The Age of Alibuda, Volume 7, Chapter 8: The Warriors of the Giants

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-06-08
The Blood Nightmare Archmage, who died unjustly at my hands, hailed from Ishtar, the most infamous land of black magic on Earth. Due to the royal family's deliberate promotion and provision of living materials to protect the rights of black magic practitioners, many wizards trained there, performing bloody sacrifices and evil rituals.

Black magic, in essence, relied on dealing with various demons and undead for sustenance. Ishtar's necromancy research was unparalleled; the "Banner of Ten Thousand Souls," a masterpiece created by the Blood Nightmare Archmage with his life's work, was a prime example.

However, in Ishtar's history, such outstanding wizards were not unique. Two hundred years ago, a group of wizards, using the widely circulated magical stone golems as a foundation and combining them with the Myriad Spirit Blood Bead, recreated according to ancient secret texts, developed a powerful magical weapon that Ishtar was proud of, named the "Giant God Weapon."

The energy center of the Giant God Weapon was a Myriad Spirit Blood Bead. Even by today's standards, this spirit stone, forged from the lives of 12,500 people, remains an extremely bloody and evil object. Ten thousand adults were used as the foundation for the Myriad Spirit Blood Pearl, while the actual materials used in its creation were the blood of five hundred young boys and girls and two thousand virgins. Using this blood as a conduit, ten thousand unjustly deceased and vengeful spirits were imprisoned within.

All development, blood sacrifices, experiments, and assembly were completed within a cone-shaped triangular stone tower. Wizards named this magical weapon "Obelisk the Titan," which, according to ancient sorcery, means "God of the Obelisk."

In the history of the various kingdoms of the land, many fantastical bio-engineered beasts and weapons have existed: the Obelisk the Titan, the Red Noah's Ship of Solancia, the Bahamut Dragon of Penglai Island in the East Sea… These things are called fantastical because of their terrifying power, far exceeding the capabilities of the land at the time, but also because their existence was fleeting, becoming mere tales passed down among the land's sorcerers.

Unfortunately, many times they not only disappeared themselves, but also took a large number of dead as their burial goods; the Colossus was such an example. For reasons unknown, Ishtar, which was intended to use the Colossus as a weapon of war, was suddenly struck by a massive explosion one night, destroying most of the city and hundreds of thousands of its inhabitants, including King Ishtar, 60% of the royal family, and a group of Ishtar's most skilled wizards at the time.

The Colossus vanished in the explosion, causing widespread chaos within the country. Several generals engaged in a brutal and bloody civil war for the throne. When the situation was restored, Ishtar was severely weakened, and information about the Colossus was sealed away, making it one of the many legendary myths.

"I believe the Heart Lamp Hermit told you the story of the Colossus. If the destruction of half the capital was due to a failed experiment and a massive explosion, that wouldn't be so bad. But... I've heard people say that the destruction of Ishtar was caused by the Colossus going out of control and wreaking havoc throughout the city. The explosion was merely the effect of the wizards collectively destroying the Blood Orb of Ten Thousand Spirits."

I said urgently, "To destroy most of the capital in one night, if we were to translate that into the level of a martial artist, that would be the destructive power of the five strongest warriors... no, maybe even more powerful. Do you think you have a chance of winning against something like that?"

Yu Hong looked at me suspiciously, her meaning obvious. The information on the Colossus is all top secret in Ishtar; outsiders have no way of knowing it. What I said was probably just made up.

The problem is, these things were told to me by my freak father. As a first-level military leader of Alibuda and one of the five strongest warriors in the world, this information definitely carries weight.

Fortunately, I don't need to elaborate; Natasha has already proven the power of the Colossus. White Orc Bear and Chiris, who were using their fifth-level power to unleash the Beast King's Technique together, were immediately at a disadvantage against the giant stone statue's attack.

Compared to their agile movements, the Colossus appeared much slower and less nimble. However, whenever White Orc Bear and Chiris jumped onto the statue, attempting to leap and attack Natasha on its forehead, the Colossus would clench its fist and unleash a burst of explosive force, causing the two orcs to howl and be sent flying, their bodies unsteady in mid-air, their openings exposed. The

Colossus's heavy fist slammed out with thunderous force. With its stone arm as thick as several trees bound together, its enormous fist, and the supreme magic power unleashed by the Myriad Spirit Blood Pearl, this was truly a deserving, devastating punch.

