The Most Difficult Battle, Volume 20, Chapter 7 of the Alibuda Chronicles

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-06-06
At this critical juncture, our strongest ally miraculously appeared. I almost applauded, because Li Huamei was clearly not one for chivalry or rules. In her eyes, the Wujian Yimo wasn't a scoundrel or a monster, but simply an enemy. As the leader of the resistance, she only needed to do what she was supposed to do.

In an instant, a startling sharpness and pressure emanated from Li Huamei's eyes. Her gleaming, transparent blade drew a beautiful crescent-shaped arc in the air, slashing diagonally towards the Wujian Yimo's neck.

"Clang!"

The dull thud of metal striking metal was deafening. Li Huamei's thunderous strike was even weaker than Kato Taka's, failing to even pierce the skin. At that moment, I finally understood how powerful the Wujian Yimo's steel body was, and what a peerless weapon Kato Taka's Dragon Slayer Blade truly was. Even with Li Huamei unleashing her earth-shattering eighth-level power, she couldn't pierce the Wujian Yimo's steel body. It seemed that several evolutions had elevated the Wujian Yimo to an unbelievable level.

"Hehehehe, no one can kill me! Li Huamei, your sword can't hurt me a second time!"

Wu Jian Yimo laughed wildly, his demonic left claw flashing out like lightning, grabbing at Li Huamei's fair neck. If this claw could successfully injure his enemy, he would officially become the number one sea general under the Black Dragon King. However, Wu Jian Yimo's confidence was excessive. Although Li Huamei couldn't break his steel body, it didn't mean he had the ability to challenge the strongest level.

"Hmph!"

Li Huamei slightly moved her wrist, without lifting her wrist, and the blade of her sword, which was close to Wu Jian Yimo's thick neck, suddenly exerted tremendous force. Wu Jian Yimo's muscles caved in, and he let out a wild howl, losing his balance and being thrown away, falling seven or eight feet away, crashing into the body of a living corpse dragon, looking utterly pathetic.

"Tornado, disperse!"

With a swift strike that repelled the Martial Demon, Li Huamei swept her sword in all directions, the dense fog of corpse poison that the strong winds hadn't dispersed being forced away by her sword energy. Wherever the gleaming sword light reached, the black fog was completely dispelled. At that moment, the Martial Demon leaped out from the corpse's body. Li Huamei's sword didn't pause for a moment, slashing at the Martial Demon like a shooting star.

Sword after sword, slashing and thrusting, she forced the Martial Demon to retreat steadily, letting out angry howls. Despite its fierce fighting spirit and desperate desire to turn the tide, it was forced to remain completely unable to retaliate.

Those slashes and thrusts, though unable to pierce flesh or cause the Martial Demon pain, still accumulated damage. When that umpteenth blow struck its throat, I even saw blood spill from its mouth. If it weren't for the fact that it was a demon created by the Black Dragon Society for battle, possessing boundless fighting spirit and growing more ferocious in adversity, it would have been driven away by Li Huamei long ago. The

Martial Demon had previously been injured by Li Huamei and Kato Taka, and its steel body had adapted to and evolved to Li Huamei's internal energy and the sharpness of the Dragon Slayer Blade. However, if Li Huamei wielded the Dragon Slayer Blade, its unparalleled sharpness combined with her unmatched internal energy should have been able to severely injure the Martial Demon again and kill it. Yet, ever since Li Huamei faced the Martial Demon, Kato Taka, whether out of self-respect or concern for his injuries, had retreated to the side, showing no intention of joining forces or handing the Dragon Slayer Blade to Li Huamei. And Li Huamei, surprisingly, didn't even ask for it.

"Hmm, I think even Yu Hong beside me could see that something was off between these two senior and junior siblings...

" "Hahaha, Golden Admiral, we'll meet again!"

Perhaps realizing he couldn't defeat his enemy, and his enemy couldn't kill him, and neither side had time to waste in a prolonged fight, after being repelled by Li Huamei once more, his enormous bat wings suddenly unfurled, flapping against the wind and soaring into the air, laughing wildly as he flew away.

