Chapter 12: The Attack

Wenlun pulled Ziwei into the pinball shop. As soon as they stepped inside, the deafening "clatter, clatter" of the machines assaulted their ears.
Over a hundred pinball machines, gleaming with multicolored lights, seemed to beckon to customers, clanging
and clattering incessantly.

There's a saying among the Japanese: "Work, pinball, subway, sleep"—these are the four main
activities of a white-collar worker's monotonous life. This shows the importance of pinball in their minds.

Pinball, also known as "Kashiwasenko," first appeared in Nagoya eighty years ago and has since become wildly popular throughout the country.

Wenlun and Ziwei stopped in front of a pinball machine that served mahjong. This particular model, "Paksenko," certainly felt familiar
to . They found it amusing, and Wenlun smiled and sat down. He took out 1000 yen and
bought 200 pins from the vending machine next to the machine. Before he even put the pins in the slots, he noticed a 100 yen coin clipped to the lever
controlling . He thought to himself that the previous customer was really forgetful,
forgetting to take his coin after playing. Wenlun casually took the coin out and placed it on the machine before inserting the pins and starting to turn the lever
to control the pin's movement.

Just as he started playing, someone slammed the pinball machine with a loud "bang," startling
the two men . Looking at the person, they saw a middle-aged man with a menacing expression. He yelled,
"Are your eyes even there for show? Didn't you see this sign? And you took my coins!
What do you want?"

Following the man's finger, they saw a small sign in the top corner of the machine that read
"Dining in Progress." Wenlun realized that someone was actually playing the machine,
just . He inwardly cried out, "Oh no!

" Seeing the man's fierce face, which looked like he was about to kill someone, Wenlun immediately pulled Ziwei behind him,
saying "Sorry" in English and repeatedly apologizing in Mandarin.

The Japanese man frowned, unable to understand a word they were saying, and assumed they were tourists.
His anger subsided somewhat, and he waved them away.

Wenlun immediately took Ziwei's hand and was about to leave the pinball shop when the Japanese man
called to them from behind. They both turned around and saw the man pointing to the slot, meaning he wanted them to take the pinballs from the machine.
Without thinking, Wenlun immediately gestured to him not to, pulled Ziwei along, and quickly walked out of the pinball shop, finally letting out a sigh of relief.

Ziwei patted her still-pounding chest: "I was so scared! That guy was so fierce!"

Wenlun stuck out his tongue: "Did you see the tattoo on that guy's neck? He's definitely not a kind person. He's probably
some kind of Yakuza or yakuza member. Luckily, I knew how to play dumb!"

Ziwei said: "Let's see if you dare go to places like that again."

"I'm scared!" Wenlun said: "So that guy used coins to hold the lever in place, precisely controlling
the force of the marbles. He's a complete fraudster."

"Judging from his fierce look, he probably spent a lot of time, maybe a lot of marbles,
to adjust the lever's force. No wonder he was so angry."

Wenlun thought about it and felt that Ziwei's words made sense.

Wenlun took Ziwei home. When he returned to Xixinjing, it was already past ten o'clock at night. The streets were deserted
, dark and quiet, with only the faint light of streetlights illuminating the road.

Not far from his house, two people suddenly emerged from the darkness. Wenlun was
startled by their behavior. He knew Japan was a peaceful and stable country, where even petty theft was rare. However, as
the two approached, his opinion began to change.

Although the streetlights were dim, Wenlun could clearly see their
clothing as they drew closer. Both were wearing baseball caps; one wore a black leather jacket, and the other a padded windbreaker. What was most
frightening was that both had turned up the collars of their turtlenecks, completely covering their mouths, leaving only their eyes and
noses visible, making it impossible to see their faces. Even more chilling was that each of them
held a softball bat and was repeatedly striking their palms with it, producing
a "thump-thump" sound in the silent night—a truly terrifying sound.

Wenlun was certain the two men meant him ill, so he immediately stopped. Seeing that their path home was blocked,
the chances of rushing towards his house seemed extremely slim. Wenlun looked around for a place to escape. Just
then, the two men separated, standing on either side of Wenlun.

Wenlun wanted to turn and run, but then he remembered that he was wearing a suit jacket and leather-soled shoes,
which would be too cumbersome for him to run, and he was certain they would catch him. Thinking of this, Wen Lun immediately dismissed the idea and
asked loudly, "What do you want? Do you want money?"

The man in the black leather jacket said, "Kid, if you know what's good for you, hand over your wallet."

"Okay, take it." Wen Lun immediately said. There were only about 20,000 yen in his wallet. Without thinking, he
took out his wallet and threw it at the man: "You've taken the money, can you move aside now?"