Barely managing to block with just one arm, the White Bear took the blow and was sent flying. Chiris fared even worse; after a deafening explosion, a dark crater appeared in the ground, and he was blasted into the abyss, disappearing without a trace.

The two leaders were utterly defeated, almost without any resistance. Amidst Natasha's smug, evil laughter, the orcs' morale crumbled, and they began to retreat and flee. But it was too late; they were crushed and killed by the giant warriors that caught up from behind, their blood staining the earth in an instant.

"No, this giant warrior must be incomplete..."

As I said this, Yu Hong and Violet both looked at me with strange eyes. They seemed unable to understand why I always seemed to contradict the situation before me. When the giant statue first appeared, and the high-spirited orcs prepared to join forces to break it, only I was almost trembling; but when the giant warrior unleashed its terrifying destructive power, I was able to remain calm.

Helplessly, I don't know why I'm like this, but with my lack of martial arts skills and weak magic, to survive a series of life-or-death situations, I must see further than others by a quarter of an hour.

The Colossus is very strong, able to so easily defeat two level 5 experts; it truly deserves its title as the king of stone weapons.

But if that's all it is, it doesn't live up to its reputation. It merely relies on its immense magical power and kinetic energy to overwhelmingly surpass the beastmen. It's more than enough to deal with the various beastmen, but if the serpent race wants to use something like this to contend with the strongest level 8 power, they must be out of their minds.

“Natasha isn’t stupid. She wouldn’t use something so slow as a tool for rebellion. It can’t generate electricity or breathe fire, it’s not even as good as a violet, how could it possibly destroy half the capital? Using something like this to fight the Beastmaster is certain death.”

I said, “Given Natasha’s caution, the Titan is probably genuine. But the orcs’ surprise attack was successful this time, and she hastily combined it with the Titan, the original magic program wasn’t completed. This thing must have a weakness somewhere.”

“Where is the weakness?” Infected by my calm analysis, Yu Hong’s question seemed urgent.

“Let’s run!”

“What?”

“Even if we know there’s a weakness, we don’t have time to find it. Even if we find it, sixth-level power isn’t invincible. Do you want to risk it?”

Reminded by my words, Yu Hong remembered her mission and tried to flap her wings to fly down the mountain, but it was too late. Natasha noticed our presence and the phoenix flames when Yu Hong flapped her wings, so she abandoned the pursuit of the orcs and ran towards us.

If you insist on flying down the mountain, you must be prepared to withstand a direct hit from the colossus. Yu Hong's expression hardened, and she flapped her wing in the opposite direction, her body nimbly circling back. Flames suddenly erupted from her body as she launched a direct attack on the colossus with sixth-level power .

"You stinking snake bitch, you're not qualified to defy the heavens and rule the Southern Barbarians!"

A figure shot through the wind, and the revitalized Bai Lan Xiong no longer held back

. He too unleashed his sixth-level power, coordinating with Yu Hong's angle to attack the colossus. The combined power of the two was far stronger than the previous attack by Bai Lan Xiong and Qi Lisi. The energy surged, flames soared, and the colossus's slow movements were exposed. Under the two's agile attacks, all its counterattacks missed, and for a time it could only take the beating.

I wanted to cheer like the orcs on the field, but after realizing that the colossus was completely unharmed despite the continuous bombardment of two sixth-level powers, my assessment of the battle became conservative.

Before I could think any further, a dense whooshing sound came from the side, and a barrage of arrows tore through the air, catching the unsuspecting orcs off guard and wounding them one by one. Because Natasha held off the enemy, the wounded Yalanja, together with his people, led the hired slave soldiers in a coordinated attack. The crossbow bolts fired with deadly arrows, a successful surprise attack that wounded the orcs once more.

I was standing far away, out of the crossbow's range, and a few stray arrows were burned away by Violet's timely flames, saving me from certain death.

After the crossbow bolts came snakes and poisonous insects. Yalanja seemed to have unleashed some kind of beast demon that could control swarms of poisonous insects; a large group of scorpions, centipedes, and venomous snakes surged in like a tidal wave, orderly and quickly surrounding the orcs from the outside.

