My teacher is as beautiful as a demon. (298)

Volume 1 Living with the Beautiful Teacher, Chapter 298: Violence and Gratitude.

Liang Jun didn't understand why Nan Ba Po wouldn't let him out. He was even a little annoyed;

why should he, a grown man, take orders from her? But Liang Jun felt resentful, though he didn't say it aloud, just mumbling

incoherently.

On the other end, Nan Ba Po was still furiously issuing orders: "I'm telling you, no matter what,

you have to be back by tomorrow morning."

Liang Jun smiled broadly, but his eyes were extremely cold. He agreed, and

after hanging up, he turned off his phone. In his mind, he finally had a chance to avenge Cui Miao and

Zhang Huijun, so he had to seize the opportunity. He had spent a lot of money this time, and

Long Xiang had sent him a plane without asking any questions. Would he have another chance?

Did he still have the nerve to keep asking for favors?

In Liang Jun's opinion, nothing in the world was more important than avenging the two female internet cafe managers.

As for why Nan Ba Po insisted on calling him back, he had no idea. In short, he needed to seize the opportunity

to get his business sorted out.

After turning off his phone, he took out a pack of Zhonghua cigarettes from his pocket and distributed them to the villagers standing in front of him

. The villagers' eyes lit up as they sniffed the cigarettes, their excitement

overflowing . They muttered, "Zhonghua! This is the best cigarette in China!

" Liang Jun didn't correct them, but simply lit one for each of them. Some villagers obviously didn't know how to smoke,

holding the cigarette between their index finger and thumb as if they were doing something strange with their mouths. Seeing that everyone's expressions relaxed, Liang Jun

said, "We're from a Shanghai insurance company. Cui Miao from your village had an accident at work. We later discovered that

the beneficiaries she registered should be her parents. So, we've come to see if her parents are still managing

to make ends meet. We have a responsibility in this matter."

Hearing Liang Jun's words, the villagers stared at each other in disbelief for a long while before someone finally spoke up, saying, "

Good heavens ! Finally, someone has come to inquire about Old Cui's family! These past two years, the old couple have been paralyzed, and their lives have been miserable

. Their daughter died, and even their life savings were taken by their son-in-law." At this moment, someone coughed nearby,

quickly falling silent. Liang Jun sensed something amiss and asked, "Where does Cui Miao's family live?"

Someone roughly gestured a direction: "Go straight down this street, and

their house is in that small shack at the back of the village."

Liang Jun shielded his eyes with his hand and looked ahead. Sure enough, in the morning light, there was a small shack standing alone at the back of the village.

In stark contrast to the other houses, where smoke was rising from chimneys, this small shack remained

silent.

Liang Jun led his men there. Along the way, people kept peeking out of courtyard gates, watching them,

and several dogs followed behind, growling menacingly. Liang Jun, annoyed, said to Shuanzi, "Shuanzi, what's your skill?

" Shuanzi, probably still half-asleep, was nodding and groggily. Hearing Liang Jun's words, he turned around and

bared his teeth at the dogs, mimicking their baring. The dogs were terrified, not understanding

what was happening. Why were even people baring their teeth? They turned and ran away as if their lives depended on it.

Reaching the shack, Hong Jingliang rushed to open the door, but after taking just one step inside, he fell

backward , nearly tripping. Liang Jun caught him, asking, "What happened? What happened?" Hong Jingliang covered

his nose and gestured to Liang Jun, meaning, "Go in yourself." Liang Jun, filled with suspicion, walked into the house. Just as he

reached the doorway, a stench from inside jolted him back out. He covered his nose and exclaimed,

"Why does it stink so bad?"

