[Urban] Fangfang's Happy Life (Complete) - 25

In Chapter 14 of Part Two: Midsummer Encounter

, just as I was about to return to my office, the general manager called out to me, "Chen Wen, wait a moment, I have something to say to you."

Hearing the general manager's words, I stopped and asked, "General Manager, is there something you need?"

The general manager said, "Did Pei Ling and the others say anything to you just now?"

I shook my head and said, "No, but they seemed a little dissatisfied."

The general manager said, "Sigh! This is all my fault. I really shouldn't have let Manager Huang handle this matter."

I didn't understand what was going on, so I stood silently to the side.

Shortly after, the general manager said, "Chen Wen, I have a favor to ask you."

I asked, puzzled, "What is it?"

The general manager said, "Come to my office after work, and I'll explain in detail."

I nodded and said, "Okay."

The general manager then added, "Chen Wen, please don't tell Pei Ling and Xin Hui about this."

I nodded again and said, "Okay."

...After returning to my office, although I kept wondering what the general manager wanted me to do, I couldn't tell Pei Ling and the others, so I kept it to myself and decided to wait until after work.

However, today, Pei Ling and Xin Hui were unusually engrossed in reading novels at their desks!

I asked curiously, "Sister Peiling, what brings you all to read novels today?"

Peiling laughed and said, "We're not working anyway, so we're just killing time."

I said, a little surprised, "Oh, so you can do anything when you're not working?"

Xinhui said, "Chen Wen, how could you not know about these working-class things?"

I shook my head and said, "I thought only government employees could 'read tea and eat newspapers' like that."

Xinhui laughed at my comment and said, "'Read tea and eat newspapers'? How did you even come up with that?"

Peiling said, "Actually, whenever we have work..." "There are no holidays. We only work until we're good, and when there's no work, the company doesn't care about us."

I said, "Do you guys have to come to the company on Saturdays?"

Pei-ling asked, "Chen Wen, since there's not much work right now, why don't you come out with us later?"

I said, "Out? Where to?"

Xin-hui said, "Let's just go for a walk. Staying in the company is boring."

How could I say no to my boss? I

nodded and said, "Okay." Hearing my agreement, Pei-ling said, "Then I'll get my things ready, and we can go out."

She and Xin-hui went to get ready.

... Soon after, I was inside a department store, but I realized that coming with them was a big mistake, because they both liked to browse cosmetics, women's clothing, and other counters, and I was carrying their things behind them.

They finally left the department store after shopping for almost an hour. I was thinking of going back to the company, feeling a sense of relief, when I heard Pei-ling say to Hsin-hui, "Hsin-hui, it seems like a fashion boutique has opened over there. My friend said the styles are really trendy. I want to go check it out."

Hsin-hui agreed, "Great! I've been wanting to buy some summer clothes to dress myself up."

I really didn't want to go anymore, so I said tactfully, "Pei-ling, haven't we been out for too long? Should we go back to the company first and see if anything comes up?"

Pei-ling said, "Who cares? We're going to shop to our hearts' content before going back."

Hsin-hui chimed in, "Hey, Chen Wen, didn't you often skip classes when you were students? Just think of it as skipping work, what's there to be afraid of?"

"Skipping work! How could she even think of that?"

I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.

I tried to persuade them, saying, "But..." Pei-ling interrupted, "But, but what! Chen Wen, if you're not going, go back first. Xin-hui and I will go."

After saying that, she pulled Xin-hui away.

Xin-hui looked at me first, then whispered to Pei-ling, "Are you really going to let him go back alone?"

Pei-ling laughed and said, "I don't believe he'll go back alone."

Xin-hui looked at me again, not moving at all, and asked Pei-ling again, "But judging from his expression, he might not go back."

Pei-ling was also a little worried and said, "Then what should we do? Did I say something too harsh?"

Xin-hui laughed at Pei-ling and said, "I always have to clean up your mess."

She turned around and called out to me, "Chen Wen, what are you still standing there for? Hurry up and come with me."

I really wanted to go back, but when I heard Xin-hui calling me, I felt embarrassed to go back alone, so I had no choice but to continue walking with the two of them.

...Upon arriving at the clothing store, the two of them started browsing again, just like before, selecting clothes. Since they also had men's clothing, I casually looked around as well.

A salesperson came over and greeted me, saying, "Sir, all the clothes here are the latest styles."

I nodded, looked at a few items that seemed nice, but as soon as I saw the price tags, I immediately put them back and obediently stood there waiting for Xin Hui and the others.

Pei Ling noticed me standing alone and came over to ask, "Chen Wen, I see you're wearing the same few clothes all the time. Why don't you take this opportunity to buy a few new ones?"

"Buy a few! Do you really want me to starve until the end of the month?"

I shook my head and said, "No need. Having clothes to wear is enough. Why buy new clothes?"