If I stayed here any longer, even I wouldn't be able to escape. Relying on Violet's fire and electricity, we fought our way through the edge of the poisonous insect horde, ignoring the fierce battle behind us, and ran desperately towards the Red Building.

I sincerely pray for Bai Lanxiong and Yu Hong. If they are defeated, and if we lose even our last bargaining chip, we will have no choice but to choose between suicide and making a wish to the female demon.

If it were just about dealing with Natasha, two level six experts working together could kill her in a few rounds. However, the Titans are sturdy and difficult to damage, and with reinforcements and poisonous insect formations below, their situation is truly not optimistic. Moreover, I have another concern... the possibility that Natasha has mastered the operating techniques in actual combat and begun to unleash the true power of the Titans.

Just as Violet and I were about to rush into the Red Chamber, a sonic boom suddenly erupted behind us. First, we couldn't hear anything, then a deafening roar assaulted our ears and brain. A violent, scorching shockwave crashed down on us from behind, blasting Violet and me off our feet. We were thrown into the air, floated for a moment, and then crashed to the ground, tumbling and tumbling into the Red Chamber.

The worst-case scenario had likely already occurred. I scrambled downstairs, trying to get ahead of Violet, hoping to rescue Xue as quickly as possible and escape this place.

Although I knew this was inappropriate, I was genuinely a little envious of Xue.

We were fighting tooth and nail outside, battling giants and poisonous insects, almost losing our lives. She, on the other hand, just had to stay here unconscious—so convenient! Next time, let's switch places; she can fight the giants, and I can soak in the blood pool hot springs!

Last time, due to the rush, I couldn't cut off those cursed chains, but this time was different. Before helping Yu Hong perform the Lustful God Curse, I smeared the blood of a celestial being on the blade of the Hundred Demons Sword to increase the pure yang energy of the divine weapon. Then, I had Violet breathe fire on the cursed chains. When the chains began to change color, I swung the sword and slashed.

With a "clang," the chains snapped. I then used the same method to cut off the other side of the chains, and Ah Xue's naked body fell to the ground.

I embraced Ah Xue, and the two of us were covered in blood in the pool. As a result of being covered in blood, I couldn't see Ah Xue's face clearly, but the furry feeling on my hands suggested that beneath the blood was the beautiful, fragrant body of a half-beast girl. However, her unusually thin waist and her round, plump, smooth breasts made me almost hold my breath and begin to fantasize.

This wasn't the time for idle thoughts. Violet picked up a piece of cloth from the side, which had been covering the large iron cage nearby. Now, as it was pulled aside, the twisted and deformed corpse of a winged child was revealed inside. The gruesome sight made Violet let out a mournful cry, and even I felt nauseous and turned my head away.

"Ah Xue, Ah Xue, wake up." I gently patted her pale face and called to her.

"Master... I..."

"Don't waste your breath, Ah Xue. Don't look to the side. Just put this cloth on and come with me."

If she saw the large iron cage, she might lose control of her emotions, which would be quite bad. So it was necessary to leave as quickly as possible while she was still not fully conscious.

With blurry eyes, Ah Xue wrapped the cloth around herself, barely covering her body. But covering one side revealed another, and while the cloth concealed her skin, it accentuated her fiery, alluring curves. If I hadn't repeatedly reminded myself of the danger we were in, I would have loved to tear the cloth away and see just how sexy and alluring that fiery body was.

"Ugh..."

Violet growled softly, and I snapped out of my daze. I grabbed Ah Xue and tried to rush out the stairs, but we were shocked to see a dark figure blocking our path. We hadn't even noticed this person's presence!

This person's attire was very strange, somewhat like the evil wizard of Ishtar. He wore an extremely large black cloak, his hands tucked into the black sleeves, and his head was tightly wrapped in black bandages from his hair to his neck, not revealing a single inch of skin except for his left eye.

Normally, human eyes are oval-shaped, but this person's eyes were complete circles, without pupils, just green eyeballs, shimmering with an eerie emerald light. A stench of rotting corpse emanated from him, mingling with the stench of the blood pool behind him. I almost vomited on the spot.

