[Urban] Wild Younger Brother's Domineering Love (Complete) - 6

Chapter 5 An Unbreakable Bond

A few warm-colored clouds drifted across the distant sky. Some orange, some red, some dark, some light.

The cicadas, having chirped tirelessly all day, had now fallen silent, though a few scattered "zhi-liao, zhi-liao" sounds could still be heard occasionally, perhaps unwilling to leave the stage. But it was futile; staying put and howling wouldn't change anything, it was only a matter of time.

The large banyan tree outside the iron fence seemed even denser than yesterday, and a cool breeze could be felt beneath it. But summer was almost over. Soon, it would be leaf-falling season again. Even so, the sun showed no sign of taking a break, diligently hanging high every day.

Looking up, the lush green leaves turned dark at dusk, yet reflected an unprecedented coolness in my eyes. After a sweltering day, passing by this place, I never wanted to leave. In comparison, the house, bare in the setting sun, held no appeal whatsoever, except for the people living inside.

Ye Fan smiled and sat down on a bench behind the banyan tree, a spot rarely seen by others. This was where she and Ye Qing had moved in. They had only recently moved to Zhanzhou, and she was still in high school, adhering to the principle of "work-life balance," believing that "life-life balance" meant breathing fresh air. Sitting under the tree to read and study—thinking about it, it really did have a touch of poetic charm. She wasn't the type to love studying; most of the time she sat under the banyan tree, she would daydream. Rather than saying she liked reading under the tree, it would be more accurate to say she simply liked sitting under it.

After a day in the sun, although mostly in the shade, it was still warm, and she felt the warmth when she sat down, but she was too lazy to move. After a while, she got used to it.

Her work wasn't tiring, but at the end of the day, she always felt exhausted. Even her mind became irritable. Relaxing like this, she couldn't help but feel the urge to close her eyes. Ah, she was about to doze off... Looking around, there was no one suspicious, and it was so close to home, his personal safety was assured... He'd rest for a few minutes before continuing... With this constant self-reassurance, Ye Fan successfully hypnotized himself.

The night wind swept away the heat from the ground, carrying it to some unknown place. In a chill, the woman half-reclined on the bench under the banyan tree curled up uneasily, trying to hold onto warmth, but the narrow bench didn't allow for such movement, so she predictably fell to the ground.

"Ouch!" Ye Fan exclaimed softly, waking from his sleep, unable to immediately explain his current situation. It was pitch black all around, with only a streetlamp in the distance. He groggily turned his head and looked around, finally figuring out his predicament after a while.

It was already completely dark, and the temperature had dropped slightly. He took out his phone to check the time, but after pressing the buttons for a while, nothing happened; the phone had long since run out of battery and shut down automatically. There wasn't a single passerby around; this street was usually deserted.

"Gurgle—" Her stomach growled inconsiderately. She'd gone straight home after work, skipped dinner, and fallen asleep right next to her door. Come to think of it, this twenty-five-year-old was more prone to drowsiness than even a teenager. The

area in front of her house was dimly lit. Then she remembered her parents weren't home. She'd heard her aunt was sick and hospitalized, so her mother had gone to visit her in the countryside, and her father was away on a business trip. She sighed softly at the deserted house. She could probably sleep in the wilderness all night without anyone noticing.

Suddenly, she felt utterly bored. How tedious. She didn't want to go home, but she had nowhere else to go. She'd better put aside those useless thoughts.

With a soft chuckle, she went inside, too lazy to turn on the light, tossed her handbag onto the sofa, and, relying on memory, walked to the kitchen, switched on the light, and checked the refrigerator for anything she could eat. Being hungry was no pleasant experience. The refrigerator was completely empty, except for a few eggs. I'd forgotten to buy groceries when I got home. No wonder I felt like I'd forgotten to do something.

I decided to cook some noodles—simple and easy.

Without further ado, I washed the pot, turned on the gas, added water… all in one go. While the water was boiling, I went to the living room and turned on the TV. It finally felt a bit more lively. I switched to my favorite cartoon and started watching with great interest. "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf"—it's always on TV, over and over again. I don't know why I love it so much. The green grass, the cute little sheep, and the unlucky Big Big Wolf—even the feisty Red Wolf seemed adorable.

After Big Big Wolf uttered his classic line for the n+1th time—"You wretched Pleasant Goat, I'll be back!"—I burst out laughing, completely losing my composure. Calculating the time, she thought it was about right, so she went to the kitchen. The water was boiling, and she was about to cook some noodles when a voice came from behind her: "Make me a bowl too." It wasn't a request, but rather a blatant command.

Ye Fan turned around abruptly, and behind her stood a tall figure—none other than Ye Qing!

"When did you get here? You scared me to death!" Ye Fan patted her chest.

Ye Qing curled one corner of his mouth into a mischievous smile, not answering her question, and said directly, "Hurry up and cook the noodles, the water's about to boil dry."