"...A brainless idiot with muscles all in his head. Putting aside his arrogance, he's quite the mascot who always appears amidst laughter."

Abandoning the pointless pursuit, Li Huamei sheathed her sword, smiled slightly at us, and first bowed to Kato Taka in greeting. Judging from the distant way these two senior and junior siblings acted, it seemed my guess was correct.

Li Huamei briefly explained how she had come here. She was originally preparing her army on Penglai Island when, after the fleets of Honolulu Island and the Palace of Light were attacked one after another, she learned that the Black Dragon Society was making frequent moves. So she personally went out to sea, leading a small number of elites to search for our traces on the vast ocean. She also relied on her personal intuition to search for the Black Dragon Society's experimental field. When she arrived in the waters near Fengling Island, she happened to sense the strong demonic aura on the island. She immediately shook off her soldiers and rushed across the sea alone to Fengling Island, where she promptly drove away the Wujian demon.

"Such a drastic change in energy, has the seal on the ghost ship been broken prematurely?"

With Li Huamei's knowledge, the reason for the celestial anomaly naturally couldn't escape her discerning eyes. I quickly recounted the whole matter, and her eyes flashed with a fierce light. She looked up at the sky, at the dark clouds that obscured the stars and moon, and said, "It's already Chen Shi (7-9 AM), the sky should have been bright long ago, yet there's still no sunlight. It's clear the legends are true. If the ghost ship falls into the hands of the Black Dragon Society, the East Sea will be plunged into eternal darkness. My little lover, I have to apologize to you this time..."

The Golden Admiral of the East Sea was a figure of immense status. Since Li Huamei's appearance, Yu Hong, dressed provocatively, seemed ashamed and remained silent. Now, seeing Li Huamei's intimate expression with me, and even calling me her little lover, she was taken aback, staring incredulously at her female idol.

I didn't notice the change in Yu Hong's expression; my mind was only on the Evil Lotus. Li Huamei's words implied a plan to kill Xie Lian and sever the key to the ghost ship before it was fully unsealed. For the sake of the greater good, this was the obvious course of action, but a strange anger welled up within me.

Why should I bear the loss for the greater good? What benefit would I gain from it? If the price of the greater good is sacrificing my woman… then what's the point of this greater good?

Amidst my rage, I was also puzzled. Xie Lian shouldn't be that important to me, so why had I not only risked my life for her, but was now so furious about her sacrifice?

I couldn't answer, because often, it's not about whether something should or shouldn't be done, but about one's true feelings. At that moment, a fierce fire of anger burned within me, especially when Li Huamei so readily declared her intention to sacrifice Xie Lian to save the East Sea; I felt an inexplicable rage.

But this anger didn't erupt, because just as Li Huamei was about to continue, Kato Taka sheathed his dragon-slaying blade, which resembled both a knife and a sword, and asked Li Huamei how many people she had brought with her, and whether she had brought a large army.

To attack the enemy's key locations, of course, it would be meaningful to mobilize a

large army and attack with overwhelming force. However, Li Huamei had already stated that she had only mobilized a small number of elite troops, so the number couldn't be too large, and... "If the seal on the ghost ship is broken, with that legendary terrifying power, bringing more soldiers who have no ability to defend themselves would only be sending them to their deaths, which is meaningless."

Especially at sea, if the ghost ship stirs up tsunamis and giant waves, then even if several large fleets are mobilized, the consequence will be sinking to the bottom of the sea. Against such an overly powerful supernatural force, a large number of people is not an advantage, but rather a burden, and will cause unnecessary casualties. Li Huamei had considered this point, which was why she hadn't brought a large force. However, after she shook her head in denial, she seemed to realize something, her expression changed, and she disappeared in an instant.

I had no idea what was happening; I just followed Kato Taka and Yu Hong as they rushed forward. With Kato Taka's help, we passed through two thick fogs of corpse poison and slew several unknown giant corpse beasts. Finally, we arrived at a cliff. Li Huamei's figure stood on the edge of the cliff, gazing at the sea from there.

"This...this is..."

