My stunningly beautiful female boss at 29 (1993-1995)

93.
Thankfully, Aunt Zhuang's bone marrow transplant surgery was successful. I was overjoyed when I received this news from Zhuang Youting.
On the day Aunt Zhuang was discharged from the hospital, Zhuang Youting asked me to go to An Xiaomin's house. Uncle An had asked me to go; he had something to tell everyone.
So, I appeared at An Xiaomin's villa once again. Everyone from the An and Yang families, except for An Xiaomei, who was teaching in a remote mountain area, and Yang Anyi, who was boarding at school, was gathered together. Even Wen Qishan was there.
An Xiaomin didn't make eye contact with me at all. It seemed she still hadn't forgiven me, even though she had comforted me on WeChat and expressed her condolences for Sui Jinglei after learning of her death from Zhuang Youting.
"I've gathered everyone here today because there are two things I need to announce to you. These two things have been weighing on my heart for many years, causing me great pain and distress, until it became something I absolutely had to say..."
Uncle An said, and everyone looked at him. I already guessed what Uncle An was going to say, and my heart pounded, but I didn't know what the other thing he was going to talk about was.
Uncle Yang was a little puzzled and asked, "Guozi, isn't it one thing? How did it become two things?"
Uncle An and Aunt Zhuang exchanged glances, and Uncle An said to Uncle Yang, "Liewa, the other thing is about Huijuan and me, and it has nothing to do with you. Actually, the first thing also has little to do with you; it's all my fault..."
Uncle Yang immediately objected, saying, "What kind of talk is that? How can you say it has nothing to do with me? This whole thing started because of me. If it weren't for me back then, this wouldn't have happened..."
Everyone looked at the two old people curiously. Uncle An said, "Alright! Stop arguing. You tell the story, or should I?"
Uncle Yang slapped his thigh, lowered his head, and sighed heavily, "Sigh! You tell the story!"
"Then I'll tell you..." Under the increasingly curious gazes of everyone, Uncle An prepared to recount the events of many years ago.
“Dad, please stop talking…”
An Xiaomin suddenly said, squatting down beside her father, holding his hands, and looking at him with tears in her eyes. “If you and Uncle Yang wronged Uncle Chen back then, your two daughters have already paid for it. Mei Mei and I were tortured so badly by Chen Xingyan. Mei Mei no longer acknowledges me as her sister, and she won’t come home. Isn’t this God’s punishment for you and Uncle Yang?”
As she spoke, she turned to stare at me. “Chen Xingyan, do you think that’s enough? If not, come at me. Don’t force my dad and Uncle Yang to reopen old wounds in front of so many people.”
My feelings were complicated, and I lowered my head and remained silent. Uncle An gently stroked his daughter's face, wiping away her tears, his own eyes welling with tears. "Minmin, you have to bear the consequences of your own actions. This has tormented me for over thirty years. Just let me tell you, okay?"
An Xiaomin shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "No, Dad, don't say it..."
"Dad..." I began, and Uncle An and An Xiaomin looked at me in surprise. They were both puzzled that I would still call Uncle An "Dad" even now.
"Don't say it anymore, really, I don't care about this anymore."
I also shed tears. At that moment, I thought of the Sui Jinglei and Sui Jingfei sisters.
Uncle An wiped away his tears and slowly began his story.
"Back in the factory, there were three young men who were particularly close: me, Yifan's father, your Uncle Yang, and Xingyan's father, your Uncle Chen. Although we had very different personalities and ways of doing things, it didn't stop us from becoming best friends, as close as brothers..." "
Liewa was a production expert in the factory, and was named an advanced worker every year. Pingzi was a technician in the factory, a scholar, who usually enjoyed reading and studying things, and was also highly regarded by the factory. Only I was the most useless, always acting like the boss, always sticking my neck out for others, and I was once arrested for fighting and almost got fired from the factory." "
The three of us were called the Three Musketeers by the people in the factory. Pingzi gave us this name, saying it was the name of a novel written by a foreigner named... Dumas..."
