Cold Fragrance Valley [Complete] - 4

Chapter Four: The Golden Thread Vanishes.

That night, Lan Tianpeng was troubled and couldn't sleep. He quietly went to the back garden. Looking at the bright moonlight, Lan Tianpeng thought of the feud between his father and aunt and uncle, the unknown fate of his cousin Xiao Qionghua, and his gentle junior sister Ding Mengmei. He couldn't help but sigh.

"Brother Tianpeng, why are you sighing? Can you tell me?" Under the moonlight, the young girl Gao Lianying walked out.

Lan Tianpeng was startled and said, "So it's Miss Gao. You're still awake?"

Gao Lianying smiled and said, "You're awake too, aren't you?"

Lan Tianpeng said, "Yes, I can't sleep. How about you, Miss Gao?"

Gao Lianying lowered her head and said, "Everyone calls you Brother Peng, but you always call me 'Miss,' 'Miss'..."

Lan Tianpeng exclaimed, "Ah!" and said, "Then may I call you Sister Lian?"

Gao Lianying whispered, "Yes." After a pause, she continued, "Brother Peng, is something on your mind?"

Lan Tianpeng sighed and said, "My father's revenge is not yet complete. How can I not have something on my mind?"

Gao Lianying walked up to him and comforted him, "Brother Peng, don't worry about this all day long. My father's revenge..." "Avenging is necessary, but saving lives is more important. You can't let this make you unhappy all the time. Even in the afterlife, Old Hero Lan wouldn't be happy to see you like this. Just keep it in your heart. Life is short; you should think more about happy things and look further ahead. Brother Peng, it's not just about revenge; for a martial artist, it's even more important to achieve something truly remarkable. Hatred can make people lose their way, rob them of the joy of life and their goals. Besides, it's better to resolve conflicts than to perpetuate them; endless cycles of revenge only lead to more trouble. Brother Peng, you can't stay so depressed."

Lan Tianpeng lowered his head and pondered for a long time. Suddenly, he understood. The young girl Gao Lianying's words made a lot of sense. He had to avenge his father and teacher, but that wasn't everything. He also needed to make a name for himself. Life is so short; one shouldn't be so short-sighted. People should have more goals and pursue more enjoyment. Once he understood, Lan Tianpeng felt a heavy burden lifted from his heart, and he felt much lighter. He looked up gratefully at the young girl, Gao Lianying, and said, "Lianying, you truly woke me up with your words. Thank you."

Gao Lianying said, "It's good that Brother Peng has figured it out." She hesitated for a moment and then said, "Brother Peng, I want to ask you...about something private..."

Lan Tianpeng asked curiously, "What is it that you're so hesitant about? Just ask."

Gao Lianying lowered her head and whispered, "Brother Peng, do you have someone you like?"

Lan Tianpeng's heart skipped a beat. He naturally understood the meaning behind Gao Lianying's question. Clearly, the young girl... Having already fallen for him, she hesitated and said, "I have a cousin and a junior sister..."

Gao Lianying visibly trembled and whispered, "Brother Peng, they must be very beautiful. I'm happy for you. It's getting late, Brother Peng, you should rest early. I should go back too..."

Her voice choked with emotion. Seeing the tears still clinging to her eyelashes, looking so pitiful, Lan Tianpeng couldn't bear it. He suddenly embraced Gao Lianying and asked softly, "Lianying, do you like me very much?" Even Lan Tianpeng didn't know how to say these words. He only felt that Gao Lianying was so pitiful, and the words just slipped out.

Gao Lianying leaned against Lan Tianpeng's warm chest, blinked, and froze, her body seeming to heat up, her heart melting. She could only softly call out, "Brother Peng."

Lan Tianpeng looked into Gao Lianying's clear eyes, which held joy, bewilderment, shyness, and surprise, all the sorrow from before gone. They were like two crystals containing the night sky, pure and lively. A hundred emotions welled up in his heart, and he thought, "Lianying is such a lovely little girl."

Lan Tianpeng gently raised his right hand and touched the corner of Gao Lianying's eye. Gao Lianying's heart fluttered, unsure whether to feel shy or happy, and she unconsciously closed her eyes. Lan Tianpeng lovingly touched Gao Lianying's curved eyelashes with his fingers, wiping away the tears. Gao Lianying's eyelids trembled slightly, feeling Lan Tianpeng's tenderness. Her heart felt as if a thousand feathers were tickling it, and her cherry lips parted slightly, letting out a soft "Ah."

In this situation, even the most hardened heart couldn't remain unmoved. Lan Tianpeng's eyes suddenly filled with a dazed look. He cupped Gao Lianying's head with his right hand and, without thinking, kissed her. "Mmm!" Gao Lianying was startled, opening her eyes. She struggled slightly, then stopped resisting. Her eyes, as if drunk, slowly closed again, lost in the intense love.

She didn't know how long the kiss lasted before their lips finally parted. Gao Lianying's face was flushed, unsure what to say. She stared blankly at Lan Tianpeng, a half-smile playing on her lips, her heart filled with tender affection. Lan Tianpeng whispered, "Lianmei, I'm sorry."

Gao Lianying was too embarrassed to reply, and after a long while, she shyly said, "Brother Peng, you're so bad."

Lan Tianpeng blushed. He couldn't control himself when he saw Gao Lianying, but he hadn't asked her how she felt. He felt ashamed and released her, saying with a blush, "Lianmei, slap me a few times."

Gao Lianying blushed and whispered, "No, I'm happy."

Lan Tianpeng hugged Gao Lianying again and said, "Lianmei, do you really like me?"

Gao Lianying exclaimed in surprise, too embarrassed to look up at him, only feeling shy . She stammered, "Yes, I fell in love with you the moment I saw you, Big Brother... but I don't know if the two older sisters will accept me..."

Lan Tianpeng kissed her and said, "Don't worry about that. Your cousin is very virtuous, and your junior sister is very gentle. You will definitely like them. But, Lian-mei, I'm sorry to trouble you. I'm so sorry I can't give you complete love..."

Gao Lian-ying returned his kiss, blushing, and said, "I don't care. I'm willing to be your maid or your concubine. I know that many more girls will fall in love with you in the future. As long as you have me in your heart, I'm satisfied."

"Lian-mei, you're so good." Lan Tianpeng was excited and kissed Gao Lian-ying's cherry lips again. The two lingered tenderly for a while, and then Lan Tianpeng told Gao Lian-ying that he was leaving the next day to go to the rooftop. The young girl Gao Lian-ying didn't say anything, but told him that she would wait for him and hoped that he would return soon. The two lingered tenderly for a while longer before Gao Lian-ying left.

After the young girl Gao Lianying left, Lan Tianpeng gazed at the moonlight and muttered to himself, "Heaven truly favors me, Lan Tianpeng. I must not let them down."

"Haha, a young hero paired with a stunning beauty, Brother Lan, truly a cause for celebration!" Ouyang Zi emerged from the darkness.

Lan Tianpeng was startled: "So it's Brother Ouyang! When did you arrive, Brother Ouyang?"

Ouyang Zi seemed rather displeased, saying, "I originally intended to chat with Brother Lan, but instead I witnessed a sensual performance. It was truly captivating."

Lan Tianpeng's handsome face flushed red: "Brother Ouyang..."

Ouyang Zi waved her hand: "Brother Lan, no need for further words. Brother Lan has won the favor of a beauty; I, a lonely brother, must go back to sleep..." Before Lan Tianpeng could say anything, Ouyang Zi had vanished. Suddenly, a slight rustling sound came from the artificial hill. Lan Tianpeng shouted, "Who is it?"

"Brother Peng, it's me." It was the alluring "Double-Blade Black Rose," Wu Qianzhu.

"So it's Miss Wu..." Lan Tianpeng was somewhat surprised.

“Brother Peng, won’t you just call me ‘sister’?” Wu Qianzhu, the “Double-Blade Black Rose,” said with a hint of resentment. Lan

Tianpeng hesitated, “It’s our first meeting, isn’t it inappropriate to address each other like that?”

Wu Qianzhu looked at Lan Tianpeng and said, “I know you look down on this bad woman… but please believe me, I am still pure and innocent… If you don’t believe me, I’ll prove it to you…”

Lan Tianpeng hurriedly said, “Sister Qian, I believe you, please don’t say that, I can’t accept that.”

Wu Qianzhu raised her head and said, “You really believe me? My reputation isn’t very good…”

Lan Tianpeng said, “I believe you, sister. You may appear a little frivolous, but deep down you are still pure and innocent.”

"Double-Blade Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu said gratefully, "Brother Peng, thank you. Just for those words, it would be worth dying for you."

Lan Tianpeng was immediately embarrassed. To ease the atmosphere, he had no choice but to change the subject, "When did you arrive, Sister?"

"Double-Blade Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu said, "I arrived before you. I was just about to greet you when Sister Lianying arrived." "Ah!" Upon hearing that she had arrived early, Lan Tianpeng knew that everything he had said and done had been seen by her, including his intimate scene with Gao Lianying, which was obviously no exception. He immediately blushed and felt extremely embarrassed.

"Double-Knife Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu chuckled, "Don't be shy, not only did I see it, but Miss Ouyang saw it too."

Lan Tianpeng was startled again, "What? You also think Ouyang Zi is a woman disguised as a man?"

"Double-Knife Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu smiled mysteriously again, "Ouyang Zi is not only disguised as a man, but she's also taken a liking to you. When she was toasting at the banquet, she warned me not to get close to you."

Lan Tianpeng was so surprised he couldn't close his mouth. "Double-Knife Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu persisted, "You were being intimate with Gao Lianying here, do you think Ouyang Zi wouldn't be jealous? It seems she's quite jealous; you're probably in for a rough time later."

Lan Tianpeng said awkwardly, "Sister, you're joking."

"Double-Blade Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu said seriously, "Little brother, I can't be ashamed anymore. Let me tell you the truth, no girl can resist your temptation. Not even I, not even Ouyang Zi, and there will be more in the future..."

Lan Tianpeng said embarrassedly, "Sister already knows my situation, so you should..."

"Double-Blade Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu interrupted him, "Since there can be two, there can be three; since there can be three, there can be more. Sister Gao Lianying sees this very clearly and is right. Little brother, you can't escape it."

Lan Tianpeng lowered his head and thought for a long time before saying, "Sister, then what do you think I should do? I really can't bear to delay more girls. I can't bear it."