The group lingered at the door for several minutes, waiting for the smell to dissipate before reluctantly entering. There,

on the kang (heated brick bed), lay an old man. His hair was disheveled, and he was so thin he was just skin and bones. His hair, body,

and fingernails were covered in filth, and the entire place reeked of a foul stench. The group watched the old man, and as they took

a step closer, they felt as if they had stepped on something. A faint groan followed. Liang Jun and the others quickly pulled back and

looked down, startled to see something hunched over by the stove. Upon closer inspection,

it seemed to be a person. She had some rags under her arms and was pulling potatoes out of the stove pit. They

realized it was a ragged old woman. Perhaps because Liang Jun and the others had stepped

on hair was singed by the embers in the stove, emitting a burnt smell.

Liang Jun was alarmed and quickly tried to help her up, but the old woman immediately

cried out in pain, as if one of her bones was broken. Liang Jun and the others quickly put her down, leaving her to crawl into the house on

the ground , using the rags as cushions.

Could this be Cui Miao's house? Liang Jun carefully followed her into the house and gently carried the old woman onto the kang (a heated brick bed).

The old woman turned her head with difficulty and asked, "Who are you?

" Liang Jun lowered his head and asked, "Auntie, are you Cui Miao's mother?" The old woman visibly trembled. After a long while,

a few cloudy tears welled up in the corners of her eyes. Her lips trembled, and she struggled to control herself, asking, "Miao'er

is dead. Who are you?"

Hearing the old woman call out "Miao'er," Liang Jun confirmed that this was indeed the mother of the beautiful and kind girl, Cui Miao. His

tears could no longer be held back and streamed down his face. He gently embraced the old woman, saying, "I am your son, I am

your son, old woman, I'm too late." Feeling Liang Jun's comfort, perhaps due to a spiritual connection,

the old woman actually began to weep sorrowfully in Liang Jun's arms. This scene, witnessed by Hong Jingliang and the others who had followed him in, showed that even

these men, accustomed to committing murder under the cover of darkness and arson in the wind, were moved to tears. They seemed to

suddenly understand Liang Jun's character. Kindness and malice are two interdependent mindsets, just as love and hate are two

interdependent psychological states. It is precisely because of love for one's own family that one feels hatred and

malice towards those who commit heinous crimes.

The men shed tears for a while before Liang Jun helped the old woman up. He

finally ; she did indeed see Cui Miao's features.

Liang Jun asked, "Mother, what happened? How did you all end up like this?" The old woman sighed and

slowly recounted her heartbreaking story.

The Cui family had migrated from Shaanxi to Henan during a famine. They shared only one bowl, and

often after two or three days, it wouldn't even hold half a bowl of porridge. Desperate with hunger, they gathered

tree leaves and grass roots to eat. Even so, Cui Miao's young aunt starved to death. Cui Miao's grandmother

wept bitterly, holding her dead daughter. Grandma Yang saw this and, out of a woman's natural

compassion, secretly told the Cui family that there was a sweet potato field in the southern hills, belonging to the village,

and that a load of sweet potato vines hadn't been harvested yet. She told them to go and carry it back at night. The old man was

afraid, but Grandma Yang said, "What are you afraid of? In these times, the bold get rich, the timid starve. Everyone in the village

is stealing; who can they catch?" So, under the cover of night, the old man went and carried

back the load of sweet potato vines.

This load of sweet potato vines alleviated the Cui family's famine, and they finally survived their ordeal. From then on, the elders of the Cui family

repeatedly told their descendants to remember the kindness of the Yang family, saying that without the Yang family, there would

be no Cui family.

The Cui family members were all honest and kind, and their gratitude to the Yang family was genuine. Whenever the Yang family needed help, the Cui

family would give without hesitation, providing whatever they asked for. Their relationship with the Liang family was truly exceptional, as close as family

.

Later, Cui Miao'er grew up and married a woman from another village. However, for some reason, he

didn't have children for a long time after marriage. It wasn't until he was in his thirties that his wife became pregnant,

just like the youngest son of the Yang family. When both families had children, it was a boy and

a girl. To strengthen the bond between the two families, the Liang family matriarch arranged a marriage between their children.

