After she went back, we continued our intimate moments in the game. Both of us, already married, knew our actions were playing with fire. But extramarital affairs are like poppies, always more alluring and fragrant than a mundane married life. That's just how people are; forbidden pleasures are always more captivating.
While writing this, I've asked myself honestly, am I a scumbag? A heartless man who's lost all conscience?
Maybe!
In reality, most of us aren't as noble as we claim, nor as upright and pure as we think. In the mundane world, we, whether right or wrong, more or less, will always hurt some people and let others down.
Later, my company had a project on an island, and I led a team there. The network signal on the island was terrible; my Wi-Fi card was unusable, so I entrusted my game account to her to level it up for me. We occasionally talked on the phone, expressing our longing.
A few months later, several of my other friends from the game called me, their hesitant words implying that she had started a relationship with someone else in the game.
I was a little skeptical, so I went to an internet cafe off the island and logged into the game. She wasn't there; her game account showed she was in another country within the game. I messaged her privately in the game, and the reply wasn't her, but her husband. I checked her game account's personal blog and saw many screenshots—game pictures of her and that person together.
I then logged into the game's built-in chat software and looked for her voice chat account, but it showed she wasn't logged in. I then looked for that person's voice chat account and found a private room with only two people: that person and an account named "So-and-so," the last two characters of that person's game name. This room required a password, so I couldn't enter.
I messaged "So-and-so's Baby" privately, asking, "Is that you?" She replied, "No, you've mistaken me for someone else."
I already suspected that "Baby" was her, but since she wouldn't admit it, I didn't want to pursue it further.
After leaving the internet cafe, I called her, but she didn't answer. I then sent her a text message essentially saying that it's her right to play with whomever she wants, and there's no need to hide it.
After returning from the island, I moved to another construction site. This place was better; the Wi-Fi worked smoothly, so I continued to hone my account.
Sometimes in the game, I'd encounter her account in the neutral zone. I had nothing to say, no greetings, but my heart would clench with pain.
Another female character in my clan wanted to marry me in the game, but I refused. I'm a very sentimental person, and I didn't want to get entangled with people in the game anymore.
The female character didn't force me; she just chatted with me occasionally in the game. After chatting for a while, we developed a mutual understanding and appreciation.
Then one day, this female character suddenly called me, telling me she was coming to visit and asking if I could meet her.
As a friend, I should at least show her hospitality.
I picked her up in my car. She was a woman in her thirties, slightly plump, but with a certain charm.
After treating her to dinner, she suggested going to a karaoke bar, so I went with her.