"Double-Blade Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu said, "You're wrong. If a girl can't be with the one she loves, it will be her lifelong pain, and her life will be very tragic. Can you bear to do that?"

Lan Tianpeng held his head. "Double-Blade Black Rose" Wu Qianzhu said, "Brother, you don't need to worry. The most important thing is that you yourself must like her. Because if you don't like her, even if you force yourself to accept her, she won't be happy. I know I'm not worthy of you, and I don't have any delusions. I only hope to see you often, and that will make me very happy. I've been traveling the world for so many years and have met many young men who weren't outstanding, but I've never been moved by any of them. I never expected that I would fall so deeply in love with you. That's why I said these words without any shame, because I'm afraid I won't even have the chance to say them again."

“Sister…” Lan Tianpeng couldn’t understand why these girls were so infatuated. He tightly embraced “Double-Blade Black Rose” Wu Qianzhu, pressing her voluptuous body against his own, and without hesitation, kissed her lips. “Double-Blade Black Rose” Wu Qianzhu slumped in Lan Tianpeng’s arms, her mind blank, wishing time could stand still…

After a long, long time, “Double-Blade Black Rose” Wu Qianzhu broke free from Lan Tianpeng’s embrace, panting heavily. It took her a while to calm down, and she looked at Lan Tianpeng, saying, “Little brother, whether you pity me or are just being polite, I’m already very satisfied with your kiss. Don’t worry, I won’t bother you, and I certainly won’t cause you any trouble…”

Lan Tianpeng said, “Sister, don’t worry, I won’t forget you. We’ll see in the future.”

“Mm.” “Double-Blade Black Rose” Wu Qianzhu nodded, and the two left the garden together.

The next afternoon, some people who hadn't left the night before gathered in the hall. Lan Tianpeng paid special attention to Ouyang Zi, but still couldn't find anything special about her. He continued, "Young Master Lan is indeed a son of a military family, his martial arts are extraordinary, truly admirable..."

Lan Tianpeng smiled and said, "You flatter me too much."

But suddenly, a low, sinister shout came from "Liao Chen": "Your palm techniques, internal energy, and hidden weapons are all top-notch. I'd like to test your swordsmanship to see if it's also first-rate."

Lan Tianpeng turned around at the sound and saw "Liao Chen" standing before the table, his expression grim, his face masked with murderous intent, his triangular eyes flashing with venomous cold light. His right hand gripped the hilt of a golden sword, lightly pressing the spring. Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng knew he still held a grudge about yesterday's events, and he felt a surge of anxiety. He had been studying martial arts on Mount Fanjing for over nine months, practicing internal energy in the morning and palm techniques in the evening, but had never practiced with weapons.

Lan Tianpeng knew perfectly well that "Liao Chen" was the eldest disciple of "Yu Xu Shangren," the head of the Kongtong Sect, and the future successor to the sect leader. His swordsmanship was naturally exceptional; otherwise, the evil Taoist wouldn't have dared to challenge him with weapons after seeing his internal strength, palm techniques, and hidden weapons. The thunderous applause suddenly stopped, and the air seemed to freeze. "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" noticed that "Liao Chen's" expression was off and was about to get up to stop him, but was held down by the "Twin Elders" on either side.

With a clear, resonant clang, a flash of cold light, and the golden silk sword on "Liao Chen's" back was drawn from its sheath. At the same time, he looked at the standing Lan Tianpeng with resentment, smiled coldly, and said mockingly, "Young Master Lan, why don't you borrow a knife from the heroes present?"

Although Lan Tianpeng was secretly anxious, he remained standing in place, his expression calm, a disdainful sneer hanging on the corners of his lips. Based on his victories over the "Flying Three Geese," "Little Overlord," and the single-handed duel with "Double Palms Shake the Universe," he had gained considerable confidence in the still-unknown palm technique taught to him by the middle-aged man in yellow. The middle-aged man in yellow had taught him this technique so he could seek revenge against the "Silver-Clad Swordsman." If his palm technique could defeat the "Silver-Clad Swordsman," how could it not defeat evil? However, he was unaware that the "Silver-Clad Swordsman" did not even use a sword against those without weapons.

Seeing Liao Chen's mocking tone as he asked to borrow a knife, Lan Tianpeng sneered and said, "This young master of the valley never carries weapons when he travels the world..."

Liao Chen's eyes lit up, and he seized the opportunity to ask cunningly, "So, you're going to use your bare hands to fight my sword?"

At this point, Lan Tianpeng had no choice but to nod and say in a deep voice, "You're asking unnecessary questions."

The beggar Ma Wu was still unsure of Lan Tianpeng's abilities. He had observed Lan Tianpeng's internal strength and hidden weapons, both of which were already top-notch, so he also believed that Lan Tianpeng's weapon must be astonishing. Seeing Lan Tianpeng use his palms to fight against "Liao Chen," who had decades of experience in swordsmanship, Lan Tianpeng was startled and suddenly stood up. Before he could say anything, Ouyang Zi, sitting at the table, coldly smiled and mocked, "You old Taoist are truly shameless! At your age, you actually want to use a longsword against an unarmed young man. What are your intentions?"

Upon hearing this, "Liao Chen" immediately glared at Ouyang Zi and angrily said, "What's wrong with both sides testing each other's skills?"

Ouyang Zi immediately stood up and said, "Since that's the case, this young master will face you." As he spoke, he left his chair and walked directly towards Lan Tianpeng and "Liao Chen." Most of the assembled heroes hadn't heard Ouyang Zi's bold warning to "Little Overlord," and were indeed surprised by Ouyang Zi's sudden intervention.

Lan Tianpeng didn't want anyone to take the blame for him, so he hurriedly went to meet Ouyang Zi, reached out and stopped him, saying, "Brother Ouyang, please take your seat, I..." Before he could finish speaking, Ouyang Zi had already sat down and said in a deep voice, "This old Taoist is treacherous. If we don't embarrass him on the spot, he won't know that there are heavens beyond heavens."

Liao Chen did indeed intend to use the performance as an opportunity to kill Lan Tianpeng with a single sword strike, eliminating a scourge for the Kongtong Sect. Even if it violated martial arts norms and offended the "Golden Dove and Silver Staff," she wouldn't dare to oppose the powerful Kongtong Sect. Later, seeing Ouyang Zi step forward, he resolved to kill Ouyang Zi first, then find a way to eliminate Lan Tianpeng, as Ouyang Zi was also a thorn in his side. When Ouyang Zi openly accused him of having treacherous intentions, he was instantly enraged and shouted, "You junior, how dare you insult an elder in public! Just as you said, this abbot will let you know that there are always people more powerful than you, and the world is vast beyond your reach!"

Ouyang Zi smiled coldly and said, "Facts speak louder than words. You'll know in a moment." With the word "Liao Chen" uttered, she swiftly withdrew her sword, a flash of cold light, and her longsword was gone—light, graceful, and incredibly fast.

The crowd was stunned, and unconsciously shouted "Bravo!" Seeing that Ouyang Zi had already sheathed her sword, Lan Tianpeng could only glance at her with concern. Liao Chen, witnessing Ouyang Zi's sword-slinging technique, was startled. He realized that he couldn't be careless in his attack and had to use a decisive move first to intimidate his opponent. With this thought, he smiled coldly, staring at Ouyang Zi, and arrogantly said, "Since your sword is already drawn, why not offer your move?"

Ouyang Zi slightly raised her silver sword, smiled nonchalantly, and said, "Unless the opponent is a first-rate swordsman, I, young master, will not offer my move first."

Liao Chen, upon hearing this, was furious. His triangular eyes widened, and he shouted sharply, "What an arrogant junior!" With that, he lunged forward, unleashing the "Three Powers of Earth" move. His sword, divided into five large dragons—upper, lower, left, center, and right—struck Ouyang Zi's shoulders, face, and abdomen. In one strike, he had completely enveloped Ouyang Zi.

Lan Tianpeng was shocked, and many among the crowd gasped softly. However, Ouyang Zi, standing tall with his sword drawn, displayed astonishingly agile movements. He shifted left and right, leaning up and down, dodging attacks that were precisely where Liao Chen was about to strike. Liao Chen unleashed his ultimate move, a five-move sword strike, attempting to defeat Ouyang Zi in one move. Unexpectedly, all five moves missed their mark. Startled, he shouted again, "This junior is indeed skilled!"

With that shout, he didn't retract his sword, leaping forward and executing a swift "Downstream Boating" maneuver. His sword flashed horizontally, striking out with lightning speed, making it impossible to discern how the evil Taoist had made his move. But, at the same moment Liao Chen lunged forward with his sword, Ouyang Zi spun to the left to dodge—Liao Chen, a seasoned veteran with honed swordsmanship, simultaneously unleashed his own sword, executing a lightning-fast "Wind Sweeping Fallen Leaves" maneuver.

Upon seeing this, the assembled heroes gasped in surprise, leaping to their feet with a loud bang. Lan Tianpeng, startled, also darted away from his seat. However, in a flash, a figure spun like lightning amidst a dazzling silver streak. Ouyang Zi had already completed a full rotation, yet he remained where he stood, precisely where Liao Chen's longsword had been used. Liao Chen, seeing that his three attacks had all missed, was truly astonished, but he couldn't help but raise his sword and demand sharply, "Why did you dodge?"

Ouyang Zi smiled coldly and said, "Young Master always lets those who are just beginning their swordsmanship a few moves first."

Upon hearing this, Liao Chen's expression turned frenzied, like a mad tiger. Before Ouyang Zi finished speaking, he let out a fierce howl, leaped forward, and slashed down with his sword. Ouyang Zi stood motionless, his first-rate evil sword fully drawn. With a slight shift in his body, his silver sword flashed out like lightning. A silver rainbow appeared, followed by a resounding clang of metal against metal, the tip of the sword already touching Liao Chen's blade.

Liao Chen, seemingly possessing immense potential, suddenly lowered his stance, staggering forward. At the same moment, a flash of lightning, a cold flame, and Ouyang Zi's silver sword, from behind his head, arced down to his neck. Liao Chen was utterly shocked, letting out a sharp howl as he retreated rapidly. As he retreated, a clump of gray hair and beard flew onto the blood-red carpet.