Pei Ling said, "Chen Wen, people need to dress themselves up to show their best side. If you look like this every day, even if you have a good side, others won't see it. Haven't you heard, 'Clothes make the man, and gold makes the Buddha'?" "

Huh?"

I said, almost laughing, "It's okay, I don't care about my appearance."

Pei-ling wanted to say something more, but Hsin-hui called out to her, "Pei-ling, Pei-ling, look at this dress, it's nice."

Pei-ling saw the dress in Hsin-hui's hand and went over to look at it.

Hsin-hui said with ulterior motives, "Pei-ling, go try it on."

Pei-ling was initially reluctant, but Hsin-hui subtly pointed at me, so Pei-ling took the dress and went into the fitting room.

Hsin-hui waved for me to come over, so I went over. Hsin-hui said, "Chen Wen, can you help me see if Pei-ling looks good in this dress?"

I said, "I don't think I need to see, I think you and Pei-ling both look good in anything."

Hsin-hui said happily, "Chen Wen, you have a sweet tongue, no wonder Pei-ling... um... anyway, just go and see."

I noticed that Hsin-hui stopped mid-sentence, which was a little strange, but I was too embarrassed to ask further, so I nodded.

Just as we were talking, Pei-ling had changed her clothes and came out of the fitting room.

It turned out the outfit was a red suit. When Pei-ling put it on, the top subtly revealed her cleavage, exuding a glamorous aura. Combined with her long, white legs beneath the short skirt, I was completely mesmerized.

Seeing my expression, Pei-ling knew I was captivated by her outfit and beamed with delight.

Xin-hui, noticing my reaction, called out, "Chen Wen, are you staring?!"

I snapped out of my daze and laughed awkwardly, "Pei-ling, if you wore this to the company, I guarantee no guy would be able to stay at work."

Pei-ling smiled happily at my compliment and said, "Who wants to wear that for those stinky guys?"

I asked, puzzled, "If not for them, are you going to just look at yourself at home?"

Xin-hui, hearing my lack of understanding, scolded me, "Chen Wen, girls wear pretty clothes to show off to their loved ones. How can you not even understand that?"

Pei-ling blushed at Xin-hui's words, as if embarrassed.

I was thinking to myself, "Strange? Why hasn't Xiaoyao ever worn any pretty clothes for me?"

Peiling, seeing that I didn't react, assumed I was shy and changed the subject, saying, "Xinhui, I think you should try this one on. I think it suits you well."

Xinhui nodded and said, "Okay, I'll try it on."

After saying that, she also got a dress from the waiter and prepared to try it on.

Peiling then looked in the mirror, and it was clear at a glance that she really liked this dress.

After Pei-ling looked in the mirror, she noticed me staring at her and said shyly, "Chen Wen, do you really think I look good in this?"

I honestly replied, "Of course! If you don't look good in it, I doubt many people would."

Pei-ling then whispered, "Chen Wen, you know what? I've only worn pretty clothes to show off to guys twice."

I was a little curious and said, "Pei-ling, with your looks, you must have dated quite a few guys, right? Don't you often go out with them?"

Pei-ling shook her head and said, "Actually, my family was very strict; I hardly ever had the chance to date other guys ." "I only had a chance to meet the boys after I started working,"

I said, suddenly realizing. "Oh, I see. Then I think one of the boys must be the Guozheng you were talking about. I wonder who the other one is?"

Peiling gave me a meaningful look and said, "I'm not telling you."

I thought to myself, "This girl is really strange. She won't tell me, but she just told me so much."

At this moment, Xinhui also came out after changing her clothes. Compared to Peiling, Xinhui had a more unrestrained beauty because she deliberately pulled her top down a little, making the whole dress look like a low-cut top.

Because I had already been captivated by Peiling once, I had more self-control this time and joked, "Are you two trying to bring the company to a standstill?"

Xinhui showed a charming smile, looked in the mirror, and checked if there was anything wrong.

At this moment, the saleswoman also said, "This dress, combined with the figures of the two ladies, is really like it was tailor-made for you."

Peiling and Xinhui heard the saleswoman say this and looked at themselves carefully in the mirror.

The sales assistant said, "Ladies, we don't have many of these bright red outfits, and not many people can pull them off as well as you two."

Pei-ling turned around, looked at me, and said, "Chen Wen, what do you think?"

Xin-hui also said, "Yeah, Chen Wen, do you think we look good together?"

"How boring! Why do you keep asking if we look good when we're buying clothes?"

I could only say, "Of course we look good."

Pei-ling asked Xin-hui, "So, do you like them?"

Xin-hui looked at Pei-ling, then at herself, and said, "Okay, let's buy them and wear them out together another day."

Pei-ling nodded and said to the sales assistant, "Wrap both of these up!"

... I asked the two of them, "Are we going back now?"