Later, the Liang family matriarch passed away. However, this special relationship remained, although

the descendants no longer frequently mentioned the past kindness, which displeased the Yang family, who

began to repeatedly emphasize the Yang family's kindness to the Cui family. Sometimes, when Yang Tongzhou (Cui Miao's future father-in-law) had

a , he would go to the Cui family and berate them, saying things like, "Don't forget, without the Yang family, there wouldn't be your Cui

family. The Yang family has been kind to your Cui family." Every time he said this, Cui Miao's father would quickly put on a smiling face for half a day.

Later on, the Yang family took over all of the Cui family's affairs. In other words, Yang Tongzhou took over

all of rights to live and produce. He would even

come to their house to dictate what crops to plant in the spring, what time to get up to weed in the summer, and even what kind of dumplings to make for the Spring Festival. In 1994, when the Yang family built their house, Yang Tongzhou came to the Cui family

to make arrangements, saying, "Tomorrow, all three of you have to go and get the oxcart ready. Now is the time to see how you repay

the Yang family. I hope you won't let us down."

On the eve of the house-raising ceremony, Yang Tongzhou came to the Cui family and said, "There will be many people coming tomorrow. Your wife (referring to

Cui Miao's mother) can stay home and cook. Your family will take care of nine tables of food for us. Originally, we wanted you to take care of twelve tables,

but to accommodate you, we've only arranged three." Cui Miao's mother couldn't stand it anymore and said, "

It was originally for your family, how can you say it's helping us?"

Yang Tongzhou immediately became furious, pointing his pipe at Cui Miao's mother's head and saying, "What kind of person do you think you are? Your

family's lives were saved by us. I've never seen such a heartless and ungrateful person." Fortunately, Cui Miao

's father repeatedly apologized, preventing a complete falling out. However, even so, Yang Tongzhou still spoke

ill of Cui Miao's mother in the village for half a year, telling everyone he met, "Without my Yang family, there would be no Cui family. We saved their lives

. If it weren't for our Yang family, how could Old Cui have gotten a wife? If it weren't for our Yang family,

he wouldn't have been able to have children."

The villagers laughed, "Did you help with the baby's birth?" Yang Tongzhou retorted, "What? What family

matters haven't I been taking care of? If it weren't for me, they would have been ruined long ago. And haven't their fields

received a couple more rain showers than others?"

The villagers were now confused. Goodness, the rain on the Cui family's land was all thanks to Yang Tongzhou

?

But regardless, the whole village now knew that the Yang family had done the Cui family a great favor. This put even more pressure on Cui Miao's father

, making him even more afraid to have any

conflict , the whole village would gossip about him.

That's how it is; the more you emphasize someone's kindness, the more resentment you generate. As Cui

Miao grew older and read more, the girl began to ponder things, asking, "What kind of kindness is this?"

Back then, it's true you told us you stole sweet potato vines, but it was my grandfather who risked his life

to carry them back; we did the work ourselves. It wasn't taken from your house. Besides,

what good can a load of sweet potato vines do? Why does your family keep using this as an excuse to bully us? However,

every time she explained this to her father, the honest and simple-minded father would scold her with trepidation.

Later, trouble finally came. As Cui Miao grew more and more beautiful, her betrothed, Yang Yu,

started to get anxious and wanted to have sex with her sooner. He secretly made advances towards Cui Miao several times, but she always dodged him

. The more this happened, the more Yang Yu's desire became. He begged his father to bring Cui Miao to their home

. Yang Tongzhou thought it was a good idea; let the girl come to their home and work for them for a few more years. So, they

went to the Cui family and gave them an ultimatum: let Miao come to their house first, and they would formally hold the wedding in a few years.

When Cui Miao's mother arrived, saying that the child was still in high school, Yang Tongzhou yelled, "What

high school ? You've spoiled her! What's the point of her going to high school? You're just showing off! What's the point of a girl going to high school?