"Alexandre Dumas," I said.
“Yes, yes, that’s the name…” Uncle An said. “At first, we just called it that for fun, and then it became a popular name in the factory. Sigh!”
Uncle An sighed. “Back then, the three of us thought we could be as close as brothers forever, and our three families could be as close as one family forever, but we never expected what happened later…”
The atmosphere in the house grew heavier and heavier, and everyone stared at Uncle An.
“That year, Liewa’s mother fell seriously ill. The expenses for surgery, hospitalization, and nutritional supplements were huge. He asked me for help, but our wages were low and we didn’t have any other way to make money, so I started thinking about stealing scrap metal from the factory.”
“At first, Liewa was hesitant. I said, ‘It’s just some scrap metal, what’s the big deal? Aren’t you going to treat your mother’s illness? If you’re worried about getting into trouble, then don’t worry about it, I’ll do it myself.’ Liewa said, ‘It’s my mother who’s sick, how can I let you take the risk alone?’”
“So the two of us brothers decided to do a few heists. Considering that Pingzi was a technical talent in the factory who was waiting for promotion, we kept it a secret from him so as not to implicate him.”
“One night, we stole scrap metal from the factory for what felt like the umpteenth time. We went to the scrap metal yard again, but this time, Pingzi secretly followed us. He thought Liewa and I had been acting suspiciously lately, so that night he squatted outside my house and followed us all the way here.”
“Pingzi stopped us right away, saying we were too reckless. This was illegal; at worst, we'd be fired, at worst, jail. Did we not want to work here anymore? He also said, ‘Liewa, you're an advanced worker. Don't you want your reputation and future? And you, Guozi, you're already on the factory security list. Do you really want to go to jail?’
I said, ‘This is between the two of us brothers. It has nothing to do with you. Don't worry about it. Go back now. If someone sees us, it'll be hard to explain, and you'll be implicated.’
But Pingzi insisted on taking us away, and we argued. Liewa couldn't stand it anymore, so he told me about his mother's illness. Pingzi said, ‘Why didn't you tell me about this? No way. I have to work with you two. More people means more strength.’ Liewa
and I got angry. I said, ‘Chen Ping, what does this have to do with you? It's none of your business. Get the hell out of here.’ Pingzi said, ‘We three are brothers, three musketeers. You two can't leave me behind if anything happens.’”
“I had no choice but to yell at him, ‘Are you fucking getting out of here or not? If you don’t, I’ll beat you to death right here, you believe me?’ I never imagined that my angry words would come true so soon…”
At this point, Uncle An broke down in tears. An Xiaomin wiped away her father’s tears, and Uncle Yang also wiped away tears beside him. The house was eerily quiet; everyone was silently watching Uncle An.
“Pingzi wouldn’t leave no matter what. He said, ‘Then just kill me. Otherwise, either I’ll work with you, or you two leave with me right now, and we’ll pretend nothing happened.
’ I knew he was trying to force us to stop. Liewa wavered a bit and said to me, ‘Guozi, why don’t we just give up? Don’t drag Pingzi into this.’ I told him, ‘Ignore him. Let’s do our own thing. If it really doesn’t work out, you go with him. Your mother is my mother. I’ll do it all by myself.
’ Pingzi grabbed me and said, ‘Don’t you think about Huijuan? Don’t you think about Minmin and Xiaodong?’
I got angry and shook him off, saying, ‘Get out.’ I didn’t expect it to be raining and slippery. My movement caused Pingzi to lose his balance and fall backward. I yelled, ‘Pingzi!’ and grabbed him, but it was too late. Pingzi fell from the height.”
“Liewa and I were terrified. We ran downstairs, shouting Pingzi’s name, and reached his side. He was motionless; a steel bar had pierced his temple, and he was bleeding profusely. I immediately threw myself on Pingzi’s body, wailing and pounding on the steel bar with my fists. Liewa knelt beside him, also crying loudly.”