If I weren't in the Southern Barbarian lands, I would have mistaken him for a lich, an evil creature born from the lingering resentment of a black sorcerer who died practicing witchcraft, his corpse gathering a sinister aura. But now, I couldn't even determine if this thing was human.

"Hey! You…"

After days of torture and transformation, Ah Xue was still very weak. I rushed ahead of her, brandishing the Hundred Demon Pill, hoping it would have some deterrent effect. But to my surprise, the monster's green eyes blazed with emerald light the moment it saw the pill. With a sudden flick of its left sleeve, a strong, stenchy wind swept over me. My head spun, I felt nauseous, and I stumbled backward. Even so, my dazed mind continued to work.

(Strange… This isn’t black magic, it’s a kind of poison palm technique. Liches don’t use martial arts, so who is he? Why is he deliberately disguised like this?)

With an angry roar, Violet opened her mouth and spat out blazing flames, cutting off the poisonous wind and saving Ah Xue and me from disaster. Otherwise, if we had been any slower, we would have both been poisoned and collapsed.

The raging flames sprayed towards the strange man, burning away the poisonous gas he was exhaling. Violet gradually advanced, seemingly intending to seize an opportunity for a close-range attack.

The strange man took a step back, as if he did something, and then with a wave of his sleeve, the blazing fire that Violet had spewed out instantly vanished without a trace. A fierce gust of wind shot out, sending Violet flying through the air and crashing heavily into the wall. Stone chips and clods of earth rained down. Our strongest fighter was already unconscious on the ground, motionless.

Having displayed this skill, it's clear this person is a martial arts master. The depth of his skill is unclear, but he's likely on par with Bai Lanxiong and Yu Hong. If he were willing to fight the giant soldier, he'd be a tremendous help. Unfortunately, things seem to be going in the opposite direction.

"Violet!"

Ah Xue exclaimed, about to run to check on the unconscious leopard, but I grabbed her, preventing her from taking the risk. This action attracted the strange man's attention; his green eyes flashed again as he looked this way. My heart pounded with fear, and Ah Xue and I could only retreat step by step.

"Master... Master... what is that thing?"

"Who knows? If you're so curious, why don't you ask him?"

His black cloak billowed, and the green-eyed strange man waved his sleeves again. Ah Xue and I retreated hastily, only to hear a deafening roar as the already dilapidated stone wall above shattered and scattered.

The source of the explosion was directly above. A beautiful, fiery figure rushed in, caught in countless small pebbles and dust. The flames burned into a dazzling phoenix tail, and she struck the blue-eyed monster with a palm.

"Great..."

My joy was fleeting, for the strange man suddenly stepped back, revealing his left hand wrapped in black cursed cloth. He waved it wildly in the air a few times, and the flames Yu Hong had shot out vanished instantly. Then, the two struck each other with a heavy blow. With a deafening roar, the surging energy swept in all directions, blasting the already dilapidated underground chamber to smithereens. Yu Hong coughed up a mouthful of blood and fell backward like a kite with a broken string.

Was the outcome so clear? My heart sank, but I immediately understood that Yu Hong's injury was not due to a lack of combat skills. When I nearly tumbled and caught her, I discovered dozens of small pebbles embedded in her delicate, bare back, still bleeding. Clearly, she had been injured before her defeat in the battle against the giant warriors outside.

And this time, I could see even more clearly that the strange man's counterattack against Yu Hong's attack was the same technique he had used to dissolve the violet flames and then counterattack. Thanks to the keen eye cultivated through my family's martial arts tradition, I recognized the superior martial arts technique the strange man was using.

(...The Radiant Calamity Hand of the Cihang Jingdian!)

In an instant, many things flashed through my mind.

The technology for creating the Colossus was an ultimate masterpiece of black magic, and also Ishtar's top secret. Intelligence agencies from various countries had been unable to investigate it for years. Why was it the Serpent Clan, living in the remote southern wilderness and unable to even practice black magic, who recreated the Colossus?

Legend has it that the Colossus's energy source was the Myriad Spirit Blood Pearl, forged from the sacrifice of 12,500 lives. But the Serpent Clan, with only a thousand members, is probably overestimating it. Where did they find more than 10,000 lives to forge the Blood Pearl? Even if they used inter-clan wars to carry out such an extravagant act, it would have been discovered long ago.

