*The Unofficial History of the Embroidered Couch* is a long novel written by Lü Tiancheng during the Ming Dynasty, published during the Wanli era . Yao Tongxin, a scholar from Yangzhou , also known as Dongmensheng, first married the daughter of the Wei family. However, his wife was extremely ugly and sickly, dying at the age of 25. Dongmensheng, resenting his first wife, was determined to find a stunningly beautiful woman as his second wife. He first used various means to befriend Zhao Dali, a handsome young scholar 12 years his junior, saying, "We are brothers by day and husband and wife by night." Later, Dongmensheng married an 18-year-old beautiful woman named Jin . Zhao Dali continued to eat and sleep with Dongmensheng and secretly developed feelings for Jin. Dongmensheng loved both of them very much, so he arranged for Zhao and Jin to sleep together. Both Zhao and Jin were sexually proficient , but Jin felt guilty towards Dongmensheng after indulging in excessive sexual activity . She was "both ashamed and resentful," and said to Dongmensheng, "He (Zhao Dali) has wasted his time testing your wife. You should test his too . But Dali doesn't have a wife. His mother is only in her thirties and has been a widow for many years. I can only feel at ease if I arrange for his mother and other women to test their love." Jin then devised a plan to seduce Ma , who, feeling the pain of remaining chaste , after becoming friends with Dongmensheng and experiencing the great pleasure of desire, resolutely abandoned her chastity and let Jin marry Zhao Dali instead of marrying Dongmensheng herself. Marriage, however, served only as an external barrier to their promiscuous relationships. In reality, the four lived together, engaging in both homosexual and heterosexual acts simultaneously. Ya Zong Sai Hong, A Xiu, and Xiao Jiao were also involved. Mother and son met without shame beside the bed ; within the bedroom, male and female acts were intertwined. Later, after their family's misconduct was reported, Dongmen Sheng and his family fled to Yetui Mountain. They built six or seven small houses in the mountains and lived happily together. Ma Shi and Dongmen Sheng enjoyed three years of blissful union, and after giving birth to two sons, Ma Shi died of a stroke due to excessive indulgence before the baby's full-month celebration. Later, Jin Shi and Zhao Dali also died from excessive indulgence. The three were reborn as a sow , a male mule, and a female mule, respectively. Dongmen Sheng repented, and the three were reborn as humans. Dongmen Sheng then became a monk and used his actions to admonish the world.