Pei-ling looked at her watch and said, "We should go back now. Sigh! It's been so long since I've had such a happy shopping trip."

Xin-hui also nodded and said, "Yeah, Pei-ling, I noticed you haven't been shopping for a long time, but today is really great."

"Happy, joyful? Why do these two like to build their happiness on my suffering?"

I felt a little helpless.

Xin Hui looked at the bags I was carrying and asked, "Chen Wen, you must have had a hard time coming out with us today."

I looked at my own pile of things and smiled wryly, saying, "It's okay!"

Pei Ling said, "Chen Wen, how about we treat you to something to eat before we go back?"

"Oh! That's very considerate."

I agreed, "Okay, but if you're going to treat, treat me to dinner, don't just buy something."

Pei Ling looked at Xin Hui, wanting to ask her opinion, but Xin Hui smiled, indicating she didn't care. Pei Ling then said, "Alright, let's go back to the company first, and then have dinner together tonight." Still relying on my hands? How can that be enjoyable? Only then did I remember the general manager's words, and seeing that it was almost time to leave work, I said, "Right, we need to hurry back."

After work, Pei-ling asked me, "Chen Wen, let's go."

I wanted to say that the general manager wanted to see me, but then I remembered that he had said to keep it a secret, so I said perfunctorily, "Wait a minute, I have some things to do."

Xin-hui asked curiously, "Chen Wen, what else is it?"

I smiled and said, "Um, personal matters, personal matters."

At this moment, Xiu-xuan came over to me and called out, "A-Wen."

The three of us turned around to look. I didn't know why Xiu-xuan wanted to see me, but Xin-hui laughed and pointed at Xiu-xuan, saying to me, "Personal matters?"

Pei-ling seemed to have an unhappy expression on her face, but I didn't have time to think about it and hurriedly denied it, saying, "No, no."

Then I said, "Xiao-mei, what brings you here?"

Xiu-xuan saw me... The three of them whispered among themselves, and one asked curiously, "Ling, what are you all doing? Why are you all together?"

Pei-ling said, "Nothing, we're going to have dinner together later, do you want to come?"

Xiu-xuan smiled and said, "What a coincidence! I was also going to find Wen to have dinner with."

But then she asked me, "Wen, didn't you say you were short on money? Why are you going to eat with them?"

I said, "They're treating."

Xiu-xuan looked at Pei-ling a little incredulously and said, "Really? Can I come along?"

Pei-ling almost laughed and said, "Sure, the three of us haven't gone out together in a long time."

Xiu-xuan pulled Pei-ling and said, "Let's go then."

Xin-hui pointed at me and said, "It's all because of this guy, saying he has personal things to do?"

Xiuxuan looked at me suspiciously and said, "Awen, what's wrong? Why don't you tell me?"

I said, "Well... oh, why don't you go by yourselves? I really have something to do."

Peiling said, "How about we go home first, Chen Wen? You can come back later and come with us."

I nodded and said, "That's fine."

I asked again, "What about Xiaomei?"

Xiuxuan said, "I'll go to Peiling's house to wait for you."

I said, "Okay, I'll come over as soon as I'm done."

Peiling said, "No need to rush. Go back and take a shower first before you come over." "

Xin Hui looked at my clothes and said, 'Chen Wen, remember to dress more presentably.'

I looked at myself first and said a little embarrassedly, 'Sister Xin Hui, I only have this one hundred and one outfit.'

Xiu Xuan heard me say this and laughed, saying, 'Wen, old habits die hard! I saw you dressed so casually in high school, and I didn't expect you to still be the same in college.' I

laughed too and said, 'It's just my nature.'"

Chapter 15 of Part Two: Midsummer Encounter

"Chen Wen!"

The general manager called out to me as I walked down the street.

"General Manager, what brings you here?" I

asked in surprise as I saw the general manager standing outside the office.

"I've been standing here for a long time,"

the general manager said with a smile.

"Then she saw...?"

I thought to myself, my expression becoming very unnatural.

"Chen Wen, it's okay. Remember to talk to Pei Ling properly."

The general manager seemed to have misunderstood the relationship between Pei Ling and me.

"General Manager, Sister Peiling and I..." Before I could finish speaking, the General Manager interrupted, "Alright, that's not the main reason I called you today. I have another purpose for calling you."

Now I was curious too, and asked the General Manager, "General Manager, what is it?"

"This matter shouldn't actually be handled by you, but they specifically requested it from you. Sigh!"

Judging from the General Manager's words, this matter seemed more complicated than it appeared.

I was completely confused and looked at the General Manager with a puzzled expression.

Seeing my expression, the general manager smiled and said apologetically, "I was too vague. Let me explain. You know we need to contact XX Company for business, but after speaking with them on the phone today, they specifically requested you to go. However, since you're a part-time student, you can't represent the company in business negotiations, so the case is at a standstill." I

thought to myself, "XX Company? Isn't that Xin Hui's father's company? Why would they want me to go? Is it because of what I said the other day?"