Where did those slave soldiers outside come from? Logically, no slave traders should have entered the orcs' blockade area. Could some force be sending aid to the Serpent Clan, while simultaneously preparing to smuggle away some of their spoils from Skeva's City?

Behind the Serpent Clan, there must be a powerful organization supporting them, not only secretly teaching them the crafting techniques for the Colossus Weapon, but also helping them refine the Myriad Spirit Blood Pearls elsewhere, as capital to resist the Beast Lord and dominate the Southern Barbarians.

All these clues, coupled with the Light Transformation Hand wielded by this strange man, suddenly reminded me of the messenger Natasha and Yalanja discussed. A chill ran down my spine, and I cried out, "The Palace of Light! This strange fellow is a messenger sent by the Palace of Light to collude with the Serpent Clan!"

I should have guessed the man's origin correctly, but it was meaningless, because in the chaos of dust and flying stones, he had already vanished. Perhaps, although the Temple of Light had demanded that the Serpent Clan capture the Neon Sisters alive, the messenger didn't want Yu Hong to discover the Temple of Light's involvement before they were captured, lest she escape and leak the information. That's why he temporarily withdrew.

"Lend me your sword."

Yu Hong, unusually brave in my arms, didn't say much. She snatched the Hyakkimaru from my hand, and after confirming that the blue-eyed monster had left, she flapped her wings and quickly flew into the air, turning east and rejoining the battlefield against the Titans.

"The situation isn't good. Let's hurry up and see if we can help."

I said this to A Xue, who was squatting down trying to wake Violet, but my mind was on something else entirely. The Titans had clearly gained an absolute advantage, which was why Yu Hong wanted to come down and grab the sword, hoping to use the divine weapon to turn the tide of the battle. So, the most important thing to do after going up was not to try to help, but to immediately find a way to escape with A Xue.

If things went exactly as I planned, that would be perfect. Unfortunately, as soon as we stepped onto the stairs, we heard the crawling of snakes and insects above. My heart sank. A large force had already appeared above. Besides more than a dozen giant pythons guarding the entrance and exit of the stairs, there were also a large number of slave soldiers wielding crossbows, aiming their arrows at us.

"That was close, you two almost flew into the sky."

A girl's voice chuckled as Yalanjia appeared before us with her forces. Her gestures were clear enough that with a wave of her hand, the crossbowmen would unleash a volley of arrows, turning us into meat skewers.

"Besides orcs, I didn't expect there to be humans. Daring to abduct a concubine meant to be offered to the Venerable One, you really have boundless audacity. Is this flirtatious little fox girl worth your life?"

Injured by Yu Hong's Thunder Feather Star Arrow, Yalanjia's arm was hastily bandaged, still bleeding profusely. But since she had managed to bring people here, the situation above was probably ninety percent settled. Even if the orcs weren't completely wiped out, they certainly wouldn't be far off.

Even someone as cheerful and optimistic as Xue was terrified, hiding behind me and trembling. It was clear she was terrified of the snake tribe.

Unable to protect her, I gently patted her shoulder, trying to soothe her anxiety, but I couldn't think of any practical solution. I could only lead her and Violet up the stairs.

Once at the top, the scene before me sent chills down my spine. The sounds of battle could still be faintly heard in the distance. The three major beast tribes, with their superior numbers, hadn't been wiped out in a short time, but the main force attacking this side was either dead or wounded, lying on the ground, completely incapacitated.

Bai Lanxiong and Yu Hong were still fighting together, both bearing multiple wounds, Bai Lanxiong particularly badly injured. While Yu Hong was retrieving the sword, he, fighting the giant warrior alone, seemed to be trading his injuries and fighting spirit for time. Although the Beast King Fist's Brahma Rubber Technique was incredibly resilient, he had endured several heavy blows from the giant warrior, his white fur stained with hot blood, and judging from his movements, he likely had multiple fractures.

Yu Hong was also covered in wounds, but in her hands, Hyakkimaru unleashed bursts of brilliant fire, its power amplified, leaving marks on the giant warrior's body. It was no longer the previous predicament where no attack seemed to work; the giant warrior had to retreat slightly in the face of Yu Hong's attacks.