Only then did the heroes in the hall instinctively gasp in surprise, for the series of movements was too fast, as fast as lightning. Liao Chen leaped to the outer hall. Because the bottom of his Taoist robe was tightly tied with a velvet rope and a golden tube inserted horizontally, his hair was not disheveled, so he was unaware that the robe had been cut off. However, he noticed that a large section of his gray beard had been removed by the sword. Therefore, he glared angrily at Ouyang Zi, his pale old face sternly saying, "Young Ouyang, if you have the guts, come to my Lüzu Temple." As soon as

he uttered the word "come," he suddenly turned around and leaped out of the hall—but Ouyang Zi angrily said, "Your Lüzu Temple is not a mountain of knives or a sea of fire, nor is it the Hall of Yama. I will go with you to see it." As soon as he uttered these words, his figure shot out of the hall like an arrow released from a bow.

Lan Tianpeng was completely enraged by Ouyang Zi's sword fight with "Liao Chen," which stemmed entirely from him. Now that "Liao Chen" was challenging Ouyang Zi, he couldn't stand idly by. So, he shouted, "Brother Ouyang, please stop!" With that shout, he leaped towards the hall entrance—but just as he stood up, two deep shouts rang out: "You little brat, you think you can leave without leaving the 'Fire Dragon Pearl'?"

With those shouts, two broad, black and white figures leaped across the table, pouncing towards Lan Tianpeng in mid-air. The beggar, seeing this, knew that the "Twin Elders" had already asked the "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" whether Lan Tianpeng had given them the "Fire Dragon Pearl." Since his plan had failed, he also shouted, "You twin old bastards, Master Ma will deal with you!"

With that shout, he leaped into the air, swinging his dog-beating stick directly at the "Twin Elders"! Just as the beggar swung his stick, the elder of the black-clad elders reached out and grabbed Lan Tianpeng, who had leaped to the hall entrance. Lan Tianpeng suddenly heard a whoosh behind him, deducing that the "twin old men" were already behind him. He could only secretly gather his inner strength, quickly descending and turning around, his right palm thrusting out fiercely—the eldest black-clad old man was already prepared, his right palm also pressing down with the momentum, his inner energy surging out, clearly intending to kill Lan Tianpeng. With

a loud "boom," the black-clad old man was actually shaken and staggered, while Lan Tianpeng, who was determined to catch up with Ouyang Zi, took the opportunity to fly backward, landing directly in the courtyard below. The black-clad old man was not about to let up, and with a "hey," he pounced after him—at this moment, the beggar was already fighting with the second white-clad old man. Seeing the "Twin Elders" dare to steal her birthday gifts at her banquet, the already annoyed Gao Lianying flew into a rage, shouting, "You two old fools, how dare you cause trouble in my own home!" With that

, she snatched the Golden Dove and Silver Staff from a servant, leaped into the air, and pounced on the second elder, the White Elder. Gao Lianying, fearing Lan Tianpeng was no match, had already let out a sharp cry, flicked her wrist, and leaped out of the hall—the White Elder, seeing his former lover's anger and attack, panicked and fled. The beggar, concerned for Lan Tianpeng, had no will to fight and also leaped out of the hall. The Golden Dove and Silver Staff, no longer pushing her luck, stopped chasing the White Elder and followed closely behind the beggar, knowing that the Black Elder was the most ruthless and vicious of the Twin Elders.

By this time, the two steps of the hall were already teeming with heroes who had rushed out to watch the spectacle. The Beggar Hero and "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" glanced down into the courtyard. There, Lan Tianpeng and the eldest Black Elder stood facing each other, their gazes fixed, clearly gathering their strength in secret, preparing for a life-or-death battle of palm strikes. Gao Lianying, who had followed, stood anxiously a few feet away, her sword held horizontally, her eyes fixed on the eldest Black Elder's slightly raised, large, fleshy hands.

The second White Elder, who had escaped the hall, had initially intended to urge his elder brother to flee, but seeing the situation in the courtyard, he also stood not far behind the eldest Black Elder, secretly monitoring the scene. The Beggar Hero, seeing the situation in the courtyard, immediately panicked. Just as he was about to speak, "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" pounced into the courtyard below. Just as "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" lunged down the steps, the eldest black-clad man roared, "Take my palm strike first!"

With the word "palm strike," his left palm shot out, unleashing a powerful gust of wind towards Lan Tianpeng. Seeing the eldest black-clad man channeling his energy into both palms while using his left, Lan Tianpeng deduced a trap. A thought struck him, and he too met the attack with his left palm. A loud bang resounded, a gust of wind swept through, and both Lan Tianpeng and the eldest black-clad man's shoulders swayed simultaneously.

"Golden Dove and Silver Staff," who had leaped down the steps, intended to stand between Lan Tianpeng and the eldest black-clad man before they could exchange blows, forcing them to dissipate their energy. However, the eldest black-clad man, seeing through her intentions, suddenly struck out, forcing her to abruptly stop, determined to wait for Lan Tianpeng's attack before lunging forward. But then, Lan Tianpeng, having already thrust out his left palm, roared, "Take my palm strike too!"

As soon as the word "palm" was uttered, Lan Tianpeng swiftly stepped forward, his right palm, brimming with power, striking out with lightning speed—while the leader of the Black Elders, who had initially used his left palm to lure the enemy, simultaneously thrust out his right palm at the same moment Lan Tianpeng struck out—both palms were unleashed with full power and intent, so the force of the blow was easily imaginable.

A loud bang resounded, a powerful gust of wind accompanied by a whistling sound, dust swirling in all directions. The Black Elder was forced back three steps by Lan Tianpeng's palm strike. However, Lan Tianpeng himself also lost his footing, his upper body swaying repeatedly! The crowd of heroes, startled, let out a soft "Ah!" To everyone's surprise, just as the heroes were shocked, the black-clad old man retreated, and Lan Tianpeng's upper body was still swaying, the white-clad second brother standing behind the black-clad old man suddenly shouted, "You take one of my palms too—"

With a shout, he took two quick steps forward, squatted down, and swung his arms around the opponent's chest, unleashing a series of palm strikes with the force of a storm—a terrifying palm force swept towards Lan Tianpeng's chest. Gao Lianying screamed in fright, the beggar shouted in alarm, the heroes roared angrily, and "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" was stunned. However, seemingly on guard, Lan Tianpeng took the opportunity to retreat two steps, and just as the opponent's powerful palm wind reached his chest, he shouted deafeningly, "Young master, what harm is there in taking another palm strike?" With a shout, the power of his two palms was gathered, and with a flick of his wrists, he struck out with lightning speed.

This was truly a rare and breathtaking exchange of blows in the martial arts world. A thunderous roar erupted, accompanied by a deafening gust of wind. The robes of the assembled heroes billowed, and the gauze lanterns in the hall flickered. The chivalrous beggar Ma Wu, "Golden Dove and Silver Staff," and Gao Lianying, all standing in the courtyard, were forced back two steps by the wind. With a series of thuds, the tall figures of the two old men, one black and one white, staggered backward simultaneously, while Lan Tianpeng, who had hastily unleashed his palm strike, remained standing.

With a cry, the second old man clutched his chest and coughed up blood. The eldest old man, the black one, slumped down and reached out to support his father. The assembled heroes were all moved and stunned. No one could believe it was real. As the owner of the "Golden Dove and Silver Staff," although she felt the "Twin Elders" deserved their fate, they had shared a close relationship with her in the past. Both emotionally and rationally, they should let it go. Therefore, she raised her staff and leaped over. Gao Lianying and the beggar rushed to Lan Tianpeng, asking in unison with concern, "How are you feeling? Quickly circulate your qi to check for internal injuries."

Lan Tianpeng did as they were told, circulating his qi smoothly, and immediately shook his head. Looking across, the old man, under the care of the old man, was already sitting cross-legged on the ground. The old man was regulating his breathing, while the old man's face was filled with resentment. Seeing this, the beggar knew he couldn't linger any longer, but he had to give some instructions before leaving. Then, facing the hundreds of heroes filling the steps, he bowed and solemnly said in a loud voice, "Young Master Lan is new to the martial world. Unless absolutely necessary, he would never harm anyone. All of you heroes have witnessed what just happened, so there is no need for me to repeat myself." He paused, then turned to look at the "Golden Dove and Silver Staff" and continued, "Today, on the auspicious occasion of Lady Liu's birthday, Young Master Lan has long admired her and has come to pay his respects in person to offer birthday wishes, presenting a pair of 'Dragon and Phoenix Pearls' as a birthday gift." "These pearls, seemingly ordinary, are actually priceless. They were carved by the 'divine craftsmanship' of the Five Fingers of Qiong Island..."

Before she could finish speaking, "Golden Dove and Silver Staff," perhaps fearing someone might covet her "Dragon and Phoenix Pearls," quickly interjected with a smile, "This matter should be handled by this old woman. I hope you won't hold it against me, Ma Laowu. I think Young Master Lan won't mind either."

The beggar Ma Wu naturally understood "Golden Dove and Silver Staff's" meaning and quickly cupped his hands, smiling, "Since that's the case, I, this old beggar, won't say anything more. I'll take my leave now. Until we meet again."

"Golden Dove and Silver Staff" naturally couldn't persuade her to stay any longer, and could only apologize with a smile, "Since you two have other matters to attend to, this old woman won't try to keep you any longer. Lianying, please see them out for me." Gao Lianying was more than happy to hear this and immediately replied respectfully, "Yes."

The beggar hero Ma Wu and Lan Tianpeng bowed to the hundreds of heroes on the hall steps to bid farewell, and then headed towards the gate amidst shouts of "See you later!" from the crowd. By this time, the gate was already crowded with carriages, horses, and attendants, all looking on with surprise and a hint of tension, likely aware that something had happened inside after hearing the applause. With Gao Lianying seeing them off, the beggar hero and Lan Tianpeng hurriedly left the gate. Turning around, they saw that the red horse was gone, concluding that "Little Tyrant" had ridden off again, so they didn't bother to ask further.

Lan Tianpeng felt that the day's events had ruined his mood. While the evil Daoist "Liao Chen" should certainly take responsibility, he and Ouyang Zi were also implicated. Therefore, he turned to Gao Lianying, cupped his hands in apology, and said, "My actions just now have spoiled Senior Liu's birthday celebration..."