The man didn't even look at it, casually put the wallet in his pocket, and tapped his baseball bat a few times in his palm, saying, "You
still have one thing to leave behind."

"What?" Wen Lun knew something was wrong when he heard this.

"Nothing, I just need one of your hands and one of your feet." The man said casually.

Wen Lun immediately became vigilant. These two men were clearly not after money. He quickly took a step back and
assumed a horse stance. Fortunately, he had studied karate for several years in Hong Kong, and he was always agile and tall and
strong , even half a head taller than the two men in front of him.

Although he wasn't a fighter and had no real combat experience, he had learned basic
defensive and offensive techniques in karate. Wenlun knew that his opponents were wielding long weapons, and if he could engage them in close combat, their weapons would
be largely ineffective. He also remembered his coach saying that one should not be afraid of an enemy with a weapon, because
weapons have weight and are never as fast as bare hands. A weapon takes
at but a punch can hit the enemy in a tenth of a second—of course, this strike must hit
a vital point, rendering the opponent unable to retaliate.

Thinking of this, Wenlun looked at the two men again and saw that they were both right-handed, with their baseball bats held horizontally in
front of them, the tip pointing to the left. To swing their weapons forcefully, they would have to sidestep and
sweep .

Wen Lun understood this, realizing that he only had a briefcase, which couldn't be used as a weapon, but
it was a good shield. He knew the importance of striking first and
needed to act quickly to avoid being caught off guard by both opponents.

He seized his opportunity, took a deep breath, and then, with lightning speed, leaped in
front of the man in the black leather jacket. The two men were startled; they hadn't expected their opponent to attack first. But
before they could even swing their bats, Wen Lun had already kicked out, striking the man squarely in the stomach. The man felt a sharp pain,
his waist bent slightly, and he leaned forward, his head coming right into Wen Lun's chest. Wen Lun's elbow
followed , striking his right cheek squarely, sending him flying backward, rolling on the ground
for a long time before he could get up.

The other man was startled and swung his baseball bat at Wenlun's back, but Wenlun had anticipated the attack from behind.
A quick glance around, he spun around, grabbed his briefcase to block the bat, and kicked out with his right foot. The hard sole of his shoe
struck the man squarely in the chest, sending him staggering back several steps.

Wenlun's loud shout had already awakened many neighbors in the quiet night. Lights began to come on in several
houses , and many people came out onto their balconies to see what was happening.

Zhixian was also peeking out of his room at that moment. Although the streetlights were dim, he recognized one of the men
as Wenlun. Startled, he rushed downstairs. As soon as he opened the door, he saw the man who had been lying on the ground
slowly rising, raising his baseball bat, about to strike Wenlun on the head.

"Wenlun, watch out behind you!" Zhixian shouted, running towards him.

Just then, Wenlun kicked another man in the waist. Hearing Zhixian's shout, he didn't dare turn around and
leaped to the side. Sure enough, a gust of wind from the bat came crashing down on his side. Wenlun was about to retaliate when he suddenly felt another baseball bat
hurtling towards him. He instinctively turned his head to avoid it, but a "thud" was heard as the tip of the
bat grazed his forehead. Although it was just a glancing blow, the impact was
considerable. Wenlun immediately saw stars, felt dizzy, and collapsed to the ground, instantly losing consciousness
.

The two men, seeing someone approaching and hearing the shouts of the surrounding residents, dared not continue the pursuit and turned to run,
disappearing into the night in the blink of an eye.

Seeing Wenlun lying on the ground, Zhixian was even more alarmed. He didn't chase after the two men but rushed to Wenlun's side, calling out several times, "Wenlun,
Wenlun… wake up!" Wenlun remained unresponsive.

At this moment, several neighbors came forward. One of them asked what had happened.

"My brother was robbed on his way home. Could someone please call an ambulance for me?" Zhi Xian looked up and said urgently.

"I think we need to get him to the hospital immediately." A short man pointed and then said,
"My car is over there. Help him into the car quickly."

"Thank you so much, sir." Zhi Xian was extremely grateful and, along with two neighbors, lifted Wen Lun into the car.

Wen Lun's life was at stake, and Zhi Xian didn't want to waste any more time. He didn't even go home to get his ID, purse, and cell phone,
and drove off with the neighbor.

At

Okubo Hospital, located on Nishi-Ikebukuro Bunka Street, Zhi Xian paced back and forth outside the X-ray room when suddenly
he heard hurried footsteps behind him. Before he could turn around, he heard Zi Wei's voice calling from behind, "Brother,
where's Wen Lun? How is Wen Lun now?"

Zhi Xian looked in the direction of the voice and saw Zi Wei and Yin Yin running towards him.