" Cui Miao's father, single-mindedly focused on repaying their debt, forced Cui Miao to drop out of school and go to the Yang family. On her first

night at the Yang family's, after dinner, a tired Cui Miao was about to go to sleep when her mother-in-law stopped her, gave her a basin,

and actually told her to wash her father-in-law's feet. Cui Miao was furious and said, "Why should I? I'm not your daughter!"

Before she could finish speaking, her father-in-law slapped her. Yang Tongzhou said, "Your whole family owes us.

What's wrong with washing my feet? Let me tell you, your whole family can't repay our kindness even if you work like cattle for the rest of your lives."

When Cui Miao saw him bring up this again, she became furious and said, "The kindness your family has shown is like a load of sweet

potato vines . How can you possibly repay such kindness? My family has been going on for three generations, and we're still struggling to repay this load of kindness!"

"Sweet potato vines as slaves."

Yang Tongzhou pointed at Cui Miao and said, "What did I tell you? I saw it all along. This whole

family is reactionary to the core, heartless, ruthless, and inhuman." Turning to his

son Yang Yu, he said, "Aren't you going to beat them up? Aren't you going to teach these people a lesson?"

Cui Miao, who had suppressed her anger for so many years, could no longer control herself. She picked up a washbasin and

smashed it turning and running away.

Cui Miao ran down the mountain path and out of the house in one breath. Yang Yu chased after her but couldn't catch her, so he went to the Cui family home and, without giving Cui Miao

's father a chance to explain, beat him, causing him to become paralyzed from the waist down. To silence the villagers,

the Yang family began spreading rumors about the Cui family, saying how heartless and ungrateful they were,

and how much they had done for the Cui family, yet the Cui family was like an ungrateful dog. From then on, some uninformed villagers

would point and whisper about the Cui family, and some would even deliberately spit in front of them, calling

them heartless.

Having been bullied for half their lives, they were now seen as heartless themselves. Cui Miao's father, paralyzed in bed, was too

ashamed to even lift his head. But Cui Miao's mother couldn't bear it any longer. Having lived in the shadow of the Yang family

for , she decided to fight back and filed

a lawsuit in the county court. However, the case was dropped halfway through. It was later discovered that a

distant relative He Jinxiang, the secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the county, had interfered, and the matter was left unresolved.

With no recourse, the Cui family could only swallow their anger. However, the matter was far from over. Just as Cui Miao's

parents were missing their daughter and hoping for her future success, Cui Miao was murdered in an internet cafe.

Her parents remained completely unaware of the crime. The first to learn of the murder were the Yang family, who had blocked all information about

the Cui family . Upon hearing of Cui Miao's death, Yang Yu's first thought was about compensation.

He naturally assumed that as Cui Miao's husband, the compensation should rightfully belong to him, and so he

took it upon himself to go to Shanghai and collect the compensation money.

Upon their return, news gradually reached Cui Miao's family. Hearing that their daughter had died in Shanghai, the elderly couple wept

until dry. Cui Miao's mother was furious to hear that the Yang family had swindled her daughter's compensation money. The already

impoverished Cui family was burdened with debt due to Cui Miao's father's paralysis, and now, with their daughter gone, even

the compensation money had been taken. This was utterly unreasonable. She had raised her daughter with such hardship; she had

no right to compensation. Those who hadn't contributed a single penny to raising her were brazenly receiving compensation.

Where could she find justice? Cui Miao's mother went to the Yang family to reason with them, but before she could say much, Yang Yu broke

her leg.

The elderly couple were paralyzed in bed by Yang Yu's beatings. Finally, someone couldn't bear to watch any longer and

called the police. The police only made a token appearance, as Yang Yu had already

fled because He Jinxiang had tipped them off. ...

As he listened to Cui Miao's mother's fragmented account, Liang Jun's face grew increasingly grim. A surge of murderous

intent filled his chest, and his teeth clenched so tightly they clicked. The men around him

knew from his expression that he was about to unleash another killing spree.

Just then, a voice rang out from outside the door, "What's going on? What's with the wailing so early in the morning?"

Liang Jun looked up to see a tall, imposing man in his sixties striding in.