Even in the darkness, it was clearly visible: a hundred miles to the east, countless lights and flags fluttered on the sea, gradually becoming clearer; a large fleet of over a hundred ships, large and small, was speeding towards Fengling Island, cutting through the waves. Judging from the flags and ships, they were all the ships and soldiers of the resistance army.

"They... how could they..."

From the astonishing momentum of the ships cutting through the waves and the deafening battle cries, one could imagine that the resistance fighters on board were ready, swords drawn, to go ashore and fight, to break through the Black Dragon Society's evil abyss. Under normal circumstances, this magnificent military force occupying half the sea would indeed be worthy of applause and cheers, but now the situation was unclear, the celestial phenomena were abnormal, and if the ghost ship really was unsealed and reappeared, they would certainly become the first wave of victims when the ghost ship reappeared on earth.

“I gave strict orders to the troops on Penglai and Honolulu islands to prepare for battle or retreat as instructed by me. No rash actions were permitted. There’s no reason they would have followed us here.”

Li Huamei frowned slightly, pondering this perplexing question. But we didn’t need to guess, because soon after, although our vision was blurry, we vaguely saw a single, indistinct figure beneath the bright red banner fluttering on the flagship of the large fleet. For a moment, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, and I heard Yu Hong’s exclamation.

“Two…two Marshal Li?”

Yu Hong’s whisper confirmed my suspicions, but compared to us outsiders, Li Huamei and Kato Taka immediately realized what was happening.

"Damn it! He tricked us!"

"That Kurosawa Kazuo!"

Similar words were uttered in unison. Even before the sound echoed, Li Huamei had transformed into a dragon-like shadow, shooting like a meteor from the cliff onto the sea. Stepping on the surging, interconnected waters, she hurtled towards the rebel ships at high speed.

Although the outcome of truly mastering the Heavenly Qi Technique was unknown, the Golden Dragon power, fully developed by the Nine Deaths Evil Art, was clearly earth-shattering. Li Huamei's speed was astounding. She appeared to be running on water, yet her feet moved with incredible speed, never actually touching the surface. The shockwaves from her charge swept outwards, creating three-foot-high white waves that churned and overturned the sea, a truly terrifying sight.

During the journey, Li Huamei let out a long, high-pitched howl that echoed across the vast sea for miles. Even those of us standing on the hilltop felt unsteady on our feet. This piercing howl, carrying far and wide, caused the figure standing under the banner of the resistance flagship to vanish in a flash, throwing the resistance into chaos.

"That fake Li Huamei, is she from the Black Dragon Society?"

It was a stupid question, but having no other options, I asked anyway. Kato Taka gave me an unexpected answer.

"There is only one person in the world who can imitate Huamei so perfectly, deceiving her confidants and everyone in the resistance. Like a dream, with a thousand voices and a thousand appearances, it is the Drunken Immortal Zhai Su, one of the two human incarnations of the Black Dragon Society."

"Is...is it that Drunken Immortal Zhai Su?"

I exclaimed in surprise. The two humanoid avatars, directly under the Black Dragon King and dedicated to carrying out secret missions, are both among the Seven Beauties of the Ages, renowned beauties. However, compared to the elusive and ruthless Huang Quan Qingju, the Drunken Immortal Zhai Su is far more mysterious.

Gui Mei Xi, at least, has a name, and rumors circulate that she assassinated some formidable figures for the Black Dragon Society, earning her a formidable reputation. Ah Xue and I have even witnessed her form and figure. But the Drunken Immortal Yue Su—people only know that she has repeatedly rendered great service to the Black Dragon Society, even surpassing Gui Mei Xi in importance—but they know nothing of her achievements, her age, or her appearance.

When people discuss the beauty of the Seven Beauties, they always mention these two mysterious, unseen flowers. I never imagined I would have the opportunity to see the Drunken Immortal Yue Su today, and in such a bizarre way at that.

"Zui Xian Yue Su is Kurosawa Kazuo's top spy, specially trained by him. Her greatest skill is disguise; no one has ever seen her true face. No matter who she disguises herself as, her eyes, temperament, and posture are flawless. Hua Mei designed many identification tokens to guard against her, but it seems she still couldn't stop her today."