The general manager continued, "But if XX Company doesn't help with this case, we'll have wasted our time. I really don't want Pei Ling and Xin Hui's efforts to be in vain, so I contacted you privately." At this point, I finally understood the

general manager's intention and shouted, "Do you want me to go to XX Company to negotiate on my own?"

The general manager smiled and nodded.

... All the way home, I thought about what the general manager had just said, and I couldn't help but feel bitter. That old hag actually wanted me to go to the enemy's headquarters alone! It seems I'm barely alive now, if not dead.

But at least she still has some humanity left; she gave me three days off and a business trip allowance of 10,000 yuan. Looks like I can treat myself well for these three days.

As I walked, I pondered how to spend this money to make it worthwhile for myself. Finally, I decided to take a solo trip to Taipei to visit some old classmates for three days.

The more I thought about it, the happier I became, almost forgetting my date until my digital watch beeped.

Remembering that Pei-ling and the others were still waiting for me, I hurriedly ran home.

...In the evening.

I quickly ran towards where Pei-ling and the others lived.

I thought they might have been waiting for a long time, but there was no one downstairs at the apartment. I had no choice but to press the intercom.

"Who is it?"

a voice came from the intercom.

"It's me! Chen Wen!"

"Oh! Chen Wen, why are you only arriving now?"

The tone on the intercom sounded unpleasant.

I said apologetically, "Something came up and I was delayed. I'm so sorry."

"Okay, wait downstairs for a bit, we'll be right down."

After saying that, I turned off the intercom.

I waited there like an idiot for over half an hour, until I was so hungry I couldn't stand it anymore, so I had to press the intercom again.

"Who is it?"

The voice came through again, but this time I recognized it as Xin Hui's voice.

"Sister Xin Hui, why haven't you come down yet?"

I asked, puzzled.

"Oh! Chen Wen, the TV series isn't finished yet, you'll have to wait a little longer."

After waiting for so long, it turned out Xin Hui was watching TV!

I said impatiently, "Sister Xin Hui, I think we should just forget about it today, I won't bother you anymore." As soon as

I finished speaking, I turned around and left, ignoring the voice on the intercom.

However, the apartment door opened immediately, and a voice called out, "Awen, don't be angry."

I turned around and saw it was Xiaomei. I asked her, "What are you guys doing?" Xiaomei

walked over to me, glanced at Xinhui, and said, "It's all Xinhui's fault. She said she'd make you wait a while."

"Wait a while? I've been waiting for over half an hour!"

I was furious.

"Chen Wen, you were the one who was late first, that's why I deliberately made you wait so long,"

Xinhui said righteously.

"I already apologized to you, and I didn't do it on purpose, it's because..." I stopped abruptly, remembering the general manager's instructions not to leak anything.

"Because? Because what?"

Peiling asked, puzzled.

"Nothing, it's because of something at school, I had to go there, that's why I'm so late,"

I lied.

"Fine! Chen Wen, it's only been half an hour, haven't you ever waited for your girlfriend before?"

Xinhui insisted, refusing to admit her mistake.

“Yes, but I’ve never waited for a girl who isn’t my girlfriend. Sister Xin Hui, you guys invited me today, not the other way around. Don’t you think that’s going too far?”

I said, voicing my thoughts.

“Hmph! Chen Wen, you’re making such a fuss just because I made you wait a little while. That’s so ungentlemanly,”

Xin Hui said, pouting and crossing her arms.

I thought to myself, “I’m not pursuing her, and I have money now. Why should I put up with this?”

Nodding, I said, "Yes, I'm not very classy. I'm not suited to go out with rich young ladies like you. It's okay, I'll leave right away."

After saying this, I left immediately, ignoring Xiaomei and Peiling's calls.

...Walking along the way, I somehow ended up home. Only then did I realize I hadn't had dinner, so I went to the snack shop where Mingzhang worked.

As soon as I entered, I saw Xiaomo standing by the counter.

I looked around to see if Mingzhang was there, but Xiaomo smiled and said, "Senior Chen Wen, no need to look, Mingzhang isn't here today."

"Oh,"

I nodded in response.

Xiaomo then asked, "Does Senior want to eat something today?"

"Why not?"

I asked, puzzled.

"But no one will pay for you today, and we don't allow credit here."

Xiaomo actually thought I had run out of money again.

"Didn't you say you'd treat me to a meal last time? You can pay today."

Actually, I was just joking; I didn't really have anything to say.

"Okay,"

Xiao Mo surprisingly nodded.

I said in surprise, "No need, I was just joking."

"Senior, it's alright. Order whatever you want quickly, so I can listen to your stories,"

Xiao Mo said nonchalantly.

"Oh no, am I really going to have to tell stories?"