“Just then, we heard the footsteps of a militia patrol coming towards us from afar, shouting, ‘Thieves at the scrap yard! Hurry!’”
“Liewa quickly grabbed me, saying, ‘Pingzi is dead, let’s run!’ I said I wouldn’t run; I would pay for Pingzi’s life. Liewa said, ‘What are you doing? If you go in, what will happen to Huijuan and the two children? If we both go in, we’ll leave behind not only our wives and children, but also Zhou Li and Xingyan, a widow and orphan. Who will take care of them? Pingzi is dead, let’s go!’”
"With no other choice, I gritted my teeth, wiped away Pingzi's still-open eyes, and ran away with Liewa before the patrol arrived... Just like that, we had to let Pingzi take the blame for our crimes as thieves, and that went on for over thirty years!"
Uncle An's eyes welled up with tears again as he continued, "In those years, Liewa and I often stayed alone together, drinking and crying. Once, I couldn't bear the pangs of conscience any longer and decided to turn myself in. I told the police that I was caught stealing by Chen Ping, and that he tried to stop me, but I pushed him off and he died. He wasn't a thief."
"On the way, Liewa stopped me. He absolutely refused to let me go, saying, 'If you insist on going, I'll go with you. We stole the things together, and we killed the man together. I absolutely can't let you take the blame alone.'"
“I told Liewa to get out, but he wouldn’t leave, so I hit him, and we started fighting. Liewa couldn’t beat me, so he lay on the ground and clung tightly to my leg, refusing to let go…”
At this moment, An Xiaomin buried her head in her father’s lap and sobbed uncontrollably, and I also burst into tears. Everyone was weeping, and sobs could be heard from time to time in the house.

94.
“For more than thirty years, Liewa and I, my brother and I, have never had a day of peace in our hearts. We both felt that the one who died back then would have been better off if it had been us.”
An Xiaomin suddenly sat on her father’s lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and buried her face in his shoulder, sobbing.
Uncle An hugged his daughter tightly and cried, “Minmin, please forgive Xingyan? In the end, I killed your Uncle Chen. To use the words from old novels, I have an irreconcilable hatred for him, a father-killer!”
“No, it’s not like that, Dad, I won’t let you say that…” An Xiaomin hugged her father, crying uncontrollably.
Uncle An then said to Yang Yifan, who was wiping away tears, "Yifan, do you understand now? Why was it always you who got beaten up when you and Xingyan had a conflict? Because your father was atoning for his sins to your Uncle Chen! Although you are innocent and your father's actions were wrong, please understand him and forgive him."
Yang Yifan nodded, tears streaming down his face. Aunt Jiang sighed and wiped away her own tears.
At this moment, Aunt Zhuang spoke up, tears streaming down her face. "Weiguo, no wonder you and Lao Yang were so good to Xingyan. I didn't know about this back then. If I had known, I wouldn't have treated Xingyan that way."
An Weiguo said, "At that time, you had your difficulties, but I couldn't tell you the truth then."
As he spoke, he helped his daughter off his lap and said to everyone, "Liewa and I have already discussed it. In a few days, we will go to the police station to turn ourselves in. Although the statute of limitations has expired, we must give your Uncle Chen an explanation. Also, we plan to find an opportunity to make this public to the older folks in the factory. We want everyone to know that your Uncle Chen is not the thief. The real thieves are us."
"Dad!" An Xiaomin looked at her father with tears in her eyes and said, unable to bear it.
Uncle An raised his hand and said, "Don't try to persuade us, we've already made up our minds."
"Dad..." I walked up to Uncle An and squatted down. "Ever since I learned about my ex-wife and her sister, especially after her suicide, I've stopped caring about it. Besides, it was an accident back then. As for what happened afterward, you and Uncle Yang were just unable to overcome the weaknesses of human nature that almost no one can overcome. And you raised me for so many years. Without your care and support back then, I wouldn't have grown up..."
