who was already married and had lied to her about something. I felt quite sorry for her and offered her a lot of advice. Later, both my girlfriend's and my parents felt we were too far apart and didn't approve of our relationship, hoping we would find someone we knew well. After going through many things, we broke up. After the breakup, through our chats, we both knew there was some lingering ambiguity between us, so we didn't talk for a long time afterward. When I went home at the end of that year, my cousin told my grandfather and parents how wonderful one of her classmates was, implying that I should propose marriage. It turned out to be quite ordinary; her parents didn't mind the economic gap between our families. We got married when I was 23. The following year, after our daughter was born, she passed her teacher's exam and, through my cousin's connections, got a job teaching Chinese at a primary school in the suburbs of the county. I also went to the county town to find a job; the work was tiring but the pay was good. My mother also came to help take care of the child. That period was the happiest time of our lives.