Although I thought this to myself, I still ordered a few dishes and sat down at a nearby table.

Xiao Mo brought over the dishes I ordered and grabbed two cans of soda, then sat down next to me.

I didn't stand on ceremony at all and started eating with my chopsticks.

Surprisingly, Xiao Mo didn't say anything until I put down my chopsticks. Then she opened a can of soda, gave it to me, and asked, "Are you full?"

"Oh, so full,"

I said, stretching.

"Can we start now?"

Xiao Mo finally asked.

"Actually, there's not much to say. It's just that I pursued her, right? What do you want to hear?"

I didn't understand why Xiao Mo was so interested in my relationship with Xiao Yao.

"I heard that you two started with an exam competition?"

Xiao Mo asked.

I recalled the situation back then and slowly said, "Yeah, back then, Xiao Yao was the top student in the cram school, but she said that whoever could beat her could ask her out to the dance."

"So you competed with her?"

"How could I dare to compete with her back then? But some of my friends had written my name on it, so I had no choice but to bite the bullet."

I was still angry when I thought of Monkey's actions back then.

"But that's how you won Xiao Yao's heart."

"Yeah, that's how it is. Is there anything else you want to know?"

I finally agreed with Xiao Yao.

"By the way, do you know Jiang Shumei?"

Xiao Mo asked.

"You mean Jiang Shumei, the 'Queen of Gossip' at school?"

"Yes."

"I don't know her."

I shook my head.

"But recently there's been a rumor at school that you're Jiang Shumei's new boyfriend."

Xiao Mo's words startled me.

"Xiao Mo, don't talk nonsense, how could that be?"

I quickly denied it.

"It's not me making things up, anyone who's been to school for summer classes knows about this."

Xiao Mo said seriously.

"Really or not? I don't know anything about it."

I was very puzzled.

"Judging from your expression, you really don't know about this?"

Xiao Mo asked, seeing my innocent look.

"I don't know, but there's no way such a rumor could exist."

I shook my head.

"That's strange, who spread it?"

Xiao Mo also wondered.

"Never mind, it's getting late, thank you for today, I have to go now."

I stood up and said.

"Goodbye, senior, I hope you can come with Senior Xiao Yao next time."

Xiao Mo said goodbye.

The next morning, I took the earliest northbound train, heading straight for Taipei. Bored,

I sat in my seat, looking out the window at the scenery, and couldn't help but think of the scene with Xiaoyao yesterday.

"What? You said you're going to Taipei?"

Xiaoyao asked in surprise when she heard I was going to Taipei.

"Yes."

"Then I want to go too."

Xiaoyao said eagerly.

"What are you going to do? It's my uncle's funeral, not a wedding. It's not a suitable occasion for you."

I deliberately lied.

"Is it true?"

Xiaoyao looked at me suspiciously, seemingly not believing me.

"Would I lie to you about a dead person? Besides, I don't want to go either, but my parents insist I go!"

I feigned helplessness.

"Hmm, I doubt you'd joke about a dead person."

Xiaoyao agreed.

But Xiaoyao knew me too little; what lie couldn't I tell?

"When are you coming back?"

"Three days."

"Okay, be careful."

...At this moment, bored, I couldn't help but regret not asking Xiao Yao to come with me. Actually, there was a reason for it. After all, none of my former classmates had girlfriends. If I rashly brought a girl up, they would think I was provoking them.

But even so, it had been a year since I'd seen him. Maybe he had a bunch of girlfriends, and I would be so embarrassed.

"Sigh! Whatever, I'll just take a nap first."

I closed my eyes, preparing to sleep all the way to Taipei.

But as soon as I closed my eyes, I heard a voice say, "Sir, I'm sorry."

I immediately opened my eyes and looked at the girl standing next to me.

"What is it?"

I asked.

"I need to go in."

The girl pointed to my feet. I realized that my feet were blocking her way, and said apologetically, "I'm sorry."

I immediately pulled my foot back, and the girl nodded and sat down inside.

At that moment, I was wide awake and carefully observed the girl next to me. She was very bold, wearing a sleeveless top with thin straps, sunglasses, and a short skirt, making it impossible for me to take my eyes off her.

Although I didn't look at her directly, her sidelong glances were soon noticed by her. She glared at me fiercely, so I quickly turned my head away, closed my eyes, and pretended not to notice.

And that's how I slept all the way to Taipei.

…“Attention passengers, Taipei, Taipei Station. Passengers who wish to disembark, please disembark immediately.”

I only woke up when I heard this announcement, and realized that the girl next to me had gotten off the train sometime earlier. Without thinking too much, I grabbed my luggage and hurriedly ran off the train.

After getting off the bus, I immediately headed towards the ticket counter. Before I even reached it, I heard a familiar voice say, "Officer, that's him!"

Two police officers approached me and said, "Sir, we need your help with something."