I looked up at him and said, "So, I beg you and Uncle Yang to put aside your thoughts. Really, there's no need. So many years have passed, and my father has been dead for so many years. Why bother?"
Uncle An put his hand on my shoulder. "Child, we're doing this not just for you, nor solely because of your father, but for ourselves. If we don't do this, your Uncle Yang and I won't be able to rest easy."
“Dad, listen to me…”
I was about to continue when Uncle Yang interrupted me, “Xingyan, don’t say anymore. My brother and I have made up our minds, and no one can persuade us otherwise.”
He then said to Uncle An, “Guozi, didn’t you have something else to say?”
“Yes!” Uncle An said, gesturing for me to sit back down.
He looked at An Xiaodong, “Dongzi, do you remember when your sister took a year off after finishing her first year of high school?”
An Xiaodong nodded, “I remember.”
“Do you know what happened to your sister back then?” Uncle An asked again.
An Xiaodong glanced at his sister. "Didn't my sister have depression back then? You and..."
He paused, then looked at Aunt Zhuang. Even now, he couldn't bring himself to say "Mom." "You and... Mom, took my sister to Chengdu for treatment. You two took turns caring for her there. When neither of you were in Wanzhou, you entrusted Meimei and me to Uncle Yang and Aunt Jiang. What happened?"
Uncle An said, "Actually, your sister didn't have depression back then, but because she was pregnant. Your mother and I secretly took her to Dazhou to give birth."
An Xiaodong was shocked, I was shocked, and everyone else was dumbfounded. They all looked at An Xiaomin, then at Uncle An.
"Not long after Xingyan ran away from home, Minmin became pregnant with Xingyan's child. She was not yet sixteen years old at the time, and she couldn't go to the hospital alone to have an abortion. She also couldn't muster the courage to go to a private clinic, so it was left unresolved, and her belly grew bigger day by day."
"It wasn't until school was about to start that Huijuan and I discovered something was wrong and secretly took her to the hospital for surgery. After examination, the doctor found that Minmin's uterine wall was too thin, and once she had an abortion, it would be very difficult for her to get pregnant again for the rest of her life. They told us to consider it carefully."
“We couldn’t bear to watch Minmin never be a mother in her life. With no other choice, we took her to Huijuan’s hometown in Dazhou to give birth, to avoid all scrutiny.”
Uncle An said, then turned to Uncle Yang, “Liewa, you proposed to me that year, and I politely declined because Minmin was still in university. You haven’t forgotten that, have you?” Uncle Yang
nodded. Uncle An continued, “You and Yifan’s mother probably still had some reservations about me back then, thinking I was still waiting for Xingyan to come back and be my son-in-law. But you didn’t know? The reason I did that was because I felt Minmin wasn’t a virgin anymore, and she had already given birth. How could she be worthy of Yifan? I couldn’t let your Yang family down!” As
he spoke, tears streamed down his face once more. An Xiaomin knelt down in front of her father, wiping away his tears, tears streaming down her face as well. She said, "Dad, can you please stop talking?"
Uncle An took his daughter's hand away, held it in his own, and said through tears, "Child, you want me to talk? I can't keep quiet about this. Otherwise, Dongzi will never be able to let go of those past events..."
His words puzzled everyone. Uncle Yang asked, "Guozi, tell me, what happened to the child in Minmin's belly?"
Uncle An continued, “Minmin couldn’t bear to part with the child. After much persuasion from Huijuan and me, she finally agreed to let us give the baby away as soon as it was born. In the days leading up to the baby’s birth, Minmin cried and begged me to give the child to a good family so that the child wouldn’t suffer.”
Recalling the past, An Xiaomin couldn’t help but sob, and Wen Qishan comforted her beside her.