Kato Taka's sigh hit the nail on the head, because the Black Dragon Society not only had Zui Xian Yue Su impersonate Li Hua Mei to mobilize troops while she was away, but also chose the best battlefield.

The rebel fleet, seeing their commander mysteriously disappear, and hearing the familiar roar coming from the sea, with Li Hua Mei's figure rushing towards them at high speed, most of the captains and staff realized something was wrong and immediately became chaotic. But soon, the reason for their shock changed. Behind Li Hua Mei, who was rushing back to the fleet, the waves surged up from the shore of Fengling Island, forming a ten-foot-high wall of giant waves that surged towards the rebel fleet.

"It's a tsunami!"

Yu Hong exclaimed. She knew that no matter how powerful the fleet or how sturdy the ships, they would be completely powerless against such a natural disaster. But this was not a natural disaster. The cries of agony mixed in with the raging tsunami, and the vaguely visible skeletal figures, all proved that this was the raging tide stirred up by the impending breaking of the ghost ship's seal and the restlessness of millions of undead.

If they were hit head-on by this tsunami, even though the rebel fleet seemed powerful, they would probably suffer heavy casualties. Fortunately, the rebels seemed to have been prepared for this situation. Li Huamei, who was originally heading towards the fleet, suddenly turned around and rushed back towards the towering white waves. She unleashed her power and struck the sea with both palms, instantly creating a terrifying wave.

The waves stirred up by Li Huamei, though not as massive as the ten-foot waves churned by the vengeful spirits, were still quite impressive. Especially when she swung her arms, like a dragon breaking through the sea, leading the wall of waves back, although the speed wasn't as fast as before, with deliberate manipulation, the waves transformed into two high white lines, splitting from her left and right, cutting through the sea surface and crashing against the tsunami wall.

So-called waves are simply the fluctuations of energy reflected in seawater; a tsunami is simply the strongest and most violent type of wave. Li Huamei's current method of churning up waves, attempting to counter the tsunami's power with waves, was feasible, but only someone with her strength could accomplish it.

"Boom!"

The instant the two waves collided head-on, the massive impact of the seawater released a tremendous amount of energy, causing the surrounding seabed and land to shake. The scattered seawater became a misty rain, carrying along some of the vengeful spirits attached to the tsunami wall into the sky.

The tsunami, though significantly reduced in size thanks to Li Huamei's intervention, still hurtled towards the rebel fleet with ferocious force. Meanwhile, the people on the ships, which were rapidly turning back, began to react. Mages and warriors alike, those with considerable skill, gathered at the stern to launch long-range attacks on the tsunami.

Most attacks consisted of fireballs or ice spells, attempting to evaporate and freeze the seawater, thus mitigating the tsunami's impact. These seemingly weak attacks, like dragonflies shaking stone pillars, were quite effective, especially when magical attacks eliminated the undead, reducing the evil force that created the tsunami, thus significantly diminishing its threat.

Unfortunately, although some mages launched fireballs, they were not true fire magic users and could not unleash the full potential of fire magic. The flames they emitted did not reach true high temperatures; otherwise, using extreme fire to control seawater would have been far more effective. Fire magic is the most unique among the six major magic systems. It's not something one can simply learn at will; a large part depends on bloodline inheritance. Therefore, the number of fire magic users is far fewer than those of the other five major systems.

Looking at the present day, the most renowned fire magic user is the Hermit of the Heart Lamp. It's a pity he didn't come with the fleet; otherwise, with his martial arts skills and abilities, he could have significantly reduced the damage from the tsunami.

"Whoosh...whoosh...boom boom boom!"

Amidst a deafening roar, the tsunami, now significantly reduced in size, slammed down on the fleet like the palm of a giant. The mages on the ships continued their efforts, casting fireballs and ice spells to create wisps of smoke and ice fragments on the tsunami wall. But just as the giant wave curved downwards, about to engulf the ships, Li Huamei, who had emerged from the tsunami earlier, miraculously appeared at the very top of the wave. Standing atop the wave, her transparent longsword brimming with power, she slashed downwards with all her might.