"What is it?"

I turned around. It was the girl from before, accompanied by two officers.

"This young lady said her purse went missing, and you happened to be sitting next to her, so we'd like to check your luggage,"

the officer said politely.

I looked at the girl and said with a wry smile, "You're really ruthless."

Then I handed my luggage to the officer for a search.

They searched thoroughly but didn't find the girl's purse, so they put the luggage back in the luggage compartment and returned it to me.

"Can I go now?"

I asked the officer.

Just as the policeman was about to answer, the girl interjected, "Officer, maybe he hid it on his person."

The policeman looked at me with a wry smile. I opened my arms to indicate that I didn't care. The policeman then came over and searched me. To my surprise, he found a woman's purse.

"Officer, this is my purse, and my ID is inside,"

the girl said happily.

"How could that be?"

I said doubtfully, "I didn't steal her purse."

The two policemen looked at the ID in the purse and saw that it belonged to the woman. They immediately stared at me.

"Miss, I've been sleeping ever since you got on the bus. How could I possibly steal your purse?"

I said anxiously to the woman.

"Hmph! I saw you staring at me the moment I got on the bus. So you really did have ulterior motives."

The girl didn't speak up for me at all.

"Sir, please come with us to the police station."

The two policemen grabbed me.

“Officer, I can vouch for this gentleman; he didn’t steal this lady’s purse. He was asleep the whole time, and it was this lady who slipped the purse into his clothes. We initially thought they were a couple.”

Two girls approached and argued with me.

“Miss, you’re really ruthless! I just glanced at you, and you’re using this method against me?”

I was stunned; I never expected the girl to treat me this way.

“Who told you to keep staring at me with those thieving eyes? Since you have thieving eyes, I’ll make you a thief!”

the girl retorted defiantly.

“Okay, okay, I admit I was wrong. I won’t argue with you.”

I said to the police, “Can I go now?”

The two officers smiled wryly and said, “Sir, we don’t handle these kinds of cases. You’ll have to resolve this yourselves.”

Then they left.

I ignored the girl and walked out of Taipei Main Station alone.

...

Part Two: Midsummer Encounter, Chapter 16.

I walked out of Taipei Main Station, thinking about what had just happened, and chuckled to myself, "That's ridiculous! I only glanced at her a couple of times, and she pulled this stunt on me. Luckily someone saw me, otherwise I'd be locked up!"

Just then, my friend Ah-Zhi, who lives in Taipei, arrived at the station. Seeing me standing there lost in thought, he called out, "Ah-Wen, over here!"

I looked up and saw Ah-Zhi, and immediately went to him.

"What were you thinking about? Why didn't you respond for so long?"

Ah-Zhi asked suspiciously.

"Nothing,"

I replied, unwilling to recount my embarrassing moment.

"Then get on, I'll take you to your accommodation,"

Ah-Zhi urged.

"Okay."

I got on Ah-Zhi's scooter, and he took me away from Taipei Main Station. However, I missed something that could have made me happy.

... "Miss, is this the way?"

the taxi driver asked the woman who had tricked me.

"Yes, yes, wait a moment, let me get the money first."

After saying this, the young woman searched around, and after a while, she realized that her purse was indeed gone.

She said nervously, "My purse is gone!"

"Miss, I don't care if your purse is gone or not, you have to pay for your ride. Don't try to ride for free!"

the driver scolded impatiently.

"Driver, I'm sorry, my purse is really gone. Could you wait a moment, I'll go down and find a friend to pay for me?"

the young woman said anxiously.

"Do you think I'm an idiot? Do you think I'll be able to find you after I get off?"

the driver scolded again upon hearing the young woman's words.

"Then, what do you want me to do?"

the young woman asked helplessly.

Looking at the young woman, the driver knew that her purse had probably really been stolen, and could only sigh and say, "Okay, okay, I admit it. The first customer didn't bring any money. You can get off now."

"This…" the young woman said, seemingly embarrassed.

"Hurry up and get out, I need to find the next customer,"

the driver urged.

"Driver, I'm so sorry, could you give me your phone number? I'll call you as soon as I have a penny."

"No need, consider it bad luck."

As soon as the woman got out, the driver stepped on the gas and sped away, leaving her standing there dumbfounded.

...I only found out about this later. At the time, I was overjoyed, but if I knew now, I'd probably be even happier.

Ah-Zhi was really reckless on his bike, weaving through the streets of Taipei, and soon we arrived at the hotel where I would be staying for the next three days.

Ah-Zhi stopped and said, "This is it."

Looking at the hotel, I noticed its exquisite decor and magnificent architecture. Worried, I asked, "Ah-Zhi, can I afford a place like this?"

"Don't worry, I've already arranged everything for you. The manager here is my uncle. I asked him to reserve a room for you, but I thought you'd bring your girlfriend, so I booked a double room. It's probably too big now,"

Ah-Zhi said, looking at me alone.

