Spring and summer have different appeals than autumn and winter.

I was initially puzzled as to why there seemed to be so many more people born in the second half of the year. Logically, the cold winter weather reduces even the desire to exercise, let alone be intimate with a partner. However, according to data from a database of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, on average, more men and women are born in the second half of each year across all provinces and cities. This suggests that the winter's heat doesn't extinguish desire; in fact, it might even burn brighter than in summer. It turns out that scientists have discovered that men are more forgiving of their partners' and other women's physical standards in winter, making them more easily attracted. A research team led by anthropologist Boguslaw Pawlowski and psychologist Piotr Sorokoski at the University of Wroc?aw in Poland surveyed 114 men aged 16 to 53 in January, May, August, and October of 2004, and February of 2005, asking them to rate the attractiveness of photos of their partners (if any) and a group of unfamiliar women. Three of the photos featured women in swimsuits with varying waist-to-hip ratios, three photos of women with average looks, and five close-ups of women's breasts of different sizes. The results showed that men had the lowest standards for women's waist-to-hip ratios and breast size during winter, resulting in the highest scores they gave to their partners and the women in the photos. At the start of summer, their standards suddenly increased significantly, leading to stricter ratings and the lowest scores for their partners and the women in the photos. However, their ratings for facial attractiveness remained constant throughout the year. Pawlowski suggests this is due to the contrast effect. In summer, women wear less clothing, revealing more of their figures, giving men more opportunities for visual stimulation and thus more stringent ratings. In winter, fantasies outweigh actual comparisons, leading to more lenient standards. Furthermore, in this study, approximately half of the men lived in rural areas and half in cities, and their rating standards differed. Men living in cities had higher standards for women's appearance and figure than those living in rural areas, again reflecting the contrast effect. It's not just men who are attracted to different female body types throughout the seasons. Another Pawlowski study found that when women are ovulating, they are attracted to men who are 14% to 19% taller than themselves. However, after ovulation, they tend to choose men of similar height. Therefore, timing is crucial to winning over your dream girl or prince.