Before he could finish speaking, Gao Lianying smiled humbly and said, "Brother Peng, please don't mind. The whole incident was caused by 'Liao Chen,' and my mother will not be angry with you. As for the 'Twin Elders,' who openly obstructed Young Master Lan and Senior Ma, I must express my deepest apologies on behalf of my mother."

Lan Tianpeng and the beggar Ma Wu smiled and said at the same time, "We dare not, we dare not. Miss Gao is too modest."

Gao Lianying looked reluctant to part and said, "Brother Peng, I hope you can come again in the future."

Lan Tianpeng smiled and said, "I will."

The beggar Ma Wu took the opportunity to laugh and said, "Alright, alright, Miss Gao, goodbye." Lan Tianpeng hurriedly clasped his hands in greeting, smiled, and said "Farewell," before turning and walking with the beggar into the protective forest.

Lan Tianpeng followed closely behind the beggar. As soon as they entered the forest, Ma Wu asked, "Boy, are you going to Tiantai?"

Lan Tianpeng immediately asked in surprise, "Uncle Ma Wu, you...you mean going to Tiantai...going to Tiantai?"

The beggar Ma Wu laughed heartily, somewhat mysteriously saying, "Young man, when I was young, I was quite the ladies' man, you could say I've been there..."

Lan Tianpeng, realizing the beggar had misunderstood, anxiously asked, "Nephew, you mean 'going to Tiantai'?"

The beggar laughed again, saying, "Boy, don't play dumb with me, you really don't know what it means."

Lan Tianpeng shook his head seriously, saying, "Nephew truly doesn't know."

The beggar smiled, raising his voice slightly, "Going to Tiantai means you have to go to Tiantai County to find Ouyang Zi." "

To everyone's surprise, Lan Tianpeng frowned and muttered to himself, 'Going to Tiantai means I have to go to Tiantai County...'

The beggar, seeing Lan Tianpeng's expression, realized something was wrong and asked in confusion, 'Boy, what's wrong with you?'

Lan Tianpeng composed himself and immediately smiled apologetically, 'I forgot to tell you, sir, in the town...'

The beggar, sensing something amiss, immediately said without hesitation, 'It's alright, you can tell me now.'

Lan Tianpeng said solemnly, 'My master, in the instant he fell into the ravine, sternly told me three words...'

The beggar immediately interjected, 'It was "Going to Tiantai," wasn't it?' Lan Tianpeng nodded solemnly and replied in a low voice, 'Yes.'

The beggar seemed to understand something and said, 'According to my old beggar's judgment, it probably means you have to go to Tiantai to find someone, and that person is the one who knows your master's background best.'"

Lan Tianpeng nodded slowly, then hesitated and said, "That might be the meaning..." He paused, then quickly turned to the beggar and asked, "Uncle Ma, have you heard of the 'Vajra Subduing Demon Treasure Record'?" The

beggar frowned in confusion, asking, "Why are you asking about this? That happened more than ten years ago." Lan Tianpeng, having already ascertained the beggar Ma Wu's character and his friendship with his father, then recounted how "Flying Fork Three Geese" and the old Taoist "Pine Cloud" had gone to Mount Fanjing to search for the "Vajra Subduing Demon Treasure Record."

Upon hearing this, the beggar Ma Wu let out a surprised "Hmm," and after a long pause, he hesitated before saying, "So, the martial world is about to be plunged into another bloody battle?"

Lan Tianpeng interjected, "Uncle, do you really have no recollection of our late master?"

The beggar shook his head and said, "No, I think I might know your master, but after I went to Five Finger Mountain, he lost his legs and lived a life of anger and resentment, which changed his appearance, so I can't remember him right now. However, anyone who can become enemies with the 'Silver-Clad Swordsman' is definitely not an ordinary person." He paused, then suddenly seemed to realize something and asked, "Silly boy, did you find out anything about that Ouyang Zi?"

Lan Tianpeng immediately frowned and said, "I've been trying to find an opportunity to ask him, but he keeps asking me."

Upon hearing this, the beggar shrugged humorously and said, "You originally wanted to find out his background, but unexpectedly, he found out everything about you instead." Lan Tianpeng's eyes lit up, and he seemed to understand something. He said, "

Fifth Uncle, I remember now. In his conversation, he seemed to know my whereabouts since I left home. He once asked my late master's name in a probing tone, but unfortunately, Miss Gao was there at that time..."

The beggar Ma Wu nodded in surprise and said, "So, I guessed correctly. Ouyang Zi might have a close connection with your master. The person your master asked you to go to the rooftop to find might be Ouyang Zi's family..." Upon hearing this,

Lan Tianpeng immediately said excitedly, "Fifth Uncle, I'm so stupid. He's been trying to get in touch with me. I should have guessed. But I never understood what 'going to the rooftop' meant, so I made that connection."

The beggar smiled and said, "Aren't you going to pursue Ouyang Zi?"

Lan Tianpeng nodded and said, "Yes, I think she..."

The beggar urged, "We'll talk about it later. Let's go now." As they spoke, they unleashed their lightness skills and sped off in the direction they had come from.

Lan Tianpeng naturally followed, also using his lightness skills. Only then did he realize they had already left the dark, dense forest protecting Gao Family Mansion, though the lights in the depths still illuminated the sky. Once they activated their lightness skills, their movements were as swift as lightning. Although Lan Tianpeng didn't know the location of "Liaochen's" Lüzu Temple, he was certain that the beggar-chicken Uncle Ma Wu would know its location.

Lan Tianpeng sped along, keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity, hoping to encounter Ouyang Zi and "Liaochen" on the way, thus avoiding another trip to Lüzu Temple. Disappointingly, they found nothing suspicious even on the riverbank. The beggar-chicken Uncle Ma Wu stopped to investigate first. He noticed the river surface was slightly rippling, and the reeds on both banks swayed in the wind. The fishing boats they had seen during the day were nowhere to be seen. Therefore, the two headed west along the riverbank, hoping to find a small boat or a narrower section of the river to cross.

Although Lan Tianpeng had no experience crossing the river on planks, he wanted to try, so he suggested, "Uncle Ma, why don't we learn from the Evil Path's method and cross?"

The beggar smiled and said, "Silly boy, that's foolish talk. Not that I'm criticizing you, but while your lightness skill and internal strength might be better than mine, you're far behind in experience." Lan Tianpeng quickly agreed twice, but he was still somewhat unconvinced by the title "silly boy."

The beggar Ma Wu continued, "The two planks that the Evil Path's 'Liao Chen' used were specially made, flat at the top and curved at the bottom, with an arc shape in the front, and they could only be used downstream from west to east. It's not impossible to use just any two planks to cross upstream, but I haven't seen it done before. If someone could do that, they would be a sword immortal."

Lan Tianpeng understood immediately and was truly impressed, but he asked in confusion, "The Evil Path is at most half an hour ahead of us from the village. How did he cross?" "

The beggar Ma Wuyi laughed and said, 'Isn't Fifth Uncle looking for it?' Before he finished speaking, Lan Tianpeng suddenly raised his hand and looked. Sure enough, several dozen feet upstream, there was a sandbar in the middle of the river. The water on both sides was no more than eleven or twelve feet wide. Since there was no moon in the sky, it was not clear even by starlight. After seeing the situation, the beggar Ma Wuyi couldn't help but laugh and said, 'Old Daoist Liaochen crossed the river here.'" "

As they spoke, the two had already reached each other. The beggar deliberately walked uphill for another ten or so feet, picked up a few planks and pieces of bark from the bank, and handed two to Lan Tianpeng. The beggar, Ma Wu, seemed to be demonstrating, saying, 'Silly boy, watch carefully, this old beggar goes first...'

As soon as he finished speaking, he soared into the air, flying straight towards the sandbar—just before he reached the sandbar, before his body began to fall, he flicked his wrist and threw out a piece of bark. As the bark suddenly floated up, the beggar's body plummeted down, his toes touching the bark, and he soared into the air again, landing directly on the sandbar. The beggar landed on the sandbar and immediately turned to look at Lan Tianpeng, raising his voice slightly, 'Young man, leap as far as you can, preferably close to the sandbar, the closer the better.'"

Lan Tianpeng nodded in understanding, then leaped into the air, heading straight for the sandbar! His leap almost reached the edge of the sandbar, prompting the beggar to exclaim, "Good!" Lan Tianpeng imitated the beggar's demonstration, flicking his wrist to release a plank, and with a light touch of his toes, he was on the sandbar. The river was narrower on the other side of the sandbar, allowing both of them to cross without the plank. They then leaped ashore, unleashing their lightness skills, and sped northwestward. In a short while, a vast, dark forest appeared ahead, with only a faint light emanating from its depths, indicating the presence of dwellings .

Upon seeing the light, the beggar chuckled softly and said, "The evil sect is already prepared. Judging from the situation, Ouyang Zi hasn't arrived yet."

Lan Tianpeng's heart skipped a beat, and he asked with concern, "Uncle Ma, you said that light is the evil sect's Lü Zu Temple?"

The beggar Ma Wu nodded and said, "That's it."

Lan Tianpeng asked, puzzled, "How do you know Young Hero Ouyang hasn't arrived yet?"

The beggar smiled and said, "If he had arrived, it wouldn't be so quiet. During the battle, there would be lanterns and torches, shouts and cheers. If Ouyang Zi has left, Lü Zu Temple will be checking for damage and treating the wounded."

Lan Tianpeng said, perplexed, "Strange! He followed the evil sect out." As they spoke, they arrived at the edge of the forest. The beggar Ma Wu immediately waved a "caution" gesture and leaped into the forest first.

Because it was a dark night, the forest was even more gloomy. Although the two were not afraid, they dared not be careless. There were no hidden stakes in the forest, and the two went straight to the temple wall. The beggar first gestured for Lan Tianpeng to wait, then leaped into the air. Reaching the top of the wall, he lightly tapped the tile with his green dog-beating stick, ascending directly towards a towering ancient pine tree against the night sky. Lan Tianpeng, witnessing the beggar's agile and swift movements, couldn't help but secretly admire him.

The beggar landed on the pine, then vanished into its branches in a flash. Despite carrying a green dog-beating stick, his speed and agility remained unaffected, and he made no sound. Lan Tianpeng was even more impressed; this required not only superb lightness skill but also profound internal strength. Before he could finish his thought, the beggar, hidden in the pine branches, raised a hand and waved repeatedly at him.