“But now, seeing Minmin’s heartbreak, Huijuan and I couldn’t bear it. That afternoon, Huijuan and I sat on a bench in the hospital, and she said to me, ‘Weiguo, this is all my fault. If I had been nicer to Xingyan, he wouldn’t have run away, and that thing wouldn’t have happened between him and Minmin. Minmin wouldn’t have gotten pregnant so young. Maybe they would both be doing well now. Let me take the blame!’”
Uncle An said, looking at Aunt Zhuang, and everyone else looked at her as well.
"I asked Huijuan, 'How do you plan to take responsibility?' Huijuan was silent for a long time before saying to me, 'Weiguo, let's get a divorce.'"
"Mom!" An Xiaodong blurted out, tears streaming down his face as he looked at his mother.
At that moment, he realized that his mother hadn't run away with another man or abandoned him; rather, she had chosen to shoulder a responsibility that was too heavy for her to bear.
"Huijuan told me her thoughts, and I said, even so, you don't need to divorce me! Just tell others that this child is ours. But Huijuan disagreed. She said, 'You've been married twice and already have two children. Having another one would violate the family planning policy, and you'd be promoted to workshop director. You can't make a mistake at this time, or even get fired.'"
"I said at the time, 'I don't care if I don't become workshop director.' Huijuan said, 'But what about your job? You can't just give it up, can you? I'm only a temporary worker. If you lose your job too, how will we support several children?'"
"I said again, 'We can tell others that we found this child as an abandoned baby.' But Huijuan said, 'We must keep this from Minmin. After all, she's a mother. How can she look at her own child every day and only treat this child as her younger brother or sister? She's so young. She still needs to go to university, work, and get married. We can't let this child hold her back, or even ruin her life.'"
"I still disagreed. I told Huijuan, 'If we do this, you'll suffer too much, you'll be wronged too much.' Huijuan said, 'This is my sin, please let me atone for it to Minmin and Xingyan.' I asked her, 'Have you considered Dongzi? He's only fourteen, he might hate you for the rest of his life.' Huijuan sighed deeply, tears streaming down her face, and said, 'Then let him hate me!'"
Hearing this, An Xiaodong couldn't help but burst into tears, staring at his mother.
"That afternoon, we talked for a long time and cried for a long time. With Huijuan's insistence, I agreed to her plan, so she stayed in her hometown of Dazhou. Because it happened so suddenly, and she soon had a child, rumors circulated in the factory that she had found a man while still married and ran away with him."
Hearing this, everyone looked at Zhuang Youting in disbelief. At this moment, she was already sobbing uncontrollably. I was stunned, my heart filled with disbelief and turmoil.
The girl in front of me, the girl I had always felt sorry for, was actually my own daughter.
Uncle An wiped away his tears and looked at Aunt Zhuang, saying, "Huijuan, you've suffered so much these past twenty years, and you've been wronged too."
Aunt Zhuang buried her head and sobbed, "Haven't you suffered for over twenty years as well? I don't have a formal job, I can only do odd jobs. You not only have to raise three children, but also send money to us, and endure all the gossip. You've been the one who's been the most tired and suffered the most!"
Everyone felt even more sorrowful upon hearing this. Aunt Jiang cried, "Weiguo, Huijuan, you two have torn yourselves apart for over twenty years because of this child. It's truly been so difficult..."
She then said to An Xiaodong, "Dongzi, now you understand, right? Your mother didn't abandon you; she raised your sister's child. Speaking of which, your sister isn't even her biological child... Dongzi! What a great mother you have!"

95.
An Xiaodong walked to his mother, knelt down, and cried uncontrollably, "Mom, Mom, I'm sorry, your son is so sorry..."
"Dongzi, I'm so sorry!" Aunt Zhuang burst into tears, burying her son's head in her arms. Mother and son wept bitterly.
The whole house was filled with sorrow; everyone was crying, including me.
An Xiaomin burst into tears. She turned her gaze from Zhuang Youting's face to her father and murmured, "Dad, didn't you say you gave her away? And it was a boy..."
