I wrote this short piece a long time ago when I first started exploring dating and marriage. I recently stumbled upon it again, revisiting my initial aspirations and inspiring myself to continue striving towards my long-cherished goal.

As intellectual and emotional beings, especially those who have experienced the confusion of childhood and the impulsiveness of youth and entered middle age, we may have achieved success in our careers or enjoyed the warmth of family. However, the most indispensable emotions of a person gradually wither and decay. Some say it's the pressure of society, others say it's aesthetic fatigue, or perhaps there are other explanations. In fact, I believe it stems from our own indifference, our apathy towards life's pursuits, our complacency with the warmth of family, our timidity in the face of passionate love, and our stagnation in the face of pure friendship… In middle age, our bodies and minds have been tainted by too much of the world's filth, making us unwilling and afraid to break free from the cage and shackles of our spirits. We become trembling and cautious, as if only in this way can we maintain everything we've worked so hard for, only in this way can we numbly eke out a living in this world. Thus, we only seek to survive, neglecting to live a fulfilling life; we only seek stability, forgetting to nourish our emotions. When we finally awaken, we find that we are already on our deathbed, and it is too late for regrets. Therefore, we want to reinvent ourselves, to pursue a brand new feeling, a brand new life. We hope to find a pair of friends of similar age, to inject new enthusiasm into each other's lives, to create a warm and intimate friendship, like brothers and sisters, like family. One trouble, four people share; each person can alleviate three-quarters of their worries. One happiness, four people share; our happiness is thus amplified fourfold. We can support each other through thick and thin, we can grow old together—what a romantic, what a warm feeling that would be! Although we know all this is difficult, we firmly believe that it will not just be a dream; it will surely be waiting for us not far away. We look forward to a pair of friends like ourselves entering our lives, entering our emotional world. How wonderful!