Lan Tianpeng immediately understood. He could have flown directly to the pine, but fearing the disturbance of the branches and alerting the evil Taoist "Liao Chen" within the temple, he nimbly flew to the temple wall before leaping into the branches. Upon entering the pine-covered area, the beggar immediately pointed discreetly into the temple. Lan Tianpeng followed his finger and looked down, seeing three main halls, side halls on the left and right, and rows of long rooms. All the lights in the temple were extinguished, except for a faint light remaining on a five-story pavilion at the rear. Clearly, that faint light was the same one seen from outside the forest; perhaps the top floor of that pavilion was where the evil Taoist "Liaochen" resided.

Lan Tianpeng and the beggar were hiding on the right side of the Lüzu Temple, directly opposite the gable wall of the second main hall. Therefore, they could not see the area in front of the temple or inside. However, judging from the magnificent architecture, the towering pavilion, the flying eaves and sparse tiles, and the golden beast-shaped roof ornaments, the Lüzu Temple was indeed a rare and magnificent Taoist temple. While they were observing, they suddenly heard a rapid rustling of clothes.

Lan Tianpeng's heart skipped a beat, and he looked at the beggar, whispering, "Fifth Uncle, it might be Young Hero Ouyang."

The beggar stared intently in the direction from which the rustling of clothes came, offering no reply but merely nodding. As Lan Tianpeng turned, a tall figure, swift as a hawk, leaped onto the ridge of a small pavilion in front of the temple—then, in a flash, landed inside the wall and rushed towards the main hall. Lan Tianpeng looked closely and saw that the newcomer was dressed in a black, fitted outfit, with a black veil and a black shawl, which accentuated his tall and imposing stature.

Seeing this, it was clearly not Ouyang Zi. He looked at the beggar and whispered, "Uncle Ma, who is this?"

The beggar Ma Wu shook his head and whispered, "I can't tell yet, but I'm somewhat familiar with his build."

Upon hearing this, Lan Tianpeng eagerly whispered, "Uncle, who do you think it is? Is it a fellow traveler of Young Hero Ouyang?" As

soon as he finished speaking, a shout suddenly rang out from the side halls and the main hall. Dozens of Taoists, wielding sticks and swords, surged out like swarms, rushing towards the person dressed in a colorful, tight-fitting cloak. Upon seeing this, the person with the black mask flew straight up to the first hall. Just then, the lights on the rear pavilion suddenly went out, and at the same time, a loud shout came: "Young Ouyang, why are you so late? This Taoist has been waiting for you for a long time!"

With the shout, a tall figure leaped out from the pavilion and rushed towards the front hall. Lan Tianpeng didn't need to look closely; just from the loud shout, he knew it was the evil Taoist "Liao Chen." At the same time, based on "Liao Chen's" shout, he also knew that Ouyang Zi hadn't arrived yet. At this moment, Lan Tianpeng was not only puzzled as to why Ouyang Zi hadn't come, but also anxious to know who the black-clad masked man flying up to the roof of the first hall was. In the blink of an eye, "Liao Chen" had already flown to the first hall. The evil Taoist was stunned upon seeing the black-clad masked man. The black-clad masked man, seeing the evil Taoist arrive, didn't answer, but swung his huge palms directly at the evil Taoist.

The evil Taoist, seeing this, was immediately enraged, shouting, "What kind of despicable rat dares to spy on my Lüzu Temple?" As he spoke, without even withdrawing his sword, he lunged forward, meeting the attack with his palms. The black-clad masked man, having only exchanged blows with the evil Taoist, feigned an opening, leaped out of the circle, and used his lightness skill to head straight for the outside of the temple, clearly intending to lure the enemy in.

Upon seeing this, the evil Taoist "Liao Chen" grew even more enraged, roaring, "You think you can escape without leaving your life?"

With that shout, he unleashed his lightness skill, chasing after the masked man in black who had already reached the outside of the temple. At this moment, nearly a hundred old Taoist priests in front of the main hall shouted again, and twenty or thirty torches were lit, illuminating the courtyard in front of the main hall with a clear light. As soon as the masked man in black and the evil Taoist appeared outside, the beggar chivalrously whispered, "Let's go too."

So, he and Lan Tianpeng leaped straight down to the outside of the temple, using their lightness skills to race in the direction the evil Taoist had gone. The two soared into the pine forest and saw the masked man in black leaping across branches, heading straight south, with the evil Taoist "Liao Chen" chasing closely behind, about ten feet behind. As Lan Tianpeng sped along, he whispered, "Fifth Uncle, I think that person ahead looks like Guo, the head of the 'Dragon and Phoenix Society,' 'Double Palms Shake the Universe'?"

The beggar smiled and said, "You've got good eyesight, lad. It's him." Lan

Tianpeng immediately asked, puzzled, "That's strange. Isn't he still at the Gao family mansion?"

The beggar asked seriously, "How do you know he didn't sneak out? He's alive."

Lan Tianpeng was speechless, but still concerned about Ouyang Zi's absence, he asked, "Uncle Ma, do you think Young Hero Ouyang will come?"

The beggar replied without hesitation, "If I'm not mistaken, the 'Double Palms Shake the Universe' earlier was probably leading the evil Taoist to see Ouyang Zi." As they spoke, the two reached the edge of the pine forest. In the instant they leaped down, they saw the evil Taoist and the masked man in black still heading south, one after the other.

Lan Tianpeng was still thinking about their previous conversation, so as soon as his feet touched the ground, he continued to ask with concern, "Uncle, do you mean Ouyang Zi is a member of the 'Dragon and Phoenix Society'?" "

The beggar Ma Wu, seemingly unsure, said, 'At the birthday banquet of "Golden Dove and Silver Staff," I noticed that "Double Palms Shake the Universe" paid close attention to Ouyang Zi's gaze and actions...'

Upon hearing this, Lan Tianpeng couldn't help but laugh, while saying dismissively, 'Actually, weren't all the heroes in the hall paying close attention to Ouyang Zi?'

The beggar said solemnly, 'But in "Double Palms Shake the Universe's" gaze, there seemed to be another meaning—a report or a request for instructions. Perhaps we'll find out soon enough.'

Lan Tianpeng was startled and blurted out, '" "Double Palms Shake the Universe" is the head of the "Dragon and Phoenix Society," second only to their female leader. Does Fifth Uncle mean that Ouyang Zi is the female leader of the "Dragon and Phoenix Society"?'

Before the beggar could say anything, he suddenly pointed due south and whispered, 'We've arrived at our territory. Look quickly.'"

Lan Tianpeng turned his head and saw that the riverbank, several dozen feet away, was already covered with reeds. The evil Taoist "Liao Chen" was looking around. The masked man in black had obviously disappeared upon arriving here. As Lan Tianpeng was observing, the chivalrous beggar Ma Wu whispered, "We've reached our territory. We'd better proceed stealthily to avoid being discovered by 'Liao Chen.' Otherwise, the evil Taoist might think we led him here." Lan

Tianpeng snorted and said, "So what if he discovers me? I was just about to ask him about 'Black Hand Sanlang.'" The

chivalrous beggar said as he walked along a row of small trees, "Now is not the time. Have you ever heard the heroes of the martial world say that there are countless self-proclaimed top masters in the martial arts world today who all want to uncover the true face of the female leader of the 'Dragon and Phoenix Society,' but none of them have succeeded?"

Upon hearing this, Lan Tianpeng's curiosity was piqued, and he couldn't help but interject, "Fifth Uncle means..." The

beggar immediately explained, "Since none of us are her match, we have no right to remove her golden cloak or force her to reveal her name."

Lan Tianpeng was even more puzzled and said, bewildered, "I don't understand your meaning, sir." As he spoke, the evil Taoist "Liao Chen" had already withdrawn his long sword from his back, keeping an eye on the reeds below the embankment while striding south along the riverbank.

The beggar glanced at the evil Taoist and explained, "The black-clad man we just saw has a figure and techniques somewhat similar to Guo, the head of the 'Palm Shakes the Universe' gang. If it really is him, the person who lured the evil Taoist here to fight must be his superior, obviously the leader of their 'Dragon and Phoenix Society.'"

Upon hearing this, Lan Tianpeng immediately interjected, "Fifth Uncle means to take this opportunity to reveal the true face of that female leader." "

The beggar Ma Wu immediately said calmly, 'You might be able to hold your own against her for a few moves, but I, this old beggar, admit I don't have that ability!'

Lan Tianpeng frowned, still confused, and said, 'Fifth Uncle, I'm really stupid. After all this talk, I still don't understand what you mean.'

Upon hearing this, the beggar became somewhat angry. Suddenly, he stood behind a low tree and whispered angrily, 'You still don't understand what I mean? Let me just tell you, I suspect that Ouyang Zi is the leader of the Dragon-Phoenix Society!'

Lan Tianpeng was taken aback and said, 'Fifth Uncle, are you assuming that Ouyang Zi is the one who led the evil path here? Then we can easily find out the true identity of the leader of the Dragon-Phoenix Society?'

The beggar immediately nodded and said, 'Yes, isn't that much easier than going to the Dragon-Phoenix Society's headquarters on Mount Kuocang to fight him?'" "

Upon hearing this, Lan Tianpeng said with deep feeling, 'If my master hadn't been killed, I might have been able to fight Ouyang Zi on the sword.'

The beggar asked in surprise, 'What? You can't defeat Ouyang Zi with weapons?'

Lan Tianpeng suddenly shook his head and said, 'Although I learned my father's "Golden Backed Saber Technique" from a young age, I know my own limitations. Even with a suitable thick-backed saber, I'm not confident I can last ten moves against Ouyang Zi.'

The beggar shuddered, his expression changing drastically. He exclaimed in shock, 'When that evil Taoist 'Liao Chen' challenged you, if Ouyang Zi hadn't intervened, the consequences would have been unimaginable, wouldn't they?'"

Lan Tianpeng said with deep feeling, "So, thinking about it now, I believe Ouyang Zi may have already figured out my background..." Before he could finish speaking, a clear and delicate voice suddenly came from the other side of the riverbank: "Daoist Liaochen, why are you so late?

I, the leader, have been waiting here for a long time." Upon hearing this, the beggar urged Lan Tianpeng, "Let's hurry up, it would be best to go around to the upper reaches. How about it? You really fell for my trick, didn't you?" "With that word 'ba,' he sped forward! Lan Tianpeng followed closely behind the beggar, pondering the sharp rebuke he'd heard, unable to discern whether it came from Ouyang Zi.