Uncle An's eyes welled up with tears again. "To prevent you from guessing that Tingting was your daughter, we had to lie and say it was a boy. And Tingting is twenty-four this year, not twenty-three. We changed her age by a year to make it more plausible and avoid arousing suspicion."
Zhuang Youting threw herself at Aunt Zhuang, crying, "Mom, how could this be? Is all of this true?"
Aunt Zhuang said through tears, "Child, I'm not your mother, I'm your maternal grandmother. Your uncle is actually your maternal grandfather, and your sister Xiaomin is your real mother. Your biological father is your brother Xingyan!"
"No, this isn't true, it's not true..." Zhuang Youting burst into tears, burying her face in Aunt Zhuang's arms.
An Xiaomin's tears streamed down her face. She glared at me fiercely and walked out of the house.
I chased after her and grabbed her. "Minmin..."
She turned around and slapped me, her eyes filled with resentment and anger. "Even so, Chen Xingyan, I will never forgive you, never forgive what you did to me and Meimei, never."
Tears streamed down my face, and I couldn't say a word, only shaking my head repeatedly. An Xiaomin glared at me again, turned, and left the villa.
"Xingyan, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and chase after her!" Yang Yifan shouted after me.
I chased after her out of the villa and saw An Xiaomin already getting into her black Mercedes-Benz E300L. I ran to the driver's side door, knocked on the window, and said urgently, "Minmin, Minmin..."
But she didn't look at me, started the car, and drove away. I had no choice but to get into my own car and chase after her. The two cars drove out of the community, one after the other.
As I drove, tears streamed down my face, and memories of the past flashed through my mind.
If time could turn back, I would never have run away from home at eighteen, and I would never have done or said those things half a year ago, hurting the woman who had always loved me deeply and who had given birth to my daughter in her teenage years.
I feel like the biggest bastard in the world, hurting those who have always loved me, especially the woman I love most, for an obsession that shouldn't have existed and a hatred that shouldn't have been born.
Unconsciously, the car turned onto the inner ring expressway. Because of the heavy traffic, I gradually lost sight of my target. After driving a while longer, the car slowed down, and then slowed down further until it stopped. The inner ring expressway was completely blocked, forming a long queue.
I got out of the car and walked forward, searching one car after another, hoping to find Ahn Hyo-min's car, but unexpectedly, I reached the end of the traffic jam.
It turned out there had been a horrific multi-car collision. A sudden thought struck me: I hadn't seen Ahn Hyo-min's car along the way. Could she have been in an accident?
My heart leaped into my throat. I looked around and, sure enough, saw a badly mangled black Mercedes E300L. Panicked, I ran to the driver's side and peered inside. There sat a woman, her head tilted to the side, motionless.
My head spun. I frantically pulled on the wrecked door, shouting, "Minmin, Minmin..."
She didn't budge. Tears welled in my eyes. I screamed around, "Help! Help!"
Then I called out to the truck, "Minmin, what's wrong? Don't scare me, Minmin..."
Just then, a woman's voice came from behind me, "Xingyan..."
I turned around and saw An Xiaomin standing next to a large truck with its cargo bed tilted slightly, looking at me.
I let out a long breath, my legs suddenly felt weak, and I bent over, placing my hands on my knees. After a few breaths, I straightened up and looked at An Xiaomin. She was smiling at me, and I smiled back.
With a creaking sound, my smile froze. On the cargo bed of the truck behind An Xiaomin, a pile of wooden crates was about to fall.
"Minmin, be careful..." I shouted and rushed over, shielding An Xiaomin in my arms.
At the same time, several wooden crates crashed heavily onto my head and back.
I collapsed, and I heard An Xiaomin's startled cry, "Xingyan, Xingyan, what's wrong?"
I opened my eyes and smiled at her, as if I had returned to when I was eighteen, seeing that girl standing outside the Wanzhou long-distance bus station waiting for me. Her longing gaze, so intense, has pierced my heart all these years.