If they could accumulate attacks on those marks, or strike the giant warrior's strongest point, Natasha on his forehead might be able to break through its weakness and successfully defeat the enemy.

However, compared to Bai Lanxiong and Yu Hong, who were panting heavily and whose movements were becoming increasingly sluggish, the majestic Colossus remained like an unyielding demon god, displaying its world-destroying evil power before everyone.

If the main force was defeated and the leaders were all killed or wounded, then even if the remaining orc forces joined together, they would only become sacrifices at the Colossus's feet, serving no purpose. The

heavily wounded Chiris and a group of orcs who were no longer able to fight were surrounded by slave soldiers wielding crossbows. Ah Xue, Violet, and I were also driven into the center.

My mind raced, devising a countermeasure, but to change the current situation, I needed someone capable of fighting alongside Yu Hong and Bai Lanxiong, someone with sixth or even seventh level strength.

Seventh level…

I couldn't help but glance at Ah Xue beside me. Her face clearly showed fear, and she kept pulling at my arm. She was indeed a seventh level expert. The problem was, how could I draw out her power in such a hurry?

We don't need to fight the giants; just creating a disturbance to help us escape is enough. Because if things continue like this, Chiris and the White Bear might become rare commodities, and I'll definitely be slaughtered like dogs by the snake tribe.

If we let Ah Xue cast spells, with her hidden power, even without a covenant with the gods, she could probably create some chaos, right?

But those dark magic spells that don't require a covenant with evil gods require sacrifices, which is impossible now; and Ah Xue, cursed and sealed, can't use the holy magic that doesn't require sacrifices.

Wait… if we just use some light-emitting or illuminating spells, it shouldn't trigger the curse and make her collapse like she did when she opened her spiritual aperture last time, right?

This risk was worth taking, but I couldn't help but think that even though it was only the lowest level of holy magic, what if it stimulated the seal in Xue's mind and restored her memories? Then I...

Looking at Xue's innocent and charming face, filled with unease as she looked at me, yet her eyes were full of trust, I was truly torn.

With a "boom," Bai Lanxiong was struck by the giant weapon, the sound of bones shattering could be heard even from afar. He was then crushed into the ground by the giant weapon's follow-up attack, his life hanging in the balance, leaving Yu Hong alone to face the giant weapon.

(There was no time to think further; even drinking poison to quench thirst was not an option...)

I pulled Xue into my arms, and before the nearby orcs noticed us, I whispered in her ear, "Xue, listen carefully, your master is going to teach you a spell, you'll be right back in a minute..."

Author's note:

Many people find it strange that the Southern Barbarian arc is so long, compared to the previous one or two episodes, it feels like it's dragging on.

This is something I must explain, because when I was writing the first two volumes, I never thought it would be published. I just wrote whatever came to mind, not knowing if there would be a sequel. I did whatever I felt like, and if the work got bad, I could just say "I'm not writing anymore" online without worrying about quality.

But since I'm going to publish it and make money, I have to be responsible to the readers. The character levels, stories, and plots need to be more detailed to maintain a certain level of humor and quality. This requires more space to describe them.

My current record is ten books for one unit (uh, the terrifying Japanese series). In comparison, the Alibuda Nanban series is quite concise; it will at least end in the middle of the eighth volume.

Compared to the first two volumes, do you, dear readers, feel that the characters in the book are more likable? Or that you resonate with them more? If so, then all this space has not been wasted.

One thing I want to emphasize is that I have no intention of making the protagonist stronger. The main theme of Alibuda is a weak protagonist navigating perilous situations throughout the story. I didn't want to write a powerful, invincible character, so the protagonist didn't have the chance to become incredibly strong. Perhaps he will have a chance to become strong, in the ending…

However, one thing I regret is that the style of the first two episodes was difficult to maintain. I've always believed that you can't be a scoundrel forever. If John is just a useless person who relies solely on being a scoundrel to attract attention, he will be quickly eliminated. Therefore, when I officially started planning the entire work and embarked on this long-form journey, the writing style became more serious.

Of course, this is also because I couldn't think of any more evil deeds to commit. If you, dear readers, want to see the protagonist do evil, please write to me and tell me what kind of evil you'd like to see? What kind of women would he sleep with? What are your sexual fantasies about fantasy worlds? These are all valuable opinions and suggestions.