As they advanced, Liao Chen, standing with his sword across the embankment, laughed and said, 'Who do we have here? It's the female leader of the Dragon and Phoenix Society! If you have something to say, why don't you come to the temple to talk to me face to face? Lead me to the riverbank...'

Before he finished speaking, the clear voice said, 'I'm afraid I might accidentally start a killing spree. Killing a few old Taoists is a small matter, but polluting this sacred Buddhist site is a big deal. After much thought, it's more convenient to talk by the river!'

As they spoke, Lan Tianpeng and the beggar reached the embankment upstream. Lan Tianpeng seized the opportunity to ask, 'Fifth Uncle, does that woman's voice sound like Ouyang Zi's?'

The beggar frowned and pondered for a long time, still unsure, and said, 'Let's sneak up to the embankment and talk.' " Having said that

, they nimbly made their way up the embankment. The two crept up, using the reeds for cover, and peered down. Their eyes lit up simultaneously—on the wide riverbed, stood a figure completely shrouded in a golden cloak from head to toe. Upon closer inspection, the cloak shimmered, its material indistinguishable as silk or satin. Judging from the wind, the cloak's material was both somewhat stiff and remarkably soft.

From the woman's head to her feet, except for her eye sockets, there was no visible opening for her arms. Although her eyes could be seen through her eye sockets… But he couldn't see any divine light in him; perhaps he had already reached the realm of inner radiance. While observing him, he heard "Liao Chen" force a smile and say, "Speak your mind."

The woman in the golden cloak smiled coldly and said, "Master Liao Chen, why don't you dare come down? Do you know your martial arts are inferior and fear spilling blood under my sword?"

"Liao Chen," indeed somewhat fearful, was provoked by the woman in the golden cloak and immediately flew into a rage, shouting, "Others may fear you, but I, 'Liao Chen,' have not taken you seriously. The reason I don't want to come down is because why must we walk to your face to talk?"

As he spoke, he strode down the riverbank! Upon seeing this, the beggar immediately turned to Lan Tianpeng and whispered, "Let's move closer." "So, the two pressed on, holding their breath, until they stopped at a patch of tall, overgrown weeds, where they could see more clearly.

The woman in the golden cloak smiled coldly and said, 'Whether you are afraid or disregard me, I have come tonight to warn you.'

Liao Chen, sword in hand, was taken aback and blurted out in confusion, 'Warning?'

The woman in the golden cloak nodded and said, 'That's right. I, the leader, warn you, and I want you to tell your master, 'Master Yu Xu,' that if your Kongtong Sect ever again gets involved in our search for the 'Vajra Subduing Demon Treasure Record,' don't blame us for openly declaring ourselves enemies of your sect.'

Liao Chen smiled coldly and said, 'The 'Vajra Subduing Demon Treasure Record' is a Buddhist scripture; what does it have to do with your sect?'" The woman in the golden cloak immediately said in a deep voice, "

The 'Vajra Subduing Demon Treasure Record' belonged to my late father, so naturally it has a close relationship with our organization..."

"Liao Chen" seized the opportunity to sow discord, saying, "I just received a report that the one who truly wants to seize the 'Vajra Subduing Demon Treasure Record' is a young man wearing a silver-robed gentleman's robe..."

Before "Liao Chen" could finish speaking, the woman in the golden cloak interrupted, "Our organization has already received a report from the Hunan branch leader, 'Flying Fork Three Goose,' and I have already dispatched a large number of experts to track down that silver-robed youth."

The beggar, hidden behind the grass, immediately tugged at Lan Tianpeng's sleeve. Then he heard "Liao Chen" coldly laugh and say, "I already know where that silver-robed youth is; why would your organization need to send experts to search for him?" Upon hearing this, the beggar glanced at Lan Tianpeng, who secretly bit his lip, saying nothing.

The woman in the golden cloak asked nonchalantly, "Where is that silver-clad youth now?"

"Liao Chen" smiled grimly and said, "I've already invited him to the Lüzu Temple; he'll be there shortly."

The woman in the golden cloak giggled and said, "I saw him by the river just now, but I stopped him. I'm afraid he won't be coming tonight."

Upon hearing this, "Liao Chen" was furious and shouted, "You've ruined my grand plan!"

The woman in the golden cloak asked calmly, "What plan?"

"Liao Chen" shouted angrily, "The plan to kill him!" The woman in the golden cloak slammed her hand down and burst into laughter. The beggar and Lan Tianpeng were startled and almost simultaneously whispered, "Her laughter sounds somewhat like Ouyang Zi's."

Before they finished speaking, the woman in the golden cloak's laughter subsided, and she said contemptuously, "With your meager abilities, 'Liao Chen,' you think you can kill him?" "This leader still needs to hold his own for at least three moves..." Before he could finish speaking, "Liao Chen" suddenly became ferocious, shouting, "I don't believe it!"

With that shout, he leaped forward, his long sword flashing as he thrust forward—the beggar and Lan Tianpeng were startled and instinctively stood up at the same time. In this sudden turn of events, at such close range, and with the woman in the golden cloak's hands still inside her cloak, if she didn't leap into the river, she would perish under "Liao Chen's" sword. Just as Lan Tianpeng and the beggar were about to act, they suddenly saw the woman in the golden cloak shout, "Try it if you don't believe me!"

As she spoke, the golden cloak suddenly doubled in size, and in a flash, a colorful light flashed and a sharp sound rang out. "Liao Chen" let out a startled howl and leaped back to the embankment! The beggar and Lan Tianpeng stared intently, only to see the woman in the golden cloak's eyes flash like lightning. In the blink of an eye, an arm clad in gold had extended beyond the cloak, and in her hand, a longsword gleamed with a cold light.

Looking at Liao Chen, his expression was terrified, his face pale. His Taoist robe had been ripped open by the woman's sword in the brief exchange. Liao Chen was now utterly terrified, his eyes fixed on the woman in the golden cloak. He held his sword horizontally, retreating step by step towards the riverbank behind him. Lan Tianpeng watched with secret admiration, and unconsciously whispered, "Uncle Ma, do you think the woman in the golden cloak's swordsmanship is even better than Ouyang Zi's?"

The beggar Ma Wu immediately replied seriously in a low voice, "Young man, in my old opinion, this woman in the golden cloak is Ouyang Zi. Ouyang Zi is the female leader of the 'Dragon and Phoenix Society.' We'll follow her later; I'm determined to uncover this mystery today."

Lan Tianpeng couldn't see any resemblance between the woman in the golden cloak and Ouyang Zi, so he hesitated and said, "What if it really is 'Golden Thread Without Shadow'..." Before he could finish speaking, the beggar quietly interrupted him, saying, "It's alright, just listen to me later..." As

he spoke, Liao Chen had already retreated to the embankment, coldly smiling and saying, "Golden Thread Without Shadow, you're quite something. I'll rush back to the Kongtong Mountain headquarters tonight to inform my master. To tell you the truth, our feud is now set in stone."

The woman in the golden cloak coldly smiled and said, "Very well. If your master doesn't care about your sect's long-standing legacy, then let's become enemies. Now, to use a Jianghu saying, we'll see." As soon as she finished speaking, a series of shouts suddenly came from the far north: "Senior Uncle, Senior Uncle!"

Liao Chen was startled by the sound and hurriedly turned around, shouting, "I'm here." Lan Tianpeng and the beggar looked in the direction of the sound and saw a gray-clad Taoist with a sword on his back running towards them from several dozen feet away.

Upon seeing "Liao Chen," the Taoist priest immediately panicked and shouted, "Master Uncle, hurry back! That young man in silver robes is here!" Lan Tianpeng was startled and stared at the beggar in surprise.

Liao Chen, who was standing over there, turned to look at the woman in the golden cloak and said in a deep voice, "Alright, I have matters to attend to at the temple. I apologize for not being able to accompany you any longer. This humble Taoist must be leaving." He then turned and, without waiting for the woman in the golden cloak to reply, flew towards the approaching Taoist. The woman in the golden cloak didn't answer either. She suddenly spun around, her cloak billowing out and flipping over to cover her front, obscuring her arms and long sword. Lan Tianpeng, seeing this, immediately realized what was happening and blurted out, "So there's a double-layered cloak in front!" As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized his mistake and tried to stop himself, but it was too late.

Sure enough, the woman in the golden cloak turned at the sound of his voice, her gaze blazing like thunder. Seeing that his presence had been revealed, Lan Tianpeng had no choice but to step out of the tall grass! Upon seeing Lan Tianpeng, the woman in the golden cloak froze, her gaze fixed on him without blinking. The beggar, still hidden in the tall grass, immediately lowered his voice and said, "Foolish boy, she might be Ouyang Zi. Don't let her go. I'll go to Lüzu Temple to check, and then I'll go to the rooftop to find you. I think the silver-clad youth at Lüzu Temple is probably a diversionary tactic by Ouyang Zi."

Before he finished speaking, the woman in the golden cloak below the riverbank suddenly turned around without a word, unleashed her lightness skill, and sped off along the riverbank like an arrow towards the northeast. Upon seeing this, the beggar immediately urged loudly, "Foolish boy, hurry up and chase after her! Here's a bag of silver for your travel expenses." As he spoke, he hurled the small bag over. Lan Tianpeng, as if waking from a dream, grabbed the bag and shouted, "Miss Ouyang, wait! Your brother Lan Tianpeng is coming!" With that shout, he crouched down and, as fast as a wisp of smoke, chased after the woman in the golden cloak.

Because the female leader of the "Dragon and Phoenix Society" was known as "Golden Thread Without Shadow," her lightness skill was unimaginable. Coupled with Lan Tianpeng's late start, there was no sign of her closing in. Lan Tianpeng was naturally anxious, but he also had concerns. What if the other party wasn't Ouyang Zi? If he caught up, she would not only be highly skilled in martial arts but also possess a weapon. Before he could finish his thought, the woman in the golden cloak had already reached the sandbar they had just crossed! Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng became even more anxious. If the woman in the golden cloak crossed the river, he would likely lose track of her immediately. Just as he was conflicted and anxious, the woman in the golden cloak indeed leaped into the air, soaring towards the sandbar in the middle of the river—Lan Tianpeng, in his haste, shouted, "If you are Miss Ouyang, please stop!"