Two streams of tears welled up and flowed down my face, as if traversing countless years. Then, everything went black...
When I woke up, I didn't know what time it was. I opened my eyes but couldn't see anything; everything was still pitch black.
"Brother, you're awake?" I heard Zhuang Youting's voice beside me. She then called out to the side, "Sister, Xingyan brother is awake..."
I heard her call out to the ward, "Xingyan brother is awake..."
"Minmin..." I reached into the darkness and grasped An Xiaomin's hand, hearing her sobbing.
Later, I learned that Uncle An, Uncle Yang, Aunt Zhuang, Aunt Jiang, An Xiaodong, and Wen Qishan had gathered around.
"Xingyan, how are you? Can't you see?" Uncle An asked.
I nodded and said, "Yes, I can't see anything. What happened to me?"
"Child, don't worry. The doctor said that after a brain CT scan, they found that your retina was detached due to a severe blow to the back of your head..."
I was stunned. Uncle An quickly comforted me, "But the doctor said that the blindness is only temporary. You can restore your vision through surgery."
I felt a little relieved and tried to sit up from the hospital bed. Suddenly, I felt a headache. I reached up and touched my head and found that it was wrapped in bandages.
"Lie down, lie down..." Uncle An quickly stopped me.
Uncle Yang also said, "Yes, lie down and talk, don't get up..."
But I still sat up, grabbed Uncle An's hands, called out "Dad," and immediately burst into tears. He patted my shoulder and laughed, "Dad's here, child, Dad's here..."
I buried my face in his chest and cried, "Dad, I was wrong..."
Uncle An hugged me, tears streaming down his face, "Child, you weren't wrong, it was me who was wrong, it was me!"
"No..." I sobbed in Uncle An's arms.
Sighs and weeping came from the side. Uncle Yang placed his warm, heavy hand on my shoulder, and I hugged him tightly again, bursting into tears in the arms of the two elders.
"Xingyan!" Uncle An choked out, "If you're willing, your Uncle Yang and I will always be your fathers."
"Yes, yes..." I nodded, sobbing. At that moment, after more than twenty years, I felt like I had a father again.
After leaving the embrace of the two elders, I murmured, "Minmin, Minmin..."
Then I heard An Xiaodong smile at me, "Where's your Minmin?"
I got off the bed, and Aunt Jiang reached out to help me, "Be careful..."
"It's alright, Aunt Jiang," I said, reaching out to An Xiaomin.
I felt An Xiaomin was facing away from me. I suddenly hugged her from behind, holding her tightly, sobbing uncontrollably, "I was wrong, Minmin, I was really wrong..."
I cried as I knelt down, still holding her tightly, afraid that if I let go she would disappear.
"Forgive me, forgive me for all the mistakes I've made. Since I was eighteen, I've been hurting you, and I've never stopped hurting you. I really deserve to die..."
As I cried these words, An Xiaomin remained silent; I could only hear her sobs.
"But please give me a chance. If I can regain my sight, let me love you properly, love you for the rest of my life, even if God makes me give my life to do it, I'm willing."
I said, sobbing again. An Xiaomin was crying uncontrollably. She pried my hands away, turned around and knelt in front of me, wiping away my tears, then hugged my neck tightly.
I hugged her tightly too, and we wept together. The ward was filled with sobs. Zhuang Youting also knelt behind me, hugging An Xiaomin and me, sobbing bitterly.
“Xingyan…” An Xiaomin choked out, “The doctor said you can regain your sight, even if you… no matter what, Tingting and I will take care of you for the rest of our lives.”
I nodded, sobbing, but in my heart I thought, if I can’t regain my sight, I will die, I will never be a burden to An Xiaomin.
And so, under the tearful gazes of everyone, the three of us embraced, freely expressing the sorrow and joy of our reunion…

(To be continued, An Xiaomei’s story is not yet over)