"It's okay, I don't like small rooms anyway. Come on, take me inside,"

I said, carrying my luggage.

"Okay,"

Ah-Zhi parked his motorcycle and led me inside.

I followed Ah-Zhi to the counter and saw the girl from before arguing with the staff.

Ah-Zhi went over, called out "Uncle," and asked, "Uncle, I brought a classmate."

"Oh, Ah-Zhi, wait a moment, let me deal with this lady first,"

the staff member glanced at Ah-Zhi and then turned away.

I remained silent, quietly listening to their conversation.

Ah Zhi's uncle first said, "Miss, it's not that we won't let you stay, but you don't have any documents and no money. That's not in accordance with our hotel's rules."

"Didn't I say I just lost my purse? Please let me stay first, and I'll have my father pick me up tomorrow,"

the girl said, dissatisfied.

"No, what if other guests come later?"

Ah Zhi's uncle refused to agree no matter what.

"You..." The girl was furious, but there was nothing she could do.

"Ah Zhi, let me show you the room." Ah

Zhi's uncle took out a key, then instructed the other staff at the front desk before leading the way inside.

"Ah Wen, let's go,"

Ah Zhi called to me and followed him inside.

On a whim, I walked up to the girl and said gleefully, "Miss, even the most careful night walker can run into a ghost. Who are you trying to frame this time? Should I pretend to be a cop and chase after him?"

The girl was already angry about her missing purse, and seeing me still berating her, she snapped, "Get out of here! I don't want to see you!"

"Oh, I'd better hurry, or you might bring two more cops and say my purse is yours. Then I'll be the one who loses out."

I laughed as I said this, then immediately ran inside, ignoring the girl.

... "Zhi, is your classmate satisfied with this room?"

Zhi's uncle showed Zhi and me around a fairly large double room and asked for my opinion. Zhi looked at me with a puzzled expression.

I immediately nodded in agreement.

"Okay, you can sleep here for the next couple of days,"

Zhi's uncle said.

"Ah-Zhi, you chat with your classmate a bit longer, I'm

going out now," Ah-Zhi's uncle said before leaving.

"Ah-Zhi, your uncle is really nice, finding such a nice room for me,"

I said, looking around the room.

"Of course! The first time I came to Taipei, my uncle found me an even bigger suite,"

Ah-Zhi boasted.

"Then I'll call him my uncle too,"

I said, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Ah-Wen, don't sit still, come on, I'll show you around Taipei,"

Ah-Zhi said, pulling me along.

Although I really wanted to rest for a while, I felt bad refusing Ah-Zhi's offer, so I went out with him.

When I went out, I saw the girl sitting on the sofa, waiting for something. I wanted to tease her, but seeing her pitiful look, I held back and went shopping with Ah-Zhi.

...Ah-Zhi took me shopping all day, finally taking me to a tea shop to rest.

As soon as I entered, I heard someone say, "Ah-Zhi, who's that guy next to you? He looks so tacky!"

Ah-Zhi replied somewhat unhappily, "Don't talk nonsense, he's my former classmate."

I then turned around and saw that it was a saleswoman at the counter talking to Ah-Zhi.

"By the way, has Xiao-Wen arrived yet?"

Ah-Zhi asked the girl.

"Yes, of course she has! Can you two go a whole day without seeing each other?"

the girl said with a smile.

"Alright, give us two cups of green tea."

After Ah-Zhi finished speaking, he led me to a table to sit down.

"Ah-Wen, what do you think? Is Taipei fun?"

Ah-Zhi asked me.

"It's not bad, very bustling, but I just don't feel like it suits me,"

I said, expressing my thoughts after spending the whole day sightseeing.

"No, I wasn't used to it when I first arrived, but I've gradually gotten used to this kind of life over the past year."

At that moment, a girl with a good figure and pretty face, but not particularly outstanding overall, walked over. Ah Zhi immediately stood up, took the green tea from her hand, and considerately said, "I'll take care of it."

Then he gave me one cup and drank the other himself.

"Ah Zhi, who is he?"

The girl sat next to Ah Zhi and asked him softly.

"His name is Chen Wen, he's my best classmate,"

Ah Zhi introduced me.

I'm a very tactful person, so I immediately smiled and said, "Hello, sister-in-law, just call me Ah Wen."

"What sister-in-law? Don't talk nonsense."

Although the girl said that, she seemed a little happy from her expression.

"By the way, Ah Wen, you still don't have a girlfriend?"

Ah Zhi asked me.

"Girlfriend, this is a long story, let's not talk about it."

I made up my mind and shook my head, saying, "No."

"Ah Wen, do you want me to introduce you to a few?"

Ah Zhi actually offered to introduce me to some.

I immediately shook my head in a panic, saying, "No, no."

