Beauty's Intoxication

The Jianghu (江湖, the martial arts world) is like the two characters that make up
its name, "river" and "lake," inherently not a place of calm and tranquility.
An ancient poem says, "Talented people emerge in every generation, each leading the way for a hundred years." The Jianghu is the same; countless sects and gangs are established, and countless others are destroyed. Like gold being sifted from sand, some always survive and continue to grow stronger. The Power Gang is a prime example.
The history of the Power Gang begins with Zhong Quanli, who had an extreme pursuit of power and was its founder. Just like his name and the gang's name, Zhong Quanli made no secret of his thirst for power and pursued his ideals throughout his life, but his abilities were still far from achieving this goal.
The Power Gang's true rise began under its third leader, "Guan Wang Dao" Guan Wutong. Guan Wutong possessed extremely high martial arts skills, known as "Third in the World," meaning he was second only to the leaders of Shaolin and Wudang. It's widely rumored in the martial arts world that if the leaders of Shaolin or Wudang were to truly clash with Guan Wutong, the outcome would be far from certain.
Furthermore, Guan Wutong had found a shortcut to rapidly strengthen the Power Gang: adhering to the principle of "survival of the fittest" and constantly annexing other weaker gangs. Initially, many gangs were unwilling to join the Power Gang, but under Guan Wutong's "those who submit prosper, those who oppose perish" policy, and witnessing the horrific massacres of those who refused to join, the relatively weaker gangs obediently joined. The Power Gang's power expanded rapidly.
After more than twenty years of Guan Wutong's relentless efforts, by the time he stepped down, the Power Gang had surpassed the Pai Gang and the Beggars' Gang, becoming the largest gang in the martial arts world.
Guan Wutong entrusted his business to his four disciples, so the fourth leader of the Power Gang had four people: "The Strike Without a Blade" Qin Dao, "All-Round" Liu Guang, "Silent Sword" Wu Jian, and "Shadowless" Qin Ying.
Because their names together form the phrase "swords and shadows," and their nicknames all contain the character "无" (meaning "nothing"), the martial arts world calls them "The Four No's
of Power, Swords and Shadows." The leader, Qin Dao, is the head of the group, having received the true teachings of Guan Wutong. He is extremely strategic, possesses outstanding management skills, and is deeply loved by his followers. Under his leadership, the Power Gang continues to grow and expand.
The second leader, Liu Guang, is unparalleled in hidden weapon skills; even the leader of the Tang Clan, renowned for its hidden weapons, admits he lacks such prowess. Although a man, Liu Guang is exceptionally skilled in financial management and is Qin Dao's right-hand man, serving as the Power Gang's chief steward.
The third leader, Wu Jian, is taciturn and not good with words, but wields a broken sword, killing silently. He is also the head instructor of all the Power Gang's martial arts instructors, an insurmountable bulwark.
The fourth leader, Qin Ying, is Qin Dao's younger sister and Liu Guang's fiancée. Although a woman, she possessed extraordinary talent, with unparalleled lightness skills, appearing and disappearing without a trace. Furthermore, she was stunningly beautiful, the most beautiful woman in the Power Gang.
"A hero needs three helpers," and even the mighty Guan Wutong was only one person. These four, however, had been fellow disciples for many years: Qin Dao and Qin Ying were siblings, Liu Guang and Qin Ying were engaged, and Wu Jian was very obedient to his senior brother. With their combined efforts, it's easy to understand why the Power Gang flourished.
Qin Dao was even more astute than his master; he not only inherited Guan Wutong's method of annexing weaker gangs to strengthen his power but also developed and evolved it. Originally, after annexing other gangs, the Power Gang treated them as subordinates, with loose management and limited contribution to their own strength.
Qin Dao changed this approach, transforming newly joined gangs into branches or territories of the Power Gang, appointing his own people as leaders. This truly allowed them to assimilate and absorb the annexed gangs, turning them into their own power. By applying this method to existing affiliated gangs without any new members joining, the Power Gang's strength increased by at least 30%.
Qin Dao also understood that the pursuit of power was not, and could not be, achieved simply through force; it also required the recognition of the martial arts world. Therefore, he changed Guan Wutong's aloof and arrogant style, engaging in extensive diplomacy within the martial arts community to garner support for the Power Gang.
Coincidentally, an event changed everyone's perception of the Power Gang and Qin Dao. Once, Qin Dao and Liu Guang represented the Power Gang at a martial arts tournament, but several spies from the Demonic Cult infiltrated the venue. After everyone discovered them, these spies created chaos in the hall, attempting to escape in the confusion. After the other spies were killed, the last two had reached the door and windows, seemingly beyond anyone's control.
