Does not becoming a member mean there's no chance?

I'm not sure how to put it, but I'm thinking of becoming a member. However, when I search, I find very few people in my city who
can connect. I'm wondering if I'll actually be able to connect after I pay.
Haha, has anyone successfully connected with a regular member?
