I have a friend who works in waterproofing. Once, after a date with him, we had dinner and ran into a man surnamed Ma. My friend greeted him respectfully, but Ma only gave a polite response. However, when he saw me, he greeted me very warmly. I knew this Mr. Ma; he was a comrade-in-arms of my father. Many years ago, my father asked him to introduce me to potential partners, and he had enthusiastically introduced me to two, but for various reasons, neither of them worked out. Later, my friend talked to me about Mr. Ma, saying that he had been trying to contact him recently, hoping to secure the waterproofing project for the residential complex he was developing. I told him that Mr. Ma was a comrade-in-arms of my father, and we agreed that if I could help him get the project, I would receive a 20,000 yuan commission.
Later, I asked my dad, and he said that Old Ma was no longer what he used to be. He started out in the sand quarry business, then moved into engineering and development, and now he's expanded into the city. Apparently, he's very wealthy. They used to keep in touch frequently, but now they have virtually no real contact. It seemed my dad's advice wouldn't work; I had to find a way myself. I finally managed to contact Old Ma and told him that my friend and I wanted to do the waterproofing work for his development project. Old Ma said he'd look into it and get back to me, but several days passed without a word. I knew this wouldn't work, so I found out where his office was and went twice before finally meeting him. I dressed up carefully every day. It was still a bit chilly those days, so I wore a trench coat over a low-cut top. If I didn't unbutton the coat, my outfit would have been quite ordinary, but unbuttoning it revealed about a third of my chest. I also brought a box of tea. When I went in, he was looking at some paper. I put the tea on his table and unbuttoned my coat. He looked up, glancing at my chest as he spoke. He implied that a friend had also asked if he could get the waterproofing done. I told him to try and find a way to get it done for us, and then offered to treat him to dinner that evening. He said he already had plans. I added, "After dinner, I'll treat you to karaoke." He seemed surprised and didn't agree.