"Hahaha! Ah Wen, don't be shy."

Ah Zhi saw my expression and laughed.

"I'm not shy, if Xiao Yao finds out I'll be in big trouble."

I thought to myself.

After chatting for a while, Ah Zhi said, "Ah Wen, I think it's getting late, I'll take you back to the hotel first."

I looked out the window and saw that it was indeed very dark, and then I looked at my watch and realized it was almost eleven o'clock, so I nodded and went back to the hotel with Ah Zhi.

...As soon as we got back to the hotel, Ah Zhi went home first.

As soon as I stepped into the hotel, I saw that girl still sitting there, but this time Ah Zhi's uncle seemed to be talking to her again, and the girl didn't seem to agree, her face wasn't very good.

I initially intended to go straight into the room, but my curiosity got the better of me, so I walked over to Ah Zhi's uncle and asked, "Uncle, what's going on?"

"Oh, it's you, Ah Wen, you're back?"

the uncle greeted me warmly.

"Yes, Uncle, what happened?"

I asked curiously.

"It's all because of this young lady. We stop accepting guests after 11 o'clock, so I wanted to ask her to leave, but she refused, which really put me in a difficult position,"

the uncle said, looking troubled.

I looked at the girl; she was still wearing the same thin, spaghetti-strap top and short skirt as in the morning, and the air conditioning in the hotel was blasting. She looked like she was freezing, shivering all over.

The girl thought I was staring at her and had some ulterior motive, and snapped, "What are you looking at? Aren't you afraid I'll mess with you again?"

Although she was angry, I could tell from her words that she was exhausted.

I said to my uncle, "Uncle, I know this girl. I think she can stay in my room tonight. I can't sleep in two beds by myself anyway."

The girl, unimpressed, replied, "Who asked you to be a good guy? I don't know what you're up to."

"Alright, let's have Wen 'settle' her,"

my uncle said, then laughed and left.

"Come on, let me take you back to your room. It'll be warmer there,"

I said to the girl, reaching for her hand.

But the girl pulled her hand back and exclaimed, "Don't touch me!"

"Miss, if I hadn't glanced at you earlier, I wouldn't have bothered with you. If you don't want to accept my apology, then you'll have to figure something out yourself."

I didn't actually have any ulterior motives towards this girl. To be honest, her sunglasses almost covered half her face; how would I know if she was round or flat?

"Aren't you angry that I messed with you this morning?"

the girl asked suspiciously.

"How could I not be upset? But I'm also a little wrong. Being tricked by you is my retribution, but..." I deliberately dragged out my words.

"But what?"

the girl asked.

"Next time, if you don't want others to see you, don't dress like this. If you're going to wear it, you shouldn't mind others seeing you."

"Hmph! I like wearing pretty clothes, but I don't like being looked at with those lecherous eyes of yours."

The girl pouted.

"Okay, okay, so are you coming back to the room with me or not? I'm

very tired and want to go back to my room to sleep." I hadn't rested since I got here from the car early this morning, and I said wearily.

"You're not planning to do anything to me, are you?"

the girl asked nervously.

"Miss, even if I wanted to do something to you, I'd have to wait until tomorrow. I'm just too tired today."

I said with a bitter face.

The girl looked at me suspiciously.

"Okay, okay, you can sit here until dawn."

I ignored her and went to my room alone.

"Hey! You sleep in that bed, don't you dare mess with me tonight."

The girl finally followed me into the room and started bossing me around. I really didn't know if this was my room or hers.

"Okay, okay."

I ignored her and lay down.

The girl observed me for a while before slowly lying down on the left side of the bed.

"By the way, miss, I have a name, so don't call me 'Hey! Hey!' anymore."

I suddenly remembered this and said it.

"How am I supposed to know your name?"

"My name is Chen Wen, my friends call me A-Wen. By the way, what's your name?"

I introduced myself and asked her name.

"Why are you asking so many questions?"

The girl seemed annoyed.

"Okay, okay, anyway, after tonight we'll be strangers, so you don't need to worry about my name or yours. Goodnight, I'm turning off the lights."

I didn't want to argue with the girl anymore, so I went along with her.

"You can't turn off the light! Who knows what you'll do if you do?"

the girl reacted anxiously.

"Miss, how can I sleep with the light on?"

I really couldn't stand having light on while I slept.

"I don't care, you just can't turn off the light!"

the girl said unreasonably.

"Sigh! I guess I've invited a thief onto my boat."

After saying that, I ignored the girl, pulled the blanket over my head, and fell asleep.

The girl, for some reason, got up and came to my bedside to look at me.

She observed me for a moment, realized I was really asleep, pulled back the blanket, looked at me carefully, and said, "You're just like a pig, falling asleep as soon as you say it."

Looking at my sleeping face, the girl smiled and added, "Okay, let me tell you, my name is Tian Qing, remember that."