"He's still in the X-ray room, we don't know his condition yet!"

Ziwei was on the verge of tears. "Is he badly injured? Has he woken up?"

Zhixian shook his head, and Yinyin immediately comforted Ziwei, "He'll be alright, don't worry."

At this moment, the door to the X-ray room opened, and Wenlun lay motionless on a gurney. A nurse and a
medical staff member wheeled him out, and the three people outside rushed forward. Zhixian hurriedly asked, "How is he?
Is there anything wrong with his brain?"

Ziwei ran to Wenlun's side, and when she touched his cheek, she could no longer hold back her tears, which immediately welled up in her eyes.
"Please...please wake up...please..."

the nurse said. "The X-ray results aren't back yet, so we still don't know the extent of his injuries. I need to
take him to his ward first, and the doctor will explain everything to you later."

The three had no choice but to follow her into the ward. Soon after, the doctor came in, and Zhixian immediately
went to check on him. The doctor said that Wenlun's skull wasn't fractured, and there was no bleeding, so he should be fine. However, he
still needed to wake up for a more thorough examination to make a final diagnosis.

Hearing this, everyone felt a little better.

Ziwei pressed Zhixian about what had happened, and Zhixian recounted what he had seen. Yinyin immediately asked, "Were
those people robbing us?"

Zhixian shook his head, "I'm not quite sure, but Wenlun would never be so foolish. If it were a robbery, he
would have just given them money; why would he have fought them?"

The three waited in the ward for Wenlun to wake up, but several hours passed without any movement. Ziwei said,
"Brother, I want to stay here with Wenlun tonight. You and Yinyin should go back and rest; you have to go to work tomorrow."
Then she said to Yinyin, "Yinyin, could you ask the company for two days off for me?"

Yinyin nodded in agreement. Although Zhixian had noticed Wenlun returning home late every night recently, he assumed he was working at the company
or out with colleagues, but he had no idea that Wenlun and Ziwei were dating. However, seeing Ziwei's
anxious expression, he immediately understood half of the situation.

Zhixian nodded, "Okay. If there's any progress with Wenlun, call me immediately."

"I will," Ziwei replied.

Zhi Xian said to Yin Yin, "It's late, I'll take you home first."

Yin Yin said to Zi Wei, "Zi Wei, don't worry about Auntie, I'll explain it to her."

The two got into a taxi, and Zhi Xian, already impatient, immediately asked, "Yin Yin, I want to ask you something."

Yin Yin looked at him, "What is it?"

"Is Wen Lun dating Zi Wei?"

"Hmm! Didn't Wen Lun tell you?"

Zhi Xian shook his head, "How long ago was that?"

Yin Yin answered casually, "Not too long, less than a week."

Zhi Xian still had something on his mind, which he hadn't asked Wen Lun yet. Seeing Yin Yin tonight
reminded : "On my first day at work with Wen Lun, I saw that you and he already knew each other, but Wen Lun hadn't mentioned you two."
"What exactly happened?"

Yin Yin smiled and told him in one
breath .

Zhi Xian couldn't help but smile after listening, realizing how coincidental things could be.

□□□

In the ward, Zi Wei was gazing at the handsome man she loved, gently
stroking , recalling how they met, feeling a sweet warmth in her heart.

Lost in thought, perhaps too tired, she unknowingly fell asleep by the bedside.

She didn't know how much time had passed, but in her hazy sleep, she felt someone stroking her head.
When she slowly opened her eyes, she realized she was asleep on Wen Lun's bed. Looking up, a
handsome face came into view, looking at her with a gentle and charming smile.

Ziwei was overjoyed and exclaimed, "Wenlun, you...you're awake! I'll go tell the doctor right away!"

Wenlun shook his head and pulled her back, saying, "Don't worry, I've actually been awake for a while,
but I didn't have the heart to wake you because you were sleeping so soundly. By the way, how did you get here? Did Zhixian
tell you?"

Ziwei nodded, "Yes, when I got my brother's call saying you were injured, I was scared
half to death ."

"Zhixian, really, calling you in the middle of the night and making you worry all night."

"Don't say that. Everyone was worried. It's so good to see you awake now."

"Ziwei, you're so good to me." Wenlun reached out and held her soft hand, whispering, "Come
closer , I have something to tell you."

Ziwei smiled and immediately did as he said, bringing her ear to his lips. Wenlun whispered, "I have something very important
to tell you, it's that I... I love you so much." He then gently
kissed her alabaster cheek.

Although it was a small kiss, it made Ziwei blush instantly. She was so shy that she wanted to move away, but
Wenlun had already pulled her close. Ziwei was about to say something, but before she could utter a single word, her lips were
sealed by a passionate mouth.