"Heavenly Severing Demonic Flow, Break!"

A thunderous sword strike, terrifying and awe-inspiring, descended with tremendous force. The transparent sword light swept vertically, sending waves flying, as if severing the dragon's head in an instant. The headless dragon body collapsed, powerless, and then, under the combined onslaught of the rebels' concentrated magical attacks, the tsunami wall, already reduced to three feet in height, was instantly shattered, transforming into surging waves that pushed towards the fleet.

The sounds of ships colliding were incessant. Some lighter, flat-bottomed boats capsized, and many large and medium-sized warships collided with neighboring vessels, causing minor commotion and damage within the resistance ranks. However, compared to the heavy casualties that should have occurred under the onslaught of a massive tsunami, this was negligible.

The tsunami was broken down into shallow waves, and the vengeful spirits that had stirred it up, influenced by the magical impact, scattered into the sky, transforming into hundreds of wisps of bluish-purple smoke that rose gently into the night. To the resistance soldiers, this smoke was undoubtedly the fireworks of victory, and cheers instantly resounded across the sea.

Li Huamei's unparalleled martial arts skills were the main reason for creating such a miracle. Her ability to overturn the waves, charge head-on into the tsunami, and finally unleash a wave-breaking sword strike at the crest of the tsunami, made her appear as a majestic goddess of victory to the soldiers, an image that fully fueled their indomitable spirit.

But just as the people cheered and were filled with excitement, Li Huamei, standing on the flagship, suddenly drew her sword and cleaved the sky. The sharp sword energy, though it didn't cleave through the clouds to reveal the sun, released a piercing roar that instantly silenced all the jubilant shouts of the resistance.

Perhaps not everyone understood the purpose of Li Huamei's sword strike, but as the sound of her sword gradually faded, a muffled, thunderous vibration began to rise, originating from the sky; an eerie, oppressive atmosphere made everyone uneasy.

"Ah! That dark shadow is..."

The sky was shrouded in dark clouds, invisible to ordinary people, but as a sorcerer, I vaguely saw a strangely shaped, enormous dark shadow, resembling a scorpion, a spider, or some kind of demonic dragon, instantly spreading across the sky and merging into the dense clouds; and just after this eerie shadow swept across the sky, the vast sky underwent a dramatic change.

First came countless shrill screams, like the wails of ghosts and demons, emanating from the depths of hell, piercing straight into people's ears. Then, the surrounding temperature plummeted, and a biting wind swept up, causing uncontrollable shivers and chattering teeth.

Dozens, even hundreds, of dark figures swirled and descended from the clouds. These ethereal, semi-transparent forms, outwardly resembling rotten corpses draped in tattered robes, exuded an astonishing spiritual pressure that sent chills down the spines of those who could sense them.

"That's... a lich!"

Undead creatures are the demonic forms that emerge after the death of living beings. For example, the bones of a dragon absorbing the essence of the sun and moon to become a dragon spirit are among the most powerful undead, avoided by ordinary sorcerers and martial artists. However, dragon spirits are not the only highly dangerous and troublesome undead creatures.

A highly skilled black magic user, dying a violent death, will have their soul cursed and trapped within their bones, decaying together. The body, radiating boundless resentment and powerful demonic energy, becomes the perfect dwelling place for the undead. When the corpse is possessed by hundreds of spirits, a new life form existing between life and death is created, possessing an evil consciousness and a deep hatred for the living. However, unlike the mindless dragon spirits, these liches retain their knowledge from their previous life, can use magic, and cast curses, making them extremely dangerous evil beings.

Forming a lich is difficult, and maintaining its existence is even more demanding. Not only must it be protected from sunlight, but it must also continuously absorb the resentment and yin energy of the dead. Liches typically reside in ancient, sunless graveyards, but even a massive mass grave of thousands can only support the existence of one lich at most. Due to their limited range of activity, their harm is not profound, and it is rare to see multiple liches in action.