With that shout, he reached the sandbar's edge and also leaped towards it. However, the woman in the golden cloak did not stop because of Lan Tianpeng's shout and continued to leap towards the opposite bank. Upon seeing this, Lan Tianpeng was filled with anger. He mustered his strength and leaped towards the opposite bank. He knew the river was wider on this side, but his stubbornness prevailed; he was willing to fall into the water to catch up with the woman in the golden cloak.

He was determined to get to the bottom of this, regardless of the woman's martial arts skills or whether she was actually Ouyang Zi. However, to his surprise, his leap carried him eight feet over the river, leaving him astonished at his sudden increase in power! His astonishment caused him to glance back at the river, noticing that the river downstream from the sandbar was narrower than the upstream section he and the beggar had crossed. Looking back, he was stunned to see the woman in the golden cloak still standing on the bank. But as he turned to look at her, she vanished in a flash, heading southeast! Lan Tianpeng was furious upon seeing this. It turned out the woman in the golden cloak had been deliberately toying with him. He immediately crouched down, unleashing his full lightness skill, and chased after her again.

The two of them, now using their lightness skills, moved like lightning, one after the other, forming two streaks of gold and silver, cutting across the plains faster than shooting stars. However, Lan Tianpeng couldn't see his own form, but he could see the woman in the golden cloak ahead. Because they were moving at the same speed, the golden streaks were invisible. Only the swirling night sky and the rushing fields and trees behind them highlighted their astonishing speed. Lan Tianpeng noticed that the woman in the golden cloak would look back every few miles, clearly checking if he was still in hot pursuit.

Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng became suspicious. He thought: If the woman in the golden cloak ahead is indeed Ouyang Zi, what is her intention in carrying me across the plains at such a rapid pace? Besides, he and Ouyang Zi had talked and drunk together in the garden, and he couldn't see anything about Ouyang Zi that resembled a young girl. If there was a childlike quality in Ouyang Zi's voice, there were many people with high-pitched, clear voices; were all those people women? Lan Tianpeng thought for a long time, but still couldn't figure out the purpose of "Golden Thread Without Shadow" leading him at breakneck speed. Although he repeatedly tried to assess the situation, his speed didn't decrease at all, and after two hours, he had already bypassed two large towns and countless villages. The morning star had risen, and the morning breeze was blowing, but the woman in golden robes ahead was still speeding forward.

Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng wasn't anxious; he was going to the rooftop anyway. However, he was very puzzled about the purpose of the woman in golden robes leading him here. However, he was certain that she wasn't trying to compete with him in lightness skills or internal strength, nor was she seeking revenge for killing two of the "Flying Fork Three Geese"'s leaders. If that were the case, with the woman in golden robes' martial arts and swordsmanship, it should be no problem at all. Moreover, killing a subordinate who had killed his enemy wouldn't require such a great deal of effort! He focused his gaze again, his starry eyes suddenly brightening. In the eastern dawn light, the shadows of battlements and arrow towers appeared, clearly indicating a large city based on the string of large red characters hanging above.

Looking ahead at the woman in the golden cloak, her movements suddenly quickened, knowing she was nearing her destination. She then accelerated forward to catch up. Lan Tianpeng, despite his rapid pace, still possessed abundant true energy, showing no signs of fatigue. However, he didn't know if the woman in the golden cloak was in the same state. Due to their combined efforts, the distance between them had actually decreased considerably. Upon seeing this, Lan Tianpeng was overjoyed. Either she was tired, or his own true energy was running high. Therefore, he added two more layers of strength.

The woman in the golden cloak, who had already leaped onto the rooftops of Xiguan Street, looked back, her eyes suddenly lighting up in shock! She appeared slightly nervous, and in the blink of an eye, she was at the foot of the city wall. Lan Tianpeng realized the woman in the golden cloak intended to cross the city wall and resolved to reach the top first, so he could capture her the moment she stepped onto the battlements. With that thought, he quickened his pace, about to leap across the moat, when suddenly the woman in the golden cloak, already across, cried out in a series of sweet voices.

Lan Tianpeng, inexperienced, was startled and abruptly stopped, confused. Just as he turned, the soldiers guarding the city wall shouted. Lan Tianpeng was startled again and quickly looked up. He saw a dozen or so heads wearing helmets peeking out from between the battlements in front of the arrow tower, looking around. Suddenly, one of them pointed at Lan Tianpeng, shouting, "Look! There's someone standing on the other side of the river!"

Lan Tianpeng was shocked, realizing he had no way to defend himself and decided it was best to hide for the time being. The thought had barely formed in his mind when someone on the city wall shouted, "Quickly prepare your bows and arrows!" Hearing this, Lan Tianpeng had no choice but to leap into a deep alley. Meanwhile, the soldiers on the wall yelled, "They've run away! They've run away!"

Although Lan Tianpeng was furious at "Golden Thread Without Shadow's" prank, he genuinely admired her wit! Looking back, "Golden Thread Without Shadow" was already hidden among the battlements, watching him, while the soldiers gathered below the arrow tower couldn't see her. Lan Tianpeng angrily waved at her, indicating, "We'll see." But "Golden Thread Without Shadow" simply nodded slightly to him, then vanished in a flash. With "Golden Thread Without Shadow" gone, Lan Tianpeng naturally saw no need to stay any longer. He decided to find an inn, rest for half a day, and go into the city the next day to at least get to the bottom of the matter.

He believed that "Golden Thread Without Shadow" had lured him here for a reason, and as long as he was careful, he wouldn't suffer any losses. Having made up his mind, he retreated towards the main street outside the alley. Turning around, he noticed that every house had a cinnabar talisman drawn on yellow paper pasted on its door. The paper was brand new, and the cinnabar was bright red, indicating it hadn't been pasted long ago. Stepping out of the alley, he was startled again. Every shop on the main street was decorated with colorful banners, and every household had talismans pasted on their doors. Moreover, seven or eight houses had gauze lanterns hanging below their doors.

Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng was stunned, unable to understand what was going on. He wondered if this was related to "Golden Thread Without Shadow" leading him here. With this thought in mind, he walked along the street towards the end, discovering that every house with a lantern was an inn, and the doors illuminated by the lanterns all had large red signs indicating they were fully booked. Lan Tianpeng looked at each house one by one until he finally found a small inn at the street corner. The door was ajar, and there was no sign saying it was full. He pushed the door open and went inside. The accounting room was inside, and there was a light on. On a chair near the door, a thin innkeeper was fast asleep, wrapped in a quilt.

Lan Tianpeng went over and nudged the innkeeper's shoulder, saying, "Wake up, brother."

The innkeeper was quite alert. With a gentle push, Lan Tianpeng jumped off the chair, saying, "Sir, are you leaving?" As he spoke, he forced his eyes open while habitually forcing a smile. Lan Tianpeng said softly, "I just arrived, I need to stay."

The innkeeper was taken aback, glancing at the already pale sky, and said with a smile, "The guests are about to leave, sir, you still need to stay..." He paused, then seemed to realize something, saying, "Right, right, it gets lively after noon. If you go early, there won't be many people. There's a quiet little room in the back of the shop, enough for you." With that, he led the way out of the shop and headed towards the back.

Although Lan Tianpeng didn't understand what the innkeeper was saying, he was certain it was related to the talismans on the street. At this time, some of the guests in the shop had already lit their lamps, but remained silent. After passing several rows of shops and one or two courtyards, under a large banyan tree near the corner of the wall, there was indeed a small house with one room lit and one room dark. The shopkeeper, while taking out the key, smiled and said, "This is the room."

Lan Tianpeng frowned, puzzled, and asked, "Why is this room locked?"

The shopkeeper unlocked the door, smiling, and said, "To be honest, apart from guests who prefer peace and quiet, very few people stay here..."

Lan Tianpeng couldn't help but interrupt, asking, "Why?"

The shopkeeper had already opened the door, and while respectfully inviting Lan Tianpeng into the room, he said, "Because most merchants and travelers are extra careful when they're out, afraid of encountering evil spirits or foxes. This room is quite far from the main shop, and the staff are too lazy to come here, so they usually lock the door."

Lan Tianpeng's heart stirred upon hearing this, realizing that to investigate the purpose of "Golden Thread Without Shadow" leading him here, he might have to stay here for a few more days. Looking around the room, he found the furnishings quite elegant, clearly intended to attract guests. He turned to the innkeeper and said, "This little room is quite nice; I might stay here for a while longer." The innkeeper

was overjoyed and excitedly replied, "That's wonderful! Actually, after the Goddess's birthday, the city and surrounding areas are just as lively..."

Lan Tianpeng interrupted, asking, "The streets are plastered with talismans; is that all for the Goddess's birthday?"

The innkeeper nodded, "Yes, it's our Chenxi City's annual grand event. Thousands upon thousands of devout men and women come from all directions to burn incense at the Goddess's temple; it's packed to the brim."

Lan Tianpeng had... Lan Tianpeng inquired about the "Dragon and Phoenix Society" from the innkeeper, deliberately starting with the goddess's birthday. He continued, "Where is the goddess's temple? It must be very lively."

The innkeeper, as expected, launched into a long explanation: "Of course it's lively! You wouldn't believe it even if I told you. Tomorrow, once you enter the city, go towards the crowds, and I guarantee you'll find the Holy Mother's Palace."

Lan Tianpeng deliberately frowned and asked, "Won't tourists encounter interference from any gangs?"

The innkeeper immediately shook his head seriously and said, "Don't worry, absolutely not. This is the 'Dragon and Phoenix Society's' territory. Which hero of the martial world doesn't inquire about the famous 'Flying Fork Three Geese'?"

Lan Tianpeng's heart skipped a beat, and he asked in surprise, "You mean the 'Flying Fork Three Geese' are in the city now?"

The innkeeper, though thin, was very shrewd. Seeing Lan Tianpeng's expression, he asked in astonishment, "You're a scholar, why are you looking for Master Xie?"

Upon hearing this, Lan Tianpeng immediately realized his lapse in composure and quickly smiled, saying, "I've met Master Xie once before. I know he's been based in Changsha for many years..." The

shopkeeper, upon hearing this, immediately exclaimed excitedly, "So you're a friend of Master Xie! Please, sir, tell me what you need; our shop will provide it all free of charge."

Lan Tianpeng deliberately smiled and said, "I don't need anything. I'll let you know when I do. Since Master Xie is here, I'll pay him a visit tomorrow, but I don't know how to find him."