Qin Dao slapped the shoulder of the person closest to him, causing them to stumble and bump into those behind them. Those behind bumped into even more people, and so on, like dominoes falling towards the cult spy. Soon, the outermost person collided with the spy trying to escape through the door. Strangely, everyone in front was unharmed, but the last spy hit vomited blood and died instantly.
Liu Guang flicked his wrist, sending a hidden weapon flying, not towards anyone, but towards the roof. The weapon bounced rapidly between the roof beams, then flew out of the skylight, but ultimately flew back in through the window, pinning the spy who was about to jump out to the wall, killing him instantly.
Everyone present was amazed by Qin Dao's "striking without a blade" palm strike and Liu Guang's "omnipotent" technique. Tang Wenjing, the head of the Sichuan Tang Clan, renowned for his hidden weapons, even admitted on the spot that his hidden weapon skills were inferior to Liu Guang's. This incident became a popular topic of conversation in the martial arts world, greatly enhancing the status of the Power Gang and Qin Dao.
Just like Songshan Town and Shaolin Temple, Jiqing City and the Beggar Clan, any prestigious sect brings tremendous development momentum to the surrounding towns.
The Power Gang, in particular, boosted the development of Sishui Town.
Sishui Town was originally just a market town by the main road, but since the Power Gang prospered, the continuous flow of customers and goods brought by it greatly stimulated the development of Sishui Town. In just ten years, Sishui Town developed from an unknown small town into the largest town around the Power Gang.
Er Gou, a small-time hoodlum, a typical sleazy and despicable character, also had a younger sister. His mother was Tao Hong, the most popular girl in Chunyu Courtyard, the most popular brothel in Sishui Town, or rather, the most popular girl in the past. Er Gou's situation was even worse than the other prostitutes' children. While the other prostitutes at least loved and cared for their children, Er Gou and his sister's mother, Tao Hong, hated them to
the core. Tao Hong was originally the top courtesan at Chun Yu Brothel, but fate played a cruel trick on her; she became pregnant, and with twins no less. Although Tao Hong tried every method of abortion except suicide, the two babies were stubborn and wouldn't come out. When the babies were five or six months old, the doctor said that forcibly aborting them would damage her health, so Tao Hong had no choice but to let it go. However, a prostitute's charm inevitably diminishes after pregnancy and childbirth, forcing Tao Hong to fall from a top courtesan to an ordinary prostitute, and her life became much more difficult. She vented all her resentment on her two innocent children.
From the time Er Gou was old enough to understand, Tao Hong never gave him and his sister a kind look. Their names reveal her attitude towards them. He was called Er Gou (Second Dog) because when they were born, the brothel's guard dog also gave birth to puppies, meaning that in Tao Hong's eyes, her children were less than a dog. Since his sister was a girl, it wouldn't be appropriate to call her San Gou (Three Dogs). Tao Hong eventually gave up on naming her, and because everyone in the brothel called her Xiao Tao Hong (Little Tao Hong), that became her name.
A prostitute's child wouldn't receive any care from those around them, so Er Gou and his sister had to care for and support each other, growing up tenaciously. They grew to be twelve years old in this environment.
Xiao Tao Hong was clearly luckier than her brother; both were born of the same mother. While Er Gou wasn't exactly ugly, he was at least unremarkable in appearance, while Xiao Tao Hong inherited her mother's youthful beauty, even surpassing her in some ways. Although only twelve, she was already a little beauty in the making.
In Chunyu Courtyard, there was a pimp's brother who worked for the Power Gang. One day, this pimp asked Xiao Taohong to deliver a message to his brother, as he didn't want anyone to know his brother had a brother who was a pimp. Coincidentally, his brother was under Qin Ying's jurisdiction, and Qin Ying happened to be there that day. Qin Ying immediately took a liking to the clever, quick-witted, and obedient Xiao Taohong, and eventually made her his personal maid.
Her original name had a strong connection to prostitution, so it couldn't be used anymore. Therefore, Qin Ying gave her the surname Qin and renamed her Yaoyue, after the names of three other maids around her. The other three maids' names were Xiangfeng, Shanghua, and Muxue, which together formed the phrase "wind, flower, snow, and moon."
Thus, Xiao Taohong, now named Qin Yaoyue, began a new life in the Power Gang.
Her brother, however, wasn't so lucky. Er Gou continued to grow up in extremely harsh conditions until he was sixteen. To get rid of this bastard child as soon as possible, Taohong, for the one and only time, found Er Gou a menial job at the Sishui gambling den and kicked him out of the house.