"Mmm..." A soft moan escaped Ziwei's lips. Ziwei's body trembled slightly. Under Wenlun
's kiss, she suddenly felt weak all over, her heart pounding. The man's greedy tongue
had penetrated deeply into her mouth, intensely and thirstily exploring its sweetness.

This kiss was both passionate and intoxicating. Wenlun kissed her deeply, the kiss growing increasingly intense, causing Ziwei
to moan softly and hoarsely. The alluring moans of the beautiful woman further intoxicated Wenlun.

When Wenlun realized his hand was slowly moving, wanting to take more from her, he suddenly came to his senses,
immediately withdrawing his hand, not daring to go any further, cursing inwardly, "I... what am I doing? A complete lecher..."

Even after Wenlun released his hand and withdrew his lips, Ziwei still stared at him blankly, because this sweetness had come
too suddenly. Her eyes were still filled with confusion, but her face was already flushed with embarrassment.

"Ziwei, I'm sorry, I... I acted impulsively..." Wenlun felt immediately ashamed and uneasy.

Ziwei shook her head, but didn't say a word, only keeping her beautiful eyes, still filled with the lingering passion, fixed
on the handsome man before her. Then, she suddenly leaned over and kissed Wenlun's lips.

Wenlun was overjoyed and, of course, gladly accepted this gift! This kiss not only expressed Ziwei's
love for him but also firmly bound their relationship together.

Just as they were passionately kissing, a nurse's voice suddenly rang out from the side: "You're
really something, so playful even after just waking up."

Hearing this, they quickly separated. Ziwei blushed shyly, lowering her head, not daring to look at the nurse.
Wenlun, however, kept scratching his head, staring intently at the nurse with a silly grin. "You should rest for a while now

. I'll go inform the doctor right away," the nurse said, smiling as she
turned and left.

Wenlun and Ziwei couldn't help but exchange a glance, then burst out laughing together. After three days of careful examination, it was confirmed that Wenlun was fine, only suffering a slight head injury. The doctor then allowed Wenlun to be discharged and go home to rest. Ziwei went straight to Wenlun's place as soon as she got off work today. She took out the key Zhixian had given her and entered the house. She saw Wenlun lying on the sofa, his forehead still wrapped in a white bandage, intently watching TV. The small coffee table beside him was covered with bags of snacks, candy wrappers, and peanut shells scattered around it. Wenlun saw Ziwei and immediately said, "Ziwei, you're here! Come watch TV, this program is hilarious." "What's wrong? Why aren't you resting in your room?" Ziwei put down the food she had just bought from the supermarket. Seeing the mess on the coffee table , she shook her head and began tidying up the clutter, asking, "Why are there so many snacks?" "I bought them outside at noon. Do you want some?" Wenlun handed her some potato chips. Upon hearing this, Ziwei immediately became worried: "You went out on your own? Didn't you hear the doctor's instructions? You absolutely mustn't do any strenuous exercise these next few days, and you need to rest more. How can you completely disregard your own health!" "It's just a walk, it's not really strenuous exercise. Besides, the head and the feet are completely different things. Going out for a walk to relieve some stuffiness is better than being stuck at home all day." Ziwei saw Wenlun intently watching the TV, laughing out loud from time to time, just like a big kid, and she found it amusing too. She couldn't help but shake her head and sigh: "You always make people worry. Next time you want to buy something, just let me know , okay?" Wenlun saw Ziwei engrossed in tidying up for him and felt a little guilty. He said, "Okay, I'll listen to you. Now, don't tidy up, come and keep me company for a while." As he spoke, he reached out and pulled her closer. Unexpectedly, Ziwei lost her balance when he pulled her, stumbled, and fell towards Wenlun, landing face-first on him. "Ah..." Wenlun saw this and immediately helped her up, pulling Ziwei into his arms. Ziwei blushed and tried to sit up, but Wenlun held her firmly in his embrace: "Will you watch TV with me for a while? I can clean up myself later." Being held by the man she loved was a very comfortable feeling. Ziwei nestled gently against his chest, her heart still pounding, but the boundless happiness overshadowed everything else.

Wenlun gently kissed her cheek, stroking her soft hair. It started as a small kiss, but
gradually grew passionate and intense! At the same time, Wenlun's hands roamed over her back, making Ziwei feel dizzy.
Her suddenly became numb and weak, and she could only lean against him, letting him do as he pleased.

Ziwei was initially puzzled by this change in herself. She had been intimate with Yangping many times before, but she had never experienced
this inexplicable passionate reaction. Yet now, just a gentle embrace and a kiss from Wenlun
had such a powerful impact on her. Was this the magic of love?