"Okay," Ye Fan obediently turned around, "You

can add the ingredients yourself." Ye Qing's tall figure stood beside Ye Fan, and she suddenly felt a little breathless, her heart pounding rapidly, but she couldn't deny that she felt happy inside. Seeing his clumsy movements, she finally couldn't help but laugh: "Never mind, President Ye, let me do this. Your hands aren't suited for these 'rough jobs,' hehe."

Ye Qing gave a muffled "Oh," but remained standing there. Ye Fan looked up and glared at him, and he shifted uncomfortably, letting her deftly and quickly add ingredients and serve noodles in front of him.

The two acted as if nothing had happened. Only the usually cold and ruthless Ye Qing had become easygoing, while the seemingly ordinary but actually rebellious Ye Fan seemed more flamboyant.

They sat facing each other at the dining table. Under the soft light, Ye Qing's thin face appeared alluring, and his captivating features made Ye Fan want to pinch his cheeks. To stop herself, Ye Fan lowered her head and began to eat haphazardly. She was truly hungry. Ye Qing, like him, hadn't eaten dinner. He had driven from the company at six o'clock, and since no one was home, he had gone to his study to handle business, resulting in several hours passing by, and the person he was waiting for hadn't even appeared.

"Just you alone?" Hearing him say this, Ye Fan slowly swallowed her noodles—she wasn't so hungry anymore—and then looked up. He stared at him for a while, then shook his head and said, "Dad's away on a business trip, and Mom went back to the countryside to visit my aunt." Even though Ye Qing didn't live at home, he shouldn't be so indifferent to family matters; it didn't seem like his family at all. "A grown man is no longer at home"? Thinking of this, he felt a pang of sadness.

After a late-night snack, the two sat side-by-side on the sofa. Ye Fan had slept soundly before returning, and Ye Qing had also taken a nap while waiting for him. Having just eaten, they naturally weren't sleepy.

"Back so late, went on a date?" His tone was certain, simply stating a fact. He had recently heard about Ye Fan's blind date.

His expression was perfectly normal, relaxed like a younger brother concerned about his older sister's whereabouts. Ye Fan lowered his eyes, not intending to explain that he had fallen asleep outside, and simply hummed in response. Then she asked, "When did you get back? Is something wrong?"

Ye Qing, with his hands behind his head, leaned lazily against the sofa, answering casually, "Haven't been home in a long time, just came to visit." Visit? Visit whom? His parents, or... her? Ye Fan privately speculated about his ambiguous answer, laughing at her own wishful thinking and overestimation of her abilities.

"Oh," she tried to avoid sensitive topics, such as "It's a wonder you still remember to come home," "Are you even part of this family? You don't care about anything," "Come home more often," etc., choosing less important topics, "You've lost weight, you need to take care of yourself, health is the foundation of everything." She thought she had skipped the sensitive topics. Actually, this was what she truly wanted to say, from the first moment she saw him tonight.

He smiled, a somewhat childlike smile that didn't seem out of place on his mature and handsome face, but rather added to his approachability. He turned to stare at her, then suddenly his smile vanished: "Shouldn't women in love be more beautiful? How come you still look like a little girl, even your flesh has thinned out—" Before he could finish speaking, Ye Fan pounced on him and grabbed his neck. She couldn't stand being called a "little girl" more than anything in her life! That was all from when she was a child!

"Hey, if you say that again, I'll choke you until you can't make a sound! Hmph, don't think you're any better than me, you're the same, not only are you not basking in the glow of spring, but you're also 'lifeless'!" He even made a disdainful expression when he said "lifeless". Ye Qing reached out and grabbed her shoulder, hesitated for a moment, and then pushed her away, saying, "How could that be? The female colleagues at the company are all praising this as 'having personality'." Those were the things the women had been secretly gossiping about behind his back when he was inspecting the company, and at the time he had just given a cold smile and hadn't taken them to heart.

Ye Fan chuckled, bursting into laughter. He hadn't expected Ye Qing to have such a narcissistic side; he'd actually spoken with a serious tone, a hint of doubt on his face. Ye Qing sat quietly beside her, watching her laugh so hard she almost rolled on the floor. This woman who called herself his sister was actually quite oblivious, always behaving like a child.

He gave a soft smile, like indulging a spoiled child. Wasn't she just like that? And yet, he was completely under her thumb. A glint of light flickered deep in his eyes, even his smile became mysterious, but the person laughing with heartache was completely oblivious.

She was actually quite content. Their relationship was unbreakable. Any woman could be dumped by him, but she wouldn't. In a sense, love was elusive and fickle, but kinship was different; blood was thicker than water, and no one could sever it. She would be his sister for life, watching over him and accompanying him for life. Thinking this way, though somewhat naive, she began to feel grateful for their relationship. If she weren't his sister, they might not even have met.