The shopkeeper, believing him, immediately continued, "The Dragon and Phoenix Society's branch is opposite the 'Holy Mother Palace,' but Master Xie always goes to Chengnan Lake early in the morning whenever he comes to the town."

Lan Tianpeng, upon hearing this, asked in confusion, "Chengnan Lake?"

The shopkeeper immediately exaggeratedly praised, "At night, the city is deserted; everyone goes to Chengnan Lake outside the South Gate. You'll see how lively it is when I go there tonight."

Seeing that he couldn't get any more information, Lan Tianpeng waved his hand and said, "Go on, I'll call you if I need anything." The

shopkeeper, assuming Lan Tianpeng was truly a friend of the "Flying Fork Three Geese," hurriedly bowed and nodded, cautiously leaving the room. As soon as the shopkeeper left, Lan Tianpeng immediately lay down on the bed, briefly pondered the method for finding the "Golden Thread Without Shadow," and then closed his eyes to sleep. Even when a martial artist is asleep, they maintain a subconscious alertness; in a situation like Lan Tianpeng's, they dare not relax and sleep.

Due to two days of travel and a lack of restful sleep, coupled with his still-awake state, he didn't wake up refreshed until noon. Just as he was about to go out to call the shopkeeper, the shopkeeper who had led him there at dawn arrived at the door. Lan Tianpeng casually ordered a meal, eating while continuing to think about the method for finding the "Golden Thread Without Shadow." By then, the sounds of commotion and the beating of drums could be heard from the street, interspersed with the crackling of firecrackers.

Lan Tianpeng quickly finished his meal and went straight out of the shop. The street was bustling with activity, a constant stream of vehicles and pedestrians, most heading towards the city. Lan Tianpeng mingled with the crowd, gradually approaching the city gate. Although there were two rows of soldiers below, their indifferent expressions suggested they had long forgotten what had happened at dawn. Following the flow of people through the city gate, it was indeed even more lively than the shopkeeper had described.

Among the crowd were bamboo baskets carrying incense, paper money, and offerings; Lan Tianpeng knew without asking that these were believers going to burn incense at the "Holy Mother Palace." Although Lan Tianpeng had only been down the mountain for a little over two days, he seemed to have learned a great deal. He wanted to pay attention to the faces behind him and to his left and right, to see if anyone was watching him. However, the crowd was so overwhelming that even turning back for a glance was impossible; he could only continue forward.

More and more people gradually arrived, and before they knew it, carriages and sedan chairs were nowhere to be seen on the street. Many elegantly dressed young girls, maids, and wealthy old ladies were all pushing forward in the crowd. The resistance from the crowd grew stronger and stronger. Dozens of feet ahead, they could see the rising smoke and ashes of incense, as well as the endless rows of vendors' carts.

Lan Tianpeng knew that the "Holy Mother Palace" was just ahead. In order to arrive as soon as possible, he had to secretly use his internal energy to nimbly squeeze forward through the gaps in the crowd. In no time, he had arrived in front of the "Holy Mother Palace." Looking around, he saw that it was a square. From where Lan Tianpeng stood, there were still several dozen feet between the majestic gate of the "Holy Mother Palace." The square was filled with various stalls, and devout men and women burning incense and making vows squeezed in and out of the gaps between these stalls.

Lan Tianpeng saw that inside the "Holy Mother Palace," ancient pines towered high, blocking out the sun. Most of them looked to be hundreds of years old. The magnificent hall was even more splendid, with colorful decorations and golden beast faces, even more magnificent than the Lüzu Temple. Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng decided to go in first to offer his congratulations, and then try to find "Golden Thread Without Shadow" or "Flying Fork Three Geese."

With his mind made up, he headed straight for the mountain gate. As he walked, he saw incense burning brightly in a giant cauldron before the gate, the smoke rising high. Many devout men and women, unable to squeeze closer to burn incense, were throwing it into the cauldron. On either side of the gate were incinerators, made of glazed tiles, reaching a height of fifteen feet. The roaring flames sent the ashes of burnt paper money through round holes on all four sides, rising into the air. Further inside from the towering gate, the air was thick with incense smoke, a dense atmosphere. In the crowded main hall, the Buddha statues were so indistinct that the dignified image of the goddess was no longer visible.

Since most of the devotees were elderly people and women, Lan Tianpeng could only proceed naturally, while also discreetly observing whether anyone seemed suspicious. After finally squeezing to the front, they discovered that the "Holy Mother Palace" gate was a massive project. The statues of the Four Heavenly Kings alone were three zhang tall. Looking up at them, the Heavenly Kings looked down, their heads as big as oxen and their eyes as big as fists. Those who had done something wrong in secret would be terrified if they walked at the feet of the Heavenly Kings.

Having already paid homage to the statues of Zengzhang and Guangmu, Lan Tianpeng was about to proceed to pay his respects to Chiguo and Duowen when, turning around, he was delighted to see a boy who looked about sixteen or seventeen years old staring intently at him from under the stone pillar at the exit! Moreover, the boy seemed startled when Lan Tianpeng saw him and turned to squeeze into the crowd. Lan Tianpeng immediately recognized him as someone sent by "Golden Thread Without Shadow" to keep watch, and thus, he too hurriedly squeezed into the crowd. However, Lan Tianpeng was standing on the south path leading to the main hall, where devout men and women lined the entrance. By the time Lan Tianpeng squeezed through the gate, the boy had vanished without a trace. Just then, a resounding Buddhist chant, "Amitabha," echoed from the center of the street near the plaza.

Lan Tianpeng was immediately startled by the powerful "Amitabha," and following the sound, his eyes lit up—he saw a young couple, a boy and a girl, reined in their horses in the center of the street, both calmly gazing ahead. The young man on horseback, with a yellow silk turban tied around his hair and wearing a yellow satin robe, held a gilded fan and had a face as white as powder. His lips were like painted cinnabar; he was truly a handsome young man.

Even Lan Tianpeng couldn't help but secretly admire him; he had encountered two handsome young men as good-looking as Pan An in the past two days. The young woman on horseback, dressed in red, had a large red butterfly tied to her long hair, and carried two swords on her back. Most striking was the tassel on the two sword hilts she carried on her back; contrary to the usual martial arts custom, the tassel on her left shoulder was gold, while the tassel on her right shoulder was silver.

The young woman had willow-leaf eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes, peach-blossom cheeks, and a delicate nose. Her thin, bright red lips were slightly parted, clearly indicating anger. Meanwhile, the people in the square already knew what had happened over there, and many shouted and pushed their way towards the other side. However, the devout men and women who had come to burn incense paid no attention to the commotion.

Seeing this, Lan Tianpeng could no longer search for the boy who was spying on them, so he squeezed his way to the middle. Hearing the earlier "Amitabha," he deduced that the person blocking their path must be a Buddhist disciple. However, peeking ahead, he saw a tall, imposing figure with long hair and a crescent-shaped golden headband—a dark-faced monk.

Lan Tianpeng paid special attention to the monk because the master of his father's killers, the brothers Dui Bao and Dui Renxiong, was the "Iron-Armed Monk." To get a better look, he pushed his way forward and discovered that in front of the tall monk sitting cross-legged on the ground was an enormous, shiny black wooden fish. Judging from its appearance and shape, it was most likely made of iron; if it was, it probably weighed at least seven or eight hundred pounds, making the monk's strength unimaginable.

As Lan Tianpeng observed, he heard the handsome young man in yellow robes on the yellow horse smile faintly: "You monk, you're being unreasonable. I have no acquaintance with you, nor any grudge against you. Why do you block my way time and time again?" The monk

, sitting cross-legged on the ground, raised his thick eyebrows, glared at the girl in red with his large, round eyes, and sneered, "The Buddha has already said that if the Buddha doesn't beg for alms, fine; but if he does, he must give."

The handsome young man in yellow robes smiled faintly, and almost simultaneously with the girl in red, he glanced at Lan Tianpeng, then... Continuing to gaze at the monk on the ground, he said, "What alms do you want? Tell me, and I'll hear it. If you want what I have..."

Before he could finish, the evil monk, his eyes gleaming like copper bells, stared at the girl in red and said in a deep voice, "This Buddha wants the sword on this female benefactor's back."

Upon hearing this, the girl in red was immediately enraged and said coldly, "You monk, you must

be tired of living!" The evil monk, upon hearing this, suddenly raised his wooden fish with both hands and slammed it to the ground with a "crack," immediately sending dust flying and creating a crater more than half a foot deep. The onlookers gasped in surprise, and the two horses, startled, took several steps back, raising their heads and letting out a startled neigh! Upon seeing her, the girl in red raised an eyebrow and let out a sharp cry. Just as she was about to dismount, the boy in yellow reached out and pulled her back, saying to the monk lying on the ground before the horse, "You might think that since my wife carries two swords on her back, one more wouldn't make a difference. But let me tell you, one of them is mine."

Hearing the word "wife," Lan Tianpeng couldn't help but look up at the girl in red. So they were husband and wife! But upon closer inspection, the girl in red's beauty seemed somewhat mismatched with this handsome young man. As the monk sized him up, he looked at the young man on horseback and said in a deep voice, "The Buddha has said that once words are spoken, alms must be given, whether you like

it or not." Upon hearing this, the young man in yellow robes flew into a rage, raising an eyebrow and shouting, "I'm giving you a silver ingot because you're a Buddhist disciple. Get out of here quickly, or don't blame me for making sure your blood is spilled here!"

As soon as he uttered the word "heavens," his right wrist shot out, a cold light shooting straight at the ironwood fish—with a "clang," several sparks flew, and the silver ingot vanished, leaving behind a deep hole in the convex surface of the ironwood fish! Lan Tianpeng stared in astonishment, looking up at the young man in yellow robes. The onlookers were all stunned, not a single person uttering a sound of approval! The monk, sitting on the ground, staring blankly at the deep hole in the wooden fish, was speechless, his face ashen.

The composed young man in yellow robes glanced at him, gave a cold laugh, and said, "Iron-Armed Monk, why don't you hurry up and run for your life? Are you just waiting to die here?"

Upon hearing "Iron-Armed Monk," Lan Tianpeng seemed to wake from a dream, and pointed at the "Iron-Armed Monk" who was lifting his wooden fish to leave, shouting sharply, "Stop—"