But this common knowledge has been shattered today. The ghost ship had stirred up countless vengeful spirits in the sea. Supplying even thousands, let alone hundreds of liches, wouldn't be a problem. The darkness that completely obscured the sun and moon emboldened the liches, and as the evil power of the vengeful spirits broke free of their seals, they surged forth in droves.

"What just caused the tsunami were merely the planktonic spirits already present in this area. While their power was great, their threat was limited. The truly terrifying aspect of the ghost ship is that it stirs up the immortal spirits sealed at the bottom of the sea, accumulating millennia of resentment. Once they are awakened, the consequences will be far more than just a tsunami."

Kato Taka's prophecy unfortunately came true!

After descending from the sky, the hundreds of liches didn't attack the people. Instead, they simultaneously formed hand seals and emitted a high-frequency chant. As their evil power resonated with each other, demonic energy surged into the sky, and a dazzling light appeared in the dark heavens—not a clear, warm daytime sun, but a sinister, blood-red moon.

A naturally formed red moon!

This was a highly strategic move. With the appearance of the evil blood moon, the righteous path weakened while the demonic path strengthened, which was more advantageous to dark wizards and undead creatures. Not only could it restrain mages of other schools, but it also

had the effect of seizing the initiative. The morale that Li Huamei had previously boosted was instantly suppressed and vanished. The intense pressure of death was like an invisible hand pressing tightly on everyone's chest. Even from a distance, I could feel the fear of the resistance soldiers. And what followed was even worse. Hundreds of liches joined forces to cast a spell, stirring up a gale that created more than a dozen rapidly spinning tornadoes on the sea, like venomous dragons with bared fangs, ready to devour the resistance fleet.

Natural gales alone would have been manageable, but the gale was not only an attack, but also the horn for another wave of attacks. As the gale surged in, the roars and howls of different creatures echoed, and from every part of the sea, shadows of all sizes materialized, reverting to their forms before they were sealed. The sea seemed to be staging a rare exhibition, with many dangerous and ferocious beasts, usually only seen in books and illustrated guides, appearing all at once.

Dragon spirits, dead soul butterflies, three-headed hellhounds, and ghouls—these evil beasts belonging to the dark life forms broke their five-hundred-year slumber, resurrecting from the dark seabed. Instinctively chasing the flesh and blood of the living, ignoring the raging waves on the surface, they charged towards the rebel fleet, immediately erupting into a fierce battle.

Countless deadly beasts roared and charged amidst the blood moon, raging winds, and raging waves, creating an oppressive atmosphere that was genuinely terrifying. But what truly caused despair was not these beasts or liches.

"Tiger... Tiger... Tiger..."

The strange cries carried on the tide grew louder and louder, like a vast army of thousands chanting slogans in unison. The orderly and disciplined shouts carried a hint of malevolence. As the cries reached their peak, ghostly figures suddenly appeared along the coastline of Fengling Island, countless purple and blue ghostly flames and shadows densely covering the entire shore.

"Tiger... Tiger... Tiger..."

Bathed in the blood-red moonlight, the transparent vengeful spirits quickly materialized, transforming into rotting corpses or skeletal demons devoid of flesh. Though their forms differed, they all shared one thing in common: they all held weapons.

The rotting corpses wielded spears in one hand and heavy shields with sharp spikes in the other; the skeletal demons, their bones glowing eerily, held swords in each hand. These two types of undead soldiers, exuding murderous intent, used their painless and impervious bodies as their best armor. As this massive army marched forward in unison, some silently submerged into the water, while others were seized by the shoulders of Death Butterflies and Human-Faced Ravens and launched into two waves, attacking the rebel fleet.

These were the soldiers; the demon generals commanding these undead soldiers, each clad in armor, were difficult to discern from the distance, but appeared to be other kinds of evil creatures. The skeletal horses they rode seemed to walk on water without sinking, instantly directing their troops into a bloody storm as they charged towards the enemy.

On the vast sea, this undead army likely numbered no less than one hundred thousand!

The roars of monsters, the chaos of liches, and the encirclement of undead soldiers made the rebel fleet appear like a small boat adrift in a raging sea, isolated and helpless, covered by countless black dots.

The banner of justice had never faced such despair!
